“Boo, you whore.”
Another piece of popcorn hits the tv screen joining the pile that has accumulated on the floor below since the beginning of the movie you started almost 2 hours ago. The guy confessing his love below the girls window, the sappy confession, the cliche smile and laugh. Yuck, it makes you pretend gag as you fly a handful of popcorn this time.
If someone told you that you would be all bent up about turning down a guy, you’d tell them that they’re tripping but here you are. The typical ‘in your feelings’ watching sappy shit and in the same clothes as yesterday morning. Yes, yesterday morning. How the hell did you get here?
For the 3rd time in that hour you pick up your phone to check for any notifications. Almost unlocking it to open the contacts app and.. No! You mentally condemn yourself for thinking of calling him. It would be pointless considering he hasn’t made any form of contact since that night at the beach. Since Oscar ‘Spooky’ Diaz told you, his weekend booty call, he might think he feels something more between the two of you. It’s not the first time a guy has confessed that he has a crush on you, it’s just never been done like this. It’s usually, hey I like you, then comes the banging and then ghosted. Now it’s completely opposite.
You can’t help but be confused and laugh about the whole thing because since Oscar became the leader of of the Santos he had been a cold looking, tough talking, macho man that no one would dare question. Even with you when the whole FWB started then he got comfortable. You definitely weren’t prepared for it.
With all this ghosting and being a sad little girl, it has given you time to think about it all. About pursuing a relationship with Spooky. But with how things went down, you question it even more than you did before. His immediate reaction to rejection is anger and pettiness. Instead of looking at the situation and thinking on how to handle it. If this is how he handles his relationships you can only imagine how he handles his gang business but the teardrop tattoo tells you enough.
Without even thinking of the two you of being the two of you, being with him... it was something. When you’d have sex and just lay next to him, it did feel like something. But you never acknowledged it as anything because it was just sex and was explicitly labeled by him as just so.
“This is just sad.” Your sister says as she stands in the door way, to which you completely ignore.
You point the remote to the tv and turn up the volume, “Your life is sad.”
“Yeah, but not as sad as yours.”
She strides over and grabs the remote from besides you to turn off the movie. You roll your eyes and grab your phone as another means of distraction, which she grabs from you too.
“What?!”
She gives you a look of ‘oh really?’ and crosses her arms. If there is one thing to get you to lose your marbles it’s when people stare at you. Waiting for you to crack and you always do.
“What do you want me to do? He clearly got his feelings hurt and doesn’t want anything to do with me. And for what it’s worth, I’m not even entirely sure I can see anything happening between us.” You admit, finally looking at the younger verison of yourself.
She sighs and ushers you to move over to let her lay beside you, “Y/N, you really don’t get it, huh? Oscar likes you! It scared you when he admitted it because like I always say, he’s a dangerous guy. But sweetheart, you may not see it entirely but you still see it. You are curious. You want to know what’s there besides sex no matter how much you say that you can’t see it. Hello! We can all see that y’all weren’t just sleeping with each other. Something is there and you need to just take that leap of faith. You keep telling yourself that it’s pointless to try and talk with him. Then I see you like this and it’s obvious you’re in your feelings. So do something about it.”
She smacks your leg and gets up to leave. You can only huff and puff at her opinion. What more could you do though? You’ve given him space both after the night at the beach and when you left him the voicemail. Perhaps his pride is too big and he didn’t want to make the first move. But so is yours. If you didn’t make the move, your sister would drag you there. So fuck it, you sigh and roll out of bed to make yourself presentable to go talk to Oscar.
After sitting in your driveway for 10 minutes trying to talk yourself out of it, you twist the key into the ignition and take a deep, semi-confident breath, “Okay, just go over there and talk to him. Ask him what’s up, why he been ghosting you. Just be cool. Com’n Y/N, shake your damn nerves. You’re that bitch, been that bitch and will foreva be the bitch!”
You pep talk yourself while driving to Oscars and it makes you feel a little better and it distracts you long enough that you’re now driving on the familiar street. You park behind a few cars on the curb that’s a house down from his.
As you approach it, music can be heard as well as guys talking. It’s mid afternoon which meant the Santos were probably scattered on the front lawn. Sure enough as you step in front of the house there is a few on the porch, a few on the run down couches and others standing around. Oscar leant besides the stairs and his eyes find yours for a brief second.
You look at the Cholos as you walk up the pathway leading to the stairs of the house. A few hushed conversations and tsks from the rucas.
“Hey,” You make your way in front of Oscar who just takes a swig of his redbull, eyes avert and looking down at his feet.
“Sup.”
You look at Joker who sports an amused face, staring at you like you were raspado on a hot day, you inhale deeply and look back to Oscar, shifting your weight and crossing your arms.
“I tried calling, even left you a message. Did you get it?” Oscar still didn’t look at you, only at the can in his hand, sniffing and shrugging his shoulders.
It isn’t that Oscar is upset that you turned him down or even that you trash talked him, but that he feels like shit when he listened to your voicemail. As he had just spent that Friday night doing fine ass Leti in a hotel room on Fremont street, in Sin City. Because yes, it was fucked up on what you said. But Oscar did feel like he wanted more with you, not from you. It scared him to admit it, he wasn’t one to have time for serious relationship shit but hell he wanted it. So when you went off, he did too.
“Been busy, I’m a busy man.” He finally looks to you, taking a long gulp then crushing the empty can in hand and tossing it aside. Your eyes follow it and you scoff.
The Santos laugh as a side smirk forms on his face, “Real busy, homes!”
It’s obvious he is playing the part of being the leader, looking tough and shit. His machismo running hard.
“Since when you that kinda hyna, Y/N? Y’all just fucking why you so pressed on why he ain’t on your ass?” Joker calls out, getting a chuckle from Oscar and everyone else.
You deadpan look at him and then look to Oscar, waiting for him to talk to you. To ask the guys to bounce or even signal you to take a walk but he just stares at you like you were some annoying Girl Scout at the front door.
“You lucky you fine because you real dumb.” Another Santo you recognize as Oso says and you feel real ganged up on now. You lick your lips and purse them into a thin line, looking at him to ask what the hell he means by that. “Nena, he was busy banging fine ass Leti that’s why he ain’t call you back. Looks like he wanted something spicer.”
Your brows furrow at Oso’s words. Busy banging fine ass Leti. Everyone begins to laugh and look at you like you’re the high school laughing stock. Oscar’s facial expression says yup, that’s right. But you weren’t about to succumb to Oso’s words and react the way they probably hope you will.
“Sin City, huh? Nice.”
That’s all you say as you start to walk away from the house. You honestly could have said more, more trash talk about Oscar fucking Leti or worse. You could have gone off about how Spooky got his little heart broken but you weren’t about to make a fool of him in front of the Santos, you weren’t a prick like that. Let him have his power trip, you thought.
You could feel the tears forming as you make your way back to the car. The hot liquid threatening to spill over but quickly blinking them away. After getting in the car, you grip the steering wheel and take a deep, sharp breath before starting it and driving off.
Oscar continues to laugh with his homies about what just happened but he briefly lets his face fall as he replays the look you gave him and how cold your voice became. But this is how he hoped it’d go. He secretly hoped you’d be offended and leave because the guilt he felt when listening to your voicemail told him that he didn’t deserve a woman like you. So pushing you away works better.
“Hynas be fuckin’ trippin’.” He says pulling the cigarette pack from his pocket.
-
The look you give your sister when you get back to your loft is all she needed to understand how things went. She gave you an apologetic look as you shrugged your shoulders. Nothing a bathe couldn’t fix.
In all your years of dating, this has to be the most fucked up thing. It’s one thing for a guy to sleep with you and then ghost you, but to admit feelings then fuck other chick and ghost you? That hits different.
The speaker plays music as the candles burn sweet aromas while you sit in a hot, bubbly bath. You have your head tipped back and eyes closed. It’s when you get comfortable that your mind starts replaying the moments that connected to Oscar’s confession that night.
The smiles Oscar had when you’d walk through his front door, the lingering stares when you’d talk, the skin to skin even after the sex was long over. The guy has liked you from the start.
Then you start to think your reactions. The burning feeling in your cheeks, the comfort in the touches, the tink your heart had when his name popped up on your phone.
“Fuck.”
How did you not see how you were falling for him as he was for you? How could you deny it was just sex when you thought of him before, during and after the hook ups? Did that “Spooky” image of him really cloud your judgement that much? Sweetheart, the guy admitted he bounced to go fuck Leti in Las Vegas!
But you know the only reason he did so is because of his go-to reaction to things. Oscar always gets his way with things and people.
You sigh as you finally push the denial and fear aside to see things more clearly. The water splashes around as you sit up from the tub, turning on the shower to rinse off. You get out, clean up and dry off while thinking what your next is move is going to be. From the looks of it you were right about Oscar’s pride. Either he isn’t making the first move or actually has decided that he is over you. Yet, here you are. On a mission to get him to talk to you.
There isn’t any hesitation this time. You don’t wait in your driveway before driving off nor do you pep talk yourself on your way there. It’s one of those moments that your ambition is so strong that you are diving head first.
And thank the heavens there are no Santos crowding the house. The red impala in the driveway and the dimly lit kitchen shows that he is home. Unless he had fine ass Leti pick him up. You shake the thought as you pull up the curb directly in front of the Diaz residence.
You step out and walk onto the sidewalk when your feet plants itself there. It’s then that you begin to think. What will you say to him? Why haven’t you been talking to me? What’s with you dipping to Vegas? Or ‘hey, in my 20 minute bathe I had before coming here I suddenly understood what you meant about thinking of other shit besides sex. And I also realize I let everyone’s image of you cloud my judgement before giving you a chance!’
You turn back and open the passenger side door, turning the ignition so that the car system is on. The glow of your phone hitting your face as you reach for the aux cord and connecting it.
“This is so stupid, this so fucking dumb. All or nothing, Y/N.”
As the music starts, you turn it up and stand up back on the sidewalk.
The instrumental starts playing to “The Story” by Sara Ramirez that was featured on one of your favorite shows, Grey’s Anatomy. The moon casting a glow onto the yard, the chilly air surrounding. It’s like out of the damn movies you swear are so cliche. The same ones you would gag at and promise yourself you wouldn’t let a guy ever do. And look at you now.
All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to
It’s true, I was made for you
“I know you’re home. I can see the lights on and your car is here... and I’ll stand out here until you come out and talk to me. All night if I have to. I know you wanna talk.”
You call out loud, leaning against your car and reaching through the open window to up turn the volume.
Oscar mutes the tv to make sure he’s hearing right. As you spoke, he stands from the couch and in place when he confirms it’s your voice he’s hearing. That’s when the soft music under your voice gets louder.
I climbed across the mountains tops
Swam all across the ocean blue
I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules
But baby I broke them all for you
The music blares from outside. He rolls his eyes and stands by the front door for a moment as he listens. Fighting the urge to walk out, shut off the music and tell you to bounce. He is also fighting a grin that his face is forcing, hearing that sappy music. But the first urge wins.
You see the front door open and a visibly irritated Oscar descend down the small staircase. He strides over quickly, pulling you off from against the door and reaching in to hit the knob, turning off the stereo system.
Oscar stands and faces you. He doesn’t say anything looking at you with annoyance.
“I knew you were home.” You joke, a little smile peeking. He wipes his chin and huffs.
“What do you want?”
“To talk.”
He only shakes his head, “I said all I needed to when you were here earlier.”
The sounds you make makes him quirk an eyebrow and you untangle your arms that were across your chest, “You’re acting like your compas are around. Afraid someone is listening? Don’t want anyone to hear you talk about your feelings? Come, let’s go inside.”
You walk towards his house and welcome yourself in without him so much as a step behind you. He stands there as you did so, shaking his head and releasing a held in breath. Things are definitely not going how he imagined.
When he steps over the threhold, you’re sat on the couch and staring of towards the kitchen. The many times you were here and it for the first time feels like you’re out of place. Oscar clears his throat and sits on the chair across from you.
“Let’s talk.”
You lick your lips and look down at your hands then to him, “You’re mad I turned you down. That’s why you’re acting like this. And that’s fine. You acted out with the whole Vegas shit and that’s fine. I get it.”
“You get it?” Oscar leans forward to rest his arms on his knees, “I went to fuck another hyna barely a day after we talked and that’s fine to you?”
You swallow and shrug your shoulders, “Yeah. I’m not your ruca, like Joker said we’ve just been fucking, we didn’t make a rule that we can’t see others.”
Oscar laughs at himself, reading you before looking away and standing. He walks to the dining area grabbing the ashtray, lighting a joint before settling back in his seat.
“It didn’t tick you off one bit that I spent the weekend in Las Vegas with someone, not just someone but fine ass Leti? Ha, bullshit it’s fine.” He scoffs.
“I-it didnt. It doesn’t.”
Oscar’s face contorts to anger, brows furrowing and lips pressed together tightly before shouting out, “It should! It should bother you. Why would you come running back to the guy who treats you like that? That’s fucked up. You shouldn’t let no one treat you like that. Not me, not anyone.”
You inhale sharply, “Well I’m here! I’m here because you got me thinking now. You got me in my damn feelings. Because any other guy to pull what you did, I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t come running back, like you say. I didn’t plan to. After your little machismo stunt with the guys I thought, fuck um. Fuck all that. Then... all those stupid times when I could feel you smiling at me, when you claimed we were just fucking? How when I craved, when we craved each other when we weren’t fucking?”
You’re out of breath. Your chest heaving, as the tears has formed, your anger always summoned tears, it’s a weakness of yours.
“I started thinking and seeing all the things that you claimed you wanted with me. And then I finally broke the vision of you that everyone sees and I saw you, Oscar not Spooky. And then my little stupid heart told me to come tell you all this.”
Oscar has only felt like this with his little brother, Cesar. The feeling of pushing and fighting for something. And when he built the courage to tell you he wanted more, he felt it then too. But then everything else that happened afterwards broke that feeling. Until now, he feels it again. It feels like a warm feeling, in the pit of his stomach that spreading throughout his chest now. And you feel it too.
You two only stare at one another. The only thing between you is the coffee table. He leans back in his chair, when his cheeks lift in a small smile. Oscar keeps his eyes off you for a bit. He really thought you’d get more upset and storm off after he dragged the whole sleeping with someone else thing. But here you are, pushing and fighting.
“So what now? Hm, tell me what you want to happen now.”
Just as he did, you look away and feel your cheeks burn. The warm feeling assaulting your chest.
“I want to figure this out. I want to know why my gut is telling me to find out what’s here. And you’re right, I don’t deserve to be treated this way but... I want to be treated someone kind of way with you.”
Oscar nods, blinking slowly and peering at you as you stand. You walk over and swing your leg across his lap to sit. His hands automatically reaching your waist, sliding up your back and down.
“Tell me you want that too.”
Oscar nods as your faces are mere inches apart. The space growing smaller and the warm feeling intensifying.
When your lips connect and it’s that moment you hear in those stories, the ones when the guys come home from the war to their gals, it’s bliss. The kiss isn’t needy, it isn’t I want you so bad but I want you. You two aren’t fighting for dominance. You aren’t trying to rip each other’s clothes off like you usually would in this situation.
After a few moments of kissing, you pull back and rest your forehead against his. Shallows breaths while keeping your eyes closed.
“So where do we start?” You ask him. He chuckles as you lean back, hands interlocked at the back of his neck.
“Dinner tomorrow. I’m gonna cook for you, get to know each other. Let’s start there.”

Summertime- 10. Someone gets sunburn (the reader) and needs a little tlc. (Rami or Merriell)
I don’t know why, but I’ve just been dying to write a sunburn story! Thanks for requesting this one 🧡
Tumblr media
You squealed with laughter as the wave crashed into your shoulders, the ocean water splattering up your neck and soaking your hair.
You looked over at Merriell, who had just emerged after diving underneath the wave. He gave his head a toss, droplets of water flinging away from his curls. He smoothed back his hair and looked at you with wide, happy eyes.
“Toldja ya hair was gonna get wet,” he smirked.
“I tried!” you insisted, grinning as you swam to him and placed a salty kiss on his lips.
 “Here comes anotha one—come on!”
Mer grabbed your hand and ducked into the wave again. This time you followed his lead, giving up on maintaining what you thought was a cute beach-do.
You let go of his hand to wipe your eyes and grinned as you pulled out your scrunchie and ducked into the water again so you could slick your hair back.
“I’m not cute anymore,” you pouted as you emerged.
Merriell laughed and said, “Nonsense, darlin. Though ya are turnin’ a lil red. Sure ya put sunscreen on?”
 “Positive!”
“Maybe we should go back unda the umbrella fo—”
“No! This is fun! I promise I’m not getting burnt.”
Merriell shrugged his dark shoulders and turned his attention back to the water to watch for the next wave. You played together, laughing and splashing, enjoying the refreshing coolness of the ocean in contrast with the blaring heat of the sun.
When the water calmed again, Merriell asked if you were ready to head back to the hotel to get ready for dinner.
As you toweled off, his eyes traveled over your torso but not in their usual licentious manner.
“What?” you asked as you scrunched the towel over the ends of your hair.
 Merriell took a deep breath.
 “Ya look red.”
“Nah—I’m fine,” you dismissed with a smile as you shoved your towel into your beach bag.
 * * * 3 Hours Later * * *
“I’m dying, Mer,” you whined as you sat on the bed, your torso stiff and radiating heat underneath your short-sleeved polo dress.
 “‘M so sorry, darlin.”
“I SWEAR I put sunscreen on this morning,” you said more to yourself than to your boyfriend as you wracked your brain to figure out how you got so badly burned.
“Didja reapply after we swam ‘round lunchtime?” he asked as he stood in front of you, looking handsome in his dark blue shorts and palm-tree-shaped polka-dot button up.
Your eyes squeezed shut tight as you fought off tears of stupidity.
“No—I didn’t even think about it.”
“Salt water’ll scrub ya raw. Damn bottles say “waterproof” but they ain’t really,” Mer muttered angrily as he went into the bathroom and dug through your bag for the aloe you had packed—just in case.
By the time he returned to stand in front of you, two fat tears had rolled down your cheeks. Merriell placed the aloe on the nightstand and bent at the waist so he would be eye level with you. He reached out and lifted your chin, but you still didn’t look up at him.
“Stop dat. Ya know I’ma take care a you.”
You gave an undignified sniff and still refused to meet his eyes.
 “Darlin’ look at me.”
 “I’ll cry if I do.”
Merriell chuckled softly and leaned in to kiss your forehead, his normally warm lips feeling almost cool against your burnt face.
“Why ya gonna cry? Hurt dat bad?”
You were quiet for a moment as Merriell straightened and looked down at you.
With a sigh, you answered, “I’m ruining our last day of vacation. I won’t be able to do anything like this!”
Half of Mer’s mouth formed a grin as he dropped down to his knees, forcing you to look at him. When you met his empathetic green eyes, your lip trembled, as you knew it would, but he placed a gentle hand on the side of your face, his thumb ghosting over your lips.
“And what’ll be so bad ‘bout layin’ in bed, watchin’ a lil TV while we on our vacation?”
You gave Merriell a tiny smile and slightly shook your head in awe of his sweet nature.
 “Nothin’ I guess.”
“Absolutely nothin’, darlin. I can go anywhere ya like for anythin’ ya wanna eat. I’ll put dis goop on ya anytime ya need it. I’ll make sure ya drink lots of wata. I love takin’ care a you because ya always take such good care a me.”
Your lip trembled again, but this time it was for an entirely different feeling: happiness.
 “I love you, Merriell Shelton.”
“I love ya more, baby. Now let’s get dat dress off.”
“For absolutely no fun reason,” you grumbled.
Mer laughed, and said, “Ya won’t be sunburned foreva. Now, up ya go.”
He pulled you up by your hands and you hissed at the way your dress moved against your skin. Slowly, Merriell worked your dress off and over your head, whistling when he finally took in the state of your skin.
 “Don’t move.”
He returned from the bathroom with a few ibuprofen and bent to grab a bottle of water from the fridge.
You swallowed your pills, then Merriell played an on-the-spot game of Operation™️ making sure not to slide the straps of your bra against your skin as he removed it. Your back definitely got it worse than your front, so he instructed you to lie face down.
You made a noise as Mer opened the aloe and poured some into his hand.
“I know—but it’s gonna feel so much betta once ya get past the cold.”
Bracing for contact, you clutched at the sheets as Merriell dribbled a little aloe onto your shoulder.
 “Ai-yi-yi!” you called out.
He giggled and said, “Don’t think I’ve eva heard ya yell dat before.”
You groaned in response, and Merriell began to gently rub the aloe over your shoulder. His touch was feather-light, and he took it slow, cooling one section of your back at a time until it finally felt like the fire that had become your skin had been squelched.
Mer lightly petted your lower back where the sun hadn’t reached while you were in the water as he waited for the aloe to dry.
“Thank you,” you murmured, your eyes closed as you concentrated on his soothing touch.
“Of course. Ready for the front?”
“Ready as I’ll ever be,” you answered, slowly rolling over and propping your head up with extra pillows so your upper back wasn’t directly on the bed.
He started with your arms, then moved to your chest, slowly dribbling out the aloe so it wasn’t a shock to your aching skin. Like your lower back, your belly had escaped the wrath of the sun, so Mer gently trailed his fingers over your unburnt skin, occasionally reaching up to stroke your breasts, keeping the touch intimate rather than sexual.
By the time the aloe was dry, you were fast asleep.
Merriell got up, careful not to jostle the king-size bed, and went to the bathroom to wash off the sticky aloe. Your mouth was open and a soft snore was passing through the gap, making him smile as he looked you over, still in disbelief at just how red your skin had turned.
Fussing with the comforter, he finally got it out from under your legs without waking you. He pulled it over you making sure your arms were placed on top of the blanket and making sure not to let it touch your burnt chest.
“I’ll always take care a ya,” he murmured as he pressed a gentle kiss to the tip of your nose.

B A C K S T O R Y —-
suran was born to a former screenwriter (current film/tv reviewer) and his wife, a full-time stay at home mother, in seoul, south korea. from a very young age, she was beckoned to be a critical thinker —- her friends often loathed watching cartoons with her as she’d judge them based on their animation, writing, and so on. all of them would say that she doesn’t just sit back and enjoy them because she’s been raised to ask questions and analyze creative work. however, this made her a great student when it came to school, and she developed a love for learning at a young age.
around the age of eight years old, she decided that she wanted to be an actress. after spending long hours studying how it was done by the men and women on tv, she had a hunch that she’d be able to do it with ease. then, not long after, with her father’s connections, she was able to make her acting début in a drama called ‘ballad of seodong’ —- a historical piece where she played the younger version of the drama’s main character, princess seonhwa of silla. after that, she went on to star in another drama, then after, two feature films; one of those being a main role for her!
needless to say, she was a hardworking child; one that made her mom and dad super proud. however, when her contract with the acting agency ended, she was approached by bc entertainment. they discovered a few options for her —- representing her as an actress was mentioned, but the other option they provided seemed slightly better to her. they made a deal with her that they’d give her an easy début in an idol group so she could make a bigger name for herself, and at the time, she didn’t see anything wrong with that and decided to accept, and soon after, in 2010, she became a bc trainee.
while she envisioned this to be a great time of learning and accomplishment, it was anything but —- the trainee lifestyle kind of really destroyed her. body dysmorphia tw there was constant talk about diet and beauty, and whenever she looked around her, she found that everyone else was so graceful and glamorous. she felt like she didn’t meet their standards, and she became anxious about it. she started to look in the mirror and hate her appearance. being that she wasn’t quite talented at singing and dancing, she knew that beauty and personality were going to have to be her tickets to debut, so she spent almost all the money she made as a child actress on cosmetic surgery. within the two year time span that she trained, she got her eyelids, forehead, nose, jawline, and breasts done.
bc entertainment found this brave of her, and after she’d fully recovered, they decided to take a chance on her and put her in the lineup of lipstick. they wanted to use her for visual appeal more than outward talent, and she became a spectacle; an ornament almost. she loved and hated all this attention.
a few years pass and bc helps her land her first acting gig in years, and she couldn’t be more excited. however, when it’s announced, and when it later airs, netizens began to realize that they had seen her name before, and they pulled up old photos of her as a kid in the dramas and movies she starred in. when they put two and two together and saw that she looked like a drastically different person now, they were appalled; calling her a fraud as she’s made comments in the past about natural health and beauty.
due to this, her performance in ‘discovery of love’ wasn’t regarded as anything special and she fell into a deep depression; realizing that her past insecurities only came to ruin her life in present day.
after that, she spent years in a dark depression and became disinterested in being an idol, in being in lipstick. so much pressure was put on her —- be beautiful, be thin, be effervescent on camera, be appealing to the masses... and when she couldn’t fulfill all of those, she felt hopeless; she felt like a failure. everyone seemed to hate her, and she was so regretful of all she’d done leading up to this point.
however, after a few years of suffering, bc finally guided her into another acting opportunity once negative talk of her died down to a slow simmer, and it helped rouse her from this slump for quite awhile. the filming process kept her distracted, and she loved the character she portrayed, and when it was announced to the public, they had mixed reactions. all of them wondered why they’d cast her, but when the show aired, it became a cultural phenomenon in all of korea. ‘goblin’ now sits as one of the nation’s highest rated televised dramas, and after watching her thrilling performance as the leading female role, netizens grew soft for her; their opinions completely changingh
this drastic change has been so good to her that she doesn’t even believe she deserves it. she’s grateful for it though, and would rather be seen as some sort of angel to the nation instead of a fraud. what stresses her out now though is the pressure to keep this image going. she’s terrified of what’d happen if she fell from grace again, so she’s constantly on her best behavior —- not wanting anymore scandals to ruin her.
overall, her personality is really sweet. there’s a coldness to her because she’s afraid of what people think of her initially, but once she warms up to you, she’ll be a great friend. she’s fiercely loyal and really just wants to be loved.
C O N N E C T I O N S —-
another child actress/actor who was friends with suran since they were signed under the same agency when they were little. now that they’re both idols, they’re taking it to mean that fate really wants their friendship to last forever, so they’re doing all they can to make that happen. must’ve been an active actor/actress from 2004-2010.
a person that she trained in bc with (2010-2012) that she was able to share her secrets and insecurities with, and every time she went under the knife, they were there for her. really, they would try to convince her that she was beautiful as is, but she had the worst time believing them due to her dysmorphia. however, they’re still friends to this day, and they’ll forever be confidantes.
someone who has no idea why she’s even in lipstick since she doesn’t have that much talent when it comes to singing and dancing. she doesn’t get a lot of lines in their songs, but somehow, manages to be center a lot and it infuriates them that she’s given any spotlight at all.
an ex-boyfriend of her that really didn’t give a shit about her and only really wanted her as arm candy, and once he realized she had a lot of baggage, broke up w her.
an ex-girlfriend from the rough period of her time as an idol (2014-2016) who she broke up with because she was too insecure, and felt she was undeserving of her love. they’re still lowkey soft for each other, but lord knows if they’ll get back together rip.
a current romantic interest of her’s (male preferred) who, for the first time in forever, is patient enough with her to stick around and helps her feel better about herself. however, he doesn’t want to make things official just yet and it makes her sad because she’s falling deep in love with him.
a girl who had her first lesbian/bi experience with suran that’s a bit obsessed with her because of it, but she doesn’t know how to tell them that she doesn’t feel the same way.
lots and lots of fwb plots, please! men, women, whatever... she likes sex.
someone that’s made her their muse, and often paints pictures of her, writes poetry about her, or whatever, but they’re too scared to tell her or show her what they’ve done.
a man who listed her as his ideal type, but it led to her getting backlash from his fans, so now their relationship is awkward and she’s scared to be seen in public with him lol.
a woman who she said was her ideal type as a joke, but she’s actually not joking at all and she desperately wants to get to know her better —- as friends or as fwbs or wtv.
people that help her with dancing, singing, and rapping! she’s not the worst that there is in the industry, but she still feels as though she’s lacking since she skated through training based on her looks alone. please help her tysm.
a younger man that she’s having a fwb relationship with and she loves spoiling him since he hasn’t paid off his debt from training yet, lol. make her a sugar mama pls.
really... i’m up for anything! so please let me know if none of these appeal to you so we can plot something else! love you all and thanks for reading!

A Timeline Of Cardi B's Meteoric Rise To Fame - See Every Moment From The Start!
https://bharatiyamedia.com/?p=351 Cardi B has got some serious star power! It’s been amazing to see just how much the 26-year-old entertainer has grown and evolved since she first started making headlines less than two years ago. Yep, that’s right. Can you believe that Bardi’s hit single, Bodak Yellow, dropped in 2017?! Related: Met Gala 2019: Cardi B SHUTS DOWN The Red Carpet! We know there’s so much more in store for Offset’s wife; her reign as the rap game’s most commercially successful female artist (sorry, Nicki Minaj) has truly just begun. We’ve compiled a list of the most important moments along Cardi B’s meteoric rise to fame! Ch-ch-check it out (below): 1992: A Star Is Born! October 11, 1992 – A ‘Regular, Degular, Schemgular’ Girl From The Bronx It’s only right that we start at the very beginning! Belcalis Almanzar was born in the Bronx, NY, to a Dominican father and Trinidadian mother. She picked up the nickname “Bacardi” at a young age, mirroring her sister Hennessy Carolina‘s alcohol-themed moniker. It later became simply Cardi B, and stuck like glue! Belcalis showed an interest in music pretty early on, by performing in high school talent shows and entertaining her peers whenever possible. Part of Cardi’s early years included working at a supermarket in Lower Manhattan. Upon being fired from her job, she took her old boss’ suggestion and started working at a strip club across the street. Those countless nights spent dancing for cash actually helped create the badass, outspoken woman we know today. She’s since credited her time as a dancer in multiple interviews as a means to an end, and a necessary moment for survival. She said the same of her decision to become a member of the Bloods gang, too. 2013-2017: Career Beginnings & Early Breakout Moments 2013 – Cardi B Starts Going Viral The woman sure knows how to entertain! All eyes were on Cardi after her hilarious and unfiltered videos started popping up all over Instagram and Vine. She used the social media platforms to speak her mind on taboo topics related to men, money, and her experiences as a stripper. She also made it very clear from the jump, that she is 100 percent a feminist! Oh, and the candid NSFW confessionals are still happening today, too. November 2015 – Cardi B’s Musical Debut On The Remix to Popcaan & Shaggy’s Boom Boom In 2015, Belcalis hit the studio to lay down a verse on Shaggy‘s dancehall track, Boom Boom. Although her flow wasn’t fully developed yet, she did drop a couple of icy, memorable lines like this one (below):  “You better empty your pockets, I’m talking heavy deposits/ Cardi Bartier got it, so you gon’ have to pay homage.” December 2015 – Cardi B Joins The Cast of Love & Hip Hop New York It didn’t take long for Cardi to become the break-out star and fan favorite of season 6 of VH1’s hit reality TV show Love & Hip Hop New York. The reason why is simple: the Bronx stripper kept the same sass and unfiltered commentary from her social media with her when she finally made it to the small screen. Way to always keep it real, okurrr! After two seasons on LHHNY, Cardi went on to announce that she’d be leaving the show to focus on furthering her musical career. Here we go, y’all! December 15, 2015 – Cardi’s Official Music Video Debut In The Visuals For Cheap Ass Weave Cardi made her official music video debut when she dropped the visuals to her single, Cheap Ass Weave. Long before the well-produced flare of her more recent videos, we see our girl rapping in what looks a like a make-shift nail salon in a broom closet for many scenes. Yikes! Talk about humble beginnings, ha! March 7, 2016 – Cardi Drops Her First Mixtape Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1 Just before officially exiting LHHNY, Cardi dropped her first mixtape, Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1. The 13-track project showcased the young rapper’s growing lyrical abilities and just how serious she was about taking the leap of doing music full time. The mixtape’s most recognizable hit, Foreva (above), featured a catchy hook and beat that signaled mainstream appeal early on. Hardly a Bodak Yellow, but still pretty impressive for the time! The rapper would go on to release Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 2 at the top of 2017 and ink a deal with Atlantic Records months later. January 31, 2017 – Cardi B Guest Stars On BET’s Being Mary Jane Belcalis proved she can do more than spit one liners and hilarious quips on reality TV when she became a a guest star on BET‘s Being Mary Jane. The Bardi Gang was no doubt filled with joy when Cardi killed it as the loud and outspoken fictional character “Mercedes” for an episode in season four. Nice! June 2017 – Cardi B and Offset Start Dating As Her Career Takes Off! 2017 was truly the year things came together for Bardi. Months before she released the song that would go on to change her life, rumors began to swirl that Cardi and Migos rapper, Offset, were an item. Prior to that point, the duo had teamed up for a track called Lick. The pair coyly denied their relationship at first, but by May of that year, Kulture Kiari Cephus‘ parents made their MET Gala debut together, all but confirming their relationship. Offset went on to publicly propose to his love on October 27 that same year, at the Power 99 Powerhouse concert in Philadelphia. It was revealed later that they tied the knot in a secret ceremony. Their union proved to be as important to Cardi’s personal life as it was to her musical career. The duo would go on to collaborate several times more on chart-topping tracks like Motorsport, Drip, Who Want The Smoke? and Clout. Speaking on her professional and personal relationship with Offset, Cardi previously told The Fader: “It’s been a blessing, me meeting him and meeting his friends. I see how hard they work. And that motivated me to work even harder. And I see how good things are going for them and how popping it is to be number one. And I’m like, I want that. A lot of people just see they jewelry and they money, but I don’t think a lot of people see how hard they work for that shit every single day.” Their personal relationship would go on to encounter some bumps down the road — including nearly divorcing each other at one point in 2018 — but ultimately survive and thrive. On July 10, 2018, the couple welcomed their first child together, a baby girl named Kulture. We have a feeling these two aren’t done making music (and babies!) anytime soon. June 16, 2017 – The Release Of Bodak Yellow The single that did it all! Atlantic Records drops Cardi’s first commercial single, Bodak Yellow (Money Moves) and it quickly made its way to the top of the Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart just one month later. The hard-hitting, bad bitch anthem was hard not to love, and could be heard blaring from just about every speaker possible the summer it came out. When the song reached number one, it made Belcalis the first solo female rapper to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in nearly 20 years. The last woman to do it was Lauren Hill in 1998 with Doo-Wop (That Thing). But despite the single’s monumental success, many were concerned that our girl would be a one-hit wonder once the hype died down. What came next — including scoring two Grammy nominations for Best Rap Song Best Rap Performance for the single — proved that Cardi is in fact here to stay! 2018-Present: ‘Invasion Of Privacy’, A Baby, Coachella & More! January 2018 – Bruno Mars & Cardi B Team Up For Finesse (Remix) The crossover pop hit certainly helped make Cardi B a household name and showcase her mainstream appeal. Her verse on the track is fun and in your face, while Bruno Mars delivers the funk and soul. The old school ’90s beat and accompanying visuals mixed with the entertainers’ natural chemistry together made for certified Billboard success! April 6, 2018 – Invasion Of Privacy Is Released The success of Cardi’s debut studio album proved she was a commercial force to be reckoned with! Although it was more of a hip-hop album than anything else, it expertly put the rapper’s many talents (including singing!) on display while telling her come up story, straight from the heart. Invasion Of Privacy debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, and sold 255,000 equivalent album units overall in its first week. Check out more impressive records broken by the debut album: 100 million streams on Apple Music within its first week setting the record for most first-week plays for a female artist (previously held by Taylor Swift). Apple Music’s fifth most streamed album of all time. I Like It helped make Cardi the first woman to have three number one singles (including Girls Like You and Motorsport) on the Billboard chart. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Cardi currently has the most simultaneous Billboard U.S. Hot 100 entries by a woman — a record previously held by Beyoncé! April 16, 2018 – Bardi Brings Her Baby Bump To Coachella! Unlike festival headliner Beyoncé, the Bartier Cardi rapper didn’t let her pregnancy stop her from tearing up her first set ever at Coachella in 2018. The high-energy performance was full of twerking and multiple surprise guest appearances, including G-Eazy, Chance The Rapper, 21 Savage and Kehlani, from start to finish! April 19, 2018 – TIME Names Cardi B As One Of The 100 Most Influential People Just days after Cardi lit up the stage at Coachella, it was announced that she scored a spot on the 2018 TIME‘s Most Influential List. For the special issue, the publication uses another high-profile star to speak on behalf of the honoree. In this case, Empire star Taraji P. Henson shared what she thought made Cardi a breakout star, and then quickly a household name. The Golden Globe winning actress wrote: “When her mixtape came out, I thought, That’s it. She found it! She’s clear on her talent, and she’s not trying to get in anybody else’s lane. She recorded “Bodak Yellow” because it’s what she loved. Now she’s the biggest thing in music. And even with all those eyeballs watching, she’s still unapologetically herself. Cardi B’s here to stay, baby, and I’m happy to be a witness.” It’s clear that Cardi B’s transparency and authentic realness is celebrated! September 2018 – Cardi B Announces A Collaboration With Fashion Nova We know our girl loves her some Money, and her collaboration with the internet’s largest fast fashion brand brought her plenty of it! Considering how her peers like Rihanna and Beyoncé have also used their star power to venture into the fashion industry, we gotta say, this was a major move by Cardi. It paid off too, as a second collaboration between the two debuted on FN.com on May 8, 2019. January 23, 2019 – Cardi B Lands Her First Las Vegas Residency 2019 kicked off with some pretty amazing news for the Drip rapper. It was announced that she would begin a new residency at day and nightclub KAOS at the Palms Casino Resort in Vegas in April. Other exciting artists like G-Eazy, Skrillex and Kaskade also have residencies at the Sin City hot spot. February 3, 2019 – The Pepsi Super Bowl Commercial Starring Steve Carell And Cardi B! It’s hard to name a bigger televised moment than the NFL Super Bowl (and its highly-anticipated commercials). So, when Kulture‘s mother scored a primetime spot with the event’s largest, longtime sponsor Pepsi — alongside Steve Carell — it became crystal clear that Cardi’s star cache had reached new levels. Even still, the choice to participate in any part of the national football league’s biggest night was met with criticism and backlash from fans who felt Cardi should’ve known better. Especially considering her staunch, vocal support of Colin Kapernick‘s controversial open protest against racial injustice and police brutality that was challenged by the NFL. But Cardi did turn down the offer to perform alongside Maroon 5 at the halftime show for their single, Girls Like You, so shouldn’t that count for something? You tell us, Perezcious readers! February 10, 2019 – Invasion Of Privacy Earns Multiple Grammy Nods …And Wins Big! The entertainer’s debut album Invasion Of Privacy won Best Rap Album at the 61st Grammy Awards, beating out Mac Miller (Swimming), Nipsey Hussle (Victory Lap), Pusha T (Daytona) and Travis Scott (Astroworld) for the precious award! The achievement made her the first female solo artist to win a Grammy for Best Rap Album. She celebrated with a rousing performance of her singles that same night. The Recording Academy recognized Cardi with five nominations on the night, including Album Of The Year, Best Rap Performance (Be Careful), Song Of The Year (I Like It) and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her Maroon 5 collab on Girls Like You. A major, major career milestone indeed! And we have to say, we absolutely loved the bold, vintage Mugler red carpet number (above)! What’s Next For Cardi B? March 2019 – Cardi Files A Trademark For ‘Okurrr’ It was reported that Bardi filed paperwork with the United States Patent and Trademark Office this year to trademark her signature phrase — with two different spellings — so it could be used for “clothing, namely, T-shirts, sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts, pants, shorts, jackets, footwear, headgear, namely, hats and caps, blouses, bodysuits, dresses, jumpsuits, leggings, skirts, sweaters, undergarments.” But a source exclusively shared with us that Broadway actress Laura Bell Bundy beat her to it, and filed the same paper work months prior with the intention of giving all proceeds to charity. A judge has yet to rule in favor of either woman’s petition, but we are feeling the idea of more Cardi merch in general though! We can’t wait to see what kind of apparel our girl comes up with on her own! March 2019 – Cardi Inks A Deal To Star In Her First Feature Film Called Hustlers BIG, big news! Cardi is set to appear in a film called Hustlers, co-produced by her costar Jennifer Lopez. The project is about a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients. How? By drugging and robbing them while knocked out. Yep! A powerhouse cast of strong women including Constance Wu, Riverdale‘s Lili Reinhart, Julia Stiles, and Keke Palmer will join is expected to begin production in April in New York City. We can’t wait to see her on the big screen! May 8, 2019 – A Second Collaboration With Fashion Nova And Cardi B The second FNxCardi collection did remarkably better than the first, bringing in $1 million in the first 24 hours of being on sale! Despite ordering nearly five times the amount of inventory for “Season 2” of the 107-piece spring/summer collection, the fast-fashion company struggled to meet early demand as the majority of pieces  already sold out instantly after launch. It’s clear the people want more of your unique fashionable taste, Cardi! May 2019 – Cardi Keeps Winning More Billboard Music Awards Cardi B lead all nominees at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards with a whopping 21 nominees in 18 categories, just a few nods shy of tying the record set by Drake and The Chainsmokers, who each scored 22 noms in 2017. The rapper took home six trophies, winning in the categories for Top Rap Female Artist and Top Rap Song (I Like It), while her feature on Maroon 5‘s Girls Like You snagged the Top Hot 100 Song, Top Selling Song, Top Radio Song and Top Collaboration awards. Congratulations, girl! In a recent interview with ET, Cardi B coyly hinted at plans of venturing into beauty industry (Kylie Jenner, watch out!) and other unnamed projects in the works. When asked about the future of her brand, she confidently told the outlet: “I see everything. I feel like I can accomplish anything and everything. So it’s just like… whatever I set my mind to do, I can do it. Whatever it is.” We’ll continue to keep our eyes peeled for more career updates from the desk of Cardi B! In the meantime, let’s enjoy… Some Of Cardi B’s Best Instagrams   Thoughts, Perezcious readers? What’s your favorite career moment from our list? Moments like this – when the collective rap community gets to see someone’s meteoric rise culminate into that world-stopping drop of a debut album – are rare but they make being a fan worth all the trouble. There’s nothing like being a part of something so big, even if your role is nothing more than perusing the Twitter timeline and going back and forth with followers about your individual opinions. A lot of people didn’t think Cardi B would make it to this moment. Maybe some even hoped that she wouldn’t. The Bronx native made the most seamless transition from social media star, to reality TV star, to rap star in history. But the key word in all of those phases of her career is star. Cardi has a quality and an essence that can’t be confined to any singular path. She’s a natural entertainer and we’re all here to enjoy the ride. That’s why the stakes for her debut album Invasion of Privacy are some of the highest in recent rap history.
The question now is, is Invasion of Privacy actually good? We’d been witnesses to Cardi’s growth with her Gangsta Bitch Music mixtape series, as she worked through the growing pains of finding her sound. It’s where she flexed her muscles on songs like “Foreva” and “Lick,” slowly transforming into an artist who now dominates Billboard charts. Known for her transparency and her ability to be completely unhinged, we were privy to her personal life in ways that became even too much for her. Invasion of Privacy is an honest debut from a rapper who built a brand on being “regular,” even if she’s not so regular anymore.
Noisey staff writers Lawrence Burney and Kristin Corry break down Invasion of Privacy track-by-track upon first listen, and here were their first impressions.
“Get Up 10”
Lawrence: “Went from making tuna sandwiches to making the news” is a rags-to-riches analogy that I can fully conceptualise. This is a textbook way to start a career-defining rap album. Cardi spends a quarter of the song reliving the days she had to get through to make it to this moment before making a Tee Grizzley by-way-of Meek Milly shift in gears. If you’re going to make a statement, you have to plant your flag firmly into the ground and stand on those words. Whether you live up to them or not is irrelevant for that brief initiation, but Cardi sends a convincing warning.
Kristin: I’m totally here for the “Dreams & Nightmares” feel of it, I just worry that she’s going to end up sounding like everybody but Cardi. It’s a great way to start a debut, and we’ve seen that these introspective intros work well. Cardi adapts well to whatever flow she wants to adopt for the moment. She owned Kodak’s flow on “Bodak” and is damn near a fourth Migo on “Drip.” I want to hear Cardi sound like Cardi. It’s admirable that she wanted to tap into what made Meek’s intro so good, but also feels like she sort’ve does a disservice to herself by trying to emulate that sound so much. I’m completely a fan of when the beat switches it up toward the end though.
“Drip”
Kristin: This isn’t a bad song, but I think I would have appreciated this more on Culture II.
Lawrence: This may be one of my least favourite Cardi B songs. I’d actually like less songs of her with Migos on it. The album would have been just fine without this.
“Bickenhead”
Kristin: Well Lawrence, you were right about the Project Pat sample. At a glance, I was hoping this was the track YG would be on. I’m sold on her flip of the song though. The best part about Cardi is her ability to redefine the labels society forces on her and make them her own. Now everybody’s Instagram caption is going to be “bickenhead,” which is dope because in 2001 that wasn’t the greatest thing for a woman to be called. The true test of a bop for me is if I spend more time singing it than I spend doing my makeup. This is going to pass with flying colours.
Lawrence: LONG LIVE TRIPLE 6 MAFIA. There’s really no way that Cardi could lose here by sampling Project Pat’s “Chickenhead” because what’s continuing to become abundantly clear is that anything produced by DJ Paul and Juicy J will defy generational barriers. I mean, Crunchy Black used to seem like a problem from time to time. But anyway, what Cardi is doing here is perfect because while she didn’t snag La Chat for this song like I wished, her list of ways to “pop the pussy” feels like an ode to another Chat classic in “Slob On My Cat.”
Kristin: We get it, Lawrence. Triple 6 til you die.
“Bodak Yellow”
Lawrence: We all obviously love this song. “Bodak Yellow” dominated the summer. I remember seeing Cardi perform this at Moma PS1 and it was the most congested crowd I’ve ever been a part of. Like, if something would have popped off that day, a minimum of ten people would have gotten trampled. Hearing “Bodak Yellow” in that setting, with that kind of collective excitement is one of my favourite hip-hop moments of all time. Within the context of the album, I like that it comes after “Bickenhead” because it keeps the high energy going, then it immediately shifts gears with “Be Careful.” That shows Cardi’s range.
Kristin: Every time the beat drops, I ask myself “Am I over this song?” Like clockwork, it still catches me the same way as it did the first time I heard it. I was worried that it may not fit well with the rest of the album, but I think it’s the opposite. “Bodak” was really able to set the tone for what we should’ve expected for her debut album, and I think it’s safe to say she’s delivered.
“Be Careful”
Lawrence: When this track first dropped, there was a lot of chatter about how different it is than “Bodak Yellow” but I’m not sure where people developed the notion that Cardi B is only capable of one kind of song. While everyone’s been screaming about their bloody shoes she’s been rapping over New Jack Swing beats and singing in Spanish on dancehall tracks. What’s also good about the song is that it feels like it could have worked during any rap era of the past 25 years. Cardi’s shedding layers of herself to share details of her relationship but also warning that she might not stick around for repeated trauma. Those kinds of songs have been staples for some time.
Kristin: I honestly really love this song. People are saying she shouldn’t be singing on the hook and that she’s offbeat, but honestly that’s apart of what I love about Cardi. Her delivery has always been a little clumsy, which makes it all feel a lot more real for me personally. The same people talking shit are the same people who would praise it if her male counterparts put this song out. If we’re being honest, “Be Careful” is better than A Boogie’s “Get to You” which both borrow from Lauryn Hill’s “Ex-Factor.” She had me at the Belly reference, but most importantly, it feels like New York in the summer. Real New York, not transplant New York.
My concern here though, is the talk about the reference track that was posted shortly after the single dropped. It’s no secret people have ghostwriters but I couldn’t help listen to the rest of the album wondering what she actually wrote. It’s probably also naive of me to think everyone writes everything, but it’s something to consider. Accusations of ghostwriters haven’t hurt Drake and shouldn’t hurt her either. The way her personal life has played out in front of us makes this song feel incredibly intimate, so if it’s true, hearing Pardison Fontaine on the reference track was a little disappointing. I want to believe Offset got her mad enough to the point where these are her words.
“Best Life”
Kristin: I’m stoked she got a Chance feature, but it sounds like he didn’t give his all on this hook. Have that same energy you had on Life of Pablo or any other project your attach your name to. The hook feels a little lazy coming from him, especially if we’re comparing it to his verse, which is as chipper as you get with Chance. When he says, “I work magic, I work magic, I work magic in my life,” I feel Pastor Chance coming back out, putting an anointing on me. If we’re talking about living our best life, let’s have higher energy.
Lawrence: I agree on Chance’s contribution on the hook. That’s especially apparent after the energy Cardi comes in with on her first verse. But, I do enjoy Chance’s verse a lot. Cardi’s tuna-to-TV analogy for “making it” was great but Chance came in with “‘Member my hands had ash like Pompeii,” and changed the game. This song’s value lies in Cardi’s openness about how being in the public eye has affected her. From the self-consciousness about her teeth before getting them fixed, to how meeting Beyonce is a marker of really arriving. Rappers open up about these struggles often but what makes it resonate more here is that we’ve been able to see Cardi take many of the steps that she’s mentioning.
Kristin: I agree. Listening to her say, “I never had a problem showing y’all the real me/Hair when it’s fucked up, crib when it’s filthy.” I can literally pinpoint the moments she looked like she rolled out of bed chatting to her fans, with no fucks given. It’s that transparency that make people really root for her. She’s the antithesis to the perfectly packaged persona people post on socials. We literally watched her grow from a local sensation to BARDI. I love this “Binderella” reference and sort of wish that was her album title.
“I Like It”
Kristin: Haha, Cardi really does search her name on Twitter. She definitely ran that “Yup, they call me Cardi B, I run this shit like cardio” tweet on here. And this is exactly what I meant on the Chance song, J Balvin and Bad Bunny came with energy! Treat it like it’s your song, don’t just give some leftover melodies.
Lawrence: This will be blasted at every party in New York City this summer and I cannot wait.
Kristin: Practicing my bachata as we speak.
“Ring”
Kristin: I just find it funny that people criticised her for singing her own hook on “Be Careful,” suggesting that Kehlani or SZA should’ve done the honour instead… Kehlani is on the hook of this and it’s not nearly as strong of a song. Now what?
Lawrence: This one is fine and I’ve accepted that I will probably be hearing it on the radio all the time.
Kristin: I’m not into it. If we’re going with the ghostwriter theory, I think this is the official “Offset song” but “Be Careful” was the smarter and catchier choice to capitalise on the drama. This is all speculation though.
“Money Bag”
Kristin: This is definitely the closest she’s gotten to something that’s felt similar to “Bodak.” If I had a dollar for every time I’ll see “I said babe, issa snack/He say it’s an entree” on Instagram this summer, my loans would be forgiven. Nodding to Plies and Beyonce in a hook is pretty much the perfect way to make sure the song is a hit on social media, and she knows that. All of her eccentric confessionals on Love & Hip Hop have been preparing us for this moment. She really stretches her voice for that it’s worth here. It’s the perfect amount of extra. Also, money bags in general is always a big mood. OKURR!
Lawrence: When the song first started, I thought I’d be skipping it within the first 30 seconds. But then Cardi hit a gear that took the song to a new level. Like you said, in flow, it does follow the footsteps of “Bodak Yellow” at points. But the range that Cardi spans in energy here pushes it further.
“Bartier Cardi”
Lawrence: I enjoy how ferocious Cardi gets with the flow on this song. It’s always felt like with this one, she had a point to prove and it worked. 21’s tone of voice alone is why his verse isn’t a complete wash but he didn’t bring his best to this one at all.
Kristin: I still enjoy this song and I think it does a good job of keeping the momentum of what could now be considered Cardi’s sound. I actually like 21 on here, regardless of the questionable things he says he does with hot sauce.
“She Bad”
Kristin: YG you were supposed to be on “Bickenhead!” I personally would’ve preferred Yo Gotti on this hook. Cardi’s definitely in her bag here and throwing some subliminals. So I expect this one to be making its rounds with speculation on who they’re aimed for. Of course they could be empty insults, but we know for women in hip-hop it doesn’t work like that. I’m crying at YG’s “Only Birkin, not Dooney & Burke” line. A few people listening just pushed their Dooney collection all the way to the back of their closet.
Lawrence: This is another one out of Three 6 Mafia’s book of flows. Like the majority of songs that came before it, “She Bad” has the potential to be a smash hit – if anything, it will be another mainstay at parties and clubs for the rest of this year. YG has an uncanny ability to make effective hooks while not saying very much. That gift, joined with the production’s tempo and Cardi’s flow make this one worth revisiting.
“Thru Your Phone”
Kristin: This hook is… interesting. Lana Del Rey vibes? But damn, this song is petty as hell. Did she really just say, “I’ma make a bowl of cereal with a teaspoon of bleach/Serve it to you like, here you go nigga bon appetit.” Okay, Eminem. This is the song I want to see a visual for the most. Show me Cardi cutting the tongues out of sneakers and smashing televisions.
Offset, watch your back bruh.
Lawrence: The lesson here is very, extremely clear. Guys: do not cheat. Unless you want bleach cereal.
“I Do”
Kristin: Two queens talking shit. I stan. It’s also cool as hell that we watched this collaboration materialise. The definition of “Twitter, do ya thing.” I sort’ve wish there was more to the album after this, considering “Bodak Yellow” and “Bardier Carti” were played to death. Disclaimer: If your text goes unanswered it’s because SZA and Cardi told me to do it.
Lawrence: I love this song (SZA, sing over more trap please!), but its energy begs for it to be somewhere in the middle of the album. Invasion of Privacy ending on this note makes it feel incomplete. I’m so amped that I’m ready to come down a bit before I dip out. But, in consideration of the album’s title, Cardi delivered. Historically, she’s given us a lot of access into her life on social media. And by her sharing her experiences in the kind of detail that she does, I’m left to interpret it as: “Y’all are already in my business, making speculations, so I might as well just be the one to bare it all. Here is my truth.” Isn’t that what we want from all of our artists? At least, the ones we want to remember? We want an invitation into their innermost feelings – no matter how that may eat away at them – in order for us to be able to feel connected to them.
