Overview of my 2.0 Neohome thus far.
@cottoneyecocoa brought up the rather terrifying question of whether or not Neohomes will be supported come the doom of Flash, so I am feeling an urge to back up my efforts by whatever means I can... Which currently looks like the practical but rather inelegant idea of “just screencap it, screencap it all.” I’m starting with my 2.0 (what I think of as the Vacation Home, with my Real House being the Classic) because it’s simpler to do. Classic will likely take up several posts, so if y’all aren’t into that I beg your patience...

god i want to see this but also i am very aware of the reality of petpets, which is that theres thousands of them, theyre 80x80px images on white backgrounds, and the original vector files for most of them are probably lost by now. i think tnt planned to do this way back when they introducted customization and neohomes 2.0 and it never happened, im assuming for those exact reasons

Hmmm neopets realy just left the neohome 2.0 feature to rot huh
Like I get they throw out features and then closes them like clockwork but if their gonna leave it up they could at least fix the broken stuff
There is furniture in there I cant even take out because its so broken

Neohomes 2.0 sucks, if I can’t make separate rooms for my neopets then what is the point?

Rambles about my Neopet story/headcanon(?) below. Also includes a little narrative at the end:
Just random thing: since I was a kid, I’ve had a running story that I’ve wanted to turn into a Neopian Times series since forever. My main problem with it is that it takes place over my entire Neopian career, so my ‘pets would be changing colors practically every chapter, especially CJ, since he’s my lab pet. And the most prominent character in this story.
I could change the scale of the story, but I feel like it needs to be accurate (aside from things that absolutely needed to change, such as the possessed cell phone and male faerie mentions). It’s kinda important that there’s a huge time gap in the middle, too, as that’s when I took a major hiatus and my Neopets gained a bit of maturity.
And snark. A lot of meta snark.
The current plot-like-thing is something that seems like it’ll tie into my overarching story, so I’m making up my ‘pets’ reactions to it. The thing is, they’re just so meta I can’t do anything with it. Like they’re reacting to the video, and they’re all like “why is it a video?” I’m thinking of how they can, in-universe, view it, and that’s Neovision, which is a dead contest. So they’re watching it on their old Neovision, and discussing who has Neovision in this day and age anyway? Well, okay they do. But they also live in an old-style Neohome since I don’t like final decisions and waited until I could be 100% sure I’d like the location of Neohome 2.0 before making one. And then TNT abandoned the concept.
And then just general snark like:
“CJ, CJ! Something has happened!” Spyr flew in, in a panic. Her companions to the Faerie Festival were not with her.
“Did a Blue Shoyru whiz passed your head?” CJ asked, reading the Neopian Times. Spyr rolled her eyes.
“No! The Faerie Festival has been attacked!”
“Again?” CJ asked, not even looking up from the newspaper.
“It’s serious! You have to come and see!”
“Is the pie safe?” CJ asked.
“Pie?”
“Yeah, last time a pie got turned to stone. Is the pie safe?” Spyr grabbed the paper out of CJs flippers.
“Take this seriously. There might be a plot!”
“I doubt it,” he said, attempting to grab at the paper, but she tossed it out of reach. CJ, being a Jetsam at the moment and unable to float, glared at her.
“Why not?” Spyr asked.
“We have not had a plot in literally seven years. We haven’t even had a new event since... when was the Obelisk discovered?”
“Well it’s high time something happened. We need to check it out.”
“Flippers” CJ said.
“What?”
“I can’t walk. I have flippers.”
“Have you just been stalling because you’re too lazy to drag yourself over there?” she asked.
“Yes,” CJ said without skipping a beat. Spyr sighed, and landed next to him.
“Hop on then,” she said, “You should at least be able to drag yourself that far.”
“I still doubt it’s anything big,” he said, but pulled himself onto her back, anyway.
So yeah. It’s funny, but I don’t think it’s NT material. And this is sanitizing the stuff related to the overarching story out. I guess all that’s left without that is meta snark (but there’s plenty of snark there, too).

Adventures in teaching my SO how to Neopets
-he successfully made an account, opened his newbie pack, and dressed his Aisha in a dress from the NC mall on his own -couldn't buy anything from the shops bc others were item sniping -decided the site was garbage and stopped playing -I wanted him to freeze his account by posting something stupid on the boards but he saw his Aisha was starving and felt pity -argued for 3 minutes about feeding it -bought a couch that wasn't Neohome 2.0 compatible and is now resenting the couch -gave me the couch

🔥 unpopular opinion on Neopets
oh dang, I'm so out of touch with the fanbase, I'm not sure what hip, current unpopular opinions are out there?
here's one: I didn't think The Faerie's Ruin plot was all that great. It did do a good job of revitalizing the fanbase, but from a plot perspective, I didn't enjoy it. Basically, since the different worlds of Neopia are so different in terms of technology level and amount/type of magic, it just feels weird to have them interact. I would have preferred if they had kept the plot more limited in scope, instead of involving Faerieland AND Brightvale AND Shenkuu AND the Lost Desert AND the Haunted Woods. It just feels like too much. After all, previous plots were limited to roughly two worlds - Dr. Sloth had Virtupets and Kreludor; Meridell had the Darigan Citadel and well, Meridell; Hannah had the Lost Desert and Terror Mountain. Similarly, while I appreciate their attempts at adding in existing or recurring Neopets characters, the number of established characters in comparison to past plots feels like too much, like they were just trying to remind players that these characters exist.
also Neohomes 2.0 are garbage. they allow SO much less flexibility than original Neohomes - I can’t even choose the layout of my own home OR have separate rooms OR have additional floors OR have any kind of ground cover in my yard? oh, but I get to see my house in riveting psuedo-3D? gee, thanks.

So, does anybody else still like the Classic Neohomes? I admit that the 3D look of the 2.0 is nifty, but I always enjoyed being able to make multiple rooms/letting each of my pets have their own area without having a tight space limit.
