the first character I ever fell in love with: Lola! She stole my heart in the pilot with this scene where she points out exactly WHY she and Mary aren’t in a position to be friends.

a character that I used to love/like, but now do not: hmm, I mostly went the other way around? I liked some developments more than others, but I never grew to DISLIKE anybody. I guess maybe Bash? He was never one of my faves, but at one point I found him interesting enough and then he was just... there lmao.

a ship that I used to love/like, but now do not: same as above tbh. I took basically all ships for what they were, one way or the other, so when things went South I took it at face value. IDK if I’m explaining myself right lmfao. But it didn’t matter to me what progression ships like Kennash, Frary, Monde, Catcisse, etc. etc. went through, I enjoyed the story.

my ultimate favourite character™: this is one of the hardest shows you could ever ask me this lmfao. During the course of the show I’ve had FIVE favourite characters, taking turns xDD. If I was forced to choose I’d guess I’d go with Catherine, whose ending pleases me more than the others and who was a joy to follow from beginning to end.

prettiest character: another complicated one xD. Have you seen the women in this show?? (the men had... nice personalities lmfao. Except Condé. Condé was pretty). Marie de Guise had swagger, Kenna was flat out gorgeous, Lola and Claude were adorbs, Catherine had IT... And ofc, Mary. I love love love her face. It can be argued I wouldn’t have liked her character so much if I hadn’t found her so pretty, given my track record with protagonists of her ilk xDD

my most hated character: idk what it says about me that it’s Castleroy. Fuck that guy.

my OTP: Catherine/Narcisse.

my NOTP: Castleroy/Greer.

favourite episode: have a list of candidates here, because there’s no way I’m picking just one.

saddest death: Francis, but more for Mary and Catherine than for him (I loved Francis, but I wanted them to get on with it tbh xD).

favourite season: season 2, which as I understand is one hell of a UO lmao. But I loved it! I still had all my three ladies in waiting, Catherine’s wacky storylines, all the Frary conflict, Greer as madam, my man Narcisse’s introduction... it was a fine season.

least favourite season: I guess s4? Partially is my disappointment with the finale, but it was kind of a mess, and some of the storylines irked me.

character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but I hate: Castleroy seemed to have his fans, and again: fuck that guy.

my ‘you’re a piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: well, I guess Catherine and Narcisse both had moments like this... but Lord Darnley was great fun and he was the trashiest of them all. You gotta respect that.

my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: Greer. Truly the most generous soul on the show, and her ending is made to be so unimportant ugh.

my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but I still love it’ ship: eh. I was here for the Henry ships, for Darnley/Mary... I guess those are the ones that get to wrongship levels.

my ‘they’re kind of cute, and I lowkey ship them, but I’m not too invested’ ship: Greer/James, Claude/Luc, Dudley/Elizabeth, any Greer/Lola/Kenna combo, Lola/Francis (she was so not into him lmfao)... all of these were enjoyable, one way or another.

“Oh, how I wish I could say I was happy to be here, but much like Francis, I'm absolutely miserable. How could I possibly forgive Reign when they took the long and winding road to this by forcing a love triangle out of "Monde"?

Frankly, I cannot, and watching Reign Season 2 Episode 20 with Mary's stupidity being the final push for Conde's attempt to claim the throne of France on the series only further cements my decision to part ways with it as must-see TV.

.....Who could have guessed I'd arrive just as they single handedly crushed every single successful relationship on the show? I suppose given how easily they murdered what Francis and Mary shared, I shouldn't have been surprised, but wow. This is really wiping the slate clean.

It's true that Reign Season 1 was a sexy show. It worked in a lot of ways because the core group of ladies hadn't tasted true love. They were extremely unfamiliar with court and the life they were thrust into. That's not the case now. What's going on now makes them seem like whores.

Tell me Kenna's dream wasn't almost exactly like what she did with Sexy King Henry. Mary whined about her rank destroying any love coming her way that didn't belong to a king. Guess what lady, you were married. You weren't supposed to be toying on the side anymore. That's how marriage works.

Greer's decision to remain a madam is completely unrealistic given the times, but not surprising given the chemistry between Leith and Claude. You knew they were going there. Additionally, it's fun to see life outside the castle no matter how unrealistic and with as much as the women want a voice, well, she has one. She'd just never opt for it over respectability.

Even Catherine has diminished into an embarrassing woman when it comes to Narcisse. He pegged her exactly, but not until he played her game by humiliating the only woman left in court we can really root for (although Claude has risen in the ranks) with a silly nudie drawing. Who ever thought I'd say Lola deserves better? She's come a long way.

Way back when, when I was reviewing Reign, I was taking a lot of heat for being down on "Monde" as the shippers so loved to call them. My take was historical Conde made an attempt on Francis' crown and the love stuff was rubbish. I was told what to do with my blatant disregard for true love.

Well, I told you so. It doesn't look like ol' Conde is going to make his mad dash for the throne through his love for Mary, but instead through is allegiance to Protestantism and Elizabeth's last minute save of his life. He's King Louis! The face, the claim, the bloodline and nothing to lose but his life.”

Reign: The Verdict

Okay, look, first things first, obviously this show is ridiculous in a lot of ways. It’s not a Serious Grown-Up Historical Drama and I didn’t go into it expecting it to be that. I get that this approach to telling a “historical” story isn’t for everyone, but people who make a huge deal about how the costumes are blatantly historically inaccurate or whatever are so annoying to me. No kidding this show isn’t going for historical verisimilitude! That’s not a deep observation!

I really liked Mary as a character and I thought Adelaide Kane did a great job.

Favorite character: it’s practically neck-and-neck between Catherine and Narcisse, but ultimately Narcisse came out on top. I found his relationship with Lola super skeevy at first, but I came to really like it. I’m a sucker for characters who are usually cold but learn to let one (1) person into their heart and really get all warm and soft for that one person alone. I hate that he didn’t really get any closure in the final episode. I had really thought his desire to avenge Lola was going to lead to his death, which would have been sad but fitting, but as it is, I believe the last we see of him he’s just hanging out in the background, having been drugged by Emmanuelle. My dude deserved a better ending. Craig Parker is so fantastic.

As for Catherine, I love how I totally thought she was going to be the villain but she ended up being a great ally to Mary. I wasn’t a fan of that one plot (s2 I think) where she was jailed and kind of went crazy for a while. It felt...kind of insulting for a character who is usually so smart and smooth. But fortunately they let the old Catherine return eventually.

I KNEW Francis was going to return in the final episode. I just knew it. It seemed like the sort of thing this show would undoubtedly do. And I’m glad it did.

I liked Bash but—and this is kind of hard to explain—I often felt like he was supposed to be on a different show and just kind of wandered into Reign. I think this might be because he has such close ties to the mystical elements of the show, an aspect of the show that often felt out of place. So while I was sad that he didn’t return at all in person in the fourth season, the fact that he found a home with the Druids who are somehow still around in the 16th century felt fitting.

The finale was...so weird and rushed. They should have spent more time on Mary’s downfall and less time on weird satanic three-ways. Listen, I’m not opposed to shows depicting weird satanic three-ways, but you have to place them strategically, and unless they’re integral to the plot of the show, the finale is generally not the place for them. Actually, I think the show suffered from hasty pacing quite a bit. There were a lot of scenes that should have been impactful and game-changing that just happened way too fast. Like that one earthquake in s4, for example.

My dad just said something involving the name “Clarissa,” which reminded me that this show also has a tendency to introduce things that seem important but then...not do anything with them. Clarissa was introduced in such a momentous way in the first episode and then in s2 they were like oh yeah, we introduce that character, we should probably wrap up that plot...let’s just bring her back and kill her off. Claude’s storyline, also, was ultimately just neglected. Oh, and Greer! Whatever happened to Greer?!

The attempts at feminist storytelling were frequently heavy-handed, especially when it comes to John Knox, who was depicted as a total straw misogynist. Now, while I don’t know anything about the real John Knox so I can’t say how his real views stack up against the views of the character, one thing about his portrayal that I can confidently declare ridiculous is in the finale when he said something like “Men will never bow to the weaker sex.” Sure, most men throughout history have preferred to be led by a man than by a woman, but history is also full of successful female leaders, including the people at the helms of both England and Scotland in Knox’s own time, so that line just made him sound silly.

Nostradamus was awesome.

Overall grade: B

a cute, low-key ship: james and greer deserved more, i thought they were cute.

my favourite storyline/moment: the best moment was the show ending exactly the way i wanted it to, my god, that was satisfying.

I KNOW IT WAS HISTORICALLY ACCURATE BUT SINCE WHEN WERE THE REIGN WRITERS HISTORICALLY ACCURATE BEFORE THEN???

my first thoughts on the show: LOVE IT. love the characters, love the supernatural twist to a period drama, love the costumes and FRARY

my thoughts now: the show never recovered after 2x04 & im glad its over and i got my frary endgame

i’m putting all of my thoughts about the series reign on this, i probably forgot a lot of shit, but thats okay. also I’m sorry if this is very long, i have lots of opinions. scroll past!

so im on season 3 episode 7 and here are my thoughts as of this moment:

- francis is everything but also he was so controlling of mary jfc

- nostradamus is really hot

- im sad for mary that francis is dead

- frary is endgame

- but i was totally down for bash and mary to get married

- conde was so hot. i miss him already

- i was not down for the whole cheating plot line with mary

- antoine needs to chill and stop being so vengeful

- kenna is a piece of shit, i mean stop self sabotaging yourself please for the love of god

- so apparently, kenna was masterbating on the staircase in the pilot? i thought she ran out of breath from walking up all those goddamn stairs (chill, this is a joke, but i still think it's funny that she couldn't wait to get to her room)

- henry was fucking gross from the minute he walked on screen

- did everyone forget about aylee?

- poor lola, she couldve been so much more

- on the topic of lola, where tf did john philippe go? like he hasn't been in the past few episodes

- bash is so great

- i liked diane and i miss her

- leith is honestly the most tragic character in this whole show, i love him

- also the fact that mary doesn’t match with darnley’s outfits is an interesting choice

- the timeline on this show is very strange

- claude’s character development is beautiful

- the horny witch is my fav

- umm what she’s pregnant?

- nicole can suck my fucking ass fuck her stupid ass

- i wish the end wasn’t so abrupt tbh

- the last five minutes was so good, i teared up

- ugh now i feel empty inside and want to watch it again!!

ugh this show is so good, like insanely good. i feel like most of the time the characterization was wonderful. claude was my favorite, so its no surprise i like claude and leith the best. i didn’t like francis most of the time while he was alive but i missed his presence on the show. bash was an absolute gem. adelaide kane is so hot oml i died multiple times. i really enjoyed watching it!!!

the first character i ever fell in love with: Stefan, believe it or not. But now I don’t really care that much about him lol

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: Most of the characters lol. But I think the biggest example would probably be Caroline. She used to be my favorite female character on the show but now i’m just meh towards her.

a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: Forwood. I also used to ship Steferine until I realized how many consent issues there were between Katherine and human! Stefan.

my ultimate favorite character™: Bonnie Bennett. My light who deserved so much better :(

prettiest character: Bonnie!

my most hated character: TVD! Klaus. I still sometimes get war flashbacks from how much I hated him lol. I also hate Kai, but that’s partly because of his stans.

favorite episode: All of the episodes where Damon and Bonnie were trapped in the prison world together. Also “The Last Dance”.

saddest death: The majority of the characters never actually stay dead so idk. Maybe Jenna? I think Rose’s death scene was sad and well done but I wasn’t attatched to her.

favorite season: My Bamon bias wants me to say S6 but S2 was probably overall the best.

the first character i ever fell in love with: The first movie I watched was “A New Hope” and I LOVED Leia from the start. I actually thought she was going to be my fave at first but then ESB made me stan Luke.

I was expecting to be really invested in them but then they only had a few minutes of screen time together. Maybe that will change in the future but for now I prefer Finn and Rey.

Reign:

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: Bash. I don’t dislike him but I REALLY did not care much about him by the time he left the show.

a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: I still ship S1 Kennash but they became a mess in S2.

my ultimate favorite character™: Mary!

prettiest character: Mary again. Adelaide Kane is gorgeous.

my most hated character: NARCISSE. Why isn’t he dead yet?

my OTP: Idk…I don’t really have a hardcore OTP for Reign. But my favorite ship was probably Frary, even though I hate the majority of the fanbase for it lol. I also really like Cleith.

my NOTP: L*rcisse. Fuck the writers for having Narcisse be the last person Lola saw before she died.

favorite episode: 1x07. It was the first episode where we saw Mary and Catherine work as a team. And it was intense.

saddest death: Lola :( But also Francis

Theory about Reign’s final episode

So, here’s my theory about the series finale of Reign (4x16).

During the 15 or 20 last minutes, there will be a retrospective of what the characters became after Mary’s death. We will see all of them die through timejumps, starting with Mary, then Catherine etc.

So, this is how I see it happen :

• We will see Mary being put in prison by Elizabeth. Then, we’ll see perhaps 2 or 3 minutes of her time in jail like every 5 years or something. Then, there will be a black screen and Adelaide’s voice is gonna say “I spent 20 years in this room, emprisonned by my royal cousin. Then, someday, someone came to pick me and I knew I wouldn’t see another sundown”. So, Mary will be executed first. Right before the execution, she’s gonna say her mystic quote “In my end is my beginning”. Then, Adelaide Kane’s voice will narrate the rest of the episode.

• Claude de Valois is gonna die after Mary, I think. I don’t know what Mary is going to say since they didn’t have any relationship. Perhaps somethine like “Claude was a great woman. She fought for her beliefs and I admired her for that. May she rest in peace”.

• Then, there will be another time jump. There’s gonna be a black screen where written “France, January 5th 1589″. During Catherine de Medici’s tresspassing, Adelaide/Mary is gonna say something like “my beloved Catherine died a couple years after me. She was a mother to me, we’ve been through so much. She will live on in history”

• Then, there will be another time jump, perhaps 10 years where it’s gonna be Narcisse’s turn. I think he’s gonna die with John on his side. He’s gonna die of age. Adelaide/Mary is going to say something like “even tho he wasn’t a perfect man, he deserved to be loved. I don’t know if it is a good thing, probably not, but thanks to him I was able to go back to the country I loved. I am happy that he found a soulmate in my dear Lola but also sad that she died too soon”. And then Narcisse is gonna die and perhaps there is gonna be a flashback of Lola

• After another timejump, we’ll see Elizabeth, saddened because she was never loved by someone. We’ll see her a couple minutes before her death. She’s gonna die and her last words are gonna be something like “Mary.. I’m sorry”. Then, Adelaide/Mary is gonna say “My cousin died after 44 years or Reign over the english people. She didn’t have any heir, so my son, James is gonna be on both english and scottish thrones. We may have fought for many years but at the end, I won. That’s why in my end I found my beginning. My son is going to be a great ruler, better than anyone else. He’s gonna fight forces of darkness, forces of the heart, but he’ll find his way through it. Long may he reign”.

• The last image of the show will be an adult James, sitting on the throne of England.

• Then, there is gonna be a last black screen and Adelaide/Mary is going to say something like : “My name was, and still is, Mary Stuart. I was made queen of Scotland when I was only 6 days old. All my life, I was in danger. Everybody wanted my country and my crown. I found allies in many people, but also many enemies. I loved many men, but no one like the first. My dear Francis, I found him back in the afterlife. I trusted a lot of people but in the end, I was killed by my very own cousin and greatest enemy. But five centuries later, I am still a history icon as the same scale as my cousin Elizabeth. This was my story.”

my all-time ultimate fave character: Louis Conde

a character who deserved better: Conde and Bash

a ship I’ve never been able to get into: Frary. I mean i was a bit into it long ago but then it became a big nope. I like Frola better.

a cute, low-key ship: Mash, Julien and Lola, Cleith

an unpopular ship but I still enjoyed it: Monde lol. Also Elizabeth and Gideon.

a ship that was totally wrong and never should have happened: A lot of ships tbh, esp Mary’s ships after leaving France.

my favourite storyline/moment: Most of S1 and S2. Mary and Elizabeth’s very powerful queen af moments in later seasons.

a storyline that never should have been written: Mary’s rape story line I guess? Honestly the show is a blur in my head after S2.

my first thoughts on the show: I thought it was very interesting and dramatic and intriguing. I thought the clothes were fucking fabulous.

my thoughts now: Why?!

my all-time ultimate fave character: Alex Karev

a character I didn’t used to like but now do: April Kepner

a character I used to like but now don’t: Owen Hunt? More like indifferent towards him rn coz he doesn’t have much of a story line atm.

a character I’m indifferent about: Meredith Grey, oops?

a character who deserved better: UM. I HAVE HUGE LIST? But mostly Mark and Lexie and Henry and George and AHH. LET’S NOT GO THERE.

a ship I’ve never been able to get into: Jackson and Maggie.

a ship I’ve never been able to get over: Slexie. Always Slexie. Also Japril.

a cute, low-key ship: Jolex

an unpopular ship but I still enjoyed it: Henry and Teddy

a ship that was totally wrong and never should have happened: Nothing I feel that strongly about but maybe Izzy and George lol.

my favourite storyline/moment: That scene where Jackson and Christina are operating on Derek in that shooting episode if a forever fav tbh. And as of recently, Meredith being supportive of Jo in the episode with Paul and all of Jo’s scenes in that episode + Alex worrying abt her + Jenny! And the whole police brutality talk was just powerful. I have a lot of feelings about this show. And oh, kudos for bringing in a new trans and hijabi intern!!

a storyline that never should have been written: Spoilersss!! BUT UM SLEXIE DYING? AND REALLY ALL THE DEATH TBH.

my first thoughts on the show: Wtf why are they killing everyone?????!!!
