OH, HE SUCKS (positive)
Fuckboy: The Original. hides all his problems under a carefully constructed mask that he refuses to let anyone see underneath lest they find out how utterly terrified he is all the time. definitely slowly crumbling, but he’ll laugh and pretend he’s not because why would he be? he’s perfect and every single girl wants him! right?
naoyuki does whatever (and whoever, i suppose) he wants, when he wants to and that’s how he’s lived his life for almost a decade now. he’ll front like that’s how he’s always been, but that’s really not the truth at all. the reality of it is that, after the extremely sudden death of his father, his entire worldview got shattered and he became so violently terrified of losing someone else he’s close to that he’s stopped forming relationships altogether.
oh, sure, he likes the attention he gets, but it’s all entirely fake. he has fun, sure, but it’s mostly just to kill time. he doesn’t get attached to anyone — romantically or otherwise — because he’s afraid that another sudden loss would completely ruin him. he got close to that point before and he hated it; he’s not going to let it happen again if he has any say in the matter.
he’s always been a little cocky since he was a kid, but he dialed it up for his totally-fully-genuine persona. add in the nearly impenetrable shell he’s encased his heart in, and you get what he’s become now — some guy who dates around and shatters girls’ hearts without a single care in the world because he can. and over time, he’s just come to accept that — yeah, that’s just who he is. right?
deep down, he doesn’t think it is; knows it’s not. but he’s used this persona as a crutch and a shield for so long that the idea of doing away with it scares him, too. does he want to be cared about? yeah, but he won’t say so. does he want someone he can talk to about his problems? absolutely, but he’s not going to seek someone like that out. does he want to form a genuine, meaningful connection with someone? he does, but he’ll still keep everyone at arm’s length regardless.
naoyuki fronts like he’s cold and heartless, but the reality of it all is that he’s just a scared little kid inside.
