i think there’s an inherent tragedy certainly in shadow’s childhood aboard the ark being one of misery, that he idolizes a past that wasn’t even that great, but i much prefer the idea that being aboard the ark was genuinely a pleasant experience, that gerald did love him and treated him kindly, that g.u.n.’s only influence was the raid. it’s a matter of opinion but i think it almost hurts worse. that there was genuine love behind your creation, until there wasn’t. until hate outweighed your well-being, until hate outweighed your autonomy, until hate outweighed you.
