I must know, monolingual fool that I am, what this says in English.
Here you go:
TRANSLATION
You do know that I'm going to have to translate this post as well, and it'll be terrible. Last time I spent an hour translating the original post!
But oh well.
For those who don't remember the original Norwegian Bella-post, Bella is Norwegian and hasn't learned English before moving to live with her father in Forks. It's so embarrassing, she refuses to admit this weakness to anybody.
In this AU she decides to just tear the bandaid off, if she doesn't admit to not speaking English she risks her well-intentioned father leaking it instead.
She is as exciting as she could possibly be. Imagine, a true European has come to little Forks! People have a great many questions for her, but the difference from other timelines is that these questions are accompanied by heavy gesturing og repeated slowly, in the hopes that Bella will understand questions posed in a foreign language if the questions are posed more slowly.
"How much English do you know? ENG-LISH, HOW MUCH" is a frequently occurring one.
Mike fights his way through an English-Norwegian dictionary so he can ask Bella if it's true that all Norwegian women are blonde and tall, or if that's just Hollywood.
Tyler asks her questions in Spanish.
Edward, who has met his singer, does not care what language she speaks. He flees to Denali.
A week later he's back, and Bella, who is being followed everywhere by her self-declared English tutor, one Mike Newton, reacts as she did in canon. She finds Edward's return uncomfortable.
Edward, who was so set on talking to her and preparing for that, had forgotten that she doesn't speak English.
"Hi," he says.
"Heisann," Bella answers, the most demonstratively Norwegian greeting she can throw at him.
Edward stares at her in bafflement and only realizes then that the girl doesn't speak English.
And Norwegian happens to be one of the languages Edward doesn't speak.
He knows over a dozen languages, many of them closely related to Norwegian, but Norwegian is just one of those languages that was always on the agenda. He had vague plans of learning the nordic language next time he was travelling around, but he hadn't actually gotten that far.
And now he's standing there, with Bella Swan who has her English name and English-speaking family, born in America, and who doesn't speak a word of English.
"Parlez-vous français ?" he tries after a moment.
Bella has actually taken French as a foreign language in middle school and high school, but she's terrible at it.
"Pas beaucoup," she mumbles, and blushes.
Edward lights up. "On peut parler, donc ?"
Mike turns around to stare at them, eyes bright with curiosity.
And Bella realizes that if she lets Edward know she speaks some French, then half the school will know through Mike before lunchtime.
And then Bella will be stuck having to navigate her way through conversations in atrocious French, where the people she's talking to will supplement their French with English every time they don't know the words.
No thanks, better to be a blissfully languageless foreigner.
"Jeg snakker ikke fransk," (I don't speak French,) she quickly tells Edward, before moving her chair as far from his as possible.
Edward is fascinated.
The day after the truck accident happens, and she ends up at the hospital.
Carlisle walks into the ER. "Jeg hører rykter om at vi har en norsktalende ung dame her inne i dag," (Rumor has it we have a Norwegian girl in today) he says, and offers Bella a winning smile.
"Ja!" (Yes!) she exclaims, happy and surprised. "Snakker du norsk?" (You speak Norwegian?)
Carlisle, who hasn't been to Norway in many years, is surprised the girl is using informal pronouns with him, but figures that kids these days are less formal.*
*Prior to the 1970's, the Norwegian language rigorously enforced the T-V distinction.
Carlisle offers up an easy (and prepared) answer for why he knows Norwegian. "Ja, jeg tilbragte somrene mine på Tjøme som barn." (Yes, I spent my summers at Tjøme as a child.)
"Åja," (Oh) Bella answers.
Bella is so thrilled to finally have someone she can converse with properly that she forgets to tell Carlisle about Edward's impossible rescue.
After the examination the Cullens have their infamous meeting, which ends with Alice informing them that Edward loves Bella.
"How can he love her?" Rosalie demands. "They don't understand a word of what the other is saying!"
Edward must concede Rosalie is right.
How can he love a girl he's never had a conversation with?
He visits Bella that night, and to his shock he finds Alice is right.
He can't explain why, but he looks at this girl where she sleeps, ever so vulnerable, with blood heavenly to the point where he can only imagine God created her for his sake, and he feels himself change. He is devoted to this girl, and he will never be able to live without her.
He loves her.
Edward runs home to Carlisle, and asks him to teach Edward Norwegian. They spend the night on Edward learning glossaries and simple sentences, and when Edward shows up at school again he brings Ibsen's En Folkefiende (Enemy of the People) (Carlisle's recommendation). He also reads a Norwegian dictionary, and memorizes all the words in it.
The day goes by uneventfully. Bella can't confront Edward with how he rescued her when they don't speak the same language, even if she could ask him she wouldn't understand his answer. She's wondering if she could get in touch with his father again, as Dr. Cullen actually does speak Norwegian. Maybe she could drop by with flowers as a thank-you for the treatment, and ask to talk for a few moments while she's there?
But, a young girl presenting a married man with flowers and wanting to talk to him privately will get awkward, especially when the man in question looks the way Carlisle does. People would draw conclusions.
Bella ponders her conundrum.
Edward, in the meantime, has learned enough Norwegian from the dictionary, from Ibsen, and from Carlisle that he can understand some Norwegian. He glows brightly with confidence.
"God morgen," (Good morning) he says to Bella in Biology, in fluent Norwegian.
Bella stares. "Snakker du norsk?!" (You talk Norwegian?!) she blurts.
"Noe," (Some) Edward smiles.
"Hvorfor sa du ikke noe?" (Why didn't you say anything?) Bella demands, both surprised and pleased. "Hallo, jeg har jo ikke hatt noen å snakke med!" (I haven't had anybody to talk to!)
That she spoke fast wasn't a problem by itself, but that Bella pulled "har jo ikke" into one word, "ha-jo'kke" and "du ikke" also become one word, "du'kke", makes Edward smile stiffen for a second as he decodes what she just said.
"Jeg lærer," (I'm learning,) he says, and doesn't dare say more.
"Men du har jo nydelig uttale! Like god som faren din," (But you have beautiful pronunciation! As good as your father,) Bella says, still very happy, and oblivious to the fact that Edward's pronunciation is so similar to Carlisle's because he copied it, phoneme by phoneme.
Edward just smiles as he concentrates on combining the sounds Bella is making with the phonetic spellings of Norwegian words he picked up from the dictionary.
He's quiet for a few seconds before answering.
"Takk." (Thanks.)
Bella wonders how much Norwegian he really speaks, but he continues before she can ask.
"Carlisle er en god lærer," (Carlisle is a good teacher.) he says.
Bella is really impressed by the Norwegian he has shown so far.
And realizes that she can now confront him with the incident the day before, when he saved her from being hit by a car.
So she asks about it.
Edward stares. Han hadn't realized she'd have noticed what he did during the accident, certainly not so much of it.
"Jeg er ikke veldig god i norsk," (I'm not very good at Norwegian) he quickly says, and the rest of Biology class is spent with him answering solely in English or overly broken Norwegian each time she makes an overture.
Bella's now more suspicious than ever.
The next day Edward seeks her out, and he tells her in Norwegian that's markedly better than it was the day before that she hit her head, she doesn't remember correctly. That's that.
Bella asks if he was always this good at Norwegian.
"Carlisle er en god lærer," (Carlisle is a good teacher.) he says.
Bella goes to La Push, where she doesn't know Jacob as they didn't grow up together, and she never hears any legends.
Port Angeles happens as in canon, just because she doesn't speak Norwegian doesn't mean Jessica wants to exclude her. Bella can still point to dresses and offer her Scandinavian perspective on fashion. The difference from canon is that when Edward rescues her she has no vampire theories to present him with.
Bella suspects a robot.
Edward is obviously not human, he has super strength, looks a little too perfect, his skin is stone hard. If he's a robot it would explain his language skills, she knows he didn't speak Norwegian that first week. The language must have been uploaded to him and the delay was because the package wasn't operative right away.
The Cullens are most likely a military project, where they've placed highly sophisticated robots in a society to test how well they can blend in among humans. It certainly makes more sense than "mad scientist lost control of his robot army".
She confronts Edward with this theory.
Edward... supposes he's glad she doesn't know he's a vampire. He's a bit disappointed, but... isn't this a good way to protect her?
If Bella knows he's not human, and that she must keep this a secret, but she doesn't know the darker side of things, is that not the best of two worlds?
So he tells her he's never out in the sun because of the material his skin is made of. He'll show her what he means.
(He needs to buy himself some time to come up with a good explanation for his new robot self that is as close to the truth as possible without Bella finding out he drinks blood.)
They meet up in the meadow, and he lights up like in canon. He tells her this is because he charges in the sun, it was either this or sun panels on his back and those would have been too conspicuous. The sparkle means he's charging.
Because he doesn't want her thinking Edward Cullen is just bytes and electrical circuits, he tells her that he was once a human just like her, but the seventeen-year-old he was become terminally ill, and his parents agreed to a science project that would give his consciousness a chance to live on. Due to security concerns he never saw them again after that, the point is he and all his family were once human.
(Neither of them realizes that this is all strongly inspired by the plot of Robocop.
It helps that they never watched Robocop.)
Bella doesn't doubt it.
When they meet James, Bella doesn't catch any of what the robots are saying in English, but she's fascinated by what appears to be rogue robots who walk around without any purpose or missions.
Edward explains to her that some robots break free and become rogues. These robots are very dangerous and must be destroyed at all cost. He goes on to explain to Bella that the robots they encountered now intend to kill her because... well, robots can be very dangerous, and these ones are clearly mad.
The rest of the family (who also learned Norwegian. Rosalie wouldn't have, just to spite Edward, but the unfortunate fact is that she learned it in the 80's so she's stuck) just stares.
(No one points out that this is all strongly inspired by the plot of Blade Runner.
Blade Runner for the record being another film Edward hasn't seen.)
Canon carries on more or less, with increasingly colorful explanations from Edward. James' bite burned the way it did because of battery acid, and Jasper attacked her because he's programmed to kill humans that are bleeding (it's a military thing. Don't ask, Bella).
The rest of the family doesn't quite know what to make of all this, but no one wants to walk up to a human girl and tell her vampires are real, so no one says anything.
Bella, in the meantime, nourishes a hope that she might become part of this military project. She understand that this would be difficult, but she has a brain, she's patriot enough, and she wants to be part of the Cullen family so badly.
Edward explains to her that this will take years to get approved, and they only take the terminally ill anyway. It's unlikely she ever gets approved, and even then she'll be well over thirty by the time it happens, by which time technology will have changed so she's a different model than Edward. Life is rough like that.
Jasper's attack on her is a shock to Edward, who realizes that he's living a lie with a girl who doesn't have a future with him anyway.
He tells her that their romance was a training mission for him. Could he seduce a teen girl and be her lover for half a year? Was he sophisticated enough for that? The answer was yes, so now his task has been completed.
Thank you and good-bye, Bella.
He leaves.
Bella is left there, heartbroken.
She tries to find solace in the fact that the robot she loved passed the Turing Test thanks to her, but that's a meager comfort.
She starts hanging out with Jacob Black, communicating isn't easy for them but he can fix motorcycles, and motorcycles are what Bella wants.
A few months later she jumps from a cliff, and is surprised to find Alice in her house.
Alice sticks to the robot lie, there's no point in vampire truths when the relationship with Edward is over anyway. She stays for two days seeing as she'd missed Bella, and that's when the fateful phone call happens.
Bella and Alice go to Volterra, and Alice can only hope Aro will show Edward some mercy. After all, he didn't tell Bella what he really was.
She tells Bella that the Volturi are like James, but unlike James. They are rogues, but considerably more sophisticated than James was. They're loaded, and... some of them have a virus that make their skin and eyes discolored.)
(Aro, on his end, is... well, impressed by Edward is a nice way to put it. A very nice way.
He wonders if anyone among the Cullens have realized that the word "vampire" doesn't actually matter.)
Bella gets to Edward in time, and the gang is led down into the underground Volturi palace.
(Bella marvels at the obvious age of the palace. How long has the technology for these robots been around? Edward was always vague on that point.)
Aro takes one look at gifted Bella, who's miraculously alive and so very valuable, and immediately tells her the truth. He's a vampire, Edward is a vampire, all the Cullens are vampires, everyone's a vampire. The robot thing was a lie.
Edward is horrified, it's all over now that Bella knows.
Alice can only sigh, Edward should have told the truth from the start.
And Bella stares at Aro, this rogue who obviously has a virus. He looks blind.
Vampires.
Uh huh.
Nice try, fella.
She doesn't buy it.
Aro tries, but soon has to give up on convincing her they're vampires. Edward learned a language in two days, he became fluent, that's not a vampire thing.
Aro still asks Bella if he wants to be one of them.
And Bella just laughs, she knows that process takes years, there's mountains of paperwork to clear. She'd love to be a robot, but let's be realistic here, guys.
And Aro gives up on the truth. He has to play along, or lose his window with Bella.
So he corrects Bella to "cyborg" in a quiet voice, if he's to be a technological miracle he will at the very least be a correctly named technological miracle.
He then tells her that he has the tech required to make her a cyborg. That's why he has so many vampires (sorry, cyborgs) with him. He made them all!
Edward cries out that all of Aro's robots have viruses and their programming is spaghetti code. Bella's gonna have so many bugs and error messages that she never gets anything done.
Edward is escorted out of the room.
Bella is left feeling very dubious, it's not like she wants a virus.
But she does so want to be a robot. Or a cyborg, whatever they're called (Edward never gave her the name of the model).
Aro promises her she won't get any viruses, the only reason why he, Marcus, and Caius have any is that they agreed to a software update that turned out to contain malware. Had they taken a moment to realize update notifications don't usually come as pop-ups on the internet or in Marcus's case in the mail, this sorry business could all have been avoided. Bella needs only learn from their experiences and mind what she downloads, she'll be fine.
Bella says yes.
She gets a terrible shock when Aro's laboratory turns out to be an empty room in which he bites her, and she wakes up three days later with a terrible thirst in her throat.

Hi there! I just found ur Tumblr blog and was wondering if you tell me what kind of cat or specialty stuff my male cat blade is (sorry if this is sudden or seen as rude or something)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Sorry I don't really have many good images of him since my camera sucks)
Or maybe my female cat Bella which has been a huge debate if she is a mianecoon or a forest cat of sorts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Left image is her younger and right is rn
Love what ur doing on this blog love learning about cats
Hello! Welcome, i'm glad you like it!
Your cats are both black tabbies (which is the same as brown tabbies). I'd say Blade is a mackerel tabby with white, his pattern is kinda faint, but i think the vertical lines are visible on his flank. Bella is a blotched (aka classic) tabby without doubt.
I hope i don't disappoint you too much, but Bella is very likely neither maine coon nor any other kind of forest cat, or even a descendant. Most domestic cats have zero purebred ancestors. What's more, maine coons, norwegians and siberians (these are the most common and well known forest cats) all have very specific head shapes, and to me, Bella does not show any of them.

Do you think Twilight could have happened in a place other than USA without changes? Your post about lack of parking lots made me think about it. In my country you legally cant obtain a license until you're 18, and most people finish school at 17, so there aren't any school parking lots. In many countries there aren't blood taking days, in some people can't pick and choose their classes or their seat arrangements in class, or they have solitary tables. Could all these small things add up to not having Bella dead or undead until her natural end? /well, except for "Bella lives in Iraq and gets married off at ten" scenarios
Twilight's very American.
Being American myself, it's hard to judge, so @therealvinelle should probably weigh in with her non-American opinion. Or perhaps regale us with a Norwegian version of Twilight.
(Though for the record, I never did blood testing in class, though I also did comparatively little Biology and only did basic cell things. So perhaps it's standard and I just didn't go advanced enough.)
But yes, I imagine changes would have to be made. Whether they're changes we'd call in any way "significant" I doubt. Most of those things you mentioned are just plot devices used to give Bella information and to move the story along.
Bella nearly being hit by the van in the parking lot makes Edward reveal his supernatural abilities. If he hadn't done that, then Bella wouldn't have as much reason to question him/eventually question Jacob and believe him when he says "lol vampire". The blood testing was to give more clues, Edward purposefully avoids the class on the day they're doing it, knowing in advance and knowing it's a bad idea, and also reveal that Bella smells super extra delicious to Edward specifically. It got Bella and Edward talking after the van incident when Edward had been trying to avoid her and helped make "vampire" sound less silly.
Bella's taking gym as a required class is mostly so we the audience can laugh at her sympathize. It also reveals she's stupid clumsy which has plot relevance in that she will never ever win a fight ever. And she never does.
The prom is just so Edward realizes he has rivals and so at the end we get Bella in a hot outfit dancing with Edward in an equally hot outfit.
But they can all be replaced easily with other things.
Instead of a car, a light fixture can nearly fall on Bella's head, but Edward pushes her out of the way in time when he'd been across the room. For some reason, no one else noticed. The blood testing bit can be dropped altogether and be replaced with Jasper staring weirdly at someone's split lip. Bella on grilling Edward about what's up with that says something very vague and enigmatically mysterious. We can drop the upcoming dance and just have boys asking Bella out normally, and her avoidance of it becoming increasingly ridiculous to avoid drama, which intrigues Edward of course. And we can replace the Quileutes in the know with pick your group of people who are very insular/have a poorly recorded history/and are somewhat separate from the place Bella's in who can get weird about the Cullens.
The important thing is not necessarily 'what' happened but what it enabled and how it affected the characters. If the cultural is similar enough to America 2005 that Edward and Bella can get together in a very similar manner, then it's green lights go.
I can't think of a single thing that can't be replaced and keep the heart and soul of the story, every major plot point, intact.
Now, culturally, Bella and the Cullens as non-Americans could be significantly different, but Edward's mysterious hot charm would probably be culturally universal to Bella. And non-American Edward would still be Edward underneath the hood, he just has different cultural trappings.

The 2023 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to jailed Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi for “her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all,” the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced in Oslo on Friday.
Mohammadi, 51, has been sentenced to more than 30 years in prison, and has been banned from seeing her husband and children. Her name has become synonymous with the battle for human rights in Iran, where nationwide protests broke out last year following the death of Mahsa Amini. Amini was a 22-year-old woman who had been taken into custody by the regime’s notorious morality police.
In awarding the prize to Mohammadi, the Nobel Committee said it “recognizes the hundreds of thousands of people who in the preceding year have demonstrated against the theocratic regimes’ policies of discrimination and oppression targeting women.”
“Her brave struggle has come with tremendous personal costs. Altogether, the regime has arrested her 13 times, convicted her five times, and sentenced her to a total of 31 years in prison, and 154 lashes,” Norwegian Nobel Committee chair Berit Reiss-Andersen said at the announcement ceremony.
“Ms. Mohammadi is still in prison as I speak,” Reiss-Andersen added.
Mohammadi said she will continue striving for “democracy, freedom, and equality” in a message shared with CNN by her family on Wednesday, to be released in case she won the prize.
It is not clear whether Mohammadi knows about her win. Her friends and family told CNN that those detained in Iran’s notorious Evin Prison are not allowed to receive calls on Thursdays and Fridays.
In the statement, Mohammadi said she would stay in Iran to continue her activism “even if I spend the rest of my life in prison.”
“Standing alongside the brave mothers of Iran, I will continue to fight against the relentless discrimination, tyranny, and gender-based oppression by the oppressive religious government until the liberation of women,” she said.
Taghi Rahmani, Mohammadi’s husband, told CNN that the prize is “for all the people of Iran.” Rahmani, a fellow activist and former political prisoner who served a total of 14 years in regime jails, lives in exile in France with their twin children.
“This prize is not just for Narges; it is for all the people of Iran. A movement in which Iranian women and men took to the streets, stood for months, and fought to show that they will continue to struggle for democracy and civil equality,” Rahmani said.
In a separate statement to CNN, Mohammadi’s family said: “Although the years of her absence can never be compensated for us, the reality is that the honor of recognizing Narges’ efforts for peace is a source of solace for our indescribable suffering. “It has been more than eight and a half years since she has seen her children, and she has not heard their voices for over a year. All of this signifies what she has endured on the path to realizing her aspirations. Therefore, for us, who know that the Nobel Peace Prize will aid her in achieving her goals, this day is a blessed day,” the family statement added.
Incarcerated, but not silenced
Despite being jailed, not even the dark cells of Tehran’s Evin Prison have crushed Mohammadi’s powerful voice.
In an audio recording from inside the jail, shared with CNN ahead of Friday’s announcement, Mohammadi, is heard leading the chants of “woman, life, freedom” – the slogan of the uprising sparked last year by Amini’s death. Amini was arrested for allegedly not wearing her headscarf properly.
The recording is interrupted by a brief automated message – “This is a phone call from Evin Prison” – as the women are heard singing a Farsi rendition of “Bella Ciao,” the 19th-century Italian folk song that became a resistance anthem against fascism and has been adopted by Iran’s freedom movement.
“This period was and still is the era of greatest protest in this prison,” Mohammadi told CNN in written responses to questions submitted through intermediaries.
Mohammadi was one of 351 candidates for this year’s award – the second-highest number in the history of the Nobels. She became the 19th woman to win the award in more than 120 years of the prize.
Oleksandra Matviichuk, a Ukrainian human rights lawyers who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022, commended the committee’s decision to honor Mohammadi.
“We live in a very interconnected world. Right now, people in Iran are fighting for freedom. Our future depends on their success,” Matviichuk posted on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
At Friday’s news conference announcing the award, Reiss-Andersen said: “Only by embracing equal rights for all can the world achieve the fraternity between nations that Alfred Nobel sought to promote,”
“The award to Narges Mohammadi follows a long tradition in which the Norwegian Nobel Committee has awarded the Peace Prize to those working to advance social justice, human rights and democracy. These are important preconditions for lasting peace,” she added.
‘Woman, life, freedom’
Henrik Urdal, director of the Peace Research Institute Oslo, described Mohammadi’s win as “a tremendous achievement for women’s rights in Iran.”
“Women in the country have been fighting for equality and freedom for generations, and the death of Mahsa Amini became a catalyst against oppression and violence,” Urdal said in a statement to CNN.
“Today’s laureate, unfairly jailed in Tehran, sends a powerful message to the leaders of Iran that women’s rights are fundamental everywhere in the world,” he said.
Mohammadi’s recognition comes after a year of huge upheaval in Iran, sparked by Amini’s death, which swelled into nationwide protests lasting months. Reiss-Andersen described the unrest as “the largest political demonstrations against Iran’s theocratic regime since it came to power in 1979.”
They were met by a brutal government crackdown. “More than 500 demonstrators were killed. Thousands were injured, including many who were blinded by rubber bullets fired by the police. At least 20,000 people were arrested and held in custody,” Reiss-Andersen said.
Last month marked the one-year anniversary of Amini’s death. Video obtained by CNN showed further demonstrations throughout multiple cities in Iran, including capital Tehran, Mashad, Ahvaz, Lahijan, Arak and the Kurdish city of Senandaj.
Many of the protesters shouted “Woman, Life, Freedom,” and others chanted slogans against Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
The long road to the Nobel
Mohammadi, who studied for a degree in physics at Imam Khomeini International University in the 1990s, initially worked as an engineer, while writing columns for reformist Iranian newspapers, Berit Reiss-Andersen said at Friday’s news conference.
In 2003, she joined the Defenders of Human Rights Center in Iran, an organization founded by the Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shirin Ebadi.
Mohammadi was arrested for the first time in 2011 and convicted in part because of her membership of the Defenders of Human Rights Center. After being released on bail two years later, Mohammadi began to campaign against the use of the death penalty.
“Iran has long been among the countries that execute the highest proportion of their inhabitants annually,” the committee acknowledged. Since January last year, more than 860 prisoners have been punished by death in the country.
Mohammadi was arrested and sentenced again in 2015 for her activism against capital punishment. But her work continued from inside Evin, as she began to oppose human rights abuses committed against political prisoners.
CNN reported last year on how Iran’s security forces used rape to quell the protests that broke out after the death of Amini.
With media access inside Iran severely constrained, CNN went to the region near Iraq’s border with Iran, interviewing eyewitnesses who had left the country and verifying accounts from survivors and sources both in and outside Iran, to corroborate several reports of sexual violence against protesters.
One Kurdish-Iranian woman, whom CNN is calling Hana for her safety, says she both witnessed and suffered sexual violence while detained. “There were girls who were sexually assaulted and then transferred to other cities,” she said.
Iranian officials did not respond to CNN’s request for comment on the alleged abuses.
Since the anniversary of Amini’s death, Iran has continued its crackdown on women’s rights. Its parliament passed draconian new legislation in September, imposing much harsher penalties on women who breach hijab laws. The so-called “hijab bill,” which will be enacted for a three-year trial period, sets out various regulations around the wearing of clothing, which if violated can carry up to 10 years in prison.
UN experts said the new law could amount to “gender apartheid.”
“Authorities appear to be governing through systemic discrimination with the intention of suppressing women and girls into total submission,” the experts said in a statement.

Her name is Bella, she's almost 4 years old, she's at least partially mainecoon but we're pretty sure there's potentially some Norwegian Forest Cat in her too. She has exactly 0 braincells and a brain full of floof))

I think it's fun to imagine the absolute language barrier that would come with a reader in aware! Hisui, especially if it is in a language not translated by the game already. They just hear the reader through the screen speaking in an unknown language while also navigating the game in the current language ; and if they were to go into the game -
Laventon gets all his notes in Norwegian from Reader after their field work, to Volo it sounds like they speak in runes, Kamado gets insulted in unknown curses but they sound so sweet one would never be able to tell.
Gonna start signing my stuff if that's alright
- ☆ Laggy
Hi ☆ Laggy!! Yes, this is super cute! I love hearing other languages, especially through song <3 I'm teaching myself Italian at the moment, so I love this!! Also, I'm guessing the reader is bilingual since they're playing the game in a different language than their mother tongue. Please correct me if I'm wrong, though!
🍓🍓🍓
Laventon:
He loves hearing you speak. Your language is so beautiful to him, words flowing off your tongue like magic. He especially loves what you call him. "Skatten min" He doesn't know what it means, but he loves hearing you exclaim it whenever you see him
Should you join him in Hisui, he's eager to learn your language. He already has notes from observing you talk about things in Hisui. Many of his guesses of the definitions are incorrect in one way or another, but he's open to you correcting him. He fumbles his way through your mother tongue, trying hard to be able to speak with you in the language that raised you. He wants to bond with you over it (and also to understand the notes you give him)
When he finds out the meaning of "Skatten min" he blushes for the rest of the day
Tries to express his love to you in Norwegian, blushing and squirming the whole time. Kiss him, please. He's doing his best
Volo:
Fully believes you're speaking the language of the gods. He listens to you for hours, keeping close to the hero just so he can get a hint of your voice, the language pouring from your lips like molten gold. You called him a "polpetto" and he needs to know what it means
When you end up in Hisui, he's begging you to speak to him in your divine language. You're confused by his request, but talk to him in your mother tongue, teaching him as he desires. He only uses it for moments of upmost importance, when speaking to you
When you tell him what "polpetto" means, he leaves to go scream into a pillow. Really? He thought it meant something more. . . regal
You speaking in Italian calms him. Listening to your voice, so soothing and soft, not fully understanding the words, helps his mind relax. His thoughts aren't running away from him when you speak. You can easily talk him to sleep. Use this power wisely
🍓🍓🍓
"Skatten mi" means either "my treasure" or "my beloved" in Norwegian I'm not sure which
"polpetto" means "meatball" in Italian
And for those curious, my blog name, bella fragolina, means pretty little strawberry, hence the motif <3
Hope you liked it ☆ Laggy!!

Tumblr is showing me dogs, so. If freaking the dogs out or eating them wasn't a problem, what breed of dog do you see each Cullen having?
I might be the wrong person to ask as my reference frame isn't American, but I'll try.
Alice gets a pomeranian. They're tiny, pretty, and funny-looking, lots of fur you can have your fun grooming and putting ribbons in, and most importantly they fit in a purse.
Tumblr media
Bella gets the dog most similar to Jacob's wolf form she can find. I'm thinking Alaskan malamute with sable coat.
Tumblr media
Carlisle gets a low maintenance breed since he wants to be able to work as much as possible and would hate to leave Esme on dogsitting duty. He additionally wants to get a healthy breed. He lands on the gray Norwegian elkhound, a high energy breed but one that sheds little and thrives in dog enclosures (they need to get one anyway, since everyone's getting dogs. The entire lawn is fenced in.) The dog revolutionizes hunting by finding game for him, he just sets it loose and follows the barking.
Tumblr media
Edward chooses an intelligent, wise breed that he feels is of a noble disposition without being too mainstream. He gets a German shorthaired pointer, a very intelligent and easily trained bird dog. (Yes, the picture is of a puppy, not an adult, but... look at it)
Tumblr media
Emmett gets a hunting dog he can bring along on hunts. It needs to be one that keeps in close contact, one that can spice the hunt up a bit. He ends up getting a bird dog, so they can run around sneaking up on and then spooking flocks of birds. It's awesome. He gets a gordon setter.
Tumblr media
Esme gets a pleasant dog that can keep her company inside all day without shedding too much, one that will easily learn tricks. She gets a toy poodle.
Tumblr media
Jasper gets a shelter dog because he likes projecting like that. A heartwarming time is had as he uses his gift to alleviate the dog's anxiety and aggression, and they frolic in fields together.
Renesmee was going to get a dog since the entire family was getting dogs, but Jacob got too weird about it. She was campaigning for a cat when Bella and Carlisle's respective dogs had puppies, and the fussy result is given out to the Denali- and to Renesmee. (Having no idea what this would look like, I give you a picture of an elkhound puppy)
Tumblr media
Rosalie gets a family dog to accompany her on hunts along with Emmett. In other words, she makes sure either Edward or Emmett get a female and then collects a puppy (while having complicated emotions about motherhood and puppies) (the dog pictured is an english setter-german pointer mix, not gordon setter, but english and gordon being sister breeds it's close enough. For the record I chose gordon over english or irish for Emmett because gordons are more robust than the english while being more generally agreeable than the irish).

Some redesigns I've been working on. I got a list of 16 characters left to update, these two included
I decided to use Yume's old modern outfit designs as a starting point for Belladonna's new look, since Yume won't be part of this story after all. She will go through quite the story change, including not being Konjou/Clover's mother anymore. (And probs just being called Bella/not being japanese witch anymore)
The guy is Clover's bf Jinchou, tho I will change his name as he also will no longer be japanese. I wanted to give him a norwegian/scandinavian name, so @spokelseskladden lended me some of his expertise with that. Haven't really decided yet, but at least thanks to them I know how to avoid accidentally naming him like a horse, an old man, or old man horse lmao

is amber (or light amber) plus golden a thing? I've only seen it with silver thus far.
Pawpeds doesn't give me any '*ty' cats, but there are several '*ts 11' - amber silver shaded ones: these cats do carry both amber and golden (wide band). One of them, Bella Luchs Skien (NFO ats 11 - light amber silver shaded tabby) even had a picture uploaded:
Tumblr media
She theoretically could have amber golden kittens.
My (amateur and personal) opinion: you won't find any, because even if a cat is genetically amber golden, it won't be pedigreed like that. Wide band is overall quite rare among norwegians, and there isn't much active breeding for goldens. Maybe i'm biased, because i specifically seek out the latter, but according to my impressions at the moment amber is far more common. (Silver on the other hand is very popular.) So amber goldens maybe exist, but they are very rare.
Amber and golden are phenotypically quite similar, and i wouldn't be surprised if it was increasingly difficult to differentiate between an amber and an amber golden. This could mean cats will be pedigreed as one or the orther, but not really both. (Historically, ambers and amber carriers were sometimes writted down as goldens, especially when the color was not yet recognised.)
A case study, which probably doesn't have any amber goldens, but at least illustrates the confusion of the situation:
Thuraya's Aurélie Bhakti is a black tabby as per pawpeds, golden on her breeder's website:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She carries amber, and looks like this:
Tumblr media
These are her parents:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her father (on the left) is very clearly not golden. Her mother is amber.
Aurélie had two litters, without any overly obviously golden kittens (but these lines have lots of ambers, dilution, white spotting and different kind of tabbies, so i can't say negative confidently).
So is Aurélie just a very warm amber-carrier, and without any (other) wide band present whatsoever, or is her mother amber golden? (Or this is a recessive wide band situation, which is honestly absolutely possible.) I'm leaning toward the former, but can't say I'm 100% sure. (Sidenote: carrying amber is another very tricky thing, some cats become almost as warm as a real amber, some show literally no sign being anything else but a regular black or blue tabby.)

How realistic do you find that everyone in BD speaks English? Vampires have no reason to do speak an "universal language"and most of them were created when English wasn't "popular" also I don't see why Amun would allow this, he might speak it but by letting his coven learn languages they can interact with the world. I even doubt that Kebi knows to read. Also the amazons supposedly never interact with others so why would they even speak English?
Well, we have a bit of an explanation here: they are all good friends with the Cullens and met them previously.
Except the Romanians, but those two seem to be keeping up with the up and up in that they heard about the Cullens through the grapevine. I'm sure they speak most languages so they can get any hint of an uprising.
Stefan and Vladimir are working hard, man.
But back to the others.
These are all people that at the very least Carlisle has met if not the others. It's not inconcievable that, if the Amazonians hadn't known English (highly likely) then they'd learn English and at least some subset of the Cullens would learn what they spoke.
Then, as Bella only knows English/English is the common language among everyone there, they default to it so as not to be rude.
Though there is a hilarious alternate Breaking Dawn where Bella sits in a corner and cries because no one's speaking English and no one's telling her what's going on.
It'd be like if we had Twilight the Norwegian Bella edition from first person point of view.
"A vampire showed up, god, he was attractive just like every other vampire. I have no idea what he said. I think he might have said something about shoes. Oh, wait, no, Volturi. That was definitely Volturi. He said something about the Volturi.
I better say something, so they don't think I'm an idiot.
'Takes one to know one' I said with confidence.
Swish."
I lied, I kind of want this. It'd be a terrible book, but god, it'd be so funny.

What does your Muse’s Name Mean?
Tumblr media
Gender:Feminine
Usage:German, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Dutch, English
Elise short form of Elizabeth.
Meaning & History
From Ἐλισάβετ (Elisabet), the Greek form of the Hebrew name אֱלִישֶׁבַע ('Elisheva') meaning "my God is an oath", derived from the roots אֵל ('el) referring to the Hebrew God and שָׁבַע (shava') meaning "oath". The Hebrew form appears in the Old Testament where Elisheba is the wife of Aaron, while the Greek form appears in the New Testament where Elizabeth is the mother of John the Baptist.Among Christians, this name was originally more common in Eastern Europe. It was borne in the 12th century by Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, a daughter of King Andrew II who used her wealth to help the poor. In medieval England it was occasionally used in honour of the saint, though the form Isabel (from Occitan and Spanish) was more common. It has been very popular in England since the reign of Queen Elizabeth I in the 16th century. In American name statistics (as recorded since 1880) it has never ranked lower than 30, making it the most consistently popular name for girls in the United States.Besides Elizabeth I, this name has been borne (in various spellings) by many other European royals, including a ruling empress of Russia in the 18th century. Famous modern bearers include the British queen Elizabeth II (1926-) and actress Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011).
Belladonna (a.k.a Elise's real name)
Usage: Literature, Medieval Italian
Meaning & History
From Italian bella "beautiful, fair" and donna "lady". This is the name of an extremely poisonous plant (Atropa belladonna; also bears the popular name of deadly nightshade). The author J. R. R. Tolkien used it as a hobbit name in 'The Lord of the Rings' (1954), where it belongs to the mother of Bilbo Baggins.
