The first few 7” releases on Tru Thoughts bring back some good memories. A really exciting time for the label as I knew that Tru Thoughts really had some great creative people letting us release their music. The distributor at the time did not get why we wanted to put Bonobo out on a 7” as it was hard to get racking in HMV and Virgin at the time. Believe it or not you sometimes had to pay the chain stores to stock your music (via “ad campaigns”) and we did not have money to do that. Putting out the first QSO 45 was great as we had been playing the track out and it was so big we could not wait to get it on vinyl. Nostalgia 77 and Natural Self releases were also really big with the DJ’s and dancers. Nostalgia77's music speaks to me; it is really good, the dusty jazz groove is strong. The songs also challenge me; this is by no means easy listening. Accessible enough to draw you in the first few bars, and then demanding full attention to really perceive and appreciate it. This music is not something to put on in the background while doing work or social activities. If you are stubborn and do use it as a backdrop, be aware that you won't get the full experience out of it.

The new LP 'A Journey Too Far' will feature more of the awesome quirky singer Josa Peit who also featured on the last N77 album. The album will be released February 24 2014, but is already available for pre-order @ Etch Shop.

Ce que j'aime avec ces bringuebales du Jazz, ces élégants freaks de Nostalgia 77, c'est cette capacité à jouer en un lieu qu'on s'imagine familier. Un lien paisible, un foyer-studio, une cabane à sons qui déborde de familiarité, entre les mégots de cigarette, la tambouille qui s'échappe au dehors, le canapé velours repris 25 milles fois. Leur musique respire la proximité et l'élégance. Faut aimer un peu le Jazz. Faut s'accorder le quart de liberté qui va avec. Un bourgogne peut suffire.
