Ginathon Episodes: Episode 212 (With a little addition)
Kerry follows Gina, pointing out that she hadn't been given an assignment or beat in the briefing. Gina tells her she wants her to work on an assault case that has been waiting to be completed and presented to the CPS. Kerry assumes it's an excuse to keep her from the other uniform officers. "Now why would I want to do that?" Gina asks. "Because of The Smithy Thing?" Gina reminds her she's going to have to decide whether or not to make it official and Kerry tells her she hasn't yet. Gina tells her she can't put it off forever and that she wants her to do the job she's given her in the meantime.
Andrea presses Kerry to find out if the allegation has been made official. Kerry says she's being punished by being kept in because 'she dared to make an allegation'. Do these people not look behind themselves before they bitch? ESPECIALLY when it's about Gina?
Gina interrupts them and continues through to the front office where she finds Adam. She updates him there's still no information from Kerry about if she's going to make the allegation official. Later Kerry finds herself alone as everyone not-so-subtly leaves the canteen table she joins. Tony and Gary make themselves clear they believe Smithy and that Kerry is being cruel holding him to ransom by not giving him chance to clear his name by making it official or telling people that it isn't true once and for all.
(As an aside for @everythingisdragons this is an episode featuring Don Beech as Neil's informant for an armed robbery. It's the first episode for DI Peter Cavanaugh from NCIS (Pronounced Ensis. National Criminal Intelligence Squad, not the naval drama.). He has Honey, Sam and Debbie all batting their eyelashes at him. "I think I've just fallen in love!" Honey whimpers at her first sight of Peter. )
Kerry takes the case that Gina asked her to work to Jonathan. She tells him that the defendants and victims are as bad as each other and have records for similar crimes. A witness saw the attack but couldn't say who started it. Kerry suggests the whole thing be NFA'd and due to lack of helpful evidence Jonathan agrees.
(Jack is FURIOUS when Peter tells him about Neil's information from Don Beech. Neil explains that Don was his Sgt (Don arrived at Sun Hill in 95/Series 11. If Neil is Andrew's age he'd have been 20-23.) Jack wants to hand it over to NCIS because he wants nothing to do with anything that Don is involved in but Neil insists Sun Hill have done the groundwork so should see it out. Peter suggests he stick around to 'help out'. Okaro agrees as Peter has more information on Trevor Little (an Australian criminal that Don works with whilst he was on the run). Can Debbie and Sam be more obvious?🤣)
Jonathan sits in on a conversation between Jack, Peter and Neil with regards to the armed robbery and what they suspect might happen when Trevor Little makes his next move. Jack suspects Don could be in on the robbery and spinning a yarn to take the police focus away from what is really happening. Neil doesn't think Don would do that but Peter admits it is a possibility. Jonathan tells them that they're not just looking at information coming from a bent copper but also someone with a serious criminal record with no sign of contrition. If they were to proceed and the case made it to court, it would have to be a confidential disclosure as to where the information came from. Neil suspects that Jack is only holding back on acting on the case and using the full CID department because Don is involved. Jack reminds him he doesn't have a clue what game Don is playing and warns him to never question a decision he's made again. There's always a price when it comes to Don.
Honey: It's about time we got a bit of talent around here, innit!
Debbie: "There's been a mini influx of male totty lately. I wouldn't say no to Jonathan Fox."
Honey: "That old bloke from the CPS? You're having a laugh aren't ya? But then again I guess he is more your age..."
(Don tells Neil that if he agrees he owes him one, he'll give him everything - the time, the place, the hit. Neil thinks about it and agrees. "It's tomorrow, 10.30, near Butler's Wharf." "And the hit?" "Gems, diamonds... enough for you and half of London to retire on.")
Gina questions Jonathan to find out if he read the entire file that Kerry presented to him. He admits he only listened to what Kerry said and worked from that because she said there was insufficient evidence. Gina points out that her team spent a huge amount of time on the case and says the detailed witness statements and defendants records were more than enough to push it over the line. Jonathan suggests that perhaps Kerry didn't present the evidence in the best light. "Well I think it's still worth pursuing!!!" Gina says firmly. "And I agree with you." Gina's had the wind knocked out of her sails somewhat, having expected more of a fight. "...What?" He promises to look at it again and see what they can do. "Well don't you do me any favours, Mr Fox!" "No favours, it's my job." he says reasonably. "Right! Well! ...Thank you very much!" Gina flusters, fumbling almost with his door before making a quick exit.
Gina calls Kerry to her office before she leaves. She tells her what Jonathan told her about Kerry not presenting the case correctly and calls her out on doing it on purpose because she was made to remain in the station. She tells her Smithy is returning tomorrow so she wants her final answer about the allegation by then.
Jonathan spots Debbie leaving and invites her to go with him for a drink rather than the gym. Debbie agrees as Gina watches them, looking absolutely gutted.

I've started dipping into Emmerdale a bit more again this week and I don't know whether you agree, but I feel Lucy's hatred and lack of belief in the Al affair really shows in her performance in the aftermath. The powerful performances from her are really missing, especially when you consider how strong she usually is as an actor, and part of me wonders if it's because she finds it OOC for Chas. (though I think she and the producers believed Chaddy were a golden couple and you know how I feel about that!!!)
I haven't really read anything from her about the story but I can see what you mean. If she doesn't like the story, that makes sense. I said after Thursday that I wished there had been more fireworks in the reveal and that it all just felt kind of sad now but I think you might be on to something about Lucy's performance. It is a little lackluster.
It feels a bit like Natalie J Robb in the aftermath of the Nate affair reveal where Moira was just like "I don't know why I cheated" and it felt really strongly like Natalie didn't know either and that the whole story was ridiculous.
Except this story with Chas has been a long time coming for me. I mean once upon a time when the first spoiler about Chas and Paddy maybe getting back together came out, I thought, that could be fun perhaps. Aaron's parents getting together. Chas had seemingly come a long way since those days when they were last attempting to date. In 2016/early 2017, Chas was at her peak. She was a not only a pretty good character, she had become a better parent to Aaron and she had been a good friend to Paddy for years. It seemed like it could work.
Of course they immediately killed it with all that cursed nonsense and then the six month break followed by her just throwing herself at him and it seeming like Paddy was settling for her when he really wanted Rhona back. Then they were pretty much doomed. And then cue the Grace story which absolutely destroyed them for me even more. Like I know everyone outside of this fandom sees that story as this super tragic time for Chas and Paddy and I mean, sure, it was. It was an awful thing to go through but that's where Chas started majorly backsliding as a character.
She started becoming very "me me me" again but in a way that she could justify and moralize because she was experiencing this tragedy and trauma, but it's not something she afforded to anyone else. She was terrible to Charity after everything she was going through with Bails. She was terrible to Aaron after Robert went to prison. She was terrible to Paddy after Grace died because he wasn't grieving the way she wanted him to. It was all about her and what she wanted and needed and everyone else be damned.
I was glad Paddy brought up that they should have ended things after Grace because he was right. She treated him like garbage then. And then after Eve was born and they did that whole thing of Paddy leaving her in the car because he needed to take Marlon to the hospital, she was horrible to him then too when he already felt bad enough. And we had the whole lockdown episode where it seemed like there was no real way forward for them. They did the first almost affair with her and Al. And then truly she just became a selfish hypocritical monster even more than she ever had before.
She always acted annoyed by Paddy's mere presence. He was basically just an inconvenience to her. Her behavior towards Charity after the break up with Vanessa and her sleeping with Al once was horrible. She forced her out of her business and tried to kick her out of the family several times. Lisa dying was the worst thing for Chas because it kind of gave her license to step up and be the head of the Dingles because let's be honest, Cain never wanted the job. Just the way she treated Paddy, Charity, Aaron, Liv, Faith etc was awful.
And she was truly horrible with Faith at the end. Just the amount of times she pushed Faith to do something she didn't want to do just because Chas wanted it for selfish reasons was terrible. She never wanted to listen to what Faith wanted and needed because everything was always all about her.
Everything leading up to this downfall for Chas has been well earned and for me, entirely in character if we're basing it on the last five years. Like maybe 2016 Chas wouldn't have done this but she hasn't been that character in a long time.
I don't know, like people keep trying to point out that everyone else has cheated too, and that's true, but it's not so much the affair but all of Chas's behavior surrounding it and for the last few years that just make it all so much worse.
But Chas not being able to be content with safe and dependable and always needing something/someone more exciting and sabotaging a good thing to get it, consequences be damned? That's exactly Chas's character. It just took her longer to come back to that. Such is the nature of Soap, sure, but also I still feel like it's completely in character.
This is a very long rant. Haha. Sorry. I have a lot of feelings about Chas's character clearly.
But back to the original question, I can definitely see what you mean. I agree, I do think she thought the Chaddy partnership was great. Perhaps because she felt like Chas had grown as a character or because she just liked working with Dom. So I feel like maybe it's hard to let this go and that shows in her performance. I wonder if it will get better if they eventually have Chas trying to make real amends and acknowledging all of the wrong she's done lately. Perhaps she'll like that journey better.

Eve Dallas is called in when popular actor Brent Fitzhugh dies after drinking a cyanide-laced cocktail at the party he and his equally popular actress wife, Eliza Lane, put on for about two hundred friends, coworkers, and media. But was Brent the actual target?
I enjoyed the bits of humor and soft shoutouts throughout this book. The gentle jibes at the romantic Christmas movies shown on Hallmark. Which, considering Nora Roberts is a romance writer, had me giggling. Plus the subject of the fictional play "Upstage" reminds me so much of "Gypsy" and somewhat "Daisy Clover" about a young female actor with an overbearing mother. Both had film versions starring Natalie Wood, a young female actor who had an overbearing mother and was known to take pills and drink to excess. And whose death, although originally declared to be an accident, has since been changed to suspicious.
As to this installment in the In Death series, I was happy to see a more old school feel to the murder mystery, no cults and no sex or science/tech crimes. Just a "normal" murder. As usual, Robb's characters are strong, layered, and fascinating. The plot was equally enjoyable. I had a good time reading, which is all I could ask for. Catching up with the people in Eve's life just adds the spice I love.

Smiffina Episodes - Episode 259
The relief are reeling from Gabriel's confession, gossiping in the corridor after briefing.
Andrea doesn't buy it, saying it's not possible. Steve says you can't rule anything out given Kerry's latest behaviour. Smithy watches on silently as Gabriel approaches the group. Honey asks how long they'd been together and Gabriel says not long and that Kerry asked him to keep it quiet because she knew people would talk. Andrea spots Smithy watching and asks him what he thinks about the situation. He won't be drawn, stating only that they have work to do and should get on with it.
Gabriel continues to refuse time off, leading to Gina asking June to keep Gabriel with her that day. Gabriel tells June he's happy to be paired with her as he thinks that the relief don't believe him.
Gina speaks to Adam about Gabriel and Kerry and Adam confirms it - much to her shock. Her next unhappy job is to tell Smithy that, sadly, what Gabriel says is true and that they have to tell the relief that it's true for damage limitation. Smithy still can't believe it.
Smithy is tasked with telling the relief (you'd think that even Gina would want to do that over him given the circumstances!). Gina places Gabriel on the front desk because "he had a little wibbly wobbly whilst out with June and it's best to keep an eye on him." Smithy nods and mutters once Gina has walked off "I'll certainley be doing that..."
June is putting in her resignation to Gina, telling her she's going for early retirement and is working her four weeks notice. Gabriel's shocked to hear that a young underage girl who is pregnant has run away to an abortion clinic. He's horrified and doesn't think the girl deserves the privelage to decide whether her baby lives or dies (!) Smithy tells him to keep his nose out and June literally runs after him and tries - unsuccessfully - to stop him speeding out of the yard. Gabriel confronts the father and physically assaults him, threatening him to find out where his girlfriend is. "What gives you the right?!" he spits, going off to try and stop the girl.
Smithy and Andrea are tasked with finding Gabriel as he hasn't taken a radio with him so can't be tracked. Gabriel tells Kara she doesn't have the right to have the abortion once he tracks her down and she sobs that he's too late.He turns and starts throwing the nearby bins and medical trolleys, forcing Kara to run away. Smithy and Andrea find Gabriel soon after and Smithy forces him up onto his feet. Gabriel is dazed and rambling, saying if only Kerry had told him he could have protected her and his son would still be alive. At the station, Gabriel tells June he would have been a good father, he'd have given his son anything he wanted. He tells June he knows how much being a grandmother would mean to her - June spits that she is not his mother and tells him to get a grip.
Disturbed by what she saw outside the clinic, Andrea visits Smithy with the intention of them working out what is really happening with Gabriel. Smithy asks her to spit out what she suspects and she chickens out, telling him its probably nothing, leaving the room.
Smithy hunts her down and asks her again, knowing that she's keeping something from her. Andrea is forced to tell him the truth - Kerry told her that Gabriel raped her, leaving Smithy in shock.
