A Red Deer With A Human Heart

All that I left behind was but this empty shell, this body that cannot be called human.

The desire to fulfill just that – Wish – began to strip away the layer of essence that had defined my being, consuming me until I had lost myself. Still, I clung to it, desperately striving to become a creature, I had drifted away from in the process of trying to reach it; without having realized, until it was too late and my silhouette that reflected in people's glassy eyes mirrored what I had become – a Beast. It’s rather paradoxical, don’t you think?

This beautiful image I had of humans had been a lie from the start, an image I created, a nightmare that showed me I didn’t belong, all the same giving me a reason to continue living. Since I thought I would be allowed to see you again, once I looked like your kind.

Given that I gazed at myself with disgust, viewing my existence as unavailing, I was equally unable to recognize the worth of the souls around me; only when your life had been threatened was I capable of understanding that value, which could solely be measured by a humane heart. Only when I myself was in pain, could I understand the sorrow of others.

Every person is precious to another and I had always believed that to be a weakness, something that trapped one in a confined space and withheld one's radiance. That may be the case for some, but what is the point of living a life, in which you are forced to be someone less than yourself? If anything, I am able to let my wings be carried by your refreshing gust of wind. In my eyes, that is freedom itself.

Through your kind words and sincerity, I have come to recognize that my interpretation of a human existence had been wrong, all along. My actions are as faulty and irrational as a human’s: the crimson horns, dyed with the lives that I stole, souls that I shattered, nevertheless, the cherry blossom-colored hair that you loved so dearly as well, inducing a warm feeling in my being. Suddenly I wanted to live, I wished to be cared for. Your Love made me blossom into the person I am now, and you taught me the true meaning of this gentle endearment.

The simple act of lending someone a hand or a glance of sympathy, such simple gestures should not be underestimated since these tiny things, can teach you the true nature of kindness. Yet, the instant you have known love, the malicious behavior, which previously made your body and soul unfeeling, hurts all the more. For one is only able to experience true pain when one has wished for another’s genuine happiness. Regardless, of whether you lost warmth or never possessed it in the first place, both leave a void in one’s core.

Even though our lives in which we were able to see each other for whom we truly are, have merely begun, I must abandon it. Even when I do not sense the burns and cuts I sustain, I cannot imagine the unbearable pain you must endure while gazing upon the red tears flowing from my lonely heart, leaving for you to guard – The vessel that once held my cherished emotions toward you.

I wish for you to stay unaware of the truth – that my consciousness is elsewhere, destined to fight an endless battle. However, it pains me to think that you will never find out that we are separated by millions of galaxies and gleaming stars, awaiting my awakening which will never occur. How can they continue shining so brightly, despite your absence?

The salty drops of my soul gather, forming a river of emotions that will drown me.

Please don’t meet me at the river, it isn’t your time.

I think visual novels can often have very messy prose due to being a very chuuni/rule of cool focused genre, it generally works out because they're also a very auteur focused genre.

While most VNs are massive team projects, they're cheap enough that you can feasibly make one solo - and even the major releases will be mainly sold on the name recognition of the scenario writer/lead writer.

So while it's got messy, perhaps unpolished prose compared to more standard literary fiction, it's fine because it's often a very personal story told from the vision of a lead creative - at least the prose often is, extra collaborators notwithstanding.

Chaos;Head NoAH is a story that was apparently stewing and building in scenario writer Naotaka Hayashi's head for years, and I think this shines through in the finished product.

Note

people always talk about steins;gate and to a lesser degree chaos;head but what do you think of the other sci;adv games?

Robotics;Notes is the remaining member of the core three written by Hayashi Naotaka, and it is an absolutely immaculate and relatable (to me) coming of age story about depressed kids that also features hope, giant robots and <here's how propoganda hits even skeptics>. As a sequel to the first two games, it does however touch on themes and plot points that don't make as much sense without them.

New writers were involved in later titles.

Chaos;Child is a direct sequel to chaos;head, but despite the premise spoiling the ending to chaos;head, it is too afraid to do anything but make retreads of Chaos;Head's plot. It has some interesting ideas but I feel squanders them in favour of saying that Golden Endings aren't realistic, and offers nothing in exchange.

Steins;Gate 0 is a spinoff AU of Steins;Gate that turns a really good unfinished manga/neat light novel into a Steins;Gate cash grab story. It expands on the story so badly, that the <anime adaptation has to fix the narrative issues>.

Steins;Gate Linear Bounded Phenogram is a fun little anthology series where writers could do whatever, and they had guests. It's a mixed bag of quirky stuff and 'what if we saw this plot even from another PoV' and has some good things in there.

Occultic;Nine didn't come west and the VN and LNs are infamously unfinished. The anime is. It came west. It's an extremely fast paced, banger 12 episode watch.

Anonymous;Code marks the return of Hayashi Naotaka to the lead writer's chair, and looks really good, I'm excited for it to come out.

If you're ever looking to get into Science Adventure, you genuinely don't ever have to go past the core three titles, and I skipped over ones that I feel don't warrant a mention.

Memories Off Sousou: Not always true announced

MAGES. has announced Memories Off Sousou: Not always true, a new Memories Off game to commemorate the romance visual novel series’ 25th anniversary in 2024. It will launch for unspecified platforms in 2024 in Japan.

The game’s staff includes character designer Mutsumi Sasaki, who worked on character designs for the original Memories Off and sequel Memories Off 2nd; scenario writer Naotaka Hayashi, who is the main writer of the STEINS;GATE series, and wrote the scripts for Memories Off: Sorekara and Memories Off 5: Togireta Film; and composer Takeshi Abo, who has worked on music for the entire Memories Off series.

According to the press release, rather than make a 25th anniversary title that acts as a culmination, these well-known creators from the series will create a new Memories Off.

The Memories Off series began on September 30, 1999 with the release of the original game on PlayStation in Japan. It has since seen eight main entries and a number of prequels, sequels, spin-offs, and anime adaptations. It will celebrate its 25th anniversary on September 30, 2024.

Etsuko Ichihara is Japanese artist. Born 1988 in Aichi. Graduated in Studies of Media, Body and Image from the School of Culture, Media and Society, Waseda University. She has been creating artworks that interpret Japanese culture, customs and beliefs from a unique point of view, and present new, technology-based approaches. Thanks to their strong impact, these works have been introduced across a wide range of media all over the world, such as newspapers and TV programs, radio programs, and magazines. Ichihara’s works were included in the Excellence Award at the 20th Japan Media Arts Festival, Entertainment Division in 2017, and in 2016, chosen for the INNOvation program from The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. She won Honorary Mention (Interactive Art＋) in PRIX Ars Electronica 2018 and received a STARTS Prize Nomination in the same year recently. She has recently presented her works in exhibitions such as ‘Digital Shamanism: Japanese Funeral and Festivity’ at NTT InterCommunication Center [ICC], ‘Cyber Arts Exhibition 2018’ at Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Japan Media Arts Festival, ‘Mediating Asia’ at National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, ‘Roppongi Crossing 2022’ at the Mori Art Museum.

Full-Length DARLING in the FRANXX Trailer Unveiled

DARLING in the FRANXX, the new series from Studio Trigger and A-1 Pictures, may have a bizarre name, but frankly, it’s looking pretty good.

Based on the trailer, the series seems to be about a group of children in the future living in a dome sealed off from the world. The children know nothing out of the outside, and are taught only about how to fight. The story begins when a mysterious horned girl, code-named Zero Two, appears to shake things up.

DARLING in the FRANXX, which premieres January 2018, is directed by Atsushi Nishigori (The Idolmaster) with script supervision from Nishgori and Naotaka Hayashi (Steins;Gate).

Idyllic Grasp

Blossoming into the Horizon

“What a wonderful, glimmering Sky,” I thought.

My eyes had always known the Sky in its most vibrant of colors. Therefore, once it vanished from my world, coated by the most impassable clouds imaginable, I did not know what to do.

I desperately tried to grasp it, but it did not grasp me in return.

After repeating the unending cycle of gaining and losing it, I stopped beholding the unstained firmament entirely. Regardless of whether I wished to or not, I realized I had to learn how to survive without it, and avoiding the Sky altogether made it considerably easier.

There is no problem if you act as though it does not exist.

However, there were days when the Sky was so wide and embellished with a vivid blue hue, which made it impossible to overlook, demanding my utter attention. So much so that I could no longer avert my gaze. I felt constricted, yet the Sky did not seem to mind if it could spread its enchanting beauty.

As the clouds and wind passed by, I began to blossom and with my fading youth, my heart became accustomed to pain rather than love.

One day, I ceased to engage the outside. I wondered,” What could I do to convey that my love for the Sky has not faded, but rather taken another form?”

The presence of the firmament I desperately yearned for as a girl was different now. I sought its existence, although in such a manner that I could spread my petals and when needing melodies of reinforcement, knowing that I could simply glance at the vast bed of azure above.

For in the fullness of time, I myself will become another’s Sky.

Thinking about Phantasm, one of the most wild parts of the Science Adventure seires. It's one of those "definctionalized" bands, where it exists in the canon of SciADV itself but also releases real music.

The lead singer, Yui Sakakibara, plays FES, the lead singer of the real Phantasm band. She's also the voice actress for Ayase Kishimoto, aka FES, the lead singer of Phantasm, the band that exists inside SciADV.

Yui Sakakibara plays FES in-character when performing for Phatasm, it's such a fun idea - especially since SciADV is playing with that metatextual edge on purpose, layers of reality and fiction are a recurring theme.

This isn't even the only time recurring SciADV lead writer Naotaka Hayashi has formed a band for a meta-concept like this before.

Revo's band Sound Horizon, famous for their rock operas, has a seperate label called "Linked Horizon" they go by when they're creating music for an existing media property (like when they did the first AoT OP).

The concept of a "Linked Horizon" is also a meta-reference to the first project they were formed for, Bravely Default: Where The Fairy Flies, which had Naotaka Hayashi as a lead writer.

Like if I had a nickel for every Hayashi project that's done a metatextual real world band...

Studio Trigger and A-1 Pictures Reveal Their New Project DARLING in the FRANKXX

Studio Trigger and A-1 Pictures has launched a website for their new original Sci-Fi anime DARLING in the FRANKXX. The website released the anime’s first official trailer.

Besides the trailer the website also showed us the main cast working on this project. Here are the cast working on the anime:

Atsushi Nishigori (The Character designer for Gurren Lagann and The IDOLM@STER) will be directing this new series.

Toshifumi Akai (Known for directing Sound of the Sky and The Labyrinth of Magic) will be assisting directing.

Naotaka Hayashi (director for Girl Friend BETA, Morita-san wa Mukuchi) will be in charge of composition.

Masayoshi Tanaka (High school of the Dead character desiger) Will be Chief animation director.

Hiroyuki Imaishi (director of Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill) will be supervising all the action.

Shadowverse Flame: la serie animata andrà in onda dal 2 aprile

L’anime ispirato al gioco di carte collezionabili di Cygames tornerà in tv con le vicende di tre nuovi protagonisti.

Il canale ufficiale dell’anime di “Shadowverse”, ha diffuso un primo video promozionale per “Shadowverse Flame”, la prossima serie animata del franchise, ispirata al popolare gioco di carte collezionabili targato Cygames, che verrà trasmessa in Giappone a partire dal 2 aprile.

La storia seguirà dei protagonisti diversi da quelli della precedente serie di 48 episodi (più uno speciale), andata in onda fra aprile 2020 e marzo 2021, che potete trovare in streaming su Crunchyroll, sottotitolata in italiano.

Il cast principale è formato da:

Light Tenryu: Yuto Uemura (Teruto Kurabe in Build Divide #000000: Code Black)

Itsuki Mitsutagawa: Hibiku Yamamura (Claudia Bruford in Warlords of Sigrdrifa)

Subaru Makabe: Kazuki Ura (Doi Shota in World's End Harem)

Lo staff al lavoro presso lo studio ZEXCS (Asagao to Kase-san, Backflip!!) è in gran parte lo stesso della prima serie, con sostituzioni che riguardano più che mai le sezioni dedicate ai fondali e alla computer grafica.

La regia è dunque nuovamente affidata a Keiichiro Kawaguchi (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou, Dropout Idol Fruit Tart), che stavolta avrà come assistente Naotaka Hayashi.

Della sceneggiatura si occupano Rintaro Isaki e Deko Akao (Komi Can't Communicate, The Case Study of Vanitas), mentre il character design è curato da Hiroki Harada (Sasami-san@Ganbaranai, Romeo x Juliet) e Yasunari Nitta. Le musiche, invece, sono ad opera di Yoshihiro Ike (Takt Op. Destiny, Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul).

Il videogioco è stato lanciato dapprima su iOS e Android nel giugno 2016, per poi arrivare nell’ottobre dello stesso anno anche su PC tramite la piattaforma di digital delivery Steam. Il titolo è free-to-play e comprende sia una campagna single player che una modalità multiplayer.

A differenza dell’anime, che ruota attorno a dei giocatori ed è chiaramente mirato ad un pubblico giovane, il mondo di gioco originale ha dei toni marcatamente dark fantasy e segue le vicende di altri personaggi.

Striking New Card Battle Begins in TV Anime Shadowverse F 2nd PV

The official website for the anime franchise inspired by Cygames's card-battling game Shadowverse has posted a 100-second second PV for the forthcoming second TV anime series entitled Shadowverse F (Flame).

The latest clip features the anime's OP theme song "Shingan" (Mind's Eye) performed under the unit name Lanndo feat. Suda Keina. Lanndo is a solo project by vocaloid song creator nulut, while Suda Keina, who has also been active as vocaloid song creator Baloon, joins the song as guest vocalist.

In addition, the anime's ED theme song "My Turn" is confirmed to be sung by Yui Ogura, who is also cast as Alice Kurobane, a nationally popular idol.

Shadowverse F is set to premiere on the TV Tokyo network stations across Japan on April 2, 2022. Its story features a new protagonist Light Tenryu, who is a transfer student to Shadova College, a facility that trains professional players of the Shadowverse game. He decides to join "Seventh Flame," one of the seven Shadova clubs. However, Seventh Flame is on the verge of closure due to a lack of members! In order to avoid the club's demise, Light decides to look for new members. But what awaits him are powerful rivals who control a wide variety of cards...

This is the 5th promo aired for this series (one released per week), called "Darling in the Franxx", though each PV has only given hints about what this show (a mecha series, by the looks of it) is about
