I saw this wild post on Reddit that was like a goddamn existential howitzer aimed directly at my synapses. It was on one of those nauseating "relationship" subreddits, the kind of place where people unrepentantly showcase the most hopelessly dysfunctional parts of their personal lives. If you find yourself needing to crowdsource advice about your romance from anonymous strangers, it's basically the modern equivalent of putting out a Hitchcockian NORTHBYNORTHWEST sign, admitting you've been utterly derailed by life's metaphorical crop-dusters.

So there's this woman who recently had a kid with her partner. No big deal - millions of people engage in unspeakable biological processes every year. But get this - she's been making these weekend pilgrimages back to her parents place, taking the infant with her so nan and grandpa can babysit while she catches her breath. Seems reasonable enough. Meanwhile, her male companion stays back at their place, presumably working remotely from his dull office job or whatever - I'm already bored thinking about the particulars of his occupation.

Here's where it gets unhinged: The woman returns home after one of these family visits, and there on the bed, as conspicuous as a toupee at a hurricane party, is a pair of small white ankle socks. They clearly aren't hers, because she (self-admittedly) favors a more demure hosiery presentation. And they can't belong to her mom, since that wonderful woman is committed to the knee-high lifestyle. So whose miniature footprints on the moon are these?

Her partner, this presumptive paragon of fidelity and trust, starts insisting the socks must be hers or her mom's, like he's doing some kind of improv scene about gaslighting. But wait - there's more! Suspicious hickies have appeared on his skin, which raises all kinds of bizarre intimacy questions I don't want to contemplate too deeply. How exactly does one get a supernatural suction wound without at least some voluntary interaction with a partner's facehole? These are not the kinds of things I want swirling eternally in my mind grapes.

The Reddit peanut gallery quickly diagnosed the situation: There must be a side-piece leaving suggestive sock clues, like some kind of lawless laundry bandit taunting the wife. That's a power move I can respect, despite the ethical murkiness. I mean, my own grandmother casually carried on affairs during her marriage, but she never exhibited that level of pure menace. It's almost...genius?

Which got me thinking - there's an even more genius move to prevent getting bamboozled by rogue sock appearances. You know what you do? You exclusively own nothing but the most aggressively novelty socks imaginable. Like socks festooned with avocado prints or sloths or whatever completely insane hosiery patterns strike your fancy. Then if you ever stumble upon any plain white footwear in your domain, you'll know it's unquestionable proof of infidelity. There's no denying a foreign avocado sock's true allegiance. Gaslight extinguished. That dude's ass would be grass.

“My Top 10 Favorite Films Of All Time — In No Particular Order”

These are the films that (to me) dreams are made of. Sure there are plenty of other films I could have included. Films that make me cry. Films that make me laugh. Films that challenge my way of thinking. These are the ones that shaped me, and that as I continue to revisit, always excite, intrigue, and touch me emotionally. While some are fun b-movies, and others, more distinguished—I would say these are some of the most important films ever made. Are they the BEST films?… Watch them. They may change your perception. I suppose what I love the most about every one of these picks, I’ve come to realize, is that they are never what they seem to be on the outside—and there is always an exciting turn in the story, and with it, a turn in your emotions. There is always more stirring, right below the surface.
