hello !!! thank you to both anons for these asks ! i decided to do them both in the same post since it was easier this way lol, hope it's okay- honestly thanks for giving me an excuse to write more myles content (even though yall probably shouldn't allow me this much power), lord knows i needed it :D

weak hero headcanons; myles, dongha + wolf

myles joo / joo seungjin

⋆ used to be star player on his middle school basketball team ! grew up playing with his big bro and made the team in his first year. was really good at it too. loved being on the court, and winning itself, of course. near the end of his second-year, though, a teammate started a fight with him which resulted in him getting kicked from the team

⋆ still likes to shoot hoops in his free time; it's relaxing for him, honestly. thought about joining the high school team but he didn't have time for it and the union. even though he does now, he still feels like something's holding him back from pursuing it

⋆ not a crazy cat person like teddy, but has a soft spot for the strays in his neighborhood they like him, surprisingly lol. can't leave them food since he lives in an apartment, but carries a few treats in his pocket for ones he sees~ there's a black cat who really likes him that's been around for a year now; secretly wants to keep him, but he can't see it going over well with his dad :,)

⋆ not a headcanon so much as my opinion, but would totallyyy suit an eyebrow piercing (because somebody needs to compete with donald lol). gave himself one in middle school, but it got infected after his face got fucked up in a fight and he had to remove it. thought about redoing it, then realized it wasn't safe to have with all the fights he gets into-

⋆ including the black one he always wears, he has a big snapback + baseball cap collection ! his favorites are displayed proudly on his wall, the rest boxed up in the closet

⋆ his hair looks like that because he cuts it at home. had one too many bad barbershop experiences and now he doesn't trust them, but his own skills are... subpar at best :,)

baek dongha

⋆ dongha is the type of mf who refuses to wear shorts- no matter what. it could be 900° and he will still wear pants, only because he hates how his legs look and feel in shorts. would sleep in them if he wasn't normal lol

⋆ dongha has known seongmok since childhood, even before they became friends. truth be told, dongha was a nasty little kid, so he didn't hang out with a lot of people. but seongmok (who was very quiet even back then !) started following him around one day and dongha, who tried to scare him off at first lol, soon realized he really liked having someone by his side :)

⋆ i know he smokes cigs in canon, but imo he's more of a vaper than anything. def one of those people who has 500 vapes and has to hit one every 2 minutes before suffering withdrawals- only elf bars, only fruity flavors

⋆ got this idea from an ask, but he lives with his grandma and has since middle school ! he's in a weird, defiant time in his life so he's not as close with her as she wants, but she loves him just the same~

⋆ to add onto this, when he isn't at his grandma's, dongha's couch-crashing at seongmok's house- he's a lot closer to his family and they've basically adopted him, lol. it's not that he feels excluded at his grandma's, but she wasn't present for a lot of his life up until moving in with her. so, for now, seongmok's place is his true "home"

⋆ avid video gamer, lol- he likes doing multiplayer ones with seongmok or hitting up the arcade for some Tekken, but he's really into anything. keeps some gacha games on his phone for when class is too boring, but he usually regrets the money he spends on them :,)

wolf keum / keum seongje

⋆ surprisingly smart ! doesn't take school seriously, so much as it comes easy to him? + ganghak isn't an idiot cesspool like some of the other schools, so he didn't get in on connections or money alone- he's not a fan of studying or showing up to all his classes, but he manages to make consistent As and Bs and, if his attendance were any better, he'd be an almost perfect student !

⋆ doesn't have much for hobbies lol. its not like his life revolved around the union, but he's never really stuck with one thing. you could say his hobby is fighting, but i think he used to be a bit of a bookworm~

⋆ loved books about mystery/crime and detective-type novels that he could solve himself; he was a bit of a nerdy kid :,) he still enjoys media of that genre but doesn't read as much as he used to. if anything it benefitted him, since he was able to figure out jared's plan pretty easy

⋆ whether he says it or not, he considers hwangmo a good friend. i imagine they went to elementary school together where social-butterfly hwangmo tried to befriend him, though seongje wasn't too interested lol- didn't even remember hwangmo until he asked seongje about it

⋆ but out of all his lackeys, he's the only one who actually respects him and sticks by his side, and has a brain on his shoulders lol- so seongje respects him, too :) sometimes gives hwangmo extra from their funds like a raise lol, buys him a snack/drink after meetings, or offers him smokes; hwangmo thinks they could be friends someday, once this union stuff blows over

⋆ ik a lot of people subscribe to "homophobic gay wolf" but i honestly think he wouldn't care that much- his sexuality isn't anybody else's business, or something he even cares about. he likes who he likes, though he doesn't really like anyone... :,)

Soo that was unexpected but definitely not unwelcome.

WE FINALLY GOT TO SEE MYLESSS IM SO HAPPY. It's so nice to know that he wasn't a pushover. He seemed like a pretty okay person tbh. Tho above all, he has WOLF KEUM'S RESPECT? Now that's an achievement ig XD

Donald really did him dirty tho. Mokha duo is the real pushover ig.

But wolf dear what are you doing? Where is your character development?!?! It seems like Gray's beating literally did nothing for him...

Like I didn't expect him to become a completely different person but like...ya know...at least have a teeny tiny change in that attitude?? You do remember that YOU TOO got beat up by said "rookie punk" don't you wolf?? Why is he still underestimating Gray? Or does he just..not care..

Ig I was kinda right then? Wolf is going to fight mokha and win I assume n then he'd want to fight Gray again ig?? Tho Gray definitely wouldn't let wolf beat mokha alone. He does need his revenge after all...

Poor hwangmo tho 😭 Gray's gonna beat him up first n then move to dongha. "Look at my situation" nah my dear hwangmo, you should NOT give that excuse to Gray cuz that's exactly what he hates the most. "There's nothing that I could've done" n all that shit...

Welp after this chapter I'm half convinced that wolf neither has a sad backstory nor will he ever join eunjang (tho I was already convinced that the latter was pretty improbable). All we can do is hope now ig :,) (hope for what exactly? Idek...)

I love the dynamics between the Union executives and their No.2's. Like, you put Jimmy, Wolf, and Jake in a room together and they're like hissing cats. Meanwhile, Jack and Hwangmo are in the hallway, silently bonding over how they're constantly herding said hissing cats. Dean never participates because he thinks of himself as above the other sidekicks.

i've been rereading weak hero season 2 since the latest chapter dropped and i have some things to say about donald

spoilers under the cut

okay first of all i am so fucking pissed at seopass😭😭i can't really say much about the storytelling aspect of choosing to allow donald to die but honestly it does feel very sudden and just unfair to his character. perhaps the suddenness is my reaction because all this time it seemed like he just couldn't die, then he had had the whole arc in the final battle where we finally see a vulnerable side of him and get his full backstory, then all of a sudden he dies?? it just feels so incomplete, like the build up was for nothing🙁🙁🙁.

second of all, i'm only realising just how sad his backstory is now that i'm rereading it.

it's not just about his mother being ill, his father being abusive, and being bullied in school but also the loss of innocence in young donald. at first he was so sweet and cute, but by the time he's thirteen, he's also got a whole baby gang going, beating people up and even doing breaking and entering in one instance, taking his step father's money. then he exposes the dirt on his ex teacher and had myles joo and his boys beat him up, and smash his car outside of the school.

it also reminds me of how much donald has grown- now he would never b&e or smash an adult's car so recklessly (though ofc he did it originally knowing he couldn't get the police called on him). though still heavily involved with delinquents, violence and crime, his methods have refined as he grew, and you can see him become more calculated and less uncouth. despite the maturity of his actions at 13, in a way they're still childish, and it's a reminder that even if he's acting tough he's still a baby🙁🙁

while i was glad to watch those people get their comeuppance, i honestly felt so heartbroken watching their callous and flippant nature to crime. like, he literally has a baby face!!! he's like 5'0!!! and he's here stomping people in alleyways and committing burglary?!!! it reminded me of kaz brekker from SOC for some reason, who was innocent and naive till he had to grow up at 12 or 13 and started hustling people in gambling dens and getting in trouble with the law.

it hurts to watch how cruelly he was treated by his teachers and his schoolmates because of his poverty, and how no one did anything about it because it was just normal to them that in a school full of rich kids, it was just a given that donald was considered less than trash. then at night he was kicked out by his step father so he could cheat and drink and he had to wander around yeongdeungpo all on his own in the cold, hungry, and huddle under an apartment block?? ARE YOU JOKING😭😭

he changed so much due to the circumstances of his situation and he grew into something no one should ever have to. he isn't just strong and smart and always five steps ahead becaude of his natural talent (though that definitely helped), but because he had to be. doing badly has never been a choice for him. he needs it to survive. i've always liked donald, and i've always suspected this about his character, but hearing it be confirmed just makes me like him more.

it's so sad realising how everything about him was manufactured to fit his image- his piercings, his hair, his clothes, his tattoos, his image, the way he talks- he didn't even LIKE any of them, but they just became a part of who he was nevertheless. thinking about the way he found his tattoos repulsive when they were all over his body, and were the first things he saw whenever he looked in the mirror must've been so painful to him. but he probably thought being affected by it made him weak so🙁.

and finally, the end where it shows his attachment and love for his inner child who was never loved or taken care by anybody and had to fend for his own. the image of the older donald, covered in tattoos taking care of his small, crying younger self is so powerful😭😭like look at this i wanna kms

i wonder in another life how donald na would turn out if none of these things happened to him🙁🙁he wanted to be a NASA engineer you know🙁🙁🙁😭😭😭he had his own dreams

other things that i noted were that donald actually changes in public a lot. like seriously a lot....first on the rooftop then in the library, like this guy was just stripping at every opportunity.

and also that him not inviting gilshin and jimmy bae into the union was done on purpose as a technique to make them more willing to join? what?? that's so smart😭😭

i also found out this way that myles was a member of the union before it was even called the union?? like they rode together for three years and donald still beat his ass like damn! he is unsentimental.

i'm going to write something about the funeral chapter but that deserves its own post

For those who don't know, the Weak Hero webtoon anglicized a bunch of the characters' first names from Korean to English. They don't do this for newly introduced characters anymore AFAIK, but all the names they anglicized initially have been kept that way.

Since I've gotten a few people asking about the names, so I decided to compile a list of their original Korean names. You can find amost of these on their character profiles on the Weak Hero fandom page, but I figured people would appreciate having a quick reference that is all in one place. ok i know i've said it before but it's soo interesting how seongje not only considers hagho's command but actually listens to him and does what he's told. we've lit never seen that behavior from him except when he's with baekjin, who he (idk the right word but) respects?

and he doesn't like, immediately obey, but there's specifically a panel showing him thinking. did he like, weigh his options?? since hagho is grabbing him did that have an impact on his decision??

seongje is repeatedly shown to be agressive and unbothered in his decisions, and he always takes any chance to fight with no hesitation yet here he's doing just that, not making the first move.

but then vv

these panels kind of confirm my thesis? like, he actually avoided fighting hagho, because he wasn't sure. seongje, not being 100% sure on smth? unheard of.

and they've never fought before? that's so interesting because seongje fought every other union member (forrest, jihun, myles joo, baekjin) except hagho. i don't think they've intentionally avoided one another, since hagho minds his own business and seongje does his own thing, meaning that there's no bad blood between them?

at least, it's one sided because seongje thinks that hagho looks down on him while hagho's kinda chill abt seongje, complimenting him to baekjin but then constantly thinking of him as well? lit what's up w that. god. they make me want to chew on drywall.

tldr: every day we are closer to the hagseon fight and every day i am closer to absolutely loosing it

Weak Hero Musings 1: The Tragedy of Donald Na

"They say 'Boy, you know it's time to go. It's time to give it up...'" - MISSIO, "Animal"

SPOILERS ALERT

The saddest thing about Donald Na (Na Baekjin)'s life isn't his miserable past, or his visual disability. Rather, it's the fact that he leads such a poisonous, alienating life. A life that once it touches other people in his circle, turns them into the worst versions of themselves.

Jake Ji (Ji Hakho), who originally joined the Yeongdeongpo Union to avenge his brother, gets his satisfaction from a life of endless fights.

Jimmy Bae (Bae Jihoon), who at first joined the Union to save Jack Kang (Kang Jeongyeon)'s life, turned into a monstrous bully.

Wolf Geum (Geum Songjae) has nothing and noone to stop him once he joined the Union, and his sadistic side is enhanced by his activities within the organization.

The MokHa duo relish more and more in unleashing violence on other people, instead of realizing what's probably better than that, and is worth more than gold: their genuine friendship.

Kingsley Kwon (Kwon Seokhyeon), who in his private moments worry for Donald and seems to have the potential of becoming a real friend, turns into nothing less than a cult worshipper, with Donald as its high priest and god. To him, Donald is The Omniscient and Omnipotent, and the burden of ensuring the sanctity of this point of view falls upon both Kingsley himself and Donald.

Forrest Lee (Lee Sehan) and Myles Joo (Joo Seungjin) were shaped by their ambition and at the end of the day Myles even resorted to murder attempt.

Worse still, these Union executives, every single one of them, is tainted by dirty money. The taint seeps into their daily interactions, marked by their dubious privileges and naïve pride in fashion brands. It's molded by the way Donald lives, the way he runs the Union, the way he fights, maims and destroys.

Such a life. It alienates Donald from himself and from everyone else. And no brainpower in his world can save him from it, no, not even his own.

Thoughts on Weak Hero Chapter 248

I don't have money for fast pass so NO SPOILERS PLEASE. Also spoilers for those who haven't read the chapter today. You've been warned!

This is the final part of Ben's battle against Donald and it was exhilarating reading the fight. It's a testament to Ben's strength that he was able to hold out against Donald for that long. This is sort of an analysis + my general thoughts on Ben, Donald and Gray.

Ben and his strength

I feel like some ppl in the fandom are thinking Ben's weak for losing, but on the contrary. He is the ONLY PERSON who ever pushed Donald to the edge. With everyone else, Wolf, Jimmy, the Mokha duo etc, Donald beat to submission. Taking into account Ben's trauma from being beaten to a pulp by Donald in the past, it make him taking a stand against that nigh undefeatable monster even more of an amazing feat.

Ben's punches made Donald doubt himself, that if he got hit head on by Ben's sledgehammer punches he would 100% go down. I find the pillar imagery to be really effective in conveying the extent of Ben's raw power, as well as describing his general fighting style. As described by Gray, Ben is so strong that he ends all his fights in a single hit. He hasn't had to chain attacks or think too hard about battle tactics because he is just that strong. However, against an opponent like Donald, he had to start training harder and learning how to combo attacks. Ben's not the type to think of complicated attack patterns, so I really like that his method was to just get a punch in and focus on getting the next hit.

Aside from his physical power, Ben is also strong mentally. He is one of the pillars of Eunjang (along with Gerard) and has had to shoulder all the pressure of being the strongest and the one who has the highest chances of beating Donald one on one. Not only that he's usually the one who comforts and supports his friends, like when he helped out Gray and when he tried to cheer them up with snacks and drinks. However he keeps a lot of his struggles to himself. :(

His mental fortitude gives way to his willpower to succeed and persevere in his fight with Donald. Despite being beaten he passed out standing!!! And had to be physically brought to his knees.

To sum this section up, Ben is insanely strong and his fight against Donald demonstrates that. He isn't weak for losing, in fact it shows his strength to keep pushing forward.

Donald's Dominion

To really hammer in how significant Ben's fight against Donald was, aside from all the shocked expressions from all the side characters... I feel the need to discuss the sheer magnitude of Donald's power and influence over the Yeungdeungpo region (and to some extent over cheongang).

Donald is heavily involved with major industries around the region, such as construction, transport, garments, whatever you can think of he probably has a piece of the pie. His business sense is finely honed, to the point where seasoned adult professionals and old farts with power acknowledge his intellect and cunning, and fully trust Donald when it comes to managing businesses. Donald exercises his influence through his ability to manipulate the infrastructure and businesses which directly affect the other students.

For example, Donald and KHG uniforms collaborated, and the Ganghak thugs would beat up anyone not wearing a uniform from that brand. Next, the redevelopment scheme planned by Donald and a construction company CEO caused a lot of pollution and noise for the Singil Vet Clinic, owned by Eugene's aunt.

Donald has repeatedly showcased his overwhelming strength and intellect, as the leader of the Union and through his ability to keep hundreds of thugs in line. He beats dissenters into submission and is able to tame beasts like Myles Joo, Wolf Keum and the Mok-Ha duo. He even defeated Changhui Han, leader of Cheongang. His combined brains and brawn elevate him to almost unbeatable status.

The only ones that could possibly challenge him now would be Ben Park and Gray Yeon. But after Ben's defeat, Gray is the only one left to challenge him.

Arrogance and Downfall

Donald's kingdom started to crack once Gray started making moves. It's clear he got arrogant and slightly complacent because of all the power he has. Donald's thoughts "You're actually trying to beat me? Unacceptable." As if the thought someone legitimately trying to take him down was outrageous. As the strongest and the smartest he genuinely thought that he was unbeatable. His confidence in his strength turned into complacency, which is why he didn't notice when his plans started falling apart. This confidence in his perceived sovereignty caused him to not prepare for potential flaws in his plan. Such as when Gray showed up at the same hospital, when Eugene won the grand prize with his light switch idea, and when Ben managed to instil the fear of losing into him. Donald's image as the unbeatable monster began to waver, and start to crumble.

All these factors, and Ben significantly weakening Donald, set up the perfect opportunity for the White Mamba to land his killing blow.

Gray Yeon: Weak Hero

The last panel of ch 248 sent chills down my spine. Seeing Gray that serious with the eyes of a predator, really shows that he's the one with the edge in the fight. The narration describes how Gray, during that entire fight between Donald and Ben, was analysing Donald's fighting style; "studying up" as he usually puts it. And seeing Gray so sure of his odds of success, and him being ready to fight, makes it clear that there is a chance that he will win. Gray never fights if he cannot win.

I am particularly excited for this fight given the multiple parallels between Gray and Donald we've seen thus far. They've had lonely childhoods and were bullied during their school years albeit for different reasons. Donald grew up in a troubled household amidst poverty, while Gray was a loner who had no motivation in life until he met Stephen. Both of them are cunning and calculated and would do anything to win. Donald has a selfish motivation, while Gray fights for his friends.

Another difference in this fight that I think would give Gray the edge is that Donald is in a very threatened and disoriented state. He had just exposed his vulnerable side in front of the entire union, basically breaking the unbeatable facade he'd work so hard to maintain. He barely put it back together, and would have succeeded if not for Gray. Gray on the other hand has completely analysed Donald's fighting style. He has his emotions in check and is entirely focused on taking Donald down. Meanwhile Donald has no idea what fighting Gray is going to be like, and according to the trend that everyone who fights Gray for the first time will lose.... it seems the odds will be in his favour.

Donald, in his weakened state, is definitely still a force to be reckoned with and Gray is not gonna have an easy time fighting him, especially since they're so similar. I believe in Gray though! He can do it!

Overall

The final fight to end all fights is coming up real soon! (for free readers that is) And I feel like the final battle arc is well paced, though I was kinda disappointed the Naksung v Philip fight got offscreened. Super hyped for Donald vs gray and I might reread the whole final battle arc again.

⋆ jihoon’s family is pretty small, with it just being him and his grandma. his parents haven’t been in his life for a long time, so his relationship with them is strained, to say the least-

⋆ his parents weren’t ready for a kid when they had him, nor was their marriage the most loving; lots of fighting, both verbal and physical. he was often at school or with his grandma, so he wasn’t too exposed to it, but it affected him nonetheless ;; when he showed up to his grandma’s with a bruised wrist, she moved him in with her w/ the promise that she'd always keep him safe

⋆ she's tried her best to give him a good life and while he struggles w/ expressing it, he's incredibly grateful; she's one of the few people he doesn't give shit to lol

⋆ they spend plenty of time together when jihoon isn't busy !! his favorite thing to do after a long day is watch late-night tv together, while enjoying some of his granny's homemade samgyetang (he's totally not a grandma's boy, but he loves her cooking over anything else lol). helps her in the kitchen p often, be it cooking or baking; he says it's so he's not living off convenience store food when he's older, but in reality ?? he likes how rewarding it is when the food comes out right :))

⋆ he'll never say it, but deep down he wishes things with his parents were different. he acts like he doesn't give a fuck, that he's better off anyway, yet secretly yearns for their love ;;; its part of his pride as he wants to prove — not just to them, but to himself — that he's stronger without them, while simultaneously wishing they'd even care

⋆ grandma bae always reminds him of how special and loved he is, tho :(( and despite how he feels, jihoon wouldn't want to be raised by anyone else~

jake ji / ji hakho

⋆ we already know about kenny, but i still wanted to write a bit about the rest of the ji family sooo !!

⋆ it's just them and their momma ! their dad walked out a few years back, right before kenny joined manwol and the whole incident ;; they've seen him once or twice since, for holidays, but even that was over a year ago- both are still coming to terms with it, since they adored their dad so much ;; hakho especially, who can't help but feel abandoned

⋆ the only person he confides in about his troubles (other than dean) is his brother; he trusts him more because he can relate to him in ways his friends can't, and kenny gives the best advice, so he feels there's nobody he can rely on more :(( bc he admires him so much, kenny's approval is also important to hakho, who feels guilty for getting involved in delinquent gang shit despite how desperately kenny tried protecting him from it ;; he wants nothing more than to make him proud, but right now ?? he fears he's only letting him down

⋆ little does he know that kenny loves + supports him regardless, because what kinda brother would he be if he didn't ??

⋆ they have an alright relationship with their mom- their dad was the main parent, while mom worked full-time, so she never had time to really bond with the boys ;; now, being a single parent, it's made it all the more apparent just how absent she's been. she's trying her best to be more involved, though it's hard ;; she often gets frustrated because she wants them to stop getting in trouble and just . be what she wants; what she fails to realize is that they're going to make mistakes, and they're depending on her for guidance and understanding :// she'll come around eventually, but...

⋆ they do have a dog !! he's 6-7 years old + was kenny's dog first, so he's more attached to him than hakho lol ;; he's a super energetic German Shepherd named ddori, and they're currently training him to be something of a service pet, to help out kenny during his recovery :))) it works out well, since lil ddori loves having tasks to do (and it keeps him from making messes lol)

⋆ overall their home life is very simple !! hakho often hopes that his life will miraculously go back to how it was before his dad left, although it won't change everything with kenny ;; he knows it's a moot point, but a part of him will always being wishing — and waiting — for things to be "normal" again ,,,

wolf keum / keum seongje

⋆ maybe it’s just me, but seongje has always seemed like an older brother; to a younger sister, specifically (like . elementary school age) :D

⋆ she looks like a mini version of him: she’s got darker hair but it’s as unruly as his, and her eyes are a copy-paste of his own- the only thing she didn’t get is his personality, which is probably for the best :,)

⋆ they were closer when seongje was little, although he wasn’t excited to be a brother at first- i imagine he was the kid who didn’t want siblings because then they'd get all the attention lol, but once he met his sister, his opinion changed very quick :)) because their parents were often busy with work (i see them as business people, like ceos or whatnot), he helped take care of her: made sure she was fed, got to school safe, etc.~ they didn't play toys or games together, because she'd always cry when she lost, but they had a sweet lil bond :((

⋆ during middle school he grew isolated from his family. his relationship with his parents wasn't the best, since they had their own plans for him as the eldest, and the weight of them was incredibly suffocating ;; his dad was always the worst about it, becoming verbally abusive when seongje didn't keep up with his expectations. it's all the more reason for him to hate being controlled by others, since it only reminds him of how stifling his parents are

⋆ but now, with all the fighting and drinking/smoking and shit, they're just.. disappointed. his mom is a little more forgiving because she still sees him as her baby, but his dad ?? not so much ,, he tries picking fights about it constantly, but seongje doesn't bother responding (and honestly ? he gave up trying to please them a longgg time ago)

⋆ a part of him wishes he hadn't pulled away from his sister, too, but he thinks there's no point in trying to be a "good" brother now- she still talks to him about her week and seongje (either out of habit or genuine care) makes her breakfast on the weekdays, when it's just the two of them. it's always something simple, like cereal or toast, but it's thoughtful :) he knows he'll never be someone she can look up to, but he's trying, in his own little ways~

forrest lee / lee sehan

⋆ he’s one of two kids (+ a puppy) born to a very doting set of parents :(( there's only a two-year difference between him and his little brother, but they act like oil and water- probably because his lil bro is the spoiled one, so he acts wayyy less mature than he should be

⋆ sehan looks out for him tho !! despite all their petty fights and rough-housing, he cares about him. so if ppl at school are giving him a hard time, or if he’s struggling with something, he always knows he can turn to sehan for some brotherly advice~

⋆ has a good relationship w/ his parents, too ! his mom works as teacher so she's a stickler about grades, but it actually benefits him bc he can always get her help with homework or whatnot. (tho she never does it for him lmao) he’s actually smarter than he seems bc of this :,) not an honor student or anything, but his parents are proud of him nonetheless~

⋆ his dad is a stay-at-home father who adores his kids v much !! he regularly showers them w/ gifts and tons of affection; he's not very good with saying "no" to them, either, so the two end up having plenty of leeway lol- the only thing their parents don't like is seeing sehan come home all bruised and bloodied — they can't help but worry !! they think he's being bullied and is too embarrassed to tell them buttt ,, if only they knew :,)

⋆ their puppy is a one year-old Jindo named bokdungi :(( he's a rescue dog and veryyy shy. however, lil bokdungi is pretty attached to sehan~ is typically found laying by his feet during dinner or cuddling w/ him on the couch while he watches tv (probably some mystery/crime drama, i can see him and his dad enjoying shows like that together loll)

⋆ overall he's got a good life and a happy family to support him :)) he often worries that they'll find out about the union and be disappointed — or worse,, but he tries not the think about it, and just enjoys how peaceful their home is right now

donald na / na baekjin

⋆ poor baekjin ,,,, he's been on his own for years now, so i don't think he has much family to talk about

⋆ his childhood was rough. love and stability were foreign concepts in his house, since his father was very abusive towards him and his mom — verbally and especially physically ;; it didn't help that his classmates were no different, so it seemed wherever he turned, there was always someone in his life letting him down

⋆ of course, his mom tried her best to support him. she was unemployed, but what little money she had she would spend on him ;; it wasn't fancy, only matchbox cars or toys from quarter machines, but baekjin cherished them nonetheless :(( his dad often broke them during his outburts, so baekjin would hide them until that also stopped working; the only one he has left is a mini figurine (probably some cartoon character knockoff, lol) that rests in his nightstand, for safekeeping ofc

⋆ his mom would bake often, too !! they didn't have much for food, but his mom was good at making breads and pastries from scratch, and he loved watching her do it ;; it's some of the only peaceful memories he has. probably why he's such a bread fiend now lol, but no matter how great the bakery ones are, they're just... not the same as his mom's ,,

⋆ despite this, there isn't much he can look back on fondly;; his dad had a lot of problems (i feel like alcoholism, but probably a lot of anger issues + narcissism as well) that he never dealt with, and instead inflicted his frustration onto baekjin and his mom ;; and while she tried to protect him when she could, she couldn't save him from it completely. it fucked him up, severely. so even those few good memories are hard to enjoy without all sorts of conflicting emotions bubbling up to surface

⋆ as for the rest of his family ?? he isn't close with them. his father kinda isolated them from both sides of the family, as a lot of abusers do, so he never got a chance to really know them ;; his uncle tried, though ! he'd send him birthday + christmas gifts, and would visit every so often, but they fell out of contact once baekjin escaped his situation :(( he knows he could seek him out and actually build an uncle-nephew bond w/ him, but he's so preoccupied with the union + depending solely on himself that he sees no point in relying on family now ;;

⋆ which is a shame, because if he did turn to them, his uncle and aunt would be more than willing to let him into their lives and show him how loving + nurturing a home can be :((

⋆ hwangmo enthusiasts… ARISEEEEE !!!!!!

⋆ hwangmo is a mommas boy i fear :( it's been the two of them his whole life, since his dad wanted nothing to do with raising him. it bugged him more when he was little bc he didn’t understand why his dad wasn’t around and thought it was his fault, but he's not as hurt now

⋆ has a lot of respect towards his mom for being a single, working mother :(( she raised him to be responsible, so he does his best to make her life a little easier lol + it's his way of appreciating her. helps out a lot around the house, cleans up after himself, cooks dinner once a week, etc- she still makes his lunches, tho :,)

⋆ they have a good relationship tho !! they try and make time to go out and do fun things like karaoke or bowling~ his mom worked in a salon for years, so he lets her practice on his hair so her skills don't get rusty, lol- he tries to hide all the fights he gets into, but his mom's intuition is stronger than he thinks. she doesn't bug him about it, because he's a good kid otherwise, but she worries ;;

⋆ is also really close with his grandparents !! his grandpa more-so, since he's always been a father-figure to hwangmo. he's the first person hwangmo goes to for advice, and some of his fondest memories are from going fishing with him as a kid :((( his grandparents moved to the countryside not long ago, but he stays with them during school vacations, or calls them once in a while to chat

⋆ no siblings, but he does have a really old, chunky Himalayan cat named geureumi to fill the void :,) she's friendly but a lil toooo clingy. hwangmo doesn't mind, but bc she sleeps by his legs at night, he worrries about kicking her off the bed by accident-

⋆ DEF an only child, and a spoiled one at that-

⋆ his mom and dad both work in the health/beauty industry ! his dad as an mua and his mom as an esthetician. when he was little he would often follow his dad to work (who begrudingly let him-) and found the amount of effort and creativity put into makeup to be super fascinating~

⋆ an aside; because of this, seokhee for sure fux around with makeup- like. yes he canonly wears black lipstick but you can’t tell me he doesn’t spend 15 minutes every morning putting on eyeliner + concealer too… i feel like his parents encouraged his self-expression from a young age, even thru all his weird phases :,) that being said, he’ll never admit that he moonlights as an mua; took him until the end of middle school to own up to the lipstick, only because he spent the first years trying to convince everyone that “no it’s just how my lips look, i swear-”

⋆ his parents divorced when he was in middle school ;; his dad has custody, but he stays with his mom on the weekends + holidays/vacation. he likes living with her more than his dad because she actually cares about him ;; his dad is a workaholic and just... isn't that interested in seokhee's life :// very emotionally distant; he tries buying his love with expensive gifts, but what seokhee really wants is for him to ask about his day, or listen when he talks ,,, it's kinda why he's so desperate for attention and feeling included, because he doesn't get that at home (and also he's just really arrogant...)

⋆ his mom is better about parenting him, tho. maybe not as involved as she could be, but she doesn't take the time she gets with him for granted :)) they often go on trips when he's out of school !! not super far, but he enjoys getting away and spending time together~ his favorite place they've gone is Jeju Island; they visited the waterfalls there not long after his parents' divorce and it was... comforting, in a way

⋆ his dad has a Bichon Frise named heoni ! her and seokhee do NOT get along, unfortunately ;; he was a stupid kid and played w/ her too much, and so she bit off a chunk of his finger off in return :/// he's tried making it up to her by giving her toys and treats but... she's not having it-

Gray is kind even when he isn't nice. There's also his history with Stephen who could also be rather embarassing... What I'm getting at is that he wouldn't care in the slightest if the present he got from his s/o was ugly. He'll notice the ugliness of course but there won't be a single trace of disgust on his face, only tenderness. He'll wear it if it's clothes, use it if it's something that's supposed to be used, keep it if it's some kind of souvenir (he would prefer more or less useful things though). If someone says something rude about the present and/or his significant other, the punishment might range from mild tongue lashing to a violent beating depending on the tone of voice used and the things said.

Ben Park

The king ang god of all simps. No-one simps quite as hard as Big Ben. Wdym the present is ugly??? Where ugly??? He can't see it, cuz it's just so cute!!! Wears/uses it proudly. People can laugh at him, but he's just so proud of his s/o and that they got him a present he has no care for the fools. Everyone is getting used to it fast, and the next time you give him something ugly-cute no-one reacts. But he's gonna get you similar presents, y'know? They are going to ride the edge between the cute and the ugly, and he's gonna be very embarrassing about the whole thing.

Alex Go

Alex would love to be more like Ben but... he can't. He knows how most people view him - someone weak, dependent, little more than Ben's minion. Doesn't matter that it's not the truth, it's how he's viewed, how people treat him, and it's bound to affect how they treat his s/o. So when the s/o gives him the present, he simultaneously feels happy, sad, insecure, guilty. He knows it's important to them, so he'll use it - just not all that often. Will quietly blame himself for being a coward. But once he gets more confident (mostly in his fighting skills but overall too)? He's never gonna part with this present.

Gerard Jin

Gerard doesn't care. Period. I mean, man sleeps on school desks and in the bushes. He cares very little for random people's opinions. And people who are not random won't be assholes to him about the thing. So, if it's usable he'll use it, and if it's wearable he'll wear it. Won't be as over the top about the whole thing as Ben or as aggressive to commentators as some other people. Very chill.

Teddy Jin

You can see him cringe. Won't find it in himself to reject you outright seeing the hopeful expression on your face but as soon as he's out of your sight he'll stash it in some hard to reach place and hope you'll forget. Please be merciful and forget! But if you ask him why he doesn't use it and act disheartened... He'll brace himself and start using the thing. His cheeks are red for days. He's very sensitive to laughs and comments, so everyone who does that and some people who don't but he thinks they do are going down. His friend group may be partly exempt from the punishment - but more because they're too strong than because they're his friends.

Rowan Im

Uses it trying not to show how embarrassed he is. 'It's popular af in Australia dude. I tell you, Korea just haven't caught up yet, but it'll be a huge thing in a year or so'. Manages to convince half Eunjangs to use/wear the same thing. Everyone else thinks it's just weird Eunjang shit, cuz Eunjang is such a shithole.

The Union

Donald Na

A single raised eyebrow. Depending on the particular type of ugliness he can either be rather amused or not amused at all. Not a chance he's going to wear/use it in public, he cares too much about his image. Can be persuaded to keep in his office desk though... But if someone, except for Kingsley, somehow saw him with the thing, he'd act totally unbothered and start to actually use it as often as he can. It's the new cool now. Every Union member and even people outside the Union get themselves similar things and Donald can and will lord over them the fact that his thing is a gift from his s/o and thus immensely more valuable, but most Union guys are probably incapable of getting themselves a significant other.

Jake Ji

Jake knows the present is ugly and lowkey doesn't want it because he's got taste. Depending on the type of ugly will either keep it at home and use it there or actually make it a part of his style. Not embarrassed exactly but... He's got an aesthetic going, y'know? Gotta keep up!

Wolf Keum

Wolf doesn't care about the cuteness nor the the ugliness. What the present actually has to conform to is his particular style or maybe his senses. It can be not about how the thing looks but instead about how it feels, how it smells, what the material is like. His standards aren't very high, y'know? But even if the present doesn't meet any of his standards and he refuses to use it, he'll give in if you pester him enough. He'll actually be glad when someone laughs at him or makes a stupid comment giving him a reason to beat them up. Might just thank his s/o.

Jimmy Bae & Jack Kang

I'm writing them as a poly now cuz Jimmy alone manages to annoy tf out of me and I bet my ass he'd affect his s/o or even Jack's more or less the same... Neither of them are thrilled. Tf if this thing? Are you kidding them? Jimmy can actually say that, Jack will be a little more considerate (or maybe just colder). Jimmy can actually throw the present away but will feel so bad about it afterwards he'll get it back from the dumpster. They'll use it at home, alright? And maybe even in public on your b-day! That's super generous, y'know? So stop being mad at them already! (Meanwhile, Jack stoically explains to you how being seing with the thing would affect their reputation.) All in all, they can be persuaded to use the present on the daily basis... but will be unbearably grumpy and annoyed about it.

Forrest Lee

Won't outright reject your present but won't be seen in public with it either. It's hard enough for him already to appear powerful enough to be one of the Union's executives. He needs to give off threatening vibes, and your present certainly won't help with that. He'll treasure it though and apologize to you for not being able to use it as intended. Maybe will sleep with it or something.

Myles Joo

Define 'cute', and then define 'ugly'. He'd probably prefer ugly things over cute ones tbh. If it's an ugly sweater he may wear it at home in winter. Ugly hoodie? Bring it on. It just has to match his overall vibe, and then he's good.

Dongha Baek

Laughs super loudly. 'Fuck, it's so fucking ugly!' You may be anxious or disheartened for a moment, but he doesn't mean anything bad by this. He'll wear/use the thing, and every time someone says 'dude, tf is that ugly thing?' he'll be like 'Ikr? So fucking ugly! Love that shit!' He's thrilled. Will love it if you give him something else like this.

+ Grape

Now that's a bad idea. Grape is rather vain, so distasteful things are really not up his alley. Will look at the present with disgust and refuse to use it. If you're super sad about it or continue to pester him, he might give in... for a moment. He'll hold the thing in his hands, steeling himself for the utter embarrassment awaiting him... but he still won't find it in himself to use it in public. Will make it up to you some other way though.
