Personal walkthrough/how to play - Love and Producer EN (Mr Love Queen’s Choice)
Tumblr media
Here’s my personal walkthrough/how to play, Love and Producer EN (Mr Love Queen’s Choice)
This is my first attempt to write a “How to Play” guide, so it’s a little messy and all over the place. I tried to make it sound connected and divide it into sections, but it could need some cleanup. It would be nice to add pictures to make this look less like a big block of text, but we’ll see. Maybe I’ll change it later...
I have played this since it launched in China back in 2017!
*Will/might update, but it’s kinda finished* <-- I realize some things feel “normal” to me, but might be confusing to others, so I’ll try to explain them step by step when I get the time!

THIS IS WHAT THE HOME SCREEN LOOKS LIKE WHEN YOU START. AS YOU PROGRESS, MORE THINGS WILL APPEAR:
Tumblr media
Before I start, I would like to point out that although there are a lot of functions and things to do, it’s not as intimidating as it seems. It looks intimidating at first glance, but if you take your time instead of rush through the game, it will be easier. I would like to point out that the mechanics are very much like Love Nikki (another Chinese game also by Elex). It has almost all the same functions, plus a few extra. So if you already play Love Nikki (or played it before), then that will help a lot.
NOTE:  After progressing to a certain point, you will unlock more features. That means, not everything is unlocked when you start, so it’s not too overwhelming.
Tumblr media
HERE’S THE HOME SCREEN. I ADDED SOME TEXT/INFORMATION TO MAKE IT “EASIER” TO UNDERSTAND. I ALSO ADDED THINGS THAT DOES NOT YET EXIST IN THE ENGLISH VERSION (it’s only up to chapter 10)
CHARACTERS
First, what is the “point” of the game?
You (main character), 22 years old, takes over your fathers TV production company and you wish to produce amazing TV shows. It’s not doing well and the sponsor is pulling out. Along the way, you get the help from four men (love interests): a 28 years old CEO named Li Zeyan (Victor), a 24 years old police officer/agent named Bai Qi (Gavin), a 26 years old scientist named Xu Mo (Lucien), and a 22 years old idol named Zhou Qiluo (Kiro).
Ok, so even though the game is Chinese and released by the original Chinese company, the English version does not include the original Chinese voices! It’s dubbed into English. But once you start playing, you can download a Japanese voice pack? Makes no sense. So here’s a list of what the characters are named:
Li Zeyan - Victor - Zen Bai Qi - Gavin - Haku Xu Mo - Lucien - Shimon Zhou Qiluo - Kiro - Kira
CITY WALKS & DATES
In addition to the main story, you have “side stories” (kinda) for each guy. These happen by going on “City Walks” where you help people or do other types of missions. This will make the love interest like you more, and will result in more “Dates.” These “Dates” are dates/romantic scenarios with him. You need certain cards as well. NOTE: There are different types of “City X”, look further down the page.
SHOOTS
As for the main story, you have to do “Shoots”, as in you shoot episodes of your show. This is where “Karma” (cards) come in. You collect cards and other items to advance. You want to make successful TV shows, and getting good cards is the way to go. These are ranked as N (normal), NH, R (rare), SR (super rare), and SSR (the most rare and best). These cards can be evolved, star up, and lvl up. As for the story, you can go back and re-read/watch the story any time you want. See “Missions & Rewards” for more information.
COLLECTING KARMA (CARDS)
Cards, called Karma, are your units to do everything in the game. You use them to “fight” and progress throughout the story.
Collecting cards can be done through different ways, but the “easiest” way is by paying real money. I’m not saying you have to pay money! You can easily play the whole game for free. I’m just saying it’s nice to support things you love, right? You can also pay a monthly subscription fee, it’s $3,99 USD (30 yuan). Other than that you can get them through the gacha (Wish Tree), special events, or merging Shards together.
These cards has a lot of functions. You need to level them up to make them stronger. Every 10 lvl will give the chance to Star Up that card, giving it bonus stats. When reaching the cap, you can Evolve the card, increasing the lvl cap and changing the appearance of the card.
EXPERTS
Then there are “Experts” you can hire for your company to finish quests. You get these by either reading the main story or by exchanging “Medals” in the “Talent Market.” These can be upgraded with coins/gold (free in-game currency), and will up the score of your company, which is useful in “Shoots.”
MISSIONS & REWARDS
All “Shoots” and “Footage” will be rated with 1-3 crowns (3 being the best). You will always have the chance to re-do to get a better score, or all the crowns if you didn’t get them all on the first try. When you succeed one, also have a chance to receive special items. These also costs stamina (hearts) to do, which are replenished as time goes by. Doing one once costs 5 stamina. Also note that they got “Keywords” or “Strengths” on the description. Selecting Experts with those Keywords, or cards with those Strengths, will up your success. This will also give your cards exp. Rewards are items to star up cards.
ELITE MISSIONS
This will unlock after Chapter X (forgot which). This is just like the normal Shoots, except they’re harder and give “better” rewards. These rewards are items to evolve cards. Each has a limit of 3 per day. In terms of Love Nikki, “Elite” is the same as Princess Stage. These are more difficult but will give greater rewards. Each costs 8 stamina.
FOOTAGE
Footage is like Shoots and Elite. It has a cap of 10 but will regenerate one every hour. Each stage has a max of 3 and there are 6 parts so far. Doing these will give Shards as rewards.
MISCELLANEOUS
Sometimes you get “Shards” and when you have enough shards, you can combine them into a card. These Shards can be obtained when doing “Footage” or from the gacha. “Footage” has a limit of 3 per day. However you use Film, not Stamina, and that has a max of 10. It regenerates every hour.
After progressing to a certain point, you will unlock more features.
When reaching Chapter 3, you will be able to do “Training.” Once you finish training a Card, you receive rewards and lvl up. You can also Train your company stats.
SHARDS
Shards are given from “Footage” or from “Wish Tree” (gacha). You can combine them into a card (Karma) for gold (free in-game currency).
R card = 15k gold
SR card = 30k gold
SSR card = 60k gold
COMBINING SHARDS
When you have a certain number of shards, you can combine them into a card (Karma). Combining them costs Gold (free in-game currency). Here are the requirements:
R card - 30 shards - 15k gold
SR card - 50 shards - 30k gold
SSR card - 80 shards - 60 gold
PHONE
Then there’s the Phone. You can call, send messages, and post on social media or comment. Doing these things will increase intimacy with the love interests. Remember to check your phone often to see if there are new posts on social media or text messages. Phone calls will be notified. You do not have to be awake at specific times to receive these and you can open them whenever you want without them disappearing.
GACHA
The “Wishing Tree” is the gacha. There are two types of gachas, the “Gem Karma” and “Gold Karma.” The Gem one is free once every 48 hours and will cost Gems otherwise (Gems cost real money). The Gold one is free once every 24 hours and will cost Gold otherwise. Also, each time you do one, you will get  “Heart Petal” (think of it as a shard) and when you have enough, you can combine them into a “Flower”, which can be exchanged for limited cards.
WHAT TO DO WITH CARDS YOU DON’T WANT
Sometimes you get more than one of a card, or you simply don’t care for it. When this happens, you can “shred” it. Basically, you can exchange it for Memory Stardust, which is used to Evolve cards. Just press the Karma Pass button (it’s yellow).
DAILY REWARDS/QUESTS
Achievements give you daily rewards for completing specific requirements daily.
Just like Love Nikki, you will also recieve free Stamina twice a day, at 12-14 and 18-20. This is either 30 or 60 Stamina! And like all mobile games, there are daily login rewards.
BOX OFFICE CONTEST
Lastly, there’s the “Box Office Contest” and “Achievement.” The “Box Office Contest” is like a PvP where you “fight” other players and receive medals. There are 5 free tries every day. The next day you will receive a gift depending on how high you ranked.
CITY NEWS
You need to finish ch X to unlock this (I forgot which). This is a minigame that depends on your 3 strongest cards (Karma). You pick 3 (they will be by default, so if you get stronger cards later, you need to switch them out manually), and they will give a combined score. When “News” pop up, you go to investigate and “help” people. You get 3 questions and you click one of three choices for each. This can be re-done unlimited times, so don’t worry if you answer wrong. Between each question you have to tap the screen as quick as possible (repeatedly, think of a gauge bar, where each tap will fill it). As you finish more and more of these “News”, you lvl up your detective? skill and receive items as you progress. As your level up in detective skill, you can unlock even more experts, get better rewards, and you can use more than just 3 cards.
CITY CRUISE
You need to finish ch X to unlock this (I forgot which).
EVENTS
Events happen often enough. In the beginning of English release, it might be slow, but it should pick up over time. During events, you can get free SR cards and maybe SSR cards if you’re lucky. Events vary in content and are done differently. Some can be limited Wish Tree cards, some can be collect items from doing Shoots, or from doing Strolls, etc. or other things. It really depends on the event.
EVOLVE
You need to finish ch X to unlock this (I forgot which).
In order to Evolve a card, you need a certain amount of items, Memory Stardust, and gold. Here are the amounts:
R card - 30k gold
SR card - 60K gold
SSR card - 120k gold
CITY WALK/STROLL
Your avatar walks around meeting the love interests and other citizens, helping people or having mini scenes with him. Helping people will increase his fondness of you (intimacy), which lets you go on dates more often. It also gives you bonus rewards and items. No need to rush with this, it refreshes once a week.
24 HR CHALLENGE
Challenge 24 other players around your lvl/strength. Each stage will give rewards. When clearing at least 12 stages, you can quick clear, meaning you can skip X number of stages but still get the rewards from these. Doing this will not weaken your cards either, making it possible to clear stages that were too hard. You can only Quick Clear a specific amount, at max it’s 16 stages or 18 stages (VIP). Any more than this you have to fight manually.
These battles are done by using 1-3 cards that are at least lvl 20. Look at the requirements (card strengths) to know what cards you should use. Doing these battles will “damage” your cards, meaning their strengths will decrease. When reaching 0 strength they will be 100% damaged and can no longer fight.
You can reset this once every day, doing so will put you back on Stage 1, and all rewards you didn’t claim will disappear.
VIP Supply (Monthly Subscription)
Pretty cheap, it costs the same as a cup of coffe. For $3,99 USD every month, you get this:  - 30 gems every day, lasts 30 days.  - double rewards on the login card - 20 max stamina increase - 50% extra exp  - 300 gems instantly

My Top 10 Games of 2018
2018 was a solid year for video games. There were a lot of games that I ended up liking a lot more than I thought I would, and a couple of indie surprises as well. I think 2017 was a very hard act to follow and as such I’ve had a tough time deciding the order this time around, but in the end I still feel very good about the 10 games on this list.
10. Return of the Obra Dinn (Lucas Pope)
Tumblr media
What a surprise this turned out to be. I bought Obra Dinn based solely on the fact that it was Lucas Pope’s next game and much like Papers, Please, it’s a very unique type of game. In Obra Dinn you are charged with investigating the mysterious return of a ship thought to be lost at sea, whose crew had all mysteriously perished or disappeared. You walk around looking for dead bodies of the crew, and using your magic compass you are able to view a tableau pinpointing the moment of their death. Using this information it’s your job to fill in the journal and figure out how each and every member of the 60-person crew died and who or what killed them. There’s a lot of guesswork involved since you aren’t given a lot of detailed information, but thanks to the fantastic audio cues it was one of the most satisfying and rewarding games I played all year.
9. Tetris Effect (Monstars Inc./Resonair)
Tumblr media
Tetris Effect is easily the coolest edition of Tetris made to date. In addition to being a wonderful VR experience on the same level of Rez Infinite or Thumper, Tetris Effect features almost everything a good Tetris game ought to have. Plenty of different game modes are included such as classics like Marathon or Sprint to the weirder ones like new Purify or Mystery modes. But the standout is definitely Journey mode. Functioning as a campaign, this mode takes you across almost 30 unique stages each featuring its own incredible dynamic music that progresses as you clear lines, and beautiful visuals that are greatly enhanced in VR. I expect this will be the game I keep coming back to from this year to play every now and again, and will definitely be my go-to Tetris game.
8. HITMAN 2 (IO Interactive)
Tumblr media
A follow-up to 2016′s HITMAN (and my personal #2 game of that year), HITMAN 2 expands upon it in almost every way. The briefcase is back. Blending mechanics have been added for big crowds and bushes. The levels are orders of magnitude larger and while there’s only 5 of them, they’re all of the quality of 2016′s Sapienza level. There are also a couple of new modes too. One of which is a Sniper Assassin level where you are perched in a sniper’s nest overlooking a wedding and given many targets to take out, and the other is a multiplayer versus mode where you race against another player to take out a target faster.
But perhaps the most pleasantly surprising improvement has been in the quality of writing, specifically for 47′s character. You can tell they spent a lot more time ensuring he has lines for some of the more whacky scenarios he can end up in, especially when he gets the chance to talk directly to his targets. HITMAN 2 is ultimately more of the same, but it’s a lot more and definitely the game worth picking up if you’re a fan of the series or stealth games in general.
7. Yakuza 6 & Yakuza KIWAMI 2 (SEGA)
Tumblr media
Unlike last year with 0 and KIWAMI, I feel very similarly about the two Yakuza games that came out this year so I thought they should occupy the same spot. The main thing that sets these new releases apart from previous entries is the new Dragon Engine. It’s a pretty big departure in feeling from the previous combat engine, but it allows for a lot more freedom since street battles are no longer constrained to an arena. You can run as far as you like, you can drag enemies into nearby shops and restaurants, and the new ragdoll physics are utterly hilarious. Both games also feature a new side activity (a tower defense style game in Kiwami 2 and a reverse tower defense style game in 6) that ties in with well known members of NJPW.
As far as story goes, I think both of them are pretty good. Having never played 2 back in the day, it definitely holds up to and even surpasses some of the later games’ stories with one of the best antagonists of the series in Ryuji and an even better partner character in Kaoru. KIWAMI 2 also incorporates the cabaret club minigame from Yakuza 0 with a whole new storyline, and some great new substories. Yakuza 6 on the other hand is a pretty decent finale for Kiryu’s story. It makes some callbacks to previous games (especially 0 and 2) and some fun new characters along with the vibrant new location of Onomichi. It’s sad that Kiryu’s story is over now, but I still have a strong hope for the future of the series.
6. Deltarune (Toby Fox)
Tumblr media
Certainly the biggest surprise of the year was Deltarune. A new project from Undertale’s Toby Fox, Deltarune most notably features a new party system for battles and more detailed graphics. It’s got all the writing and music I’ve come to expect and love from Toby, a new cast of characters, and a promising story. Deltarune isn’t finished yet and it will be a long time before we see its conclusion, but Chapter 1 is an incredible start.
5. God of War (Santa Monica Studio)
Tumblr media
I didn’t expect to like the new God of War as much as I did. I grew up with the series and I wasn’t sure how to feel about this completely new over-the-shoulder direction. My worries were quickly put at ease however, with how much fun Kratos’ new axe was to use and all of the abilities you could unlock throughout the game. Perhaps my favourite part is the map itself; while it is an open-world game, it is the exact right size. It respects your time and you never take long to get somewhere interesting, and your exploration is rewarded adequetly. This design philosophy seems to be lost on a lot of modern open-world developers and its refreshing to see it done right in God of War. As for the story, it goes in a very interesting direction and the dynamic between Kratos and his son Atreus unfolds in some satisfying ways, managing to give Kratos some real character development beyond angry bald man. They are definitely using this one to setup more God of War games, and they have revitalized my excitement for the future of this series for the first time in a decade.
4. Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna - The Golden Country (Monolith Soft)
Tumblr media
The Golden Country takes place 500 years before XC2 and outlines the events leading up to it. There are many familiar faces, and the story expands upon many events Rex and his party learn about in the base game. Much of the game takes place on Torna and its a varied location with lots of different environments and enemy types. The biggest improvement from XC2 is the battle system. It’s a lot more straightforward this time around because there’s no more core crystal system where you have to do gacha pulls to get new random blades. There’s just the 3 party members and their two main character blades which makes for guaranteed combo and chain attack potential throughout the game, whereas before you would have to get lucky and try to optimize for it. Clocking in at about 30 hours, I think one could definitely make the case for playing this expansion either before XC2 to see the story setup, or playing it after for appreciating the character development. You can tell a tremendous amount of love and care went into making this expansion, and being included in the XC2 season pass makes it a tremendous value.
3. Monster Hunter World (Capcom)
Tumblr media
It’s been awhile since I got so obsessed with a specific game that I wanted to do nothing else but play it when I wasn’t at work or asleep but Capcom did it. Having only played 4U previously on the 3DS for about 60 hours, it cannot be overstated how much work they put into making this series more palatable. Whether it’s through streamlining weapon upgrades by showing us the weapon paths, or getting rid of consumable whetstones, or just showing us the direction the monster is in after collecting a couple of tracks, or finally upgrading from god damn PS2 models, or just putting it on a proper console again so I don’t have to get carpal tunnel from the 3DS. The list goes on and on about all the things that made this Monster Hunter the one that got me hooked. They’ve supported the game with a ton of free post-launch content too including new monsters and fun crossover skins. If there is any game to point to and say Capcom has cleaned up their act these last couple of years, this is it.
2. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Sora Ltd./Bandai Namco)
Tumblr media
There are a lot of things I could say about Ultimate, but I think the most important thing to remember is that it is an incredible collection of fighting game content. There are a ton of characters, stages (with 3 variants of each!), and almost a thousand songs. Sakurai has gone to even greater lengths to ensure that this game can be enjoyed by players of any inclination. Whether you like to play with stocks or stamina, or if you wanna use all items/no items/whichever items you like, there’s probably a rule setting for you. This is finally the Smash game that has gotten me interested in the competitive side, fighting one on one without items and as such I have an appreciation for it now. New characters like Incineroar, Simon/Richter, and K. Rool are a blast to play, and characters I missed in Smash 4 like Corrin, Ryu, Cloud, and Duck Hunt have been a blast too. The game has really rekindled my enjoyment of the series and I’m trying all sorts of characters I never would’ve before. I would be totally okay if this was the last Super Smash Bros. game, and I look forward to seeing what the future DLC characters end up being.
1. Valkyria Chronicles 4 (SEGA)
Tumblr media
VC4 is assuredly my favourite game of 2018. I’m a big fan of the fantasy alternate-universe WWII setting established in the first Valkyria Chronicles, and VC4 takes place around the same time. It follows the tale of the Federation Army’s Squad E led by commander Claude Wallace. Nearly every character is likeable in some way and all of them get some meaningful character development; the main characters through the story and the side characters through their own events where they interact with other members of the squad. The english voice actors really do a tremendous job selling these characters and their weird quirks. The gameplay is very similar to the first game with some new features like the Grenadier unit class or the halftrack APC you could use to quickly move multiple troops around the battlefield. If you are a fan of turn-based strategy, alternate history, or just straight up great characters I cannot recommend this game enough.
That’s all for my 2018 list. There are a few more games that I’d like to acknowledge from the year that didn’t quite make the top 10, but I’ll do that in a seperate post next week. If you’ve read this far, thank you so much for doing so. I’m very excited about the upcoming year in games!

Pokemon Masters First Impressions
I tend to play a lot of mobile games. The convenience and simplicity of them make them great for those moments where I wanna do something but also don’t really wanna do anything. Anyway here’s Pokemon Masters, a mobile game I’ve enjoyed a lot.
Now I got into Pokemon Masters very recently. I heard a lot of bad things about it on release, and much better things about it recently. However, I didn’t play it back then or pay close attention, so I can’t really weigh in on its history. Instead, I’m just going to be focusing on my opinions of the game in its current state.
Here’s the short version: I really enjoy this game. It’s fun to play and you can play however much you want without having to worry too much about falling behind. It’s possible to hit a dead stop fairly quickly though where you may not feel much motivation to keep playing for a bit, but that’s subject to personal tastes.
Alright let’s start with the core gameplay. Pokemon Masters is, generally, 3v3 battles. Either one player with three Pokemon, or three players with three Pokemon, against at least three enemy Pokemon. Instead of a classic system where one trainer has multiple Pokemon, the game uses what are called Sync Pairs, which is essentially a Trainer and a Pokemon. So your team of three Pokemon is actually a team of three Players and three Pokemon. It’s a weird system, but kinda cool for people who are fans of the trainers as well as the Pokemon.
The battle system is basically an action point based real-time system. You gain action points over time, which allow you to perform various moves with your various Pokemon. Using moves fills your Sync guage, which lets you use a Sync move, which is essentially an ultimate ability. It’s a very simple system, but factors like type advantage and various support effects add a decent amount of strategy to the game. Unlike a lot of mobile games I’ve played, I do actually feel rewarded for playing manually instead of using the obligatory auto-battle system on more challenging battles.
Tumblr media
Like any self-respecting modern mobile game, Pokemon Masters has a fairly deep progression system. Every Sync Pair has a level, a sync move level, a star-rating (rarity), and something called a sync grid. Sync Pairs gain levels either by battling or using exp items. They have a level cap, and the level cap can be raised using specific items, up to 120 for 5 star. A Sync Pair’s Sync Move level increases the effectiveness of its Sync move. It’s raised by obtaining duplicate copies of the Sync Pair, up to level 5. Once you hit Sync Move level 5, if you get another duplicate, you get a token that can be used to raise the star level of your Sync Pair, increasing its overall effectiveness. Also, each Sync Pair has active and passive moves that can be learned using various items. There’s also something called Lucky Moves, but I’ll be honest, I don’t know anything about that since I haven’t gotten to it yet, but it’s probably pretty neat.
The sync grid system is a bit messy at the moment. Essentially, it’s like a talent tree. Now, in my opinion the sync grid is one of the things that sets Pokemon Masters apart from the stock mobile RPG progression system. You’re limited on how many points you can put into a sync grid, which makes the progression a little less linear. You can’t just unlock every possible upgrade for a Sync Pair. Unfortunately, as it stands right now, only a few Sync Pairs actually have a full sync grid. Most just have a very simple grid with six generic nodes that can be maxed out very quickly.
On top of all of this, you have gear. Gear comes in three forms, bandanas, pins, and bracelets. You can only have one of each equipped at a time, and they offer various buffs to specific Pokemon types. The gear options so far have all been very simple, either attack boosts, special attack boosts, or HP boosts, but we could potentially see some really cool gear choices at some point. It’s also possible that they already exist and I just haven’t seen them yet.
So here’s the thing. Most of the things I just listed are super grindable. You have like daily tasks and what not that let you get more of them quicker, but if you don’t have any dailies, you can still just grind them. You can spend hours just grinding on auto and max out your level, level cap, moves, and sync grid on as many Sync Pairs as you want. The one kicker is getting new Sync Pairs, and by extension duplicate Sync Pairs for Sync Move level and star-rating. You get one copy of several Sync Pairs by playing story mode, and you can get them from events sometimes, but the main way is pulling them from the gacha with gems. I would say this game is relatively generous with gems, especially early on, but they aren’t really grindable after a certain point. Because of this you can definitely hit a point where all of your Sync Pairs, or at least the ones you care about, can’t really become stronger without needing gems. It’s not a huge issue, but it does mean Pokemon Masters may become a game you check in on daily instead of playing actively.
Anyway, overall I find Pokemon Masters to be a lot of fun. It could still use more content, particularly in story mode. There are several other game modes, including Co-Op Story, Training modes for grinding training items, Sync Pair Stories which lets you evolve Pokemon, and a progressive battle mode called Battle Villa that I can’t say much about because I haven’t played it much.
If anyone’s curious, my default team is Rosa/Serperior, Hilda/Emboar, and Karen/Houndoom.
Tumblr media
Rosa is the support, bringing Special Attack buffs and sync guage buff. Hilda is my standard DPS and Karen is my mega evolution DPS. If a Sync Pair has a mega evolution, it triggers after using their Sync Ability, so Hilda basically does damage until Houndoom can mega evolve then Karen takes over. I often swap out Hilda with various other Sync Powers to match type advantage, she’s just my default. I almost always use Karen as my Mega Evolution though, unless I’m against a team that’s weak to fighting or I need more physical damage, then I use Korrina/Lucario. Korrina/Lucario are a surprisingly strong pair despite being 3 star and I’ll probably use them a lot more once I can get that star rating-up, but for now they’re just a niche pick.
Anyway this has been me rambling about Pokemon Masters, thanks for reading and all that and have a nice day.
