another thing i really love about cassette beasts is like, yes its very obviously got pokemon influence even when you ignore that theyre from the same genre (and i gotta stress INFLUENCE here, not ripoff) but its also got enough content to stand on its own feet. like this isnt just “pokemon to the left”, its a character focused survival story focused on helping out the community and doing your part, that involves connections and fusions and an entire overworld full of puzzles and quests. its a ton of fun
#i was talking to eve about this but i also like how the stuff thats influenced never feels like pretentious?#like the bootlegs are clearly influenced by shinies but theyre also very different- its not just a color swap- theres actual stat changes#and type changes to take into account so it really is a wild card#but that doesn’t necessarily make shinies worse. sometimes a color swap is all you need#or the professor guy in the ranger station whos like an expy of the professors#and part of it is that hes NOT a professor at all actually- hes just a sci fi nerd who loves playing the part#but it doesnt feel like a jab or an edgy parody or anything- not at all#mostly cause they show ingame that he DOES help new wirral a lot and he loves what he does for them#and hes still a useful guy in the game#echoed voice#it also helps that the animals arent your friends like in pokemon fjfjfjfjfj no they hate you#youre collecting data not the actual beasts#there’s no theme about connecting with the beasts or building a symbotic relationship#not out of a select few anyways#i also feel like this is the ideal adult pokemon experience bc its got the same vibe but its distinctly more adult in its themes#like. theres a body count in this game djfjfjfjfj#but it doesnt feel shoehorned in for the sake of going ‘’this aint your GRANDMAS pokemon’’

When I came across that "joke" from Tav to Quill and Z'rell's comment (plus Halsin), I had to take a minute to process what happened. Gale might be a bit silly and eccentric but he's the kindest, sweetest and most passionate character in that party. No wonder the poor man has deep insecurities to solve, so many people reduce him to an easy target! Ofc one of the side effects would be overconfidence and ambition as a defense mechanism. He's obv lonely; only Tara and Morena ever loved him for him.
his eccentric nature might be a part of it. he is loquacious, outgoing, and doesn’t see the point in hiding his enthusiasm. he is considered to be the weird one. naturally, wizards in general being seen as somewhat squishy and physically weak might also add to it.
personally, i really don’t like the implications of the (widely considered) autistic-coded character being the one who faces the most ridicule by far by other characters and fans (and larian) alike.
some might disagree with me on that, but i don’t find it funny by any means either. mostly it just makes me feel bad. “he deserves it. cocky, arrogant, hubris-ridden wizard needs to be taken down a peg” like he isn’t… y’know… already at his lowest. it also disregards the fact that much of his bravado is part of his carefully curated Great Wizard of Waterdeep™ persona that he has skillfully adopted to mask his general feeling of being defective. being fiercely proud of your skill and knowledge and being doubtful of having something truly worthwhile to offer are mindsets that can coexist. according to fandom, gale is either secret hubris incarnate that is only waiting to be unleashed upon the world or pure baby that can do no wrong. instead of a character that is just as flawed and traumatized as all the others, but no less deserving of genuine love.
to me, the constant ridicule just reads as further feeding into his deep-rooted insecurities and his belief that he (as gale, the person) isn’t someone who holds inherent worth. it really, really doesn’t sit well with me.

So I'm an RTD girlie who gave up on doctor who somewhere in the moffat era before chibnall even took over and so I've missed all of thirteen's tenure. I don't have it in me to watch all of her seasons at this moment in time but I LOVE Jodie and your gifs look so compelling.
Would you be able to recommend your top 5 episodes with 13 or something so I can rectify the error of my ways, at least a little bit?

The Woman Who Fell to Earth
It Takes You Away
Spyfall pts 1 & 2
The Haunting of Villa Diodati
And probably Fugitive of the Judoon and The Timeless Children just because those are very important series lore episodes that are important to watch even if you very much disagree with most of the choices that Chibnall made
Also probably The Power of the Doctor so you can watch Thirteen's full regeneration episode (and Jacob Anderson <3)
#questionbell#anonymous#i will also admit this openly: the gifs I'm reblogging look compelling because I'm very selectively cherry picking#the best part of each episode to amplify#i love jodie and i love thirteen so much but god are some of her episodes dull#chibnall had no idea what to do with her and the companions offer absolutely nothing#and i mean it. i do say this with love but jodie/thirteen could've been INCREDIBLE if she'd had anything good to work with#which is why she shines when she's up against sacha as the master#he gives her something to bounce off and play with whereas yaz just gawks at her like a bug under a microscope#but i do think the biggest issue is that there are just too many characters in each episode#villa diodati has like 10 characters in it which is far too many to successfully do anything with#because you can't further yaz's storyline while also making us care about shelley and the lone cyberman and the cyberium all in 50 minutes#and that's where i think the chib era suffered the most#it tried to do too much and in doing so accomplished nothing at all#anyway i do genuinely like these few episodes so you should very much check them out and form your own opinion#just don't watch rosa or orphan 55

GUYSSS!!! I AM. SO TERRIFIED/EXCITED. SO.
One of the colleges that I applied to... apparently I can now view my Acceptance Decision in, like, the college portal! I told my mother that I would wait until she gets home, though, before I see what it is, but now I am in waiting mode!!! So severely!!!
It's to a school that is, like... technically it's a safety school, but it's kind of my second choice, but like... oh dear. Most likely I got accepted, but if I didn't get accepted, than I am a little fucked.
#it's weird cuz like. my sat/gpa/extracurriculars/etc are good enough that the vast majority of schools are safeties for me#and then a few (like the ivies) are reach schools#but i have like. 5 actual match schools. only one of which is in state and public (it's my first choice)#the others are out of state and private and not really good for the majors i want to go into#so basically i have one actual match school but like. EVERYONE at my high school applies there and they are still PRETTY selective#like i so desperately hope that i get accepted to that one but it feels slim. anyway. the school that is getting back to me...#it is like. most likely where i will choose to go if my first choice doesn't accept me. i like the campus a lot and it's a good school#but like OUGH if i have in fact been accepted to this school i would be sooo relieved bc it means i have a good fallback#(and also that i haven't overestimated how i will do at admissions)#dante dicit#college applications#college

welp, just submitted a story to a lit mag whose response times can apparently be as big as 6 months so, now it's a waiting game to see which side the coin lands on but i should at least be close to the top of the reading pile if they go in order since submissions only opened a little over an hour ago so hopefully the response doesn't take forever.
