Hey there! I wanted to rec Neo Automisia, a rad and gritty cyberpunk story about a very lovable (in the same gritty way) technomancer Monique navigating life (hard) and relationships (harder) and work as a gun for hire (manageable) after a four-year long depressive spell.

It just speaks to me - the setting's alive, the character designs are cool, Moni herself can be extremely relatable in raw ways at times, the website also features additional lore snippets to pick up, etc. And it's also queer, feels important to mention.

if you mean the recent sequence between the purple haired hacker girl and Deirdre, that's a patron commissioned month-by-month sequence with a few more pages in the works- i'll have another out before the month ends, i just need to not be extremely depressed as for if it's related to the main webcomic, it's directly related/takes place in a yet to be shown location. i have a handful of drawings/a couple of sequences centered around it which i'm honestly just gonna put in the reblogs for this so your ask isn't too much of me being scattered, but it will be a major part of neo-a

ouGH 10. I have a small handful of AUs i've slotted moni into, whether because i've been prepped to play a table game and thought it might be fun to explore some of her isms from new angles/perspectives, or because i found a setting interesting on its own enough to write or draw art of her within it to explore new angles. The biggest one i've wanted to draw more things for has been a Changeling: the Lost AU that's been rattling around in my head for a year + now, changeling is just such a fantastic setting to play with ;;

The crux of Moni's existence is contradictions; for as anxious as she is and for as much as she might not want to get into fights, Moni is a creature of raw Id and impulse, an adrenaline junkie at worst. If she gets into a fight, things invariably lean hard into overt violence with increasing tempo- if scared, lashing out or collapsing under the weight of stress are quite literally a coin toss from one another. 23. Retro was played by a friend of mine, who I got to play through a ton of shit with that basically constitutes the shit I want to convey and depict as the comic goes on- though I can try to answer this from what I got to see of her! Imo at least, retro had the greatest difficulty processing like... rejection, if that tracks? at multiple points in play and personal vignettes we'd done, it felt like retro absolutely didn't want to be left alone by those that cared about her- whether that was rejection by a weird digital doppelganger Moni had been trying and failing to cope with herself, rejection from a close friend of hers she'd crushed on for years who himself had failed to recognize and acknowledge those feelings, or in the more abstract sense of just... her life situation overall, as a kid orphaned by circumstances her parents had zero control over and bounced around foster care. Expressing is a harder one to answer as a third party- I would say anger with regard to the above, or grief, but those are as like... a fellow player/writer/friend as opposed to knowing exactly what was going on in retro's head.

Ok, questions for Moni 1)What’s the maximum amount of time your character can sit still with nothing to do? 28) Would they prefer a lie over an unpleasant truth? 35)How do they treat the things their friends come to them excited about? Are they supportive? And for the creator- H) What trait of theirs do you admire most?

oh god uhhh 1: Barely any time- it's a small detail in chapter one, but while Spyder is doing recon there's a tab open in Moni's AR feed that's literally just a galaga emulator on pause. the girl is undiagnosed adhd as hell and finds her own enrichment if things are too quiet. 28: Absolutely a lie, she can't even bring herself to tell others simple truths- for her at least, it'd feel hypocritical to ask for simple truths instead of little lies. (totally not gonna be relevant in the not too distant future) 35: She's quick to excite and likes excuses to not be awkward or sad, so 9 times out of 10 she's supportive as hell. if it's technical or niche knowledge, as a HS dropout, she feels like she can only contribute so much conversationally- but to the credit she wouldn't give herself, she's curious enough to pick up info/otherwise learn as conversations go. H) Moni is a major comfort character for me; Growing up, I was/still am a massive fan of Gurren Lagann, as i saw it at a very low point in my life that I really really needed- the idea of someone who could push through anything and everything to achieve something, odds and despair be damned, was utterly foreign to me in my late teens. I attached to it really quickly, and wanted to be someone like that. Real life of course isn't a super mecha anime- and shortly afterward I got hit with a figurative train of additional bullshit that worsened my depression, and afterward was around the time I statted/drew Moni's first iteration (unrelated to the comic, that game kinda pittered out ;;). Just this cocky little barrens rat with a penchant for illegal chrome and destructive weaponry, who kept bouncing back despite getting shot/flamethrowered/electrocuted/stabbed/etc etc her first iteration was ironically far less competent than my second approach years later. When I took a stab at her the second time, I wasn't in much better a spot mental health wise- I wound up making her an inverse of how she'd been originally, a timid as hell and introverted mess liable to snap at relatively common atrocities in the seattle metroplex. I met some friends and played her out further, and things kind of developed from there into some of the later art you've probably seen me post, scarred up and loving every second of close quarters hyperviolence she gets to take part in. This's all set dressing and context. The trait I admire most about her is her persistence, and genuine ability to grow. No matter what bullshit I played her through, no matter what dire stuff she had to work through in personal roleplays or as a consequence of her digging into things that shouldn't be, there were single digit times she ever came close to giving up or throwing in the towel. The idea that someone as flawed and as broken as her could genuinely improve on herself/otherwise reach a point of self actualization makes me hopeful that I could do the same.

out of my characters, monique's my favorite to have done stuff with/written for/drawn/etc,

I've translated her across a dozen ttrpg systems/settings, and a couple videogame settings that felt like she fit into- but her base iteration is as a cybernetic criminal for hire in a dystopic seattle, where magic's crept back into the world among stranger things. Atop that, Moni is a painfully novice technomancer- someone able to interface and influence technology with only their minds, and no additional or specialized equipment. Outside the techno thing she barely understands/ignores more often than not, Moni is painfully mundane- her days are spent sleeping, mooching food from her horrible roommate, and playing games dug from the smoldering remains of the former internet/real world electronic dumps or thrifts. Her nights are spent running jobs in the shadows for nameless employers, and barely skirting the lines of etiquette and competency required for that line of work. She's awkward, reclusive, and a slave to her impulses. Imo at least, what makes her special is completely outside her narrative- everything I've described is how she started out 3 years ago when I joined a friend on a shadowrun ttrpg server, and 3 years is a lot of time for a character to evolve and change. it wouldn't be any fun to spoil what I'm already showing with the comic, but she's come a long way from where she started/Moni as a character is such a huge part of my life, to the point that I've made a bunch of extremely close friends through my time playing and writing her.

23: What emotion is the hardest for your OC to process? How about express? -Imo at least in writing and playing Moni for the time I have, the hardest emotion for her to process outright is guilt. She's 100% the type of person who can't sit still if she feels like she fucked something up, or could have taken action that might've made a bad situation even slightly better. The past, however mundane, haunts her to such a degree that she either gets stuck in it or realizes she hasn't planned/prepared for tomorrow. Simultaneously, it's the easiest emotion for her to express through raw anxiety. As for the hardest to eẍ̸̢͈p̷͇͆͘r̸̡͎̟̍͌̉ȩ̸̘̽̀͊s̶̫̞̤̲̝̋͝s̷͈̰͎̱̫̄ [QUERY SENT]

What's one way your OC has changed since you first came up with them? -When I play tabletops or write characters for my own shit, I really REALLY dislike stagnation- like I don't want to write a story where characters remain static and unchanging, that's not fun to write around and not nearly what I want to see in a story or its characters. Moni's gone through a few iterations before anything concrete was set in stone for what became neo-a- but the biggest way she's changed is just... slowly getting ever more comfortable in her own existence, if that makes sense? It's a self actualization thing. 9. Do you have a specific lyric or quote which you associate with your OC? -There's a song by Fourth Strike's The Garages called Firewalker With Me- it's essentially become the song I associate with Moni most for a bunch of reasons, most of which will become apparent as the comic progresses. If you met your OC, would the two of you get along? -GOD HARD FUCK UHHHHHHHHHHHHHH it's hard to say? i like to hope so- if it was person meets person, maybe. i'm real gay and shit and tbqh she's the kind of direct and violently determined person i wish i could be when it comes to my own bullshit. author to character though I'm SUPER not sure- i write the world and put her in situations:tm:, but im also working a dayjob i hate with little option of swapping it out/otherwise mortal, human, and painfully boring. 24.
