considered spamming my friend, but instead ill put stuff here.

this is all my thoughts from as im listening to it, btw

on the other hand kids arent, like innocent to this type of thing, really. i used to babysit my friends lil sister ( i think she was in 2nd or 3rd grade?) shed make lego skits about people murdering eachother, with like, a lot of detail too. and i dont think she was raised on particularly violent media. she played pokemon go on her parents phone or doodles in kids drawing apps. i think kids just kinda gravitate towards these kinds of things, especially if theyre told theyre not supposed to.

reading wikis again, and the warriors thing is just such a mood, and idk if the creators understand dnd stats properly, or if he jus sucks that much at living, but negative stats are not possible. like players usually cant get below a 3. and -4 means he has like -7 con, so he has 1 hit points at first level, which is really pathetic. yes im going to nerd about this. (i think its super funny bc, like sure w a 19 for wisdom he probably wouldnt fail wis saves, but on the off chance that he did, viscious mockery, a bard cantrip, will knock him out no matter what, and if it rolls i think a 3 or 4 it completely kills him. he could be killed by a single insult.)

(ive been informed that this will make more sense once i finish it, and now im v scared)

again, the stats are SO EXTREME. not as bad as sydney. he could feasibly weild a weapon (strenghth or dex if finesse i think) he has reasonable con which is good bc wizards have absolutely no health. idk whats up with his wisdom (ive heard it described as 'street smarts' and int as 'book smarts' but i think it kinda goes hand in hand with rizz for interactions, bc its used for like insight, which is kinda important to talk to people.) (thats actually something id say maybe doesnt work well with sydneys high wis. so far it seems like, while he is quite observant, hes not always super great at reading the room, or at least thats what ive gathered)

also idk about the charisma bc so far jedidiah seems a bit more put together in the persuasion/deception/intimidation area of things.

they both rarely do their actual work, and have someone they care about who has a (maybe) irrational fear of something they cant understand

How regularly is “regularly”?: great question! LOL. it depends on the flow of fanfics that get uploaded, which i do not have any control over, but i’m looking forward to do this twice a month. after all, it’s only me doing this and i often run on a tight schedule.

What’s the format like?:

Why are you doing this?: from the beginning, my blog has hosted conversations about RPF (real people fiction) and crewfu pairings. this has evolved into people sending me updates about certain fics in the crewfu tags every now and then, but i wanna take the next step and just do these things myself. after all, i’m already lurking in the tags often to see the fics that get posted. as someone who is both a writer and a reader, i wanna appreciate fanfic writers and help out other people that want to read fanfic and consume more fandom content!

Will it be AO3 only?: well, ao3 has a very helpful tag system that makes finding fics incredibly easy, as well as allowing people with no accounts to like and comment on fics, so that’s the site i will personally look in for fanworks. but if there are any fics you’ve written or liked in any other platforms, such as wattpad, you can always contact me through my inbox (send an ask or a dm!), and i’ll make sure to include for the next fanfic spotlight :)

Does it mean you won’t reply to fic asks anymore?: yeah, i guess. since i’ll be doing the searching myself it seems counterproductive. but if i ever skip a fic or again, it’s in another platform, or you’ve posted/read the fic a while ago and you want to get more traction on it, hit me up and i’ll take it into consideration!

Will you read every single one of the fics on your list?: oh no. again, i run on a tight schedule, and also i have my own taste when it comes to fics. i won’t be reviewing fics or any of the sort, and my intention extends to simply sharing these fics to this page so people will have easier access to them :) that’s where ao3 tagging becomes SUPER useful!!!

So what’s the criteria for the way you’ll sort out the fics in your list?: word count, going from lowest to highest. in case of fics in other platforms, i guess i’ll put them at the top of the list. i’ll also be looking for fairly recent fics, so let me know if you want any old-ish fic to be included.

I see you talking mostly about 5up/Steve and Steve/Apollo. Can I still send/see other crewfu fics?: why yes absolutely! my goal is to push every fic which heavily features regular crewfu characters - 5uptic and supdog just happen to be very popular pairings. so, to give you a list: core 4 (5up, hafu, dk, steve), apollo, aipha, annie, janet, kimi, ellum, koji… you know the drill. it doesn’t have to be centered on a relationship, or about 5up in specific, etc. my only requirement is that any of the previously mentioned members are a central part of the fic or are HEAVILY featured in it (sorry, minecraft fics with 50+ tags who only mention 5up as an afterthought won’t make the cut :/).

Isn’t shipping Bad™?: well, it’s a little more nuanced than that. i will go out of my way to discourage and shame people who often violate CCs’ boundaries by acting like so and so has a crush on this person, or that this and that are Actually Into Each Other or secretly dating. any sort of tinhat bullshit is a big nono (think larries). but i run on the assumption that people who write rpf understand that what they’re doing is simply write a completely fictional story using real life personalities, and understand the boundaries necessary to do it - aka they’re not tinhats, they understand they can’t assume everything about CCs’ thoughts and personalities, they understand that what they’re writing is strictly fiction, they keep these works only in fandom circles, etc. (but again, it’s only one me doing this, so please be kind if i don’t happen to know that this person is Actually a tinhat or whatever).

Do you remember much from high school? I remember all of it!

Where would you go for the ultimate honeymoon? Somewhere warm and remote where you can escape society and just be 100% together and in the moment.

Do you know anyone who has a strong accent that is hard to understand? My husband’s family is all southern and when they start talking really fast on the phone, I have a hard time keeping up. He’s good at translating though!

What was the last podcast you listened to? Do you listen to it regularly? Ummm..Bailey Sarian’s new podcast! I believe there’s only one episode but I’m honestly not much of a podcast listener.

Are you more of an optimist or a pessimist, and why do you think this is? I’m a pessimist because of anxiety.

When was the last time you moved house? Last yeah!

Have you ever held a gun? Did you fire it? Nope.

When was the last time you threw up? Why were you sick? 8 years ago and I was drunk off my ass.

Are you on a first-name basis with your boss? (or last boss if unemployed) I’m my own boss but yes, I was on a first name basis with my last boss.

Would you ever wear a bright orange shirt? Of course!

What was the last thing you wrote in a word document? I was helping Beebs write up schedules.

Who do you miss and what do you miss about them? I miss my grandparents, man. I haven't seen them in like 4 years and it makes me so sad.

What were the best and worst costumes you've ever worn? My parents put 0 effort into halloween one year and so at the last minute they put one of my dad’s shirts on me and drew a mustache on. I don’t know what I was supposed to be but everybody thought I was a boy and I was not happy.

Do you know anybody who is gay and married? I don’t actually! All the gay people I know are single.

What did you last take painkillers for? I had a toothache!

Have you ever shared a home with a friend? Nope.

What's the craziest or weirdest place you've ever slept? Idk about y’all, but I sleep in a bed.

What did you have for lunch today and who made it? I made mac & cheese!

Do you believe in anything supernatural like ghosts or ghouls? Nope.

How many hours of sleep did you get last night? I stopped looking at the clock because I couldn’t sleep but like...6 hoursish?

Are you allergic to anything? How did you find out? Bananas. I’ve eaten them all my life and truly love them and then one day last year, I made myself a smoothie in the morning and I got SUPER nauseous with really bad back cramps. Was confused but I took ibuprofen and it went away after a few hours. The next day, same thing happened. Same with the day after that. And I couldn’t figure out why it was happening so I was like ‘k, it must be something I’m eating’. So I woke up and had a banana because I figured I'd play it safe. Got the same nausea and back cramps. So I skipped bananas for a few days and it didn’t happen at all. I looked into it and apparently that's a common allergic reaction. So I’ve never had them again.

What's your favourite Thai dish? I’ve actually never tried Thai food!

Do you have any alarms set? What time and what for? I have them set for every 5 minutes from 5-9 am I think, haha! My husband is hard to wake up so he sets hella alarms on both our phones and our Google home. And I set a bunch and forget to delete them later.

What are you going to do when this survey is over? Probably go sew.

Have you ever been on a date with someone you met online? How was it? I met my husband online! And they’ve all been great :)

What colour is the rug in your living area? We have carpet and I hate it.

Do you call it a couch, sofa, lounge or something else entirely? Usually a couch, sometimes a sofa.

Who is your favourite character on Friends? Chandler and Phoebe!

When was the last time you used a pair of headphones and what for? The other day I was cleaning so I had my AirPods in.

Describe the temperature of the area you're in right now. It is currently 70 and windy!

Who was the last very physically attractive person you saw? My husband :)

Have you ever had teppanyaki? I truly don’t know what that is.

How long does it take you to get ready before you go somewhere? It depends if I’m already ready or not. If I just need to get dressed, 5-10 minutes. If I need to do my hair, put makeup on, pick an outfit, and get dressed, probably like 3 hours.

Do you find it difficult to get rid of material possessions? It depends! Certain things I can look at and know I’m never gonna use it again or that I found something better to replace it but other things that are still perfectly good and I might use later? I hoard those a little bit.

What sort of games do you like to play? I like life simulators like Sims and Animal Crossing. But I also love a good board game!

What was the last candy you ate? I don’t remember!

Have you ever been hit in the face? What's the story? In the face with basketballs and dodgeballs a lot. And one time when I was like 13-14, I was crawling around after my little sister trying to tickle her and she elbowed me in the nose and made me bleed. We both cried.

Do you know anyone who is deaf? I do, actually!

Name one thing on your bucket list. Buy a house and foster a bunch of puppies.

Les Misérables: Part II, Book IV - Part III, Book VIII

Once again, I'm great at reading and bad at posting updates about it. I can consistently manage one thing on my blog--book reviews--and everything else gets fit in at random. I'm still reading Les Misérables regularly, and I just finished the Marius section this week so it seemed like a good time to post an update (although last month would have been better). This is slightly over half the book, which I'm really excited about because that means I'm slightly ahead of my schedule, and the prognosis is good for actually finishing it before the year is over.

Somewhere a while ago, I was starting to warm up to this book and actually look forward to reading it, and then I hit a bunch of dry sections including Terrifying Nuns & Their Living Habits, and the warm feelings went away. I've never had a book go so far in either direction as far as my feelings about it. Sometimes I can barely get through a section, and other times I'm completely drawn into the plot and the characters. I feel like there's probably a better way to balance this, but I don't know what it is. Maybe there's just no way to make boring historical things less boring. (In the novel's defense, history has never been my subject.) In those sections, I typically feel like I need another book just to explain to me what it is Hugo's getting at. There are probably some really good companion books out there, so I'm open to suggestions if you've read one.

It's difficult not to love Jean Valjean as a character, and the contrast set up between him and Javert is one of the best I've ever seen in literature. Valjean is an ex-convict, but he's pretty much always the most (or the only) morally good character on the page. Javert is a police inspector, but he's so rigidly committed to the law that morality escapes him sometimes. He's the danger of a doctrine that only sees in black and white. The chase scene when Javert first discovers Valjean's identity is very tense. I wished the narrative hadn't moved away from describing Valjean and Cosette's relationship over the years in more depth. The next time we see them, a lot of time has passed.

Things pick up again with the introduction of Marius and Les Amis de l'ABC. I found Marius easy to identify with, since he's like a lot of academics I know. We're terribly committed to whatever theory has caught our attention lately, have difficulty resurfacing from our books, and have absolutely zero chill when the person we like is nearby. I nearly died laughing in the chapters where he walks by Cosette (again and again and again) and basically acts like a super-kook whenever she's around. Hello, my name is Marius. I am a Dork Fish extraordinaire. Except he'd never make it past hello, as most dork fish do not. If that isn't my college love life in a nutshell, I don't know what is.

I'm still having trouble distinguishing all the members of Les Amis de l'ABC. In typical Hugo fashion, they're introduced in great detail and then not mentioned again for two hundred pages. Alice and I were making each other laugh sending videos of Aaron Tveit coaching people on how to pronounce Enjolras (very helpful). Then there’s the obvious romance between him and Grantaire. "He was austere, seeming not to be aware of the existence on earth of a creature called woman." There's a word for that, Hugo. It's called gay. "But, skeptic that he was, he had one fanatical devotion, not for an idea, a creed, an art or a science, but for a man - for Enjolras. Grantaire admired, loved, and venerated Enjolras." As if it needed more angst, Enjolras kind of hates Grantaire. Ships are built on way less than that, and I can see why they're the couple who have launched 10,000 fics on AO3. I think I care more about their potential love story than Marius and Cosette's actual one.

I hope there's more Eponine later in the book, since she's my favorite character in the movie. She's played a much smaller role so far, and I'm interested to see how she moves from barely knowing Marius to being in love with him and how Marius moves from distracted bookworm to revolutionary (and I'm going to be sad if that's purely an invention of the musical). Hugo proves once again that he can build tension when he puts his mind to it, but Marius's crisis of conscience when Thénardier corners Valjean is much less satisfying than some earlier in the novel, given the outcome (trying not to be spoilery). I'm back to having mostly good feelings about the book, but also nervous about how many more sections might be passionately dedicated to a single day in history or the minutiae of the Paris sewer system.

I LOVE…

Books. The outdoors. Clothes shopping. Finding good deals. Bike riding. Animals, especially cats. Exploring new places. Antiquing. Thrift shopping. Film photography. When someone takes me someplace new. Stargazing. Spending hours reading a book. Learning new languages, or just hearing them spoken. The Victorian era. Hot-tubbing. Trading music with friends. Going on hikes. Swimming in rivers/creeks/lakes/the ocean as opposed to swimming pools.

I DISLIKE… Hot and very humid weather. Driving in heavy, slow traffic. People who don’t realize how their actions affect others. Selfishness. When pets have “accidents” in the house. Bumper stickers like “Country Girl” or “Silly boys, trucks are for girls!” Politics in general. Feeling like I’m not in control of anything. People who treat everything I say as a joke. People who claim to be my friend and treat me badly. Twitter fights. Warm beer. Doing the dishes. Thistles. Feeling hopeless. That panic moment when I have no idea what I’m going to do for the rest of my life. How people still text and drive. Being broke. Not having a job.

It’s difficult for me to really get into a book. I love to eat lemons.

I prefer small venues for concerts opposed to large ones. Warped Tour isn’t as good as it used to be back in the ’90s. Yesterday was a good day. I would buy CDs all the time if I could afford it. Guitar Hero is overrated.

I’ve been grocery shopping recently.

All Time Low’s new stuff sounds much more New Found Glory than Blink 182.

I usually see the Harry Potter films within the first week of their release.

I’m going to a birthday party sometime in the next month. I prefer sans-serif fonts (Arial, Tahoma) to serif fonts (Times New Roman, Georgia). I don’t think peer pressure affects people as much as they say it does.

I still have a collection of VHS tapes. I would love to own a grand piano.

We use the back door of the house more often than the front door.

I absolutely love the insanity incorporated in some of Poe’s work.

Outer Space fascinates me.
