yor has been just slightly more affectionate towards loid recently, and he decides he needs to reciprocate because he is in love with her because in order for operation strix to continue smoothly, he needs to maintain a cordial relationship with her. he decides the best course of action would be to casually compliment her. the task may sound simple enough, but it's actually an incredibly difficult balance to pull off; he'd have to come off as friendly while also avoiding flustering her and earning another (well-deserved) kick in the jaw. after hours of meticulous planning, he eventually chooses a laid-back sunday morning to execute this operation.

he's standing in the kitchen, stirring together a batch of pancake batter when his wife walks in to wish him good morning. he smiles before looking up from his mixing bowl, only to be greeted by the most beautiful sight he'd ever laid eyes on. she was gorgeous; still wearing her loose-fitting pajamas with her long, silky hair let down. it was now or never; twilight must compliment his wife in the most normal way possible.

act natural, twilight. just tell her she looks nice today. that's all you have to do.

he stares at her for a moment, suddenly feeling very awkward.

he opens his mouth to say something, but all that comes out is

yor gives him a confused look, but once she registers that he was referring to her, she breaks into a smile.

"well thank you!" she replies through a chuckle.

she puts a friendly hand on his shoulder for a moment before going to sit at the breakfast table.

i guess... that worked???

he ignores the tightness in his chest and the warmth rising to his face.
