I am sure it has been shared a lot already, but I really like this extract of live performance form TAD. Except one thing : the ending ! How frustrating is that ?!!! 🤣
It will never happen but I wish I could see them live 💙
I'm at work right now, practicing calligraphy for a project (I'm actually a receptionist but I'm in charge of making place markers for our upcoming holiday party) and I figured, what better way to practice phrases than to write out TAD lyrics?
So far, I have New York Torch Song, The Horror and The Wild, and That Unwanted Animal!
I know the "fuck you, they said" at the beginning of New York Torch Song means they as in the plural, the guy and the girl saying it together, but I choose to see it as non-binary representation.
Today I'm thinking about the story that spans New York Torch Song and Secret Worlds. The way that "you asked me for a lighter mate, I gave you my fire" is the memory of "light me a New York torch, my boys". NYTS is about being young and wild and free, and Secret Worlds is about growing up, despite your best efforts. New York is modern and built-up, concrete and tarmac, full of love and energy. The appeal to young people is undeniable, but in Secret Worlds they wish they hadn't ignored the trees' advice. They're old and boring, and maybe they can't remember what it was like to be young but as you grow up, you see what you were missing by neglecting them. NYTS lives in the moment, and Secret Worlds wishes more than anything it could have stayed there.
