A Brother’s gift

A little short wip of Taliana’s necklace ‘Silver Guidance.’

Author’s Note: Forgot you couldn’t put magicka regen on necklaces, but in the story the enchantment is magic resistance and magicka regeneration.

Author’s Note 2: I made slight changes to fit her backstory better, the necklace in game is gold now, so it’s “Golden Guidance” now.

Taliana mindlessly twirled her butterfly necklace with her slim fingers. The fire crackled before her as she stared into the flames. The shadows casted upon her sharp features. Taliesin shifted his weight as he poked the fire, making the flames roar. The orange glow wrapped around Taliana’s face and mirrored in her glossy amber eyes.

“I noticed you never take that off, it must be special.” Taliesin commented as his eyes landed on the beautiful, gold, blue necklace around Taliana’s neck.

“It was a gift from my older brother.” She replied, she didn’t look up as she spoke.

“Ah yes, I remember you mentioning you were a younger sibling. Have you heard from your brother? What’s his name?” Taliesin questioned inquisitively. Taliana inhaled sharply, her eyes finally meeting her companion’s. Their gaze clashed.

“Was.” She said meekly as she continued to twirl the necklace. Taliesin gulped,

“My apologies and my deepest sympathies. I had no idea.” He replied as he looked down.

“His name was Carin, and he was one of the sweetest Altmer you ever met. His hair was the color of the Gold Coast and his eyes a glimmering diamond color. His skin kissed by Kyne’s summer sun. He had a fiery passion for art. Specifically blacksmithing.” Taliana explained. Taliesin only listened.

“He was training as an apprentice when he made this for me. He enchanted it too, then gifted it to me when I was training at the Mage’s Guild in Alinor as an elfling. His nickname for me was Butterfly and I always wore golden gowns, so it fit me perfectly.” Taliana chuckled breathlessly with crystal tears as she held the necklace tight.

“He told me, now wherever you are, I will always be protecting you as long as you wear it.” She continued as she bit her lip, holding back tears.

“The necklace even has a name, it’s called: Golden Guidance.” Taliana added as she looked up again.

“Would you mind my asking of how he...passed away?” Taliesin questioned; Taliana’s expression shifted at that moment. Her head snapped up and her lips pursed,

“He was murdered.” She hissed. Taliesin’s eyes widened.

“After the Great War broke out, my brother was taken away by the Dominion and forced to forge weapons and armor for the troops. During one of the many tiresome nights, my brother fell to the ground defeated and couldn’t work anymore. They worked him to his weakest point and then they butchered him because he was of no use to them like that.” Taliana explained. Her expression stiff and cold.

“Those bastards murdered my brother, and I will never forgive them, so help me, Mara.” Taliana snarled. Taliesin bowed his head; he couldn’t imagine that kind of pain. His sisters annoyed him, but to lose one of them or even both, the pain would put a hole in place of his heart.

“I’m truly sorry, I can’t imagine the pain of your suffering.” Taliesin said sympathetically. He sighed and looked down. Taliana was quiet as she stared into the flames again. A silence dropped over them before Taliana spoke again.

“I promise to hunt down all of them.”
