I drew myself in some Nepali dresses! I absolutely adore Nepali fashion and it gave me a lot of nostalgia thinking back to parties me and my family would go to. This was mostly done for practice with humanoids but it also gave me a tooooon of gender euphoria.
I'd love so much to wear a dress like these to a party someday

In the current epidemic of rich Western women who cannot “choose” to eat, we see the continuation of an older, poorer tradition of women’s relation to food. Modern Western female dieting descends from a long history. Women have always had to eat differently from men: less and worse. In Hellenistic Rome, reports classicist Sarah B. Pomeroy, boys were rationed sixteen measures of meal to twelve measures allotted to girls. In medieval France, according to historian John Boswell, women received two thirds of the grain allocated to men. Throughout history, when there is only so much to eat, women get little, or none: A common explanation among anthropologists for female infanticide is that food shortage provokes it. According to UN publications, where hunger goes, women meet it first: In Bangladesh and Botswana, female infants die more frequently than male, and girls are more often malnourished, because they are given smaller portions. In Turkey, India, Pakistan, North Africa, and the Middle East, men get the lion’s share of what food there is, regardless of women’s caloric needs. “It is not the caloric value of work which is represented in the patterns of food consumption” of men in relation to women in North Africa, “nor is it a question of physiological needs…. Rather these patterns tend to guarantee priority rights to the ‘important’ members of society, that is, adult men.” In Morocco, if women are guests, “they will swear they have eaten already” or that they are not hungry. “Small girls soon learn to offer their share to visitors, to refuse meat and deny hunger.” A North African woman described by anthropologist Vanessa Mahler assured her fellow diners that “she preferred bones to meat.” Men, however, Mahler reports, “are supposed to be exempt from facing scarcity which is shared out among women and children.”
“Third World countries provide examples of undernourished female and well-nourished male children, where what food there is goes to the boys of the family,” a UN report testifies. Two thirds of women in Asia, half of all women in Africa, and a sixth of Latin American women are anemic—through lack of food. Fifty percent more Nepali women than men go blind from lack of food. Cross-culturally, men receive hot meals, more protein, and the first helpings of a dish, while women eat the cooling leftovers, often having to use deceit and cunning to get enough to eat. “Moreover, what food they do receive is consistently less nutritious.”
This pattern is not restricted to the Third World: Most Western women alive today can recall versions of it at their mothers’ or grandmothers’ table: British miners’ wives eating the grease-soaked bread left over after their husbands had eaten the meat; Italian and Jewish wives taking the part of the bird no one else would want.
These patterns of behavior are standard in the affluent West today, perpetuated by the culture of female caloric self-deprivation. A generation ago, the justification for this traditional apportioning shifted: Women still went without, ate leftovers, hoarded food, used deceit to get it—but blamed themselves. Our mothers still exiled themselves from the family circle that was eating cake with silver cutlery off Wedgwood china, and we would come upon them in the kitchen, furtively devouring the remains. The traditional pattern was cloaked in modern shame, but otherwise changed little. Weight control became its rationale once natural inferiority went out of fashion.

Hello Kleo Good Morning!!! 🌞🌞🌞
I miss you I miss talking to youu and I've been wondering what's your fashion style? I can take a guess and it's something along the lines of long sleeve shirts, formal style (cause you're a professional girlie) and sweatpants when you're at home cause you're practical like that. I might be wrong but this is how I pictured you 🫶🏻
Oh hello!
Tumblr media
I miss you, too! You can always hit me in inbox and DMs. I'm usually pretty chatty. 😂
You got it nearly right. My fashion style changed a lot when covid came. Now I don't give even the f****s I used to give. 🤣
I mostly wear clothes that allow me to both move and relax comfortably. Which in my case means leggings paired with dress. But don't think a fancy dress. It usually looks more like long t-shirt, or long hoodie, or long sweater. My favourite ones are with pockets. I swear I have like 10 such tops from Lidl (supermarket) so I'm really not focused on brands. 😂 My leggings are usually bright coloured or with patterns while the top dress is more subtle.
I wear a more fancy version to the office, too.
The top dress is usually along this lines:
Tumblr media
I have exactly this dress and I love it, because it's got pockets. I love pockets on dresses and skirts! 😍 It's from Czech based online shop that is supplied by small manufacturers in Nepal and their work is ethical and they help local Nepali families and organizations (animal rescue ones, too). I love the bright coloured mandala patterns on black and I usually combine these with black leggings.
My sister makes fun of me for wearing leggings into bank office but my leggings are so nice that I got compliments on them from coworkers. 😂 Same applies to these dresses from Nepal. They are pretty loved by my coworkers.
So yeah! My home wear is very no-brand and my office wear is fair-trade. That's it. I rarely wear anything else these days. It's been ages I wore denim trousers and I used to wear it all the time until covid. 😂 I don't usually reveal much skin, not because of some morals or rules but more because I feel more comfortable being hugged by my clothes rather than by people 😂
So yeah! This is my fashion style. Nothing super extra, I don't really attrack attention on the streets but I don't need to impress anyone at this age. 😉
It was lovely to talk to you! 💖
Kleo 🦄

A LATE WORD ON THE LATE, GREAT ANTHONY BOURDAIN
I’ve been devouring episodes of Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown. It’s an occupation that feels like the most indulgent of luxuries. The show’s production is familiar in its structure. A presenter swings from foodie host to foodie host, as if we’re watching a fantasy genre film of Bourdain the adventurer exploring foreign lands with different companions, each with their own wisdom to impart. The surprise for me, and common knowledge to the rest of the world, is how cinematic the show is. A great deal of each episode is shots of the location with the sounds you’d hear walking through it. Care has been put into the sensory pleasure of travelling. The barking dogs in the streets of Thimphu. The clinking glasses outside a cafe in Marseilles. The hissing flames touching chicken feet in Kuala Lumpur. For a weakly travelled house lily like me, this is the closest I’m likely to get to these marvellous places any time soon.
Of course, as a British-Nepali, I latched onto the local explorations. The Scottish episode of Parts Unknown begins in a Glaswegian pub. Bourdain is sitting at the bar, enjoying the cloudy light of Scotland. His ashy greying hair stands in contrast to his brown wool coat and brown wool scarf. The barmaid asks him whether he’s on holiday (or vacation as Americans say). He says he sort of is, half because he’s on the job filming his show, half because he has great respect for Glasgow and takes great pleasure in being there. The following scene, he is walking through the busy streets of Glasgow, shrinking into himself from the bitter cold of a Scottish city in Autumn. In classic documentary fashion, his voiceover illuminates us on his thoughts. Though in the cloudy daylight Glasgow looks sleepy, it is one of the biggest hubs of Leave voters for the Scottish referendum. Bourdain explains that Glasgow is a city divided, both in opinion and in economic class. This is where the show shines the brightest, ladling every place he visits with the respect and seriousness it deserves.
Bourdain himself wears many hats. In Parts Unknown, he’s a food poet, an occasional mountain climbing roadster, a political investigator, and a travelling philosopher. I have always heard his praises but it’s a wounding regret to have not come across him, his works, and his life before his passing. Though the chances of meeting him when he was alive would have been infinitely smaller than minuscule, watching the show had me grieving for the fantasy I could have held. One where we would have dinner together. He’s already filmed an episode on British food, an excellent summary with enough scope to cover the hearty food of the country as well as the devastation of Brexit. He’s tasted the most refined cuisine and the greasiest so I can’t hope to introduce anything to his palette except maybe a Shin Ramyun sandwich (a carb loaded delicacy of my childhood). Instead, I would have liked to get him to pick a spot in London that he likes. We’d sit down with the warmth and aromas of the food and chatted about his life and his thoughts on the world, on food, and politics - beyond what he’s explored in his show, and he has explored a lot in his show.

Raksi Kind of Day
Tumblr media
At home, I am constantly in motion and looking for the next thing to do. Here, I’m slowly learning to ease my pace and find contentment in being still. Everyone is busy and there are things to do be done but, there isn’t a sense of urgency. For example, Sunil, Kabita, and I went on another hike yesterday. And yes, once again, it was uphill. It took us about an hour and a half to reach the top of the foothill where a Hindu temple rests.
The views were spectacular and it was interesting to see different aspects of the temple and their meaning. I spent the next several minutes walking around and taking in the views. Then, I noticed Sunil and Kabita were just sitting there relaxed and enjoying the moment. I followed suit and allowed myself to be content in the moment. I didn’t need to explore every inch of the temple or continue pacing—it was ok to sit and enjoy.
A similar sentiment is apparent when chiya is served. It’s a time to relax, catch up, and just enjoy the tea. There is internet at the house and I’m sure they watch shows at times (I haven’t seen a tv), however, it’s been refreshing to sit and chat at night. Our nightcap yesterday was raksi, a homemade sort of Nepalese moonshine. Sunil served up small glasses and we cheered. I was about to take it like a shot before I realized Sunil was sipping on his. In true Nepali fashion his pace was slowed so he could enjoy the moment. Let me just say raski burns and I was unable to finish mine. I did, however, sleep like a rock.

Oof I have a few.👀👀👀
1. Do you have any celebrity crushes atm?
2. Whats your process behind character creation?
3. Are you a pantser or outliner?
4. Do you have a favourite kpop band/soloist?
5. What are you and the ROs music taste like?
6? How would you describe your fashion sense and the ROs?
7. What's a story you would love to see turned into an if?
8. What would be your biggest piece of advice for a beginner writer and what did you wish you knew before you started?
9. If I remember correctly you're working in another story that's a fantasy. Could you perhaps spill some of the tea regarding the characters and premise? I'm super excited 👀
10. How has it been working on these completely different projects?
I try my best not to have any celebrity crushes but I've been so bitchless recently that when I got into Ateez I was immediately floored by San 😭😭 so uh yeah that's the only one rn LMIUSFDHDFI
I usually tend to start the story with plot. Through that, my characters blossom; I usually look for a personality I want to embody, and also a character I haven't seen too often. For example, I haven't really seen any Nepali characters in IF, so I'm making a nepalese RO in Witness in Plain Sight. The ethnicities of my characters are often from the ethnicities of my friends who find they don't have any characters they can relate to in media, so the appearance of my character is the third/second thing I think about.
I outline first, but I pants through it!
Oh boy... my favorite boy groups are seventeen, ateez & BTOB, and my favorite girl groups are twice, stayc and ive!! I'm also getting into CNBLUE right now. My fav soloist is Sunmi.
My music taste is a little bit of anything and everything. I love music in different languages (korean, spanish, french, chinese, japanese, urdu, and hindi, lots of bollywood music in general). I think N would like a lot of vocaloid & hyperpop music, while Oli is more interested in alt music, just a lot of music with guitar. Hannie likes classical music, lofi, just anything they can listen to in the background without too many lyrics. When learning a new language, they like to listen to music in that language, too.
I'm kind of experimenting with mine!! If I had a lil more money, I would love to dress fancy and old-timey. (Like the pic, and a bunch of art on pinterest which I can't find the cred for!) I mostly dress in academia, graphic tees and overalls. You can see the ROs outfit types through their posts here: N OLI HANNIE
Tumblr media
7. HMMM... okay something that I REALLY want to see is the great historian 'they were just friends'. I want two ladies to fall in love in medieval times. I would also LOVE something like melvina's therapy, a bunch of short stories that tie into eachother! 8. Definitely do your research!! Reach out to other authors, and create a network of people you can rely on! Not only will it be great for when you decide to go through with your project, but you'll have a community that can help you, inspire you, and that you can talk to when you have difficulty!! For any writers and developers, you can always come to me!! Whether it's an ask, a private message, a discord dm or an email, you can always count on me if you need some help :-) 9. I don't wanna give away too much, but I'll give away a little! Yk how much I love killing off parents in IFs... this IF is an adaptation of the first novel I ever wrote!! It's about magic weilding pirates, set in the Victorian Times! I know it sounds goofy so I'm gonna leave it right there IUDHFSIUDSF 10. A nightmare. I love all of them, don't get me wrong, but I'm a colossal dumbass. I'm really happy I get to do what I love, tho, and I love being able to write!!! I get to do whatever I imagine, and tbh it's the best feeling ever!!

They are a perfect choice for formal occasions such as weddings and religious ceremonies.
