I was born in the wrong place.
I have always thought that Naples is a feeling. Italian writer Luciano De Crescenzo also said that being Neapolitan is a condition of the human soul. I find it in the restlessness of my days. In a natural propensity for drama. In the only way I love, which is too much in words to even say. It does not have a single term. It is 'assai', when it grips the guts and snatches the air.
I find myself Neapolitan in a sharp jealousy towards life and its baroque carriage or because I still believe in miracles. When I hope for a good day to drag me out of the bed in the morning. Or when I hear the noise of my feet as I jump down the stairs of the buildings, because I don't know how to lean softly on things. I feel Neaples when I seal my italian moka pot with simple and unconscious precision, and condemn it to the fire, to grumble until it dies. When I think about tomorrow the day after tomorrow and, at times, I shuffle the cards on the table and I also pretend to be a 'Janara'. I am pleased to look into other people's homes and I need to spy on their future as well. If it's too bad, nobody believes it, not even me. Yet I repeat spells in some corners of the city. I surrender to beliefs and rituals, including pizza on Saturday night. I can keep my eyes on me.

If only I could be a mythological creature, I would like to have been born from the lava and the foam of the waves, when Parthenope cast herself into the sea and drowned as her song failed to entice Odysseus. When nobody was there to say 'Futtetenne {fuck it}. Plenty of fish in the sea'. When I look at the Vesuvius volcano, I can understand him so well: choosing wisely to rest up there, but still keeping active, and secretly macerating elsewhere. I feel his lava bubbling in my veins. Sooner or later that lava will gush out from the cracks of the person I broke.
This is the deep bond between us, a pact of brotherhood and incandescent love: we both are fitting our place, rumbling in silence. We both are vigilant for ourselves and for the other, waiting to burst relentlessly at the first sign. When the moment is right. From time to time, we exchange the substance of our secrets and they are so fluid and warm that I can't hold back a flow of tears. They burn me so hard.

GATTO MAMMONE
The Gatto Mammone (Mammon Cat) or Gattomammone is a magical creature of the popular tradition of Naples, with the characteristics of a huge terrifying looking cat. Its name derives from the encounter of the term cat (that in the Middle Ages was associated with the devil) with another word such as maimūn (which in Arabic means "monkey") or Mammon, a word with an uncertain etymology which in Aramaic is also an attribute of the devil. In fact, this demonic cat would used frighten the herds of cattle, moving and expressing itself in a wicked and devilish way. Its call sounds like something in between a terrifying roar and a disturbing meow, despite that it can be so stealthy as to attack unsuspecting people and tear them to pieces without leaving even the bones. In other narratives, however, it has a protective function and is a positive spirit, immune to the harmful effects of the spells of other spirits. In some cases, he has a white "M" on his black face, other times he is all black and hides in dark corners.
