Myself and my sign, made in support of Minnesota Environmental Justice Table’s mission to #ShutDownTheHERC and #StopTheBurner! The so-called Hennepin Energy Recovery Center is the #1 point-source producer of toxic air emissions in Minneapolis, and the producer of 51.89% of all dioxins in Minnesota. These emissions have been detrimental to the health of North Minneapolis residents, who are predominantly BIPOC and/or low-income, for decades. As a result, this community suffers from the highest asthma rate in MN. Lung and heart health has been heavily on my mind since getting long covid. I’m not from North Minneapolis, but I stand in solidarity with their community. We all deserve clean air. It’s a basic human right, and we have the power to make it happen. I saw Patrick at my gym wearing this shirt & I knew I immediately wanted it. Always some kind of special joy when I feminize/reclaim men’s clothing for my own self because clothing has no gender & is just a capitalist hellscape.

really truly Feelings about coming back to my hometown and seeing it as an outsider (I only knew it as a child with my motion constrained by school and parents and being under 18) and an outsider (it's changed since I've been away these last 8 years) and an outsider (showing it to my partner and finding it both familiar and unfamiliar, and special and inadequate) and an outsider (my parents and sister have all moved and my childhood home is no longer mine - staying in a building with a door code to learn and furniture still being moved in) and an outsider (my favorite places have changed, moved, closed, repainted) and an outsider (new murals! new buildings! new bike lanes) and an outsider (how the Fuck do the bike lanes on the east bank connect) and an outsider (it's changed [you can never step in the same river twice] and I have too)
#i think I need to make art about this#wanting to show off the things I love about it and realizing so much of that love is for the mundane details and tiny quotidian things#seeing people in the bike lanes and feeling the pang of just Being Around People Enjoying the Outdoors#how much fun you can have for free#at the same time not having lived here at all as an adult#i don't know the public transit here! i biked when it wasn't snowy and when it was snowy i was in school til like 9 pm#i don't know the flashy fun city things i know where me and my cousins would go to have a pretzel and maybe a beer and play board games#i know where u can do martial arts for cheap and fun but that's not a nice day out to show someone it's part of being there for months#years#i know where you can get food at 1 AM but they've moved#i don't know dinkytown or any of the north side#i want to show you how good it was to be a kid here in the summer but we're not kids anymore#i want you to feel the same pang of love when passing my best friend's childhood home#ALSO!!!! saw california friends/acquaintances in the home they bought together with dual software engineer california salaries#living in MN making CA money#a huge huge 3-story-plus-basement million-plus dollar home since that means something here#you're 28 what the fuck are you doing with a nicer house than anyone I knew here ever had#'this is what you get with CA money in mpls' yeah i fucking know actually except I don't make SWE money and I don't live here anymore#i know some local mechanical engineers who have got starter homes at like 300k a few years out of school.#that's like. good for them.#anyway I'm leaving the city today and still just feeling Things about it

SSO - Fort Maria paintings
This library contains a lot of rather interesting paintings, most of them sadly only related to the druids, but for a part of them, few details are a bit intriguing:
The "roman" temple
Tumblr media
Why would we find roman ruins in an island which is on the north of the Baltic Sea ? I guess most people don't think about it but it was my main reaction when I saw it in Epona. Now... That painting could give the start of an explanation: if you look at the ambiance and the light, you'll see it's not in earth anymore, it's in the in-between worlds path. And it's a portal. Maybe a portal to travel on either another world ( roman themed one ?) or on another country, like the Roman empire.
2. The harbour
Tumblr media
This one looks rather normal, you can think about Cape West or Fort Pinta... Which one by the way ? There's not the colors of Golden, nor the statue of Fort Pinta, and certainly not the fortifications of the last one, and we know that it was fortified since the start, and the boats are more modern, something you can find in the 50s/60s. So where could it be ? Well, it still can be Cape West if we consider that the permanant autumn weather is related to the witches, but it can also be another sea side city in Jorvik, something on the closed part of the map.
3. The castle
Tumblr media
One of the most interesting ones, if not the most. Keep in mind that I don't change the orientation of the screenshot, it's the right side. It looks like Silverglade castle, but... There's like a lake and mountains, full of snow, behind it. But the painting represents spring, there's a blossoming tree here. So... Where it is ? Could it be the lands eras before ?
4. In the sky
Tumblr media
It's clearly not an unknown place. Do you remember the cloud event with Mica ? That strange castle silhouette you can see in the clouds ? Well, you have it with more details. We can see something like a plaza and stairs to a higher place, some columns and some trees made of clouds. There's also several winged horses ( why not pegasi ? Because Pegasus is a name, not a specie. Winged horse is a way better term) and one single human girl, probably Aideen or one of her incarnations. I though that it could be a cloud civilization BUT the magic side of the Wildwoods made me think about MPL and I think it's one of their main inspiration, so why not wild winged speaking horses ? It's dumb and childish, right in their current line.
The only question would be: why stairs when they can fly ? Eh... That one is a real mystery.
5. Mystical valley
Tumblr media
You will say "Oh but it's a wild forest like in the Wildwoods, it's here ?" Well, since when there's palm trees in Wildwoods ? When you look more at it, the whole light make it feel warmer than the Jorwegian islands, something almost tropical. And... Is it a dinosaur like creature in the water ? Could it be what was the valley of the dinosaur before ? No, there's a south american pyramid on the right side, and a giant head. Plus, you can see some openings in the cliff, like if they were living in it, despite the small waterfalls. But you still can see a horse like creature and the soul riders runes... Very weird mix, making me think that Jorvik and its present location could just be our world's version. If you heard about the String theory, it's based on it. I have a very hard time to conceive Jorvik having both roman and pre-columbian ruins at the same time while being located near Iceland. You'll excuse me people, but having several dimensions looks more logical at that point.
6. The storm
Tumblr media
I can't say if it's earth or not, but these rocks are really unique and threatening at the same time. Kinda looks like petrified waves, no?
7. Druidic stone
Tumblr media
Another strange forest painting... This one has horses and a druidic stone on it, so I assume it's Jorvik. Once again, it gives a more warm feeling, it doesn't look like it's in the north of Europe at all. There's something prehistorical, I can explain why.
8. Ruins
Tumblr media
That one intrigues me like A LOT ! These ruins looks like medieval ones, something from the early medieval era. But why are they that destroyed ? The whole place is unknown to me, I can't figure where it is, and what is the era of the painting.

so i didn’t realize there were river otters and i definitely did not realize i lived part time in an area where i might see wild otters
so i was VERY CONFUSED when i saw some roadkill on the way from mpls to mke that looked like an otter. i was like. wtf is an otter doing by the side of the road. and mom was like “doing a bad job crossing it?”
idk why i didn’t think about otters existing in freshwater environments, i knew this was the part of north america where beaver hunting was a big thing, that implies other water dwellers as part of an ecosystem, i just. have never seen an otter outside of a zoo
to be fair to me i’m PRETTY SURE there are no wild otters in phoenix arizona

If you’re looking for a place to donate to with the news about Roe v Wade, might I suggest the Red River Women’s Clinic in Fargo? They are a clinic in a trigger state (North Dakota), and they serve many people in the Dakotas and Minnesota. Their location is essential as many people do not have the resources or ability to drive all the way to Mpls/St. Paul in Minnesota. Because abortion will soon be illegal in North Dakota, they are gathering funds to open a new location across the river in Moorhead, MN. The link to donate is here.

030323 (MPL)
Time: 10:42 PM
Hello Dear!
Writing this down in the middle of my shift actually! 🤪 I forgot to note everything that happened during weekend because of the pagod na rin siguro.
MPL Live 🥳 This is my first time watching the MPL-tournament Live. The experience was awesome except the travel (obviously North to South ang atake ko) Good thing, God helped me on my way home and kay kuyang angkas driver na super bait grabe as in. May ganun pa palang tao? Huhuhu hinatid nya kasi ako sa ibang mas mabilis na sakayan going north. It was far from the pinned location na binook ko. I booked somewhere in Pasay para sana mag UV na lang pauwi pero he insisted na sa Makati na lang and take MRT instead.
Tumblr media
I was so happy kasi yung ticket ko is for SILVER lang but for some extra-ordinary reason, VIOLA instant VIP!!! (pero kasi pala si coach Trebor of ECHO is my kababata/kapitbahay in Valenzuela hehehe extra ordinary ka dyan lol) ECHO vs TNC pala winatch ko.
Super nice, quick lang and organize yung event. Sad ng very light because:
Players are unreachable after the series. We couldn't get a chance to have photo op with them or to just say "hi!" super strict! But I understand, sad lang.
Super dilim pala ng studio. Hahahahahah hindi din ako makalapit sa ibang casters and analysts madilim eh.
But everything is okay. Kasi overall nag enjoy naman ako at nakita ko sila in person. :)))) I even had small talk with Midnight! Super gwapo in person!!!! Chantelle? Madilim nung nilapitan ko sya but she's so bango. Hehehe si Butters, naka big bike (Yeah!) Si Manjean MIA haahahahah
Ang daming pogi sa TNC guys! 🤭 Sa ECHO, same lang sila sa screen and sa personal except Bennyqt! He's tall pala in person? Nakakamay ko silang 5. Yey!
Super tiring but grateful! Yun lang..
Love,
Bel

Life after the layoff: DAY 33
Tumblr media
The old commute felt different today. Met a friend for lunch; we met at a place I suggested in the North Loop neighborhood in Minneapolis. It's right around where we used to work together when I started my first downtown job in 2001. For about 9 years, I rode the bus downtown. I'd pass the time by listening to music, reading a book, or taking a nap (after my daughter was born – I needed the sleep!) I'd step off of the bus as soon as we reached the downtown area, as I'm a lifelong member of the motion sickness club. I found a number of routes to the office, mostly through the mythical MPLS skyway system. As I walked through the skyway each morning, I passed by hundreds of others doing the same. We worked at different places, but used this hamster tunnel just the same. Over lunch, we would hop in to find a lunch spot or just to walk. Wonder how many hundreds of miles I walked in those years. My next job was outside of the downtown area. No skyway. I missed the climate-controlled walks in the winter and on rainy days. There was something cozy about seeing snow or rain from behind the glass. The next two jobs I had were back in the skyway. I wasn't taking the bus, but still parked on the other side of downtown, so I got my steps in. It used to be a point of pride to walk friends anywhere in the system from memory. "You need to get to the Haskell's on 9th? No problem." I worked mostly from home in the year before the pandemic struck. I missed the skyway, but would always go out in it when I was in the office. Soon, we were all working from home. My last job was 100% remote; I never went to a proper office. It worked nicely, gaining the quiet I crave for the small price of in-person interaction. I'm used to the camera, by now. I have a fun office backdrop. But there I was, today, without a job in the area where I spent the last 15 years or so, gainfully employed, elbow-to-elbow with other workers. I rented a scooter for about 15 minutes before lunch. I fell in love with them on a trip to Berlin last April. They were a new-ish thing in pre-pandemic MPLS. I've met friends downtown since the layoff, and the vibes of the place are different. The restaurants we frequented now sit empty. The Marshall Field's store that stocked my closet with fashion finds is no longer there. The regular noon-hour bustle is now as quiet as a bank holiday mid-afternoon. As I look for my next role, the office situation is top-of-mind. On-site? Hybrid? Remote? What would it be like to return to full weeks in an office after having my desk ten paces from my bed for nearly 4 years? Will I office out of my home until I retire? Will it start one way and shift to another? NOT SURE. Yeah, the vibes downtown are different. But, maybe we're all a little different, now, too.

Meet the Contestants: Mars Polar Lander
Tumblr media
Artist's concept of MPL at the martian south pole [NASA/Lockheed Martin Astronautics]
The Mars Polar Lander was intended to land near the martian south polar cap. It also carried two probes called Deep Space 2 which would impact and penetrate the martian surface to study the subsurface. The lander and probes were released December 1999, but contact was lost with them during descent.
MPL was intended to study Mars’ current and past climate and search for subsurface water-ice. It included many meteorological instruments, and a robotic arm  with a scoop that could dig in the Martian soil to look for ice. Much of its instrumentation and structure were reused for the later Phoenix mission to Mars’ north.
Read more about the Mars Polar Lander on the archived mission site.
Tune in for round 1 of the Mars Mission Tournament when MPL goes up against another failed Mars lander.

Virtual Private Network (VPN) Market Is Predicted to Grow At More Than 20% CAGR From 2023 To 2032
As per a recent research report, Global Virtual Private Network (VPN) Market share is likely to surpass USD 350 billion valuation by 2032.
The global virtual private network (VPN) market is anticipated to register considerable gains through 2032, primarily driven by the widespread adoption of internet services for business connectivity across the globe.
Rising level of connectivity and internet penetration is making consumer data more vulnerable to malicious access and has led to an increase in the instances of cyberattack. Subsequently, several global organizations, on their digital migration journey, are adopting cybersecurity measures to ensure the safety of their data and business assets.
Request for Sample Copy report @ https://www.gminsights.com/request-sample/detail/2756
In this regard, encrypted connectivity has become the leading tool enterprises use to ensure information security, which is shaping the VPN market outlook.
The overall virtual private network market landscape is bifurcated into different segments such as component, type, connectivity, application, and regional outlook.
Based on component, the market is segmented into hardware, services, and software. Amongst them, the services segment is slated to experience strong growth driven by the remote working trend. Despite COVID-19 approaching its end through successful vaccination drives, many organizations have opted to work on a completely remote or hybrid working model. This has created a need for them to provide remote connectivity to employees and manage enterprise network infrastructure through VPN services.
Based on type, the industry is segmented into IP VPN, cloud VPN, MPLS VPN, and mobile VPN. The MPLS segment held an industry share of over 40% in 2022, owing to the dwindling growth of frame relay market. Organizations increasingly prefer multiprotocol label switching VPN (MPLS-VPN) services as they help them prioritize real-time apps such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), and video conferencing, among others, with a better quality of service (QoS).
Based on connectivity, the industry is segmented into site-to-site, remote access, and extranet. The remote access VPN segment is slated to register strong gains driven by its wide-scale adoption across global enterprises. The remote working trend has created an acute need among organizations to extend their corporate network, which is further propagating segment expansion.
Request for customization this report @ https://www.gminsights.com/roc/2756
Based on application, the market is categorized into commercial, consumer, and service providers. The commercial segment is further bifurcated into BFSI, healthcare, IT, manufacturing, and government. Among these, the manufacturing segment is poised to grow at 20% CAGR by 2032, driven by the rising demand for machine-to-machine communication in a growingly automated factory setting. VPN solutions ensure smooth and secure communication between multiple IP-enabled devices remotely over the internet as if the devices are connected to one network.
Regionally, the market is segmented into North America, the Middle East and Africa, Latin America, Europe, and Asia Pacific. The North America virtual private network market registered over USD 14 million in 2022, fueled by increasing cybercrime across numerous industry verticals. As per the 2021 Annual Data Breach Report by Identity Theft Resource Center® (ITRC), in 2021, data breaches increased more than 68% compared to the year prior.

2023 Pilots - What Does 2023 Look Like For Pilots?
Tumblr media
Firstly, I want to start this blog post by wishing you a very happy New Year. I hope 2023 is your year and, whatever your goals are, that you achieve them.
I can't believe that over 10,000 of you a month are now reading these blog posts and visiting this website. I do genuinely hope it's proving useful to you.
Just a reminder that if you are interested in flight training, I have written a very thorough and extensive guide that will provide you with all the information you could ever need, all in one place.
2023 For The Aviation Industry
I genuinely think 2023 will be a great time to become an airline pilot, or even if you are already flying commercially, many opportunities are coming our way.
Especially after such a terrible 2020/2021 in the aviation industry.
Is There A Pilot Shortage?
Yes, there is an insane pilot shortage.
We've already discussed this shortage in detail in a blog post where we discussed how Delta Airlines pilots are seeing a 34% pay rise because the pilot shortage is so dire in America!
The supply is far less than demand, which is excellent for anyone looking to start their pilot training or pursue their commercial pilot license at any flight school.
Our Readers Favourite Blog Posts:
Why Are Pilots Tested On Their Maths?
How Much Does It Cost To Become A Pilot?
How Long Does It Take To Become A Commercial Pilot 2023
How Hard Is It To Become A Pilot?
Why Is There A Pilot Shortage?
This pilot shortage is expected to get even worse in the future.
Reporters from Oliver Wyman Analysis said the following:
This shortage is far worse in America due to the"1,500 Hour Rule", which increased the minimum flight time required to become a commercial airline pilot from 250 to 1,500 hours.
Whereas aviators in the UK/Europe still only require these 250 hours of flight experience (as well as the instrument rating, single-engine and multi-engine ratings etc.).
With the growth of air traffic, the demand for pilots has increased, yet the number of newly qualified cadets entering the profession has not kept pace.
Factors such as stricter regulations, more extended training requirements, and an ageing workforce population contribute to the shortage.
See this form in the original post
We must also remember that in the UK, the retirement age for professional flyers has recently increased from 55 to 65 years old.
This means we may now see a record number of captains and first officers retiring over the next 2-5 years, creating an even more significant shortage, especially in the UK and Europe.
So Are Airlines Recruiting?
YES.
For the first time since COVID, many airlines are beginning their recruitment process. Indeed, my airline plans on recruiting the maximum number of recruits they can train this year.
Many will move from airline to airline this year for various reasons, such as better pilot salary/pay, better terms and conditions, or a better pilot's lifestyle.
Are Any Airlines Paying For Flight Training?
YES!
I'm delighted to see a large international airline open up its sponsored training scheme.
TUI has opened up its pilot cadet program, which means cadets over 18 years old will now have the opportunity to embark on their MPL program!
Tumblr media
Are Airline Pilot Salaries On The Rise?
Salaries are increasing at record levels in America.
As mentioned above, Delta Airlines have just seen an astronomical pay rise of over 34% over the next three years.
Pilots in the UK and Europe aren't seeing these same explosive increases in their salaries, and most airlines offer pay raises following inflation.
However, I see this pilot shortage going from just an issue in North America to worldwide, and I believe that all airline salaries will need to increase soon for airlines to retain their pilots.
Especially if America opens their Green Card applications and begins allowing pilots from the UK and Europe to fly there, this would mean those airlines in the UK and Europe could see a considerable number of their workforce exit to go and fly commercially in the USA.
How Much Do Commercial Pilots Make?
Other Things To Consider In 2023
The days of COVID lockdowns, mass redundancies and empty airports now seem like a distant memory.
No one knows what the future may hold, but the airline industry continues to recover every day we move away from the pandemic.
We must remember at the moment that the world faces a potential global recession, and things do change.
However, the forecast for the airline industry's recovery continues to look promising, and growth in the aviation industry and predicted airline profits are all set to increase with time.
