i think i mentioned this before but i actually love the idea of esther gradually finding out david is in love with jack. like it's just little hints but when it gets through to her it makes so much sense. for example one day she asked sarah "how's jack?" or "is jack coming over for dinner tonight?" and sarah just kind of scrunched her eyebrows and went "how should i know? ask david" and esther was confused because she was so sure that jack was courting sarah. and then one day she paid attention to how close jack and david were at the dinner table, even if there was no real reason for it, and how they exchanged glances and giggled from time to time, and they've always sat like this, always acted like this, so why didn't she ever pay attention to it? or in the mornings, before david went to school, she always heard some rustling--a window opening, some hushed voices, eventually a quiet laugh--and one day she just got curious, she took a peek inside david's room, and she saw jack leaning in through the open window. and her son went red in the face (for some reason?) but jack just smiled and said good morning like the polite boy he was, and esther realized that jack went out of his way to wake up early just to see david before he went to school. and one day when she went to the rooftop to hang the laundry she noticed something scribbled on the brick half-wall with charcoal messily--the initials 'j' and 'd' with a plus between them--and she didn't have to think long before she realized it stood for jack and david. and that's really when she started taking the possibility of david and jack being queer into consideration. she wasn't even shocked, she just didn't know how she didn't realize earlier. and i think from that point on she just made sure to make jack feel even more welcome
A semi-important change to Davey’s character, I think I’d like to make Davey originally from Brooklyn. Davey’s reluctance to toughening up and fighting causes Spot to send him to Manhattan. What do we think? Are we Brooklyn Davey?? He doesn’t obviously stay Brooklyn but I feel like it’d be fun to have him have the “dawg” in him for real 😨😨😨!!
IMPORTANT QUESTIONS FOR THE NEWSIE FANS OUT THERE PLEASE ANSWER IN COMMENTS OR REBLOGS
what is david jacobs’ special interest?
I’m writing a fic right now in which David is autistic and i’m trying to figure out what his special interest would be. (one of mine is forensic science but i don’t think that would fit him)
I’m thinking personally classic literature and authors or something like photography or a form of science.
but actually do people have ideas about this?
I’ll credit whoever’s idea i use in my fic. my ao3 is @pinetree603 and the fic is called “why are you so annoying” it’s currently 2/? chapters but chapter 3 is written and i’m working on chapter 4 right now.
"Davey’s parents are struggling with money so he and his brother sell papers to help support the family. At first he is timid around the other newsies, but eventually comes out of his shell and finds a place of belonging among them."
Things that live rent free in my head newsies edition:
Spot collion with gal pals (especially Sarah because I read a fic where they had a short time book club but it was pretty much them just complain about a book together for a day)
Musical jacks out if is first act movie David's outfit
I think about Sarah punching Morris at least three times a day
The fact that Jack Kelly's real name is Francis Sullivan
I think everyone should of had one good swing at Jack after he scabed
Just movie David, I love that we get to see more of his character
I love the song high times, hard times
"The world is your eyster"
"I've got 𝓹𝓮𝓻𝓼𝓸𝓷𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓽𝔂"
"I object" "on what grownds?" "on the grounds of Brooklyn your honor"
(I will most definitely be adding more or making more newsies thought posts)
this might just be a me thing, but I’m such a fan of characters not referring to themselves with their nickname. like. they’re doing a whole inner monologue, and it’s sad, and depressing, and generally pathetic, but then their best friend calls them their nickname and it’s like. oh. yeah :)
because they may suck in their own heads. they could very well be the worst person alive in their own little brains. but when someone they care about calls them that one thing with that one tone of voice, suddenly they suck a little less. suddenly they’re less of a screw up. suddenly the serotonin hits their system and it’s like watching a light come on.
they might not be good enough, but the person everyone thinks they are is, and secretly, that makes them feel just a little bit better.
