Wither Rose Alliance In The AU In Which All the Marriages are Arranged

Fwhip and Mythical Sausage are cousins who grew up together and are functionally siblings

Fwhip and GeminiTay are not biologically related but decided they were twins when they were very small and have been family ever since.

Pearl is related to no one and, in fact, is possibly not human at all. Xornoth and Gem are Suspicious. (Sometimes you spend a lot of time wondering if you’re friends with a human queen or a goddess it just be like that)

Xornoth is technically a member in the way that sometimes that one weird quiet kid gets along with one of the friend group of weird loud kids like a house on fire and so they hang out with them even if they don’t really socialize with them.

Xornoth and Pearl are best friends and Xornoth has no idea how this happened and had very little input on the situation.

Joey has become an adjacent member since he and Xornoth started dating.

The core three of the WRA, the Roseblings squad, are the only ones actively in conflict with the Ocean Alliance, which is the primary reason it has never broken out into all out war despite Sausage’s harassment of the Swamp borders. Because while Pearl enjoys a good fight Xornoth doesn’t particularly want to go to war directly after bringing their country out of isolation. And both Xornoth and Gem suspect that Lizzie Vs Pearl would be some kind of natural disaster and so they are very invested in preventing that fight.

(This is where Scott ends up coming into the equation. RIP)

AU Masterpost

Finally have the time and the spoons to come back around and talk a bit more about THIS and also like, staple crops and food-stuffs in general. General warning for another long post that is going to be half infodump and half worldbuilding and they will be all mixed up together.

By (kind of) opening the borders (outside travel in is still pretty limited but that is as much because Rivendell is honestly pretty hard to get to if you can't fly or scale mountains easily as anything else) and expanding international trade Xornoth changed the lives of every single inhabitant of Rivendell wildly for the better. (This would also apply in canon, only there it was Scott, and his closest ally was Katherine or Gem, not Pearl, but the overal point stands.)

Especially by allying so closely with Gilded Helianthia, Xornoth completely changed the way that Rivendell lives, especially during the winter. Prior to the opening of those trade routes, Rivendell relied entirely on what they themselves could produce during their short summer months to last out the winter. Both for themselves and their livestock. (And sometimes it comes down to having to decide whether to feed yourself or your livestock, with the knowledge that if you have to eat all your sheep and chickens to survive the winter you will have nothing to start over with in the spring and the next winter will be even harder but it isn't really even a choice.)

Because Rivendell did grow some wheat, a very sturdy strain bred for the mountains, but the season for it is short and so it's not as much as you would need to sustain an entire people and their livestock through a long southern winter. But you know what does grow in the mountains? Potatoes and carrots!

That's right folks, you heard it here first, lamb stew is a Rivendell staple food.

They would supplement their staple crops by hunting and fishing, but it wasn't always enough. But now...now they have regular shipments of beef and pork and all kinds of grains coming over the nether road and all they have to do is send a steady supply of wool right back. (And that's not even taking into account the humanitarian efforts that get sent between empires in times of crisis.)

After Scott's marriage to Jimmy they also get regular shipments of fish, though its less urgent by that point as, despite the steadily increased harshness of the winters (though that, oddly, seemed to dissipate somewhat when the prince left for the swamp. huh, weird.) they have much more food security from their decades of international trade at that point.

The Swamp itself only fishes on a trade scale, their livestock and crops are mostly household level. They do not eat cod for religious reasons. They do eat other seafood and swamplife as well, mollusks and crawdads and such.

Mezalea is the primary fishing empire, and the source of most internationally traded fish, though the Ocean gets a cut of that due to their treaties. They also grow some of their own staples, and trade for others (fish for wheat)

Pixandria does grow some of their own crops in the oasis but also, like Rivendell, relies both on hunting and trade with Helianthia to sustain the population. They also fish and forage from the sea as well. (It is also worth noting here that Pix does have the ability to summon storms so…that’s relevant)

The Ocean Empire sustains itself with kelp and fish farming. Fish are their livestock. They do also maintain some dry land livestock on a few small islands, but those are mostly reserved for special occasions. They also maintain a steady source of golden carrots. (It is suspected via black market)

The Overgrown is mostly self-sustaining. They trade for delicacies mostly.

The Grimlands, much like Rivendell, have potatoes as a staple crop. They have a surplus of potatoes at all times. Fwhip is like the rural neighbor who made the mistake of planting multiple zucchini plants and will vaguely threaten you into taking some at church. (They are good potatoes though. Even if some of them are a bit...odd and clearly contaminated by redstone runoff. Fwhip: "I eat them all the time, it's fine." Everyone else: *doubt*) They also have an annual salmon run.

Mythland has a free-roaming sheep population that they don't eat for religious reasons. Their staple crop is wheat and their wheat-fields are almost as impressive as Helianthias. They also trade with Rivendell for this purpose.

The Crystal Cliffs have magically insulated greenhouses and fields, allowing them to grow most anything they want even as high in the mountains as they are. They are limited only by space. They have built some of these in Rivendell as part of the treaties and alliance between them.

The Undergrove is currently populated by wolves (who feed themselves) and one (1) gnome. Shrub is very determinedly setting up the area to support whatever survivors they are able to find of their people. A good portion of what she currently is living off of are the mushrooms that she is cultivating and the beginnings of carrot and potato gardens.

The Lost Empire also primarily grows potatoes and carrots, though they also are the source of chocolate, and thus have a very steady trade with most other empires for that very purpose. They also fish from their rivers and lakes.

Gilded Helianthia is the only empire that grows crops in enough surplus for regular, extended trade. Due to their ideal geographical location, they are able to grow most crops and also have steady herds of cows, pigs, and sheep. They also export almost as much honey as Pixandria. They feed both themselves and a good chunk of the other empires as well. (The land is magical)

Who Speaks What Language: Wither Rose Alliance Edition

Fwhip: Speaks Mythlandic as his first language. Has a very basic knowledge of Silvan, and can exchange polite greetings in most other languages and even more swears. Can usually decipher Galactic without a key, does need one to write in it unless it’s a specific word he already uses a lot and has memorized (#JustMadAlchemistThings)

Gem: speaks Mythlandic as her first language. Has better Silvan than Fwhip but still not fully conversational. Fully fluent in Galactic, own a treasured copy of an Oceanic Runic dictionary. Has been learning Sindarin and Quenya as much as possible through old books and bullying Xornoth to translate things for her. Fluent in Pixandrian, her Mezalean is nonexistent. She very badly wants to learn the Language of the Lost Empire but wrangling Joey to either teach her or send her someone who will is proving challenging. Most of her language knowledge is based around magical systems and records. She could probably hold a philosophical debate in more than one language she could not ask for directions in.

Sausage: Mythlandic is his first language and he is conversationally fluent in Mezalean and Silvan as well. Knows more swears than Fwhip, including some in the Swamp Dialect (mostly from Jimmy saying them). Also knows how to flirt in Pixandrian and Mezalean and is learning how in the Language of the Lost Empire by third-wheeling Joey and Xornoth. Wants to learn to curse in any elvish language but Xornoth doesn’t curse and refuses to teach him.

Pearl: Speaks the Helianthian dialect of Mythlandic, Fluent in Silvan, learning both Sindarin and Quenya from Xornoth at a rapid pace. Also fluent in Pixandrian, as they are a major trade partner.

Joey: His first language is the Language of the Lost Empire. Which still does not have a name. Is still learning Mythlandic, though he is fluent. Is also learning Quenya and Sindarin and some Gnomish.

I can always talk about Pearl in any context! I'm assuming this is related to the character study snippets (If I am wrong pls let me know and I will happily talk more) so here we go!

"And match!" The boy on the ground grinned up at her and tried to sit up. Pearl didn't let him. For a moment he looked confused and scowled up at her. She scowled back and pushed her knees harder into his arms. "The match is over." "What?" The Mythland boy nodded his head towards the old man perched in a chair at the edge of the arena. "He called the match. It's over. You won." Slowly, Pearl backed up, not loosening her grip on her staff. The boy sat up immediately and beamed at her, ridiculously cheerful for someone who just got his butt kicked by a girl half his size. The boys in her village were never so chill about it. "You were really cool!" He bounced to his feet and towards her, Pearl backed up a couple rapid steps and he stopped, though he kept bouncing. "You said you'd never used a staff before, what weapon do you usually use? A sword?" Slightly stunned, Pearl shook her head slowly. "I've never used a sword." The boy's grin turned sharper, though still delighted and, despite all common sense, Pearl did not feel afraid as he brushed red sand off the sides of his fancy loose shirt. "Would you like to?"

Has Sausage ever gone to harrass the Swamp borders and just been met by The entire Ocean Alliance on top of the cod wall?

Wonder what he would do.

Very curious as to what the WRA thinks of the whole accidental arranged marriage thing.

He hasn't previously. He has...visited before and Pix or Joel has been there, but never the whole alliance at once, and never Lizzie. He's pretty antagonistic with Pix as well, and doesn't interact that much with Joel so he doesn't really care about them.

Ironically, Sausage and Jimmy are very alike, in that they both will absolutely overreach in their bravado, Sausage is just a little bit better at backing it up, at least initially. So if he did see them all up there he absolutely would not hesitate to continue his original goal of harassing Jimmy. It would also end with Jimmy knocked on his ass and Sausage running away, protesting his good behavior and probably also laughing.

Fwhip both thinks the marriage is hilarious and is annoyed because this means he now has to tread more carefully when messing with Jimmy. (It doesn't mean he's going to stop)

Sausage is pretending to not be as surprised by Scott's existence as he actually is (and is also trying to figure out how to still mess with Jimmy without causing tensions with Rivendell and Xornoth in specific)

Gem thinks they're all idiots and is cautiously optimistic that this will work out. She and Scott click immediately when they meet during the wedding preparations and it takes her all of ten seconds to declare that he deserves better than Jimmy.

So the angst potential of Empires S1, Scott and Gem’s imprisonment by Sausage and Joey has been very well explored (pls keep doing this it’s delightful)

May I present for your consideration:

The Comedic Potential

Like, yes Sausage and Joey are possessed/corrupted by a demon. Yes they have free reign to kill Gem and torture Scott as much as they want.

However I think there is a certain amount of potential for “we’re not stuck down here with you, you’re stuck here with us”. Because both Scott and Gem are masters of supercilious condescension and Sausage and Joey are, quite honestly, prime targets for this.

(I’m in the middle of watching Sausage’s pov rn if you couldn’t tell XD)

Both Scott and Gem are incapable of not giving snarky criticism is all. There is some of this in the actual relevant episodes but I think there is some good comedy (dark or crack or otherwise) potential there.
