The wind blew across her skin as she walked behind her friends. She listened to them talk ahead of her, excitedly chattering about something she couldn’t quite make out. Her outfit was ill fitted for the weather, more skin exposed than covered, that did nothing to keep her warm. They had been walking for about fifteen minutes, with ten more to go. If they didn’t freeze by then.
YN felt herself wobble in her heels, none of her friends ahead of her were waiting up for her. She just continued, not too bothered by silence, enjoying the peace in the atmosphere. She appreciated quiet moments, but couldn’t deny she felt a bit left out. She suddenly felt an arm sling around her shoulder, and turned to find who was next to her.
“Don’t be nervous,” She said playfully. Yunjin was dressed as a cowboy, a bandana tied around her neck, and a brown hat sat on her head. She said she was matching with the hosts of the party, two of her friends from class.
“I’m not nervous,” YN laughed, leaning into Yunjin. “I just don’t really want to go,” she confessed. YN was dressed like cupid, wearing a pair of little wings, and white boots that were too tall for her to walk in comfortably.
Yunjin smiled at the shorter girl. “If an hour passes and you still aren’t feeling it, then we’ll walk to the milkshake place,” She told her, lightly shaking her friend. “But you have to actually try to have fun, have a drink or something,”
YN nodded, but still felt reluctant. She was never the type to party, which was polar opposite to many of her friends, who spent a fair amount of their weekends at house parties thrown by other people at their school. YN didn’t blame them, she could see how they enjoyed the parties, but never really liked them herself. She didn’t like the crowds of strangers, or having to shout over everyone to talk to a friend, and she didn’t want to get drunk in a room full of strangers.
Her friends had convinced her to tag along with them, telling her it would be fun, and they would all stay together. It was halloween, she’d be so lame not to go. She agreed reluctantly, not holding much hope that she’d have a particularly good time. The group was made up of girls they’d met in class, all sweet, friendly girls, but Yunjin was the only one she was really close with.
When they got to the door and the host opened the door, YN could immediately gauge the atmosphere of the house. Loud, and crowded. Wonderful. The host, Shotaro, was in her chemistry class, and seemed to be close with Yunjin. He let them all in with a smile, and when she stepped foot into the building, the smell of weed, alcohol and body odor hit her senses immediately. As her group walked in, they all huddled for a moment, sticking together for the most part, until one by one, they began splitting off.
Yunjin kept her hand on YN’s, not wanting her to get lost in the crowd, leading them into the kitchen to get some drinks. She looked around cautiously before opening the fridge and grabbing two bottles of beer. No one was supposed to get into the fridge, but YN assumed it was okay since Yunjin was close to the host. She grinned as she handed her a bottle, and the two clinked their glasses together.
The two girls drank for a while, moving around from time to time whenever Yunjin felt like it. They laughed while trying to yell over the loud music, and the other people yelling around them, finding it amusing how the other would say ‘what?’ after every five seconds.
YN saw Yunjin look around the room, and wave to some people YN didn’t know. Yunjin turned back to her friend.
“Do you wanna come with?” she yelled, gesturing over to two boys dressed as cowboys.
“I’m okay, go talk to them!” YN yelled back.
“Are you sure?” Yunjin asked, not wanting to leave her friend.
“Yes, now go!” YN yelled with a small laugh, pushing her friend away to go talk with her other friends. Truth be told, she didn’t want Yunjin to leave, but also didn’t want to be a stick in the mud.
After a few minutes of Yunjin being gone, YN got annoyed with the atmosphere once again, moving from her spot to lean against the wall. She sipped her drink, which by that point was getting warm and sticky. She opted to people watch from her spot, waiting for Yunjin to come back.
No one approached her, which was a relief, she didn’t want to deal with drunk college students. She looked around the crowds for Yunjin, but couldn’t find her. The music seemed louder without anything to distract her, the house was hotter, and the smell stronger. It all was beginning to be too much for YN. So when Yunjin pushed her way through the crowds with a grin, YN couldn’t stop the sigh she let out.
“Have fun?” she asked, returning to yelling like before.
“Yeah!” Yunjin shouted back. “They’re in the basement right now, it’s cooler down there!” she yelled, and YN tilted her head.
“Who?” YN asked.
“My friends, duh!” Yunjin locked arms with the shorter girl. “And there’s someone I want you to meet,” she wiggled her eyebrows as she began leading her downstairs. The pair weaved through the crowds, pushing their way past people as Yunjin grinned. They walked downstairs, and YN felt a rush of cool air graze her skin.
“Is that her?” one of the cowboys asked from the couch. YN looked down at the seven pairs of eyes staring up at her, and gave a small wave.
“Yup,” Yunjin dragged her down all the way. “This is YN, everyone say hi,” the boys all greet her at the same time.
“Hi, I’m Shotaro, and I’m also the host tonight,” one of the cowboys stood up to greet her. “The other cowboy is Eunseok, we’re twinning with Yunjin. Freddy kruger is wonbin, Luigi and mario are seunghan and Sohee respectively, men in black wannabe is anton-”
“It was last minute!” the younger boy shouted in protest.
“Okay, whatever. And angel boy-” he looked around before getting cut off by a tall boy approaching with two drinks, one that was somewhat unfamiliar, and one that happened to be her favorite.
“I’m sungchan,” The tall guy said to her, a playful smile spread across his pretty face.
“Nice to meet you,” She replied with a small smile, locking eyes with him before his eyes drifted to examine her further.
Sungchan handed her the bottle of the drink she liked, and she took it without hesitation. She looked around the room, the big couch in the center with a pretty big TV in front of it, and a bar by the stairs. It was a calmer atmosphere, relaxed, just YN’s cup of tea. Shotaro told her she could sit on the couch if she wanted, so she walked over.
“Yunjin said there was someone she wanted me to meet?” YN asked as she sat down. She saw how Eunseok and Shotaro smiled teasingly and Sungchan looked behind him to see Yunjin grinning at him.
“Some friends are playing some games upstairs,” Yunjin grinned. “You can join us if you want,” she offered before walking up, Eunseok and shotaro joining her.
Seunghan and Sohee were upstairs drinking, catching up with their other friends. Anton was talking to a girl he liked upstairs, and Wonbin was playing beer pong. It was just Sungchan and YN in the basement. She didn’t realize until the awkward silence set in, and she looked up to see sungchan standing by the bar, sipping his beer.
The two of them made eye contact, as sungchan was already looking at her. She broke it after a moment, looking down at her lap. Sungchan took the opportunity to walk over, sitting down next to her, a little bit away. He turned to look at her, and she glanced up to meet his gaze. He gave her a soft smile.
“I think I’m the one Yunjin wanted you to meet,” He confessed, and YN tilted her head.
“Why do you think that?” she asked, moving to face him a little bit.
“She overheard me talking to shotaro about how I thought you were pretty,” He shrugged with a smile. “I saw you while you were upstairs, and told them about you. Yunjin went ‘oh I know her, i can go get her!’ and then she dragged you down here,”
YN smiled a little. “So that’s why she seemed so excited,”
“I guess,” sungchan agreed. “You have full right to tell me to fuck off by the way, I will not be offended,”
YN laughed, pushing her hair over her shoulder before looking at him. “I wasn’t really planning on it,” she shrugged. “I think you’re pretty cool, and for whatever it’s worth,” she paused, contemplating her words. “I think you’re cute too,”
The two looked at each other for a moment. YN felt the heat rush to her cheeks, feeling silly for just calling a guy who was two heads taller than her cute. Sungchan just smiles, relaxing into the couch a little bit, a smirk on his face.
“So… would you want to chill with me? I’m great at scaring people off,” Sungchan offered, looking over at her.
“Sure,” YN nodded. “Do you wanna go upstairs? Have some more stuff to do?”
“Sounds good to me,” He stood up, and offered His hand to her, seeming more confident than before. She took his hand, and he pulled her to her feet, interlocking fingers as Sungchan led her upstairs.
The two of them joined their friends upstairs and teamed up for some games. Sungchan taught her how to play beer Pong, standing behind her to help her aim to sink the ball she threw. He cheered her on through the game, and drank whenever she drank. When the two of them won the game, they high fived each other, and neither of them fully realized Sungchan’s fingers intertwined with hers.
Through the next game, Sungchan’s hand rested on her waist, keeping her close when she took her third shot. YN always had one hand interlocked with his as they continued, pressing up against his side as the night continued, feeling gigglier than usual.
They played a few more games, and took a few shots too many, when YN felt that fuzzy feeling she got when she had a little too much to drink. She leaned against sungchan, talking to Yunjin as she felt the alcohol really kick in.
Sungchan stopped drinking a bit before her, only having a light buzz when he realized YN was getting a bit drunker than he was. He kept her close while they were upstairs, trying to keep her out of trouble, and to keep her from getting lost.
Sungchan had suggested they take a break from the crowd when he noticed her steps got wobbly, and started giving her water instead of more alcohol. He saw Yunjin give her a look from across the room, and he knew it was about time for them to start winding down, so neither would be too hungover.
The two of them went back to the basement, sitting on the couch while their friends relaxed around the room. YN leaned against him, as his arm draped over her, fingers rubbing gently against her dress. The two of them talked for a while, getting to know little things about each other. Her cheek was pressed against his chest, almost resting on his lap, as sungchan absentmindedly played with her hair.
“I want another drink,” YN murmured before looking up at sungchan, battering her lashes to really convey the message.
Sungchan smiled at her, and brushed the hair back from her cheek. “You’re drunk, cutie, you shouldn’t drink any more,” his finger grazed her cheek, squeezing her skin lightly.
YN jutted out her bottom lip, looking up at him through sad eyes. When she saw his smirk, and subtle head shake, she returned to leaning against his chest. “You’re no fun,”
Sungchan laughed a bit. “Sorry, baby,” he said softly, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her hair. He rested his arm around her again, holding her close to him as they sat together.
There was a silence between them, comfortable as He played with her hair. Sungchan noticed some of his friends had left, and now the only three left were Yunjin, Eunseok, and Shotaro. The three of them were clearly trying to observe what was going on between Sungchan and YN, and noticed Sungchan looking back at them. They made a few gestures, shotaro mouthed, ‘should we go?’ and all three filed upstairs when sungchan nodded.
It was just them in the room, and sungchan felt his heart beat against his chest. He didn't know what to do in the moment. He didn’t know what would be the next move, or what would be too far. So he decided to just try and take things slow.
“You know,” he spoke up, ears heating up at the confession. “Yunjin told me what beer you liked before you came downstairs,” YN looked up at him a bit. “She also told me you were a lightweight, so I should probably keep an eye on you,”
“I’m not a lightweight,” YN pouted.
“Sure,” Sungchan smiled, looking into her eyes. “But you’re drunk now, so i’ll take care of you,” he had a silly smirk across his lips, hand resting against her waist.
“You don’t have to take care of me, I’m just buzzed” YN muttered, looking down. “I’m a big girl,”
“I know,” he admitted, bringing his hand under her chin. “I just want to,”
The two of them looked at each other for a moment, YN’s eyes were wide, getting lost in his soft gaze. It was only a moment before YN sat up a little bit and leaned forward, gently pressing her lips against his. It was a soft kiss, lasting a fleeting moment before YN pulled away, embarrassed by her sudden movement. She looked at sungchan who had a playful smile before brushing his thumb against her bottom lip as he held her chin.
YN grabbed the collar of his shirt, and pulled him closer, looking into his eyes, all the embarrassment gone. Sungchan’s gaze faltered for a moment.
“Is this okay?” he asked in a hushed tone as YN leaned back on the couch, pulling him to hover over her.
YN nodded. “Yes,” she whispered, feeling one of his hands press against her waist. His lips pressed against the skin of her cheek, breathing heavy.
“Are you sure?” he whispered before pressing a kiss to her jaw. “You’re drunk,”
YN just nodded again, pulling him close and kissing his lips. This time sungchan Let her have her way, still lightly buzzed by his previous drinks. He groaned lightly as he kissed her back, his forearm resting on the couch cushions while his other hand held her waist. YN had a hand in his hair, lightly brushing her nails along his skin.
They were both frenzied, lost in their own passion and lust for each other. Their kiss grew sloppy as YN began unbuttoning Sungchan’s shirt. Everything felt so fast to her, and she was unable to tell if it was because of the alcohol or sungchan, and his intoxicating cologne. Sungchan was about as lost as she was, kissing her neck, leaving light marks across her skin. The two of them were so lost, they didn’t even realize Sohee had walked downstairs.
“Oh shit!” Sohee gasped, pulling Sungchan and YN out of their dazes. He quickly covered his eyes and ran upstairs, hollering, “I saw nothing!”
Sungchan groaned a bit and YN just looked up at him. She met his eyes before she continued unbuttoning his shirt. Sungchan’s eyes widened, and he lightly grabbed one of her wrists, shaking his head.
“What’s wrong?” YN asked, eyes wide, propping herself up on her elbows.
“Nothing,” he said gently. “I just… don’t think we should do this right now,” He told her, pulling her up from her position to sit next to him. “You know, in the basement of a stinky house party,” He heard a soft Giggle from YN. “And you’re drunk, so let’s not do anything we could regret,”
YN reluctantly nodded, smoothing out her dress and looking down at her hands, feeling the embarrassment creep back up on her. Sungchan studied her for a moment, noticing the shift in demeanor, and how she tried to make herself smaller.
“Let me take you home,” Sungchan Offered. YN looked up at him with an eyebrow raised. “I’m bored of the party, and you probably should go get some rest,”
“I didn’t drive,” She admitted.
“I did,” Sungchan reached for her hand, and took it gently.
“We both drank,” She points out.
“I’ll walk,” He told her, looking at her with a serious look. “If you don’t want me to take you home, just tell me,”
“No! It’s not that, sorry…” She sighed, pushing her hair back. “I’d really appreciate it, thank you. It just surprised me a little.”
Sungchan smiled and stood up, buttoning his shirt back up and pushing his hair out of his eyes. He offered her his hand, and pulled her up to stand next to him. The two of them walked up the stairs and through the house, said goodbye to their friends and left.
The walk To YN’s apartment was quiet, neither of them knowing what to say to break the silence between them. YN showed him the way, and sungchan walked along with her, keeping their hands interlocked despite the unspoken words between them. YN felt embarrassed for getting drunk, and being so forward with Sungchan, only to somewhat be rejected, and have him walk her home. Sungchan didn’t mind at all, enjoying the change of pace for the night. It gave him a moment to study her more, to take in her beauty.
When they got to her apartment, YN let go of sungchan’s hand, dropping it to her side, missing the warmth of his palm in hers.
“Are you okay here?” Sungchan asked, studying her expression.
“Yeah,” She said after a moment, a slight sigh in her voice. Sungchan picked up on it.
“Do you want me to walk you up?” He asked. He watched as she processed his question, debating in her mind what she should say in response. He was hoping she’d say-
“Yes, please,” She gave him a shy smile, and Sungchan wrapped his arm around her waist, nodding for her to lead the way.
In the elevator, YN leaned against Sungchan, wishing she had taken the stairs to try and squeeze in more time with the handsome stranger she met that day. The two of them didn’t speak much more, just resting their arms around each other and enjoying the peace. They reached her floor, and Walked towards her flat. When they reached the door, they each said a quiet goodbye before YN slipped inside, and closed the door.
YN regretted it instantly, wishing she would have invited him in for some food, or to just try and get more time with him. Likewise, sungchan was beating himself up mentally for not trying to make another move. They both stood on opposite sides of the door, both ready to make a move to try and get the other to stay, even if just for a moment.
When YN swung her door open, she was met with the sight of a shocked sungchan, who had his fist raised to knock on the door. “You’re-!” they both stuttered out, shocked to see the other had the same idea that they did. The shock wavered and left the two just smiling at each other, both blushing a bit.
“Do you want to-”
“Can I get your number?” Sungchan interrupted her, feeling like if he didn’t ask at that moment, he’d never be brave enough to ask again.
YN smiled and took his phone, entering her contact information, and a little heart next to it. Sungchan grinned and pocketed his phone. “I wanna take you on a real date, not just a sloppy makeout session,”
“I’d really like that,” She grinned at him, unable to hide her happiness at his proposal.
“What were you gonna ask?” Sungchan asked.
“Oh! Well, i was just gonna ask if maybe, you wanted to stay for a little bit… but i know it’s late so,” she told him shyly, not wanting to pressure him.
“Do you want me to?” He asked leaning towards her with a little smile.
YN smiled, grabbing his hand and lightly pulling him inside. “Just for one movie,”

There are things in life that are just as beautiful as the twinkling lights of the city at night. Sometimes these things are salvageable, say, like a butterfly. most butterflies would live for two to four weeks, too short. That’s why with every butterfly that flew by and over the bushes of azalea outside your home, you made sure no one would come and ruin the very little time it had on this earth.
Your young self would have a daily routine of just sitting at the front porch of your house and just watching the flying critters flit their wings. To the pair of eyes that watched through their living room window, you looked lonely. You’d beg to differ though, butterflies were the closest you were gonna get to fairies, and every moment with them is fantastical at most.
The eyes that spied on you from the confines of their house would soon join you, but he would never get too close. He just stood near your lawn, not even daring to take another step.
Your conversations were of very frivolous things, you were children after all.
“What are you doing?” —he would be blunt the first time around.
“Watching the butterflies” his eyes would shift around a bit, and after some struggle, he was finally able to spot them.
At that point he could’ve said anything else at all, but his reply was very arbitrary, “I can swim very well.”
“That’s cool, I guess.”
“You should be my friend, do you wanna?”
“Mm-hmm~”
He’d learn that your name is Y/n, you lived just across the street and you went to a different school. Every day, you would be at the bus stop with your mom, sometimes it was your grandma, and he was there too but he couldn’t talk to you with the presence of an adult. You went to a different school, to his dismay, so really he could only idle around with you during those mornings at your front porch.
Overtime, he’d see you less and less at the bus stop. Instead, while he took his steps out of their house, he’d see your dad’s car taking you to school. The next morning, he finally mustered up the courage to sit next to you, and he’d ask, “Why is your uniform different? Did your school change the uniforms?”
You giggled, he seemed genuinely concerned about the sudden change. “No silly, I go to a different school now.”
And in a blink of an eye, you were away from him. He thought it was traffic’s fault that it was taking you so long to get home, but after the fourth day, he’d resort to a different excuse. She’s probably on a vacation, with lots of butterflies —it made enough sense for him to start waiting for you to show up every morning at their front porch too, until they too had to move.
At first he opposed the idea and felt particularly betrayed by his parents for hindering his quest to await your return, but after some time of staring at your deserted house, he thought maybe they were moving to where you moved, or at least close enough for him to end up at the same school as you.
Perhaps his expectations were too much of a major leap. Still, he kept his hopes up, maybe one day he’d stumble into you again.
He would walk to the bus stop a little earlier than thirty minutes before the bus arrived. He stared at the stop across the street, and he wished everyday that ‘one day’ would be today.
The day would come where he could no longer wish. Bearing only his dwindling hope, five years later he was almost running late he had to catch the second bus. Whilst he ran, he could hear bells ringing like christmas eve —a boy with black boxy glasses and a girl with a ponytail tied with a yellow silk ribbon, both on bicycles would speed past him.
He almost missed the bus again, because the yellow silk ribbon belonged to you. He would think that recognizing your face through the years of growing apart would be nothing but an impossibility, but the innocence that embellished your eyes and the lines that drew on your face when you smiled, he could recognize them like it was yesterday when he first saw you on your front porch admiring butterflies.
What he definitely couldn’t recognize was the four-eyed kid that you cycled with to the bus stop. He’d just watch since your stop was the one across from his, so every morning, he would be across the street sitting on the wait —he not only waited for the bus, but he waited for you too. He’d observed the kind of relationship that you had with that boy, and he’s admittedly grown jealous of the way he could make you laugh and how close he would be to you all the time —or at least when you were at the stop.
It’d be like that, and you’ve always thought he looked familiar, but you never really came around with who he actually was. Highschool came around, and you would never know that one kid that always hung around every after breakfast at your front porch would be your classmate.
“Can I have some? I’m really hungry.” you were eager to get a bite of something since your activities for that day were particularly tiring —in this case you eyed an unopened packet of twix bars.
“Hmm, okay.”
The chocolate was freed from its packaging, and you were expectant, and very evidently so. Your eyes followed one bar being held up, and —snap.
“Here.” —you would receive the shorter half of the right twix bar.
“Wow, thanks Jung Sungchan.” a playful smirk would play on his lips.
“You’re welcome.”
It wasn’t much, but you’d try your best to maximize the bites you would take. Three bites, and it was gone. The last bite felt like you were being snapped out of the universe, fading away into nothing and willed to the state of inexistence.
Luckily your best friend was there to save the day. And there he was, carrying two quantities of the infamous cafeteria sandwich.
With a smile, he’d hand you one of the sandwiches. You were inspecting its edibility when you asked him, “Wait, were you saving these?”
“Yeah. p.e. hit me real hard today.”
“Wow, coming from the Park Wonbin?”
He was a track runner but eventually he’d move on to join the school’s dance team. Still, he had the stamina like that of a wolf.
“Hey Wonbin, seniors told us to meet for practice.” —Sungchan is in the dance team too.
You definitely thought he was one with the typical cool guys of your high school. He’s a football varsity, and got pretty decent grades, but he was more atypical than anything really. Other than being extremely talented, he was deemed to possess a high sense of responsibility and was appointed to be a protocol officer by the supreme student government. You called him the school eagle —his eyes sealed the deal. He was such a watcher, sometimes you felt like not moving at all fearing that moving at the wrong angle for even just a few inches might get you in detention.
Somehow, though, you never got sent to detention. You weren’t a troublemaker per say, but you’ve had your fair share of late arrivals, and under cloudy weather your teacher might just announce your detainment to the whole class just because you stood from your seat a little earlier than everyone else when class was dismissed.
Sungchan was in charge of taking people to detention, but when it was time to turn in the transgressors, he’d just go on to tell you, “Meh, not really in the mood to send people in there today, besides, detention should be illegal, don’t you think?”
Now who wouldn’t agree to that? “I think so too!”
A faint chime of bells —a sigh would leave Sungchan’s lips, one you wouldn’t catch for yourself because all of your attention would lie on your best friend who rode his pure black bicycle.
“Hi Binnie!” you’d wave your hand and exclaim like a child.
“Hi Y/n-nie, I thought you got detention?” Wonbin was genuinely surprised to see you out of school, the humiliation your teacher put you through would've been enough to kick you straight into the disciplinary dungeon —students liked to call it that.
“Oh, that? Sungchan got me out, ain’t that right Channie?”
Sungchan nods at you like a puppy, with strikingly excited eyes. He finally got himself a nickname. It didn’t even matter if it sounded like Binnie that he hated hearing so much, it was from you, and that was all that mattered.
Your next stop —the bus stop. It was the same one you and Wonbin always cycled to every morning since you became each other’s ride or die, the same stop Sungchan stared into whilst he wondered if you could still remember.
Whether you remembered or not, it was certain you moved on. You were just children anyways. That swimmer kid was cute, friendly, and funny for being his outlandish self. But you couldn’t even remember his name, Susan? Sangchin? —whatever it was, he would be just another memory you’d grow apart from. Either way, you already had Wonbin.
Yet, Wonbin was so hard to love. You’ve heard it all before, never fall in love with your best friend. He was once a timid boy that wore thick frames and was a bumble-borne. You befriended him because you thought you could be that one nerdy duo since you were so nerdy. You’ve both had your handful of friends, but in the end you would end up being there for each other when outcasted from the rest. It’d be easy to say you’re attached to each other, it’s already been a good seven years of rushed bike rides and chasing each other in empty spaces. Your friendship would be the foundation for your shared felicity and solace.
The prime of your wretched feelings would root from your middle school days.
“Do I look okay?” you heard Wonbin ask from behind you.
You turned around, and it would take you a while to actually look at him because you were busy fixing —or trying to fix— his glasses which hinges went loose causing its temples to break off. “You look great.”
“You haven’t even looked yet.”
“Okay drama queen, hold up.” you set aside his poor glasses and the roll of tape you had worn on your wrist.
When you finally spared him your eyes, suddenly your glands were producing double the hormones. “Ew.” is what you’d utter, contrary to what you truly felt. Smitten, suddenly your best friend was too attractive for your eyes.
You would try to forget about that embarrassing moment —embarrassing for it was one-sided. You’d feel mortified over your own shenanigans and the fact that he never even knew you did karate with the air in your room later that night by the sheer thought of him.
You’d think that was it, that it was only your man’s journey to self-discovery —but he was just so attractive when he ran the track. You are what you eat, and everyday you’d feed yourself with your delusions. Your practice of being touchy and soft with each other with your sudden upsurge of attraction for him was not a good combo at all.
Hand holding, side hugs, linking arms, resting your head on each other’s shoulder, it all used to be in your best friend etiquette, but because he couldn’t stop your heart from pumping a thousand beats per minute, there would be a shift. Boundaries were established later on, it felt just right since you were both changing and heading towards the confounding parts of your adolescence. You would be less touchy, perception growing as quickly as your bodies changed.
Now he’d let his hair grow a little longer, would occasionally get a trim to follow school regulations, and he’d get rid of his glasses, though would still have them on when he needed them. He definitely got dapper, more charming. Eventually, you wouldn’t be the only one subjected to his attraction, and he’d hold his title as a ladies’ man.
His timidity was long gone for sure, but if he were being honest, your attention was all he needed. He didn’t need, nor asked for the love notes stuck on his desk, or the letters stuffed in his locker. Still, he’d go through all of them, thinking maybe one of them might be from you.
Him catching feelings for you was an absurd idea, but every day you’ve spent with him felt like a spark, that maybe would ignite the flames of your affinity. He saw the way tables have turned —then, he used to be the one to shy away from physical contact, more than often blushing even, and of course you'd just be your enthusiastic self. Now, he was the one who’d usually initiate skinship, smiling at your inept attempts of seeming unbothered. You’d gulp and inhale thick air whenever he gave you compliments also, and in his eyes you’d be his cute, little best friend —little, because he was a few inches taller but wouldn’t want to be discredited for only being a little loftier.
Even then, your bond would only grow and it thrived with your little escapades like staying out after school till curfew, making shameless excuses to your parents that convinced them enough that you were just really studious and preferred after school till curfew group studies. For that though, you were obligated to maintain above average grades, it was hard, but it was crucial to mask your leisure.
You’re a fairly active student, the type to not feel anxious over giving the wrong answer because you believed redemption could be achieved by anyone who knew the right steps to take. School was definitely not easy, but it shouldn’t be made complicated. You’d learn to sort your priorities, separating academics from the twists and turns of your life.
“Left twix or right twix?” —school would still encompass such interesting encounters nonetheless.
It was the first time Sungchan would raise this offer, and you tittered at him for being a believer of the left twix versus right twix agenda. “There’s no difference anyways.”
He took his time, basking in your sweet, sweet laughter before he replied, “No, but just imagine—” he takes out both bars from its packaging, holding them out with both hands. “This is me—” he’d bring the left one forward a little, “—and this is Wonbin.” then the right.
Under a frolicsome mood, you wore a grin as you reached for the right twix, but he’d move it away. “Hey!”
“Wow, I’m giving you my chocolate and you still hate me.”
“It doesn’t mean I hate you, but I like Binnie more.” —way more. With a bitter smile, he gave you the right twix, but not without snapping off an inch. “Sungchan.”
“What? If i’m a full twix bar and this is Wonbin, it should at least be accurate and Wonbin’s definitely not as tall as me.” you broke into a chortle from his unserious justification.
“Wonbin is still tall though, besides, you probably want more for yourself just to spite me.”
“Untrue.” he took the piece he snapped off and held it close to your lips. “This little piece can be you then, have it.”
“Are you’re trying to say I’m just about an inch of your height?”
“More like a foot, but yeah.”
He fed you the small piece, eyes following the movement of your lips as you bit on it. “Thank you, Channie.”
There truly was no difference between the left and the right side, he just wanted to test something out, to check how likely you were to pick the left twix —to pick him.
You would wonder why he seemed to always have a packet of twix with him, and why he always hit you with the left or right question. You always answered right, and he always snapped it to the same length, giving you both pieces. You thought maybe instead of left and right, he thought of it as him and Wonbin still, like the first time he asked you. It was such a bold assumption to make, especially when you treated him like an older brother. He was waggish, not much of a prankster, but he knew how to turn a smile upside down and at the same time, he was dutiful, and caring at times needed.
It was something about him you thought you didn’t have to second guess. Well, while he did help you stay out of detention for all the times you were sent there, you figured he might’ve done that for his friends too.
“Dude, please, I can’t get detention today. I don’t have any other excuse for getting home late again.”
“Bro, you know I have to turn you in, if not I might get in trouble.”
Okay, maybe not all his friends. Overhearing their smalltalk made you think back on all the times he’s gotten you out of trouble. Shouldn’t he have been kicked from the supreme student government if he really faced any consequences for never taking you into the disciplinary dungeon?
“Hey Channie?”
Sungchan had never stood up so fast in his life. “Yes? Is there anything I could do for you?”
“Oh, no, I just wanted to ask you something, is it okay?”
“Yeah! of course, go ahead, hit me.”
“So I heard you and your friend talking the other day…” Sungchan anxiously swiped his tongue over his top lip as he waited for you to continue speaking. “Did I get you in trouble for saving me from detention?”
He profusely shook his head and would briskly reply, “No, not at all. Don’t you worry about it.”
You kept your eyes locked with his, and you’d furrow your brows and squint your eyes in jest, displacing your doubt with a playful scowl. His eyes would widen in the slightest bit, chuckling at your mien.
“You know I always got your back.” —he meant it as a sign that you’d hopefully pick up on, but you learned to just not question his sweet gestures, all the big and all the small.
But from that day forth, you haven’t gotten detention, not even a single warning. Sungchan wouldn’t acknowledge your efforts till one the day you would be waiting for the early morning bus beside him, and you weren’t with your best friend like you usually were.
“Y/n, you’re early today. Where’s Wonbin?”
“Still asleep probably. I already told him I wanted to go to school early, but he didn’t meet me at the exit street.” you yawned, carefully ridding the water in your eyes with your fingers. “I waited for him there for thirty minutes, but I just went ahead. Can’t miss the first bus.”
Sungchan blinked a couple of times, trying to process what he was hearing. The morning haze was quite strong, and it was getting to his head. If she chose to not wait for him, she wanted to ride the bus with me, right? —his thoughts were interrupted by the sound of you clearing your throat.
“How about you? you seem pretty early too.” your query had left him flustered for a second.
Truth be told, he would come that early in the morning to wait for you, and unfortunately for Wonbin too. However, in all of those mornings, you’d assume he had just gotten there like you have, and for that, he deserves an oscar. Though, there were mornings where he wouldn’t he wouldn’t be there, it was the days you got detention for arriving late at school. Sungchan could take the risk, but would rather not get himself in any trouble as a part of the student government.
“I ate some good breakfast today so I was in the mood to go to school a little earlier.” He sounded convincing enough, so you’d just shrug your shoulders.
The first bus was less full, with one or two vacant seats left at the back, and you sat next to him somewhere in the middle. Before you were sat though, he would place a hand on top of your head, anchoring you where you stood and rushing past you —and you thought he did that so he could have the window seat to himself, but instead he got himself settled on the aisle seat, giving the seat next to him a little tap, signaling you to sit down.
“You’re unbelievable.” your words came out in an exhale as you sat down, struggling a bit because his lanky legs were in the way.
“And you're just so cute!” he’d do that thing where he’d shake his head, pointing a pout at you.
His supposedly teasing little gesture would cause your mouth to fall open, just enough to express the cringe you caught from his tomfoolery. “Ew, what the hell.”
“What?” he’d laugh at you —quietly, for the sake of paying respect to the other people in the bus— and for a second, would wear a smirk on his face, “But seriously, you’re really cute, you know.”
Your brows would lift itself along with the dilation of your eyes. He did sound genuine, but it was just a sheer compliment, one you didn’t hear often, but still, you took it as words he pulled out of the kindness of his heart.
That day, Wonbin got to school eight minutes late.
“Sorry, I forgot we were supposed to be early today.” he’d tell you during lunch time, barely having touched his food.
“It’s okay, be sorry to yourself. You’re being sent to detention today —eat your food Binnie.” you watched his hasty movements, taking a bite out of his already lukewarm food. “You should practice being early too.”
“Is that why you wanted to be early?” he’d reply as soon as he got the food down his throat. “Sungchan kept you out of detention, didn’t he?”
“Yeah but, he might get in loads of trouble if he kept covering for others.”
Wonbin only nods. “I guess I better be careful then.”
When Sungchan took him to that horrid room, he’d reflect on  —not his actions, but rather, Sungchan’s. Wonbin could tell that he stuck around you often, so often that there was no way you couldn’t discern his mellow doting, but you didn’t notice at all, did you? And from the very conversation you had with Wonbin at the cafeteria, he’d conclude that maybe, you like —or at least was starting to like Sungchan as well, he took it as if you were only staying out of trouble just for Sungchan.
But there’s no way, Wonbin had only ever seen you with a rosey shade on your cheeks when you were with him, him and not Sungchan. He would be awakened from his nap by the detention monitor, and he would wake up with a new purpose. Like track and field, he was determined to stretch himself far enough to be able to reach you, to earn you once he pushed through the finish line tape.
For the next following days, he’d wake up before the chickens could cluck, and he got to the exit street first and waited for you. He kept up the routine, even when he was tired from p.e. or dance practice the previous day, he’d greet you with a sheepish grin like he was telling you that he beat you to being the proficient early bird.
When it had all started, Sungchan was utterly bewildered —but even more let down, but he’d never show it, to you especially. He had no reason to feel perplexed even, you saying that you waited for Wonbin the previous day on which he failed to show up should’ve been a hint that the four eyed kid —now not so four eyed— would stick around. For a while you would think he was excited to see Wonbin because he got more fired up, fired up in a positive way it seemed.
Little did you know, they’d softly scoff after one of them spoke. Now they were sure of their competition, and you would be oblivious of it all. Fortunately for Wonbin, you still had heart eyes for him, which Sungchan would catch up to quickly. He’d try to contest it by helping you with anything and everything, humorous pick-up lines evolving into actual and genuine compliments, and when he had the chance, he would approach you when he sensed the gloominess in your demeanor and turn your frown upside down. If there was anything that didn’t change, it was of course, the never-ending left twix or right twix query.
“Left twix or right twix?” he held the half-opened packet to your face.
Without sparing him an answer, you’d snatch the right twix. Sungchan’s bittersweet chuckle subsided quickly when you snapped the bar yourself, popping the shorter piece into your mouth first. “You never run out of twix bars huh?”
But he was surely running out of time. Perhaps his practice of splitting the bar in uneven lengths was foreshadowing, if you and Wonbin came from the same twix bar that he split up, that would mean you two are each other’s halves. Stupid —he felt stupid in love.
He had a twix bar and a dream, but Wonbin had you close already. Besides, what could a split bar of chocolate do? Everytime Wonbin saw that pathetic excuse of a conversation being pulled out of Sungchan’s bag, he made sure to bring you a nice and cold bottle of honey ice tea to wash down the sugars. It was your favorite too, now how could a twix bar ever compare to that?
Their antics would persist with time, still no one made any substantial efforts. And by the time you were in your senior year, you would think the two have just gotten closer, but with that they’d confront each other —prom night hung by a thread, and it was getting close.
“What’s your plan? gonna pull out a giant twix bar?” sickly was all it sounded to Sungchan.
“I already asked her. She said yes.” Wonbin’s assertive facade would break when he heard the certitude in Sungchan’s voice.
“She did?”
“Yeah, funny I used a twix bar too.”
A quick and defeated exhale would fall off of Wonbin’s lips that would soon display a weak smile, “Good for you.” he had lost races before, practically got used to the feeling, because he knew there was always room for improvement, and that there would be another race for him to win.
However, this race would have him limping. He does admit he was a little careless sometimes, still giving away his time to talk to a previous admirer before politely rejecting them, it wasn’t for a long time, it lasted for a good two days, but after those two days, it would take a while for Wonbin to win back your laughter —a while being a little over a week. For a minute he thought you were bound to grow apart by the end of highschool, but he’d almost go crazy over your shy glances and the slight stutter in your voice whenever he said something out of the best friend zone.
“You should’ve joined the school band, or the choir.” he says moments after he voiced out to you his concerns for college.
You sat up, lifting your head from his shoulder to answer him. “I considered, but I got too... scared.”
“How about this, promise me you’d be more open to showing off your talent to people —I know you love to sing, you’d love it even more when you realize through others how wonderful you actually are.”  his hand would slowly move close to yours. “Performing might help you love yourself in some way.”
“Okay, okay, I promise.” you held out your pinky, and he’d intertwine his own with it.
“You have a beautiful voice. So, so beautiful.” you weren’t certain if he had intended for you to hear the last part, as it would be a little faint, but you heard it.
In a hospital, you’d be close to the state of losing life just by how rapid your heartbeat was going and how hot you were, matching the crimson spread across your face. Wonbin kept your pinkies intertwined, who knows, that might be the last one you’d have.
Prom night inched closer, and closer, and a week before you were growing anxious. Then news would fly by of a lucky girl, so lucky that she got Park Wonbin to ask her out to prom.
Let’s just say, you weren’t lucky at all. Devastating, heart wrenching, you had used every word in your mind’s dictionary to describe how you felt, at that point you couldn’t really run to your best friend to cry when he was the sole reason for your heartache, so to whom do you go to?
You sniffled, expelling a weak laughter through your stuffy nose before you’d say, “I want the left one.”
“Really? why?”
“Cause he left—” sniffle, “—he left me.”
Sungchan was only now realizing just how much you actually liked Wonbin. His guilt would arise, and he would look back on the moment he had deceived Wonbin to believing he already had you as his prom date when he hadn't even composed a proper plan to ask you out.
“Take it.” He gave you both bars.
“Do you not want any?”
“No, I want you to have it.”
You ate your heart away, tears dissolving into nothingness once you’ve had a sweet bite of his succor. Sungchan offered you his water bottle, and it was half full of warm lemonade. You’d never expect him to carry around a bottle of hot lemonade, still you’d drink it. It was perfectly tart and sweet, like comfort in a cup. Soon enough, you were feeling a bit more lively and somehow felt like you needed to pop him a question.
“Who’s the lucky girl you’re taking to prom?”
You were flustered to hear him laugh a bit as he spoke, “I don’t have one, actually.”
“Wait, really? not even one of the girls who held up those big signs that said ‘marry me jung sungchan’ in your football matches?”
“I’d only take a girl I actually like. I don’t want to pretend to be enjoying myself around someone I’m not familiar with.”
You didn’t know what was in the air that day, but for a while you’d glance out the window, there was a butterfly —you used to love them so much, as a kid you’d always be there to accompany them, it was his fault you’d grow out of it —that little boy. Your glee that was once those tiny fairy-like creatures soon took the form of that little boy, but why were you suddenly just reminiscing about that childhood crush you had? it wasn’t like you’d meet him again, he could be an olympic swimmer for all you know.
“I wanna be your lucky girl.” six small words were enough to make a mess of the big guy that he is.
The next thing you knew, he was picking you up from your house. “Shit.” he’d only seen a glimpse of you through your living room window but he was already fumbling, sweaty palms and all. And when you finally stepped out of the door, all eleven organ systems in his body would start malfunctioning. You were even more beautiful than those azaleas or the garden butterflies that flew over them. He was so lost in your grace that you had to snap him out of it.
“These looked like the ones we had back at my childhood home. They’re beautiful Chan, thank you.” you held the bouquet close enough to get a whiff of its scent.
They were azaleas, other than butterflies, it was these flowers that reminded him of you. Did he know what flowers they were the first time he saw them? no, but did he remember its appearance clearly enough for him to spot it within an array of several other flowers? Well of course he did.
“They remind me of you.”
“Wait, really? how?”
He wanted to say it —I used to swim very well— but for some reason, he held back. “Cause you’re beautiful, Y/n.”
It was the first time you’d actually feel your face heat up because of his compliments. However, this one sounded different, and soon you were shying away from his gaze, trying to hide the ridiculous color spreading throughout your face.
That night, you saw Wonbin with his date. For a while, you’d convince yourself that you were in the stage of acceptance, it was time to let go. But then, your efforts of avoiding him were vanquished, he only seemed to be appearing in your sight more and more throughout the night. He looked so… happy, happy like he was with you, but you were a couple meters apart, only giving each other abrupt glances.
The night would end, with your eyes brimmed with tears, face to face with Wonbin at the back of the gymnasium where no one else could see.
“I like you Wonbin.” was not what he expected at all.
He was already shaken by your watery eyes when you had asked him to talk for a while. “But, why’d you say yes to Sungchan?”
“Because you had already asked Lia out.” and I thought you would ask me —you could only finish it in your head, too afraid that you might just be going crazy.
“Wait, Sungchan told me you already were his date before I asked Lia.”
Suddenly, your tears would dry up. Your brows furrowed, feeling a great sense of betrayal. “I wasn’t. He's only my date now because he didn’t have a date either.” your voice became a little more stable, your anguish diminishing, and in its place would surface, the feeling of being misled.
“Y/n, I liked you too.” Wonbin, for a short while, would look out into the lights of the gymnasium that seeped through the ajar door.
Lia was waiting for him. While he had his moments of sorrow, he’d be by himself, and he’d find that she, a beam of sunlight, gave him enough motivation to look a little farther into the future. His feelings for you, while it did linger, would eventually dwindle from the thought that maybe you had been more fond of Sungchan after all. Now that it was refuted, all he really felt was confusion. His worries would lie with you, but mostly it was for the girl who he had told to wait for him, the one he had already made promises to.
“Let’s stay best friends, yeah?”
Just a little later, you'd be back at the table where you had left Sungchan, and he was still there, his doe eyes lighting up at the sight of you. “How’d it go?”
“Why would you do that?”
He instantly knew what you were talking about, and with an anxious breath of air, he said, “Y/n, I didn’t think he’d take it seriously.”
“Seriously?”
He was being honest though, he thought Wonbin would’ve double checked with you, he thought, if Wonbin really wanted to have you as his date, he could’ve had you instead of some other girl, right?
Now, there could be a billion ways to apologize, but chose to play safe, saving his confession for some other point in time. Forgiving him wouldn’t come as easy as he thought it’d be —what a man, too sure of himself for his own good. He took his time, being extra cautious and keeping his tranquility to take care of yours. You’d be nonchalant with him, something he’d never get used to, but even then, he was the same —if not more altruistic. For a while you’d feel bad for shunning him when he gave you most of his energy every day for you to reconsider his apology. But the whole ordeal at prom night was cauterized into your soul. Wonbin would only and quite literally be your best friend forever, not even really forever.
You wouldn’t really say your friendship with him was at the verge of falling apart, but you most certainly weren’t spending as much time as you used to with him. You wished you could bring the old times back, you wished you had asked him to prom yourself. But the chances were long gone, you were already in college, still with a handful folks you’ve gone to highschool with —and the most notable of the few, Sungchan and Wonbin.
Much to your dismay, Wonbin would stray a little further from you, taking a major that was way too different from yours. Though, you made sure to make time for each other whenever you could, in the meantime, you’d have your moments with the only person you felt comfortable enough to stick by.
“Left or right?”
Your first instinct has always been to grab the right bar. “I’ll be on my way, Wonbin just texted me that he’d been in the mall since five. I’ll see you for group study tomorrow!”
You were in a hurry because it was already five-thirty. You chose the right one again, but at least you weren’t rejecting his offer anymore, unlike when you haven't forgiven him for his deception. You’ve come to terms with just letting it go, and you believed he deserved your forgiveness because he treated you so well, maybe too well even. You saw a shift in Sungchan, he was a lot more —sincere? genuine? honest?— honestly, it’s quite hard to pinpoint which one it is, but he was all that and more.
Just letting it go was a painful process, especially when you still had to maintain your friendship with the very man that pulled on your heartstrings and cut them off. After everything that went down that night, you two became evidently distant, but only for a considerable while. Getting back to bff terms just came naturally and there was no actual talk about what happened that fateful night in your old highschool’s gymnasium.
At this point, you were so close to accepting the fact that you’re only fated to meet a friend just to be a friend and nothing more if you wish to be nothing less. Maybe the best friend rule was right, maybe you should’ve been more rational.
Your movie night with Wonbin would end with him giving you a very light hug, and words that would trigger your past misgivings, “I’m meeting Lia again tomorrow, just catching up, she’s at the neighboring campus, are you free tomorrow?”
You gripped tightly on the the straps of your bag, trying to look for something, anything that could possibly affect him the same way. “I’m pretty packed tomorrow, Sungchan and I are preparing for multiple tests coming this week.”
“Oh, that’s cool. Goodluck! and tell him I said good luck too.”
His unfazed visage left a stinging in your heart. Why did he have to grow his hair out to a length that made him look so alluring when he’s choosing to act unbothered by your sly hinting? sure, he wasn’t as beautiful as a bouquet of azaleas but still, it was unfair.
“You good? you seem very down today.”
You were thankful the group study was not just a blatant last-minute excuse even though it might’ve sounded like one when you spoke it.
“Did something happen last night?” Sungchan would quickly catch up with the shift of expression on your face, so he’d add, “I’m sorry. You don’t have to tell me anything.”
“I look fine, right? like, just okay?” he was taken aback with your question and your voice that just sounded so tired.
You just had your eyes on each other, after a while his eyes would move down slowly as he said to you, “I don’t know about everyone else, but I think you’re really pretty.” his eyes would shift back to yours that fluttered with his dulcet words. “I really love your eyes.”
He really did, he always have. He loved your watchful orbs that glistened against the harsh sunlight, lashes flitting with the morning breeze as your irises followed the butterflies.
That day was suddenly not so bad.
The times you’ve met with Wonbin to catch up would be a time for revelations. You’d learn that he’d made a lot of friends —quite a friend group they are, just a group of pretty and talented people. Wonbin seemed to be handed opportunities left and right, and you were happy for him, it’s just that when it was your turn to share the events of your life, you’d be empty handed, and occasionally would tell him that you’ve been busy with projects, tests and whatnot. You’d feel mortified, having him feel bad for you when everything was going well for him. Those meets would lead to gruesome mornings the following day, but luckily, Sungchan’s always there to mend you.
“Say ‘ah’” you’d part your lips, just enough for Sungchan to feed you a twix bar.
When the chocolate in your mouth was almost gone, you ask him, “Why didn’t you ask me if I wanted the left or the right one?”
“Well, did you want a specific bar?”
“Hmm, maybe? I mean, I would’ve chosen the left bar.”
It wouldn’t take you a while to familiarize yourself with Sungchan —him and his everything, his routine, his favorite things, his little habits, his comforting patterns, he was unlike any other guy you’ve met despite him appearing to be on the surface. He’d give you a sense of hope every time you felt like closing your eyes and falling into an eternal slumber, and eventually, he would become a reason for you to wake yourself up everyday.
While he’s explained to you the things you could still observe with your own eyes, you wanted to know more, to understand him a little better like he did so well with you. You were hesitant to go past standard questions, but he’d encourage you to continue asking him whatever. He answered every question, from his highschool life to his very upbringing. You’d learn that he wasn’t always a football player, he used to be a very well-equipped swimmer, and that the place his family used to live where you used to live, and that— wait, he was a swimmer? —you’d interrupt your train of thoughts. Sungchan wasn’t even there anymore, but you were still thinking about everything he had told you earlier that day.
You’d take your time to think again, about that little boy that lived across from your house. He was a swimmer, and what are the chances he’d become a football player? What are the chances that that little boy is now the not so little Jung Sungchan?
“Left or ri—” you’d bite the left twix from his hand, locking it in between your lips. “Oh, okay. Do you want the other one? I’m not really hungry right now.”
“No, no—” chew, “Have it. And while you’re eating, can I ask you something?”
“Yeah, anytime. There’s no need for you to ask if it’s okay.” he took a bite out of the twix bar he held.
“What do you think of butterflies?” —he’d stop chewing for a while and his eyes would light up like a night sky of constellations.
“I’ve always thought they’re very pretty, but I know I could never love them as much as you did.” —so it wasn’t Susan or Sangchin, it’s Sungchan.
“Oh, so you didn’t become an olympic swimmer?”
Relief and felicity, there was nothing else in Sungchan’s mind and soul —nothing else but you. His butterfly-loving Y/n whose beauty surpassed even the most well-nourished of azaleas, everything about you, to him, was the closest God had ever gotten to perfection.
From then on, you would tell each other stories, the hows and whys of your detachment.
“We moved because of my dad’s work, but I was sad because I thought I'd never see you again ever —but you’re here now. I gotta admit though, I kinda forgot most of what we had then, I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay, I understand. All that matters to me is you still love butterflies —I mean, that you’re still happy.”
“Thank you Chan. How about you? Why did your family move?”
“Well, I spent like, what? four years maybe? —I was practically begging my parents to move me to a better school, y’know, because…”
“Because?”
“I wanted to be with you. I love you Y/n, I always have, haven’t I told you?”
His confession was something you didn’t foresee, but he didn’t either. It was all unplanned, but he just felt like it was the right moment. Just you and him at the most tranquil site on campus. He wanted to lean in, to just close the already little distance that separated the two of you, but he didn’t. He wanted you to be willing, to give him an avowal that you felt the same. It was only then that you’d start seeing him beyond his brotherly demeanor.
Tomorrow would be the first day that Sungchan would fulfill his duties as your suitor.
First thing in the morning, he’d pick you up, three rhythmic knocks on your door was all it took for your heart to start tumbling and jumping from your chest. And everytime he opened the door, you’d be met with a pair of lively eyes that would become fervent when he finally had you close to him. You two were always together, so much so that it was hard to spot the two of you in two different places at the same time. At hectic times, you’d confine yourselves in each other’s presence. A twix bar and a smile was all and everything that could relieve the two of you of your frustrations.
Your birthday, unfortunately, was an exam day —something both you and him can’t miss for your life. You studied all morning, and before you could snooze away, he’d start to randomly play songs and dance around, dismissing the judgemental eyes that watched him caper. If that wouldn’t work, he’d lay his weight on you like a baby, pushing his nose against your cheek or shoulder. You just hoped you didn’t look too annoyed, because if you were being honest, you thought you would’ve never been able to answer anything on that test at all if it weren’t for him and his foolish, but sweet pokes.
After such a long day, you two would be sat next to each other at an empty stairwell in campus, somehow, for you it felt like sitting at your old front porch all over again.
“Happy birthday!”
“Not really happy, I feel like I got half of the answers wrong.”
“Oh? birthday!” once upon a time, Sungchan could only hope he’d be the one to evoke your sugared laughter through your hardships, but now, he had it all to himself which was more than he could ever ask for.
You watched as he fished a packet of twix, and with a cheeky smile, you’d snatch it from him. “Oh.” was all he could utter, dispensing another guffaw out of you.
You opened it, holding both bars with two hands. Holding out the left bar, “So imagine this is you.” and then the other, “And this is me—” he takes that bar out of your hand using his lips, munching away as you laughed, “Hey! I wasn’t done yet!”
He could only laugh with you, coughing slightly from the sudden sugar attacking his throat. “Okay, o—” cough, “Sorry.”
“What I was meaning to say was—” you took a minute to admire the boy in front of you who stared at you with such fondness and anticipation. “We’re like twix bars. This is gonna sound so cheesey…”
His chortle would make you shy away from his gaze, but he was quick to assure you, “Go ahead, cheesey or not, all that matters is that you mean it.” it was all jested words for encouragement, but he’d soon realize that his jovial advice would apply greatly.
“Well, I was gonna say, we’re like twix bars. Say one twix bar is you, and the other is me. If you break it in half and misplace it, you might just confused which half belongs to which half, so, technically speaking, no matter the consequence, we’d be each other’s other half.”
He had his lips pressed together, like supressing a laugh, but what it truly was is him fighting the urge to just jump you and shower you with all his affection.
“Don’t laugh!”
“I wasn’t gonna!”
“Yeah you were.”
“Were not, you’re just really cute, that’s all.” he’d gently pinch your cheek, but you remained expressionless, so he’d start poking it, progressively becoming a little more pushy, until— “Y/n—”
It took a lot of your power, but you were able to grab him by the wrist, the hand that poked on your face would now be linked with yours, not only that, but your lips were locked too.
“I love you too Sungchan.” “Your lips tastes like twix.” —you’d spew at the same time after pulling away from each other.
Your own laughters were the only thing you could hear, nothing else but each other would matter as your lips would soon attach to each other again.
“Wait, Sungchan, don’t you think we should be somewhere more, I don’t know, private?”
“Sorry, your lips just really taste like twix, I can’t help it.”
It wasn’t really because of the remnants of chocolate on your lips, he just wanted to go all in, as if he already hadn’t gotten you all to himself at that point.
Though, it would be quite an interesting story to tell. Jung Sungchan, who used to swim very well, met a girl who loved to watch butterflies from their front porch. He fell in love, but she wouldn’t reciprocate after a few fifty twix bars. Maybe Wonbin was the one who’d been foreshadowing with precision, because Sungchan had a twix bar, and a dream in the form of you. And he hoped that maybe, some time in the future, you’d be watching butterflies at the front porch of the house you would share in morning and bask in each other’s love for the rest of the day, and maybe forever too.
End.

after what seems like forever, sungchan finally pulls up at the port. he parks his car and gradually gets his things
“jinsu! over here!” you yell out from the entrance, waving your arms around for him to see. sungchan looks up and smiles at you, motioning to wait for hm as he gets what seems to be two luggages from his trunk. a matching pair of luggages if you say so yourself, a pink and a blue one. you raise an eyebrow at this, since when did sungchan own a pink luggage? let alone why would he bring two for a 5 day trip? you were about to ask eunseok til you see someone else coming out of sungchan’s car from the passenger side
a girl comes out and takes the pink luggage from sungchan’s hands. your mouth opens in shock as the rest of the guys start whistling and cheering at the thought of sungchan bringing what seems to be a plus one to the trip
the two eventually meets up with you guys at the entrance, the girl hiding behind sungchan as he greets everyone with a shy smile.
“hey guys! hope i wasn’t making you guys wait that long. i had to pick this one up before coming over here” sungchan sheepishly explains, rubbing the back of his head, a habit sungchan has when he’s nervous before moving to the side to show his friend.
“i would like all of you to meet my lovely girlfriend, yujin. i hope you guys don’t mind she tags along” sungchan puts a hand behind yujin’s back as he introduces her to you guys.
you feel your whole world crashing down on you the moment sungchan introduces the said friend to be his girlfriend, his partner, his lover
all the guys all start greeting her and introducing themselves. eunseok even dapping up sungchan for finally scoring a girl. you feel a little betrayed that eunseok didn’t even bothered to tell you that something was up but that thought quickly goes away when you hear eunseok complain “why didn’t you tell me first!”
so that could only mean sungchan hid this vital information from you guys. you don’t know how long you’ve been quiet til you feel somene poking your arm, it was eunseok. you look up at him confused before he nods his head towards yujin’s direction.
right, you haven’t introduced yourself yet. a part of you thinks she already knows who you are especially the place you have in sungchan’s life being his best friend. nevertheless you put on a fake smile and introduce yourself
“hi, i’m y/n. it’s nice to meet you” you smile faintly, waving a little before you divert your attention on something else. since when did eunseok carry all these charms on his backpack?
anton suddenly clasps his hands together, catching everyone’s attention (including yours)
“now that we’re all here, shall we go?” he asks, putting everyone’s tickets up in the air. everyone yells yes before you all scurry inside the building. you hear sungchan call your name but you ignore it. still trying to process everything all at once. what are you gonna do now?

in which y/n finds himself in the My Love Mine all Mine alternate universe, but he doesn't mind it.
it's been a month since you stepped into the luna cafe. a month since you sat at the first table you saw--closest to the service counter. a month since you held your head in your hands, elbows digging into hard surface below you--trying to dig into the wood and fall through it. a month since sungchan sat across from you with your favorite drink in his hands.
you ignore the way the liquid spills out from the bottom of the lid and onto the table. laser-focused on the man in front of you. you've never seen a face like his back home--with a deer-like charm. tall nose paired with full lips and brown hair that falls over his eyes like he's the boy-next-door. he sits across from you with a certain familiarity in his eyes, a soft smile gracing his lips when the two of you make eye contact.
"i thought you were off today, y/n?" he throws his arms on the table casually, like he knows you. like he's comfortable with you but you pull yourself back, pressing your body as far as you could to your cushioned chair. sungchan gives you a puzzled look, his lips thinning into somewhat of a frown. "what's wrong?"
"do i know you?"
sungchan freezes, his hands placed flat against the table that separates you from him. and he finally notices your clothes. clothes that he knows his y/n doesn't own. he takes a second to get a good look, noticing the way your hair is parted differently. your lips a little asymmetrical--the mole that was on his y/n now on the opposite side of your face.
"i'm so sorry! i thought you were my friend for a minute. you guys look eerily similar." he takes one last look before he pulls himself off of the chair, dusting his apron off awkwardly before bowing his head in an apologetic manner. he leaves the drink with you, even pushing it towards your timid fingers as another apology. "what's your favorite dessert? it's on the house for any inconvenience."
it has been four mondays since your initial meeting with sungchan. four mondays in a row where you've stepped foot in the same cafe--at the same time on-the-dot as the first monday. so far, it's to no avail. it seems that the closer you try and get to sungchan, the further away he was.
your second visit to the cafe, you encountered this world's you. it wasn't like looking in the mirror. it was uncanny--uncomfortable--as you stared at your own face. heard your own voice. reacted to your own mannerisms. this y/n brushed it off, choosing to chalk it up to pure coincidence even with playful nudging that came from his coworkers.
although the two of you were the same, this y/n was far more extroverted. he was always surrounded by friendly coworkers at the cafe--always stealing glances at the white-haired man that sat at the booth with a clear view of the counter. he took his breaks with him, sitting with his head on his shoulder, (h/c) locks sprawled all over his shirt. the white haired man never looked away from him, always attentive even with his work sitting in front of him.
you learned his name on your third visit--jaemin. you never knew you could be so jealous of yourself. bitter at the way this (y/n)'s mouth couldn't help but form a smile every time he uttered jaemin's name. it was a foreign feeling. watching yourself be affectionate with another man.
you've lived your whole life without a significant other. you could continue living without one but experiencing unrequited love your whole life was grueling. all you wanted to do was hold hands with someone who liked you just as much as you liked him.
by your fourth visit, you grew tired of waiting for sungchan. tired of watching this (y/n) and his jaemin touch all over each other. you were determined to get into contact with sungchan again, preparing a piece of paper with your social media handles and phone number just in case he was more comfortable with either one of them.
"can you give this to sungchan, please?" you wipe your clammy hands on your blue jeans, handing this (y/n) your cash and your torn piece of paper. he gives you a crooked grin, paying more attention to the writing on the paper instead of your change. "i haven't seen him since that first meeting, but i can't get him out of my mind. i know it's stupid--"
"no! no! it's about time. you won't shut up about him and he won't shut up about you. it's just unlucky you always come in when he's not here." (y/n) folds the paper in front of you neatly, placing in his wallet carefully. "i'll protect this with my life."
"thanks, (y/n)."
sungchan doesn't wait long to text you, eager when he receives a picture of your number from (y/n).
you can't help but smile at the unknown number on your phone. you can hear his voice through the letters on the screen, his messages sounding just like his speech in real life.
hey, y/n!
(it's sungchan btw......)
do you have a nickname? i might confuse you and the other y/n.
so weird! you both look the same and have the same name, are you the evil doppelgänger?
no, maybe he is 🤔. haha!

shotaro — “you know my weakness is you.”
You got your phone set up on the tripod in your car as you waited for your boyfriend to finally get in. Seeing his dear little face through the passenger seat window, you’d smile.  knock… knock… you roll down the window to the passenger seat to be met with your boyfriend’s query, “Hi lovely, you’re driving?” “Yes hubby, get in.” As he got in, you would think he didn’t catch what you had just called him, but when you’d finally face him, he’d immediately leave a kiss on your lips. “I missed you, wifey.” You tried playing it off, trying to sound seemingly confused as you replied, “I missed you too, but, wifey?” “Do you not like it? you just called me hubby?” and he would pout ever so slightly. Dang it. Your prank was slowly losing its initiative, why was he being so adorable? eyes shimmering and reflecting the light that bounced off the mirrors of your car, almost as if looking up at you and pleading for an answer.  “I just wanted to try out a TikTok trend…” you’d spew in defeat. “Getting married is a trend on TikTok now?” it was hard to tell whether he was being sarcastic or not, but his voice was three octaves higher.  “We’re not…” well maybe not now. —you thought, but you’d only grow weaker upon seeing the frown on his face. And very faintly, he’d repeat your words in a question. “We’re not?...” “Taro…” “Y/n…” with a warm, gentle grasp on your hand, “Will you marry me?” Your evening would end somewhere dim and cold, where the only warmth you could secure is from each other’s touch, and each other’s voice, and his little giggles when he continued to tease you about it.  “Got tired of baby so you wanted to call me hubby already?” he’d coo on you, pinching one of your flushed cheeks. “You’re so cute, my wifey.” Whatever your answer was, the camera did not catch it —props to you for forgetting to hit the record button.
eunseok — “black shadow is married, it's canon.”
His eyes displayed skepticism, yet he wore a smirk. You had set up your front camera in front of you both, seated next to each other on the floor in front of the coffee table. He watched your sheepish smile grow wider when you had settled yourself next to him after hitting record. “What’s that for?” he’d ask, almost in a laugh.  “So I’ve been seeing this little trend on TikTok…” you’d look at him for a short while to see his reaction. “Okay Miss-chronically-online.” he tittered at your glaring eyes, despite your attempts to look intimidating, he only found you cute. “I was kidding, go on love.” “So as I was saying—” you’d look into the camera, “So my husband is here to tell us about the things he found interesting about me.” You’d see his widened eyes, lips forming a bashful and downturned smile.  “So Seok, go tell them.” After a long blink and a deep inhale, he would look right into the camera, “Well, first of all, I think you in your wedding dress would be quite interesting.” And for a minute you —almost— forgot this was supposed to be a prank. “What do you mean?” you laughed at him. “I’m your husband.”  Say that again, please. —you’d think to yourself. “Seok, it was an accident!” a sweet and soft giggle leaves your mouth, “Okay, okay, for real now, tell them what got you interested in me.” He might’ve looked crazy in the eyes of the unknowing, but he was too in love to even care. Chuckling to himself, he’d repeat the words he’d want to hear everyday for the rest of his life, and only from you, “Husband…”
sungchan — “babies don't come from the sky.”
Off the bat, he’d find it incredibly amusing that you’d ask him to film a TikTok with you. He’d had his few every-other-day scrolls on the app, but this time he wasn’t quite sure of what you were bringing him in for.  “Sit down, Chan, I'm gonna hit record.” you spoke to his tall figure that stood in front of you at the foot end of your bed.  “What are we doing?” he very innocently questions.  “We’re gonna unbox something, now sit your ass down.” you looked up at him, and soon with a sulking face as you pleaded, “Please? we’ll be quick, then we could do the thing you wanted to try.” He immediately got himself seated next to you on the soft mattress. “Alright, let’s go!” You chuckle, taking out a box of something —something you didn’t put much thought into, anyways, it would only serve as a disguise for the actual purpose of the rolling camera.  “Can I open it?” you nod at his question.  But then you’d abruptly stop him. “Oh, wait! show it to the camera.” He’d hesitantly —and quite sheepishly— bring himself, then the box closer to the camera, giving it a little 360 of the box. “So what my husband is holding right there is the very exclusive—” “Are you pregnant?” “What?” you were visibly taken aback by his ‘question’, in hindsight it could be funny, but it would send anyone to shock, quite possibly a coma —you thought. “I am not Mister!” “Oh. Then. Why. Husband.” you pressed your lips together, suppressing a laugh. “Ah, I see how it is… you’re tryna get me to give you a baby.” “Jung Sungchan?” “The bed’s right here babe.” “You are vile.”
wonbin — “make-up or make love?”
“Please Binnie, I’m gonna make you look so pretty, I promise!”  It’s been a good ten minutes of you pleading with your beautiful boyfriend to film a make-over TikTok, with a hidden motive of course. He’d finally give up after your seventy-eighth please. “Fine, just 'cause I owe you one.” he’d utter, letting out a beaten exhale. You’d have him sitting right in front of your phone, like a vanity. Well, while make-up would usually come easy, it would only be difficult when he’d keep his eyes on yours that were so concentrated on making sure you were in fact making him look like a pretty little princess —if he already wasn’t one—  and if you suddenly shift forward and the shorter strands of your hair fall at the sides of your face, his finger would glide against the skin on your face, tucking the hair behind your ear.  “Wonbin.” “Why baby?” “You’re distracting me.” He’d let out a cocky laugh. “Really?” You made sure you’d finish his make up soon, so you could finally proceed with your plan. With your brush softly sweeping against his cheek for the last time, you’d put your stuff aside, hitting the record button for the final time.  “So here’s the final product, as you can see, my husband is looking really pretty, right?” your eyes would avert from your phone to your boyfriend. “What do you think baby?” Not so cocky now huh? —a smirk would spread across your lips as you eyed his rosy face. A smile was threatening to crack out of him, but out of utter bewilderment, he’d gulp and stutter, “W-wait, did you just— husband? me?” “Oh, that? sorry baby, I meant to say boyfriend, my bad, let’s restart—” “No, no. Keep that.” He’d reach out for your hand, his soft, pinkish and glossed lips making contact with its back side. “Post it —but you’re gonna have to wait until I’ve bought the ring, give it twenty-four hours.”
seunghan — “i'm the no. 1 trendsetter.”
The excitement that rushed through him when you had gently pushed on his shoulder to ask him, “Hey babe, I want to try this couple’s trend I saw on TikTok.” cannot even be wholly expressed with words.  “What trend? Are we filming right now? Wait, do I look okay? Where do you want me babe?” —his questions fired at you like he was chasing the ticks of your wall clock.  You found this action of his really precious, causing a short chuckle to fall off your lips. “Calm down Han, just settle yourself there —right there against the headboard.” he’d promptly push his back against the headboard, eyes following your figure as you set up the camera against one of your bigger plushies. “Wait, which trend is this?” He was curious as to why you hadn't shown him a video of the trend you were talking about for reference, or why you didn’t seem to have an audio picked out and ready.  “Let’s take turns saying what we love about each other —but, we have to act like we don’t see each other, act like I'm not here.” you tilted your head at him, and he’d shyly cover his smile with his hand, palm faced towards you. “You go first.” You quickly hit the record button, backing away as soon as it started recording. He’d hesitate for a while, fishing for your assuring gaze before turning back to the camera.  “The things I love about my girlfriend Y/n? there’s a lot. Now that I'm being questioned on the spot, it’s quite hard to list everything. Honestly, I love Y/n’s everything, her smile, her eyes, her skin, her hair, the way she’d always remind me to never forget this and that —and if you’re gonna ask why, well, I just do. I really don’t know how to explain it with words only—” A kiss would interrupt his very passionate statement, you were both admittedly very hot in the face. “Oh-kay, my turn.” you moved yourself a bit so the camera could get a decent view of you as you spoke. You cleared your throat before you spoke, “The things I love about my husband can be—”
“Huh?”
“Huh? what?” You watched his eyes dilate as soon as those words left your mouth. The look on his face was quite… concerning.  “Seunghan?” “We need to start over, let me go again.” “Wait Han, why?” “Since we’re changing labels here, might as well just call you my wife too, right?”
sohee — “nara smith who? i only know y/n.”
Sohee was quietly settled on the couch, patiently waiting for you to get finished with the very important matter you had to deal with in the kitchen. You told him to just wait there, that by the end of it, you’ll give him something worth his while. He’d turn around, still seated on the couch, peaking at you moving around in the kitchen. He’d immediately catch the tripod you were setting up and asked, “Are you taking a video?” You’d glance behind you for a brief moment, humming a reply, “Mm-hmm~” “Oh, okay, good luck!” you’d chuckle to yourself hearing his cheery spur, such a lovely voice he had.  Though, for the following moments, you’d make sure your voice filled the confines of your place, and the only sound his ears would take in. You cleared your throat so that you would be able to project your voice.  “Today I feel extra happy, so I’ll be making my husband his favorite for dinner.” Your what now? —he’d perk up from the couch, and seriously contemplate on whether he should just get up and jump you in your kitchen, give you a million kisses and hug you till his arms weren’t able to lock you in anymore.  You continued, thinking he might’ve not heard, so you planned on saying it again, but then suddenly you’d feel some weight on your shoulder.  “I hope I’ll be the only one to hear that from you.” his hot breath fanned against your ear as he whispered, laying his chin on your shoulder.  “Hear what baby?”  “Husband —I wouldn’t marry you till, like, we’re ready, but I hope I’m the one. I love you.”
anton — “i'm in my food critic era.”
He was quite surprised to see you playfully prancing at him with a bag full of foreign snacks you ordered online. When you’d propose to him to accompany you to try some, of course he’d oblige, who’d pass on some good food? “Where’d you get this from?” he asks as he looks through the plastic bag.  “Online, my mom took the box and a few snacks, but we have all of these left to try.” his fond eyes gleamed at the way your hands did speedy little claps. “Tony, can I film us trying it?” “You mean, like a food review?” you’d briskly nod at him, and suddenly he cups your face. “Okay love, let’s do it now.” You set up your phone, settling it against Anton’s water bottle. You take out all the snacks, laying them down neatly enough that it doesn’t look too disarrayed despite not being organized at all.  You hit record, and you’d wear a very dear tone with your voice, “I ordered snacks from several parts of the world —and today, with me is my husband, Anton.” you’d spare him a glance, but waa just frozen in his spot. “Say hi, Tony.” “Oh-uh, well, hi. I’m. Gonna —get married?” watching his anxious self, you couldn’t help but almost guffaw, but before it could burst out of you, you’d hug him.  “Tony, why’d you say that?” he’d look at you as if you commited a felony.  “You called me husband?” “Did I?”  He shook his head, very steadily and very slowly, a clear depiction of how disappointed he was. “I can’t believe you’d gaslight your husband.” It was painful to keep up with the act, but you’d playfully roll your eyes at him, talking to the camera once more, “Well, anyways, let’s try the first snack here…” Your silence was concerning at most, the sounds of the food’s packaging being ripped open pierced his ear as if it were the most eery of sounds.  “You really didn’t mean it?” you held up the act of perplexity as you laid your eyes at him.  “What’s ‘it’ Tony?” The light in his eyes would dim, and you would immediately take notice of it. A sense of guilt would wash over you at the sight of him, till you could no longer keep it up. “It was supposed to be a prank—” He’d cut your explanation short with a comical gasp, “I knew it.” “Of course you did.” —you lost, and so you’d reach for your phone to stop the recording.  “Hold on, we haven’t even tried any of the snacks.”  “We weren’t really meant to, I just used it as an excuse for the prank…”  “And? keep it rolling love." His soft urging was enough for you to set the phone back up again. “Oh, we’d have to restart the recording…” “That’s okay. Let’s do it again. Prank me again.” Call me your husband again. —you would never really hear his thoughts, but he hoped that his words were enough to tell you that he was a big fan of your ‘prank’, though to him, it would never be a prank, but perhaps something else.

OK HEAR ME OUT. so um, taro is adorable and sweet and all. but yk he's quite literally the sugar, spice and everything nice +chemical x combo, because man, as innocent as that smile is, he'd be down down for you ykwim. just imagine you were one of his close dancer friends before he debuted as an idol, but you weren't just any friend, you two had something that would blossom from sneaking out after dance lessons and doing (whatever your imaginations leads you to) but just to be clear, i think it would go like this...
˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ —your bed seems to have expanded as the count for the days you've missed him grew. your worries were alleviated when you found out that he was making a name for himself out there, he deserved it. he worked hard, he's talented, and a brilliant performer. you could only wish you could reach for his hand through the crowd of paparazzi in the airport. he was back home, but not quite. he'd only feel home, when he was with you. the true warmth that reprieved him of his sorrows —he knew it was only you who could grant him that.  it was an unexpected call, “I miss you.” —you were certain you missed him more, that you felt more from his touch, and the rhythm of his kiss. he could never say it, I love you, I really do, but he acted on it. the hints of devotion that disseminated from his touch, it was stronger than ever.  🎶 i remember when i first noticed that you liked me back… come right back, i've been waiting for you to slip back in bed, when you light the candle. (/ly)

now playing 🎧 Love Me Like You Do (by Ellie Goulding)
overlooking the sexual context of the song (please), i feel like loving him would feel like this song. he'd be your lover, but he's also a busy man, so you don't really spend time at him as often as you'd hope. because of that, everytime you would have a chance to be with him, your feels are a lot more intensified. and so at the end of it all, you'd end up yearning more and more everytime, and the time he'd spare you would dwindle over time as his schedule would be become more packed throughout his career.
˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ —a tiny wet pool formed on the ground above your feet. it could've been —no, it should've been the rain, but it was your pained tears, tears that carried the essence of your agony. you trusted him, you knew him to the very bottom of the pit of his soul, but the misplaced time that drifted along with the breeze of the storm clouded your mind and heart with dubiety. how could he still love you? after all this time… opening the door to your apartment, tiny droplets of water traced the trail of your figure as you made your way to your lifeless living space. you melted from where you stood, feeling what you thought was only a phantom of your memories, but you felt a burn that singed your skin, his kiss. “i told you to take care of yourself.” soft with a slight crack, he held your head close to the beat of his heart. he saw the crimson in your eyes and the tears imprinted on your cheeks. “i'm here now. i'll always be —never leaving you.” 🎶 you're the cure, you're the pain. so love me like you do. (/ly)
sungchan
now playing 🎧 The Less I Know The Better (by Tame Impala)
something about him just screams 'we're in a love triangle, but no, i'll never choose you, but maybe i'll keep you around just in case' —of course, purely fictional, but tell me you don't look at this man and not think, ahh, yes, i will be your backburner. no? just me? ok jsjdjdjsksj
˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ —the luminance of the fairy lights shone against the moonlight, the smiles of couples, families and their children, and your friends filled your consciousness. this is true happiness —you tell yourself as you took a sip off of your crisp and cold soda. you looked up at the moon. the sky was almost empty if it weren't for this celestial body that continued to beam its light down on you despite the carnival's already glimmering ambience. the moon looked lonely, you averted your gaze from it, and there you saw him again. the image of his hand holding another more delicate than yours, one he truly loved, one he chose instead of you —now had a mural in the walls of your heart. who were you for him to choose anyway? no matter how much you wanted to rid of this wall, this stupid, beautiful mural of their love, no matter how much you wished it was you —if only he hadn't showed up. you were one with the celestial body of that painful night sky, lonely, in denial. 🎶 i was doing fine without you, till i saw your face, now i can't erase. (/ly)
wonbin
now playing 🎧 Girl (by Men I Trust)
this song is one that i could confidently say, on par with wonbin's beauty. i'm pretty sure every briize seeing wonbin for the first time was like “no fucking way he's real.” right???? he seems so perfect, but never forget, you are of the same embodiment of life the heavens have set you out to be, just like every man who breathes this earth. you have your own unique desires, feelings, concealed and unsaid aspirations that might not be able to foresee now, but you were determined to reach.
˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ —what does it mean to be free? wonbin would never know, not until he was confined in the taste of the heavens of your sanctuary, your breath that's his only source of warmth —of life. the life he yearned for, it was not only to be with you, but rather, it is you. he called, “Girl, girl, girl…” —your visage is the only image in his mind, and your name carved into his psyche, your beautiful name he felt he wasn't worthy of uttering, you were the seraphim that will grant him liberty. “who am i bin?” his eyes glistened as liquid love filled them, a single drop fell, another threatening to pour over the skin of your palm as he planted a kiss, “my girl.” my freedom —the warmth of his breath surged all over your body. “say my name.” you were always so nice to him, the voice of an angel. finally, he could say, “my y/n.” his peace and freedom that he yearned for all his life, was all his. 🎶 tell me stories 'bout a better place to be, let yourself free. cette liberté dont tu m'as tant, chanté ce jour-là (this freedom  you have given me so much, sung that day.) (/ly)
this is kinda creep tho wth
seunghan
now playing 🎧 Everytime (by Ariana Grande)
OK SHUT UP EVERYONE. everytime (not pun intended) i read something about seunghan, they always play him off as someone who's a bit more loose (??) when it comes to his love life, someone who fools around A LOT, but when he finds the one, best believe his loyalty will persist (as long as the trust is there!!). BUT i feel like before you get to that point of settling down and shit you'd be down for a rollercoaster ride, not one you'd enjoy though lol. love with him is just so fanstastical, painful and blissful at the same time.
˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ —you were raised by your parents to be independent, while also keeping yourself reliable for those around you. you were quite the people pleaser, but it would only be because of him. you were never one to care if gossip flew in paper planes about how 'atrocious' you are, but he had you, he held you in his grasp, locked you in place. sometimes it was out of sheer affection, and other times, it felt like heavy metal chains. it would bleed when he let you go, a scar to your soul, but when he came back, a single touch was all it took to relieve the pain. he made you feel like his everything like he is to you, so you made sure he felt nothing but your adoration and reverence. he looked at your teary image, like a mirror. “you're so beautiful, all mine. just mine.” he wiped your tears with a swipe of his compassion. “don't cry princess.” you hated that you kept coming back, just to hear the same shit all over again —but it always felt like the first time, ending with you getting drunk off his touch. 🎶 i've tried to fight our energy, but everytime i think i'm free. why does God keep bringing me back to you? (/ly)
sohee
now playing 🎧 Melting (by Kali Uchis)
i feel like this is self-explanatory??? HIS SMILE is everything :(((( if ever he stops smiling i would actually punch a hole through whoever hurt him. love with him, can look superficial to others, but it's the realest it can be. it's something you'd never want to lose, something you'd want to bring with you to the afterlife, a beautiful scar, one not of pain, but of the fondness that scorched through your hearts.
i am melting rn help
˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ —one, two, three, four, four steps towards the flushed boy till you were able to get close enough to his ear, “I like you.” it took him all his courage —and strength— to hold you close to him, to face him again without hurting you. he might've pulled you a little closer than he had intended, he smiled at you, the smile that is the catalyst for your sweet little daydreams —scenarios you made up in your head rewinding as he got closer, and closer. “I like you more.” his breath against your lips was such an overwhelming sensation, it drove you to close the distance that's been begging to be broken. lips like clouds, soft and surreal. “let's stay here for a while, yeah?” you giggled into his jacket, now having an essence of your saccharine scent. “i don't think i'd ever want to leave.” he pinched your cheek, and you would pinch his too. now you could finally admire him closer, to feel him and his whole.  🎶 i know you're nearby and i know your purpose. take one look at you, you're heaven's incarnate. melting, you're a daydream, stay a while. (/ly)
anton
now playing 🎧 Finally Alone (by Mac DeMarco)
i have an array of comfort songs, and when i think of anton, my mind wanders to this particular song. i just feel like you could heavily associate the words alone, time, and peace with this man. He's like a narrow field of greens —not too narrow though, just right. just enough to please your eyes and ease your mind, and his voice? like a rivers song, or the sound of stone bouncing off and skipping on the surface of the water.
˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ —“you're living the life.” —if he got a brick everytime he heard those words, he could've built the empire state building. he had no way of expressing his exasperations, apart from slyly smiling and shaking his head towards the people he wished he could just run away from. he wanted to run away, from this so called 'life' that everyone around him seems to be so obsessed about. he was lucky he met you, at the perfect time, in the perfect place. “you're living the li—” “a lie.” he wished he was as brave as you, to unleash the burden of this life.  you both longed for a getaway, so even if just for a short while, you could feel for the true nature of your surroundings, locked away from the life you both started to despise. being in each other's presence was the closest you'll ever get to seclusion, isolated in your own world of wonders, somewhere green and blue and phthalo and indigo at night. you could see it in his eyes, the reflection of the sky and the birds in flocks, and he could feel it in your touch, the haven of flowers waving at him. the feeling, it freed you of your restraints, every night. 🎶 sick of the city locked in with all the pretty people. you need a vacation, somewhere that no one ever would dream to go. honey, you're finally alone. Perfect does not exist, maybe that’s true for you, but I’ve seen perfection, I’ve felt perfection. The thought seems superficial, I know, but to be in my place —I’ve had to endure years of sorrow because of this said perfection.
And perfection was in the form of Jung Sungchan.
On the surface, it might take a few blinks for one to understand. But it wasn’t solely your visage that has led me to this wistful void.
I loved to draw, just as much as I loved you, maybe a little less —but you get the point. You’ve been the subject of my illustrations, from the moment I saw you, till I couldn’t physically see you anymore.
“Is that me?” I didn’t get why you’d still ask, of course it’s you, it’ll always be you.
The outline of your profile provokes daydreams, oh how I wish I was the only one. When I saw you for the first time I instantly knew, everyone had their eyes on you, it was only a matter of time till the attraction came pouring in.
Still, you stood your ground like everyone else, just trying to live your life, and everyday I wished I could be part of it.
I draw the lines, and you paint it with colors, colors I had never seen before, colors that could’ve been the manifestation of your reciprocation.
“Good morning, I’m Jung Sungchan, I was wondering if I’m in the right place, senior Kim sent me here to fetch the package from, Y/n?” you were quite unsure of my name, I’m pretty sure you had it written on the tiny piece of paper you held in between two of your fingers.
“That’s me. Department?” I didn’t even know why I still asked, I knew well where you were situated.
“Film.” I felt as if I was going to combust, I could’ve sworn I saw you held back a laugh, the slight hum of your bass voice almost had me stumbling back. “You?”
“Arts.” Now I almost laughed at myself.
But never did I think that our talk would last for a longer while. “Sophomore, right?”
I tried my best to exude a hum as a response, before asking you back why, “Why’d you ask?”
“I see you around a lot, but I just wasn’t sure if you were older or younger. I also confused you with someone else I knew multiple times before.” —someone else?
I was thinking maybe I should be more open to variety, to not wear the same hairstyle, similar set of clothes, and one color pallette everyday. Maybe then you wouldn’t confuse me for someone else. Maybe then you’d see me and think, that’s Y/n from the Arts Dep. She's really pretty.
“Who did you confuse me for? maybe I know who they are.”
“Actually…” actually what Sungchan? “She’s your friend.”
I don’t exactly have loads of friends, but I couldn’t help but ask, “Which one?”
“Minjeong.”
I had no idea of what expression you had painted on my face with all the things you had just said, but Minjeong? to confuse me with her might be too remote from the reality I lived. And because I was talking to a guy, I remembered when she told me, “Can you believe it? I’m being pursued by a guy!” —I never thought that guy would be you. Why you? or rather, why not me?
It wasn’t hard to tell whether my assumptions are true or not, because the way you bit your lip after her name fell from your mouth, suppressing a smile I could only assume was one only she could elicit from you.
I was right.
And I was in pain. I felt like nothing but an excuse for you to see her, always seeming to have packages to retrieve for your senior, and coming back to return things to me, then all I hear is she, she, she, Minjeong where, Minjeong when —I wanted to rid of my hearing, besides it already felt like bleeding to the point where clotted blood would just block my auditory.
But my pain only leads to my deception. I hate that I had to smile through whatever you had to say, congratulate you even when you gushed about her smiling back at you, or talking to you all evening through messages.
“That’s cute, happy there’s some progress.” I spoke through a pretentious smile.
“Thank you Y/n, I really don’t think it’ll be possible if I hadn’t met you.”
Perfection is truly just anguish behind a polished glass case, and at that moment I faced you, I wished I hadn’t met you at all.
My pain and deception, tomorrow I would keep the frame of your smile in my memories, and I just had to pick up a pencil. I’ve always loved to draw things, but through an artist’s honesty, I only draw the things I find beautiful, the things worth the graphite imprinted at the side of my hand. You were beauty and agony, and as much as I wanted to say I hated you, I loved you more than my best creations.
“You drew me? That’s really awesome, I don’t know how artists manage to create such images." Did you never think of how I did it? that maybe I stared at you for too long that I could draw you at every angle, with any expression —I had memorized every line on your face, the curve from the tip of your nose, to your philtrum, and to your lips. Whenever I drew your lips I would touch my own, feeling for its cushions whilst wondering how yours would feel. I reckon it must’ve been softer, more delicate, it always looked so velvet that for a while it was the only thing that occupied my mind.
So shameful of me to be fantasizing about a guy my friend liked and a guy who liked my friend. But I loved you first, it could’ve been me. I always stuck around so that maybe one day you’d choose me.
“She said yes!” —of course she would.
Anyone in her place would, and anyone who wouldn’t would be lying to themselves.
That smile you wore when you exclaimed so blissfully, it’s engraved in my mind, and then I knew I would never have that smile for myself.
My mind is clouded, and my heart is aching and cracking, and whenever I felt it I just wished you could feel it too, just how much you’ve ruined my life.
“Your work is honestly flawless, maybe Min could use some lessons from you.” your quip was followed by a playful hit on your shoulder, then a chorus of laughter.
“Yeah, Y/n is probably the best artist in our department, but I’m not that bad!” it hurt to watch you wrap an arm around her waist as her sweet voice so vexingly amplified in my ears.
You looked at me then, as if you were telling me to laugh. There was nothing for me to laugh at, it would be a pity to laugh at myself, and at what cost? Still, I had to force a smile, just for feeling sorry that I had let myself fall into your abyss.
Avoiding you could’ve tended my wounds, but it wasn’t that easy when you were dating my friend. My friend who I had known longer than you, my friend who was a lot less selfish than me, who likely had thought about me more than I have with her. How could I when you were occupying a very gross space in my mind. I’m disgusting for still yearning for you, all when we had nothing, no foreground. You had never looked at me like you looked at her, I have never felt the skin underneath your ironed dress shirt, I have never felt the heat of your breath against my neck, and never have I felt your tender grip clasped around my hands. I was all desire and no fulfillment, and it had to be that way, not for your sake nor hers, but for mine.
If I gave in, I wouldn’t be alive for you, her, and everyone looking down on me with ire.
I would only grow to hate myself even more, I love you, but I could only see the antithesis of your motivations.
“I owe you one too, Min and I wouldn’t be together if it weren’t for you.” and I didn’t even have a choice.
I saw you to be a bit too brazen to continue to treat me like a friend, yet I never saw you as one of mine.
“You don’t owe me one.” you owe me everything.
“That’s not true, hey, how about this, I have a friend who wants to meet you, remember the drawing that I stole from you? Well, he saw it and he said he wanted to meet the artist.” you seemed so eager to push me away.
“Oh really? Who's he?” to raise such a painful question, that day I truly was not myself.
You introduced me to a guy, and I could tell it took him great effort to be as expressive as you, not that he was aware that I had my eyes on you the whole time. It was no question that I would never see him the same way I did you, even if I tried, he isn’t Jung Sungchan, he isn’t you.
“So, how’d you find Eunseok?” you asked me when you accompanied me back to my building.
“He’s nice, but I’m not really looking for a date right now.” —I am only looking at you.
“Hmm, but try, yeah? maybe not date, but befriend him. Try to see him for who he is.” I chuckled at your careful pick of words, befriend, in what world did you think I was going to befriend a guy closely involved with you?
And for what? just so it would only be harder for me to escape myself?
It’s already a torturous endeavor to keep up with your beaming face, walking up to me like an old friend you’ve been longing to see after some time. Friend, is all I’ll ever be.
With the passing time, I figured, it was better than being nothing with you, right? I would rather have you just close enough, than not at all. I know it’s wrong for me to look at you that way, but it would only be me who knew, I’m sure. I see it in your eyes, how dismissive they are of the light that resides in mine, the light you ignited. You could so easily keep your eyes on me without a stagger, unlike me, fighting all my demons and being very easily lost in a reverie under your unsuspecting gaze.
“You’re really pretty, you know that, right?” sadly it wasn’t your voice I would hear it from.
“Eunseok, I already like someone else, I’ve told you.”
“Yeah, I know that, and I know who. It was a compliment.”
I had dared him to tell me who if he really knew, and he got it, slipped right off his tongue. Jung Sungchan, three syllables that provoked the fires of my hell.
But was I really pretty? apparently, not pretty enough for you.
“I mean, Eunseok wasn’t wrong, you are fairly pretty —but he did tell me you already like someone, do I know him?” you have no idea how badly I wanted to tell you to shut up, to tell you that it’s you, I like you.
“That’s easy to say isn't it?”
“What?”
“To call someone pretty, and it doesn’t even have to be true.” It’s true, isn’t it? It's so easy to leave those words without a second thought, because they're all words, and deceit is inevitable. Your face molded into a dumbfounded expression, and it scared me. I might’ve sounded my hatred with those few words and so I said, “I’m kidding, and you don’t have to know who I like. It’s none of your concern.”
I tried masking my regret with jest, but it was all true, I am not your concern. You shouldn’t care, especially when I’m not the one your heart beats for.
I was a witness of the highs and lows of your relationship, how both of you seemed to lack something in each other’s eyes. At that point, all I could do was look away. I was afraid, so I distanced myself. The blame, the misery, I had not shown intentions out of the ordinary, but my brain ached and quaked from the what ifs and hows, and the whens.
“Y/n? Are you avoiding me?” my breath hitched, and I halted my steps.
“No?—”
“No? why are you saying it as if you’re asking me?” I gulped, your eyes weren’t as spirited as they’d usually be, and your voice was demanding an answer out of me.
“No. I’m really busy with my workload, Sungchan.”
I wanted to yell at you, I’m in love with you, you and the way you cared, just stop caring, how hard could it be? stop caring so I could finally step away without looking back, so you could live a placid life without my trouble.
I never thought I’d witness you chase after her in our building for the last time, pretty cheek bruised red from a hit you took from her. Was it over? and was it your fault?
“We broke up.” to me, your words sounded tantalizing.
I had no idea what you expected me to do, or say, or react. “Why?” and I had no idea I shouldn’t have asked.
“I don’t know if I’m being honest with myself.” I didn’t want to believe what I was hearing, and I wish that would be the end of it. “Minjeong is a great person, I know I’m not. I wished I could’ve spared her the time, and returned her love the same way she gave it to me, but she’s not the one. I fell out, Y/n, I’m sorry.”
I shook my head, your sorry stinging my mind. “Why are you apologizing to me?”
You looked down for a while, eyeing the textures of the granite flooring. And I caught it, a single tear dropping down and landing in between your feet. “She’s your friend.”
I looked away from your swollen eyes, allowing the breeze to softly glide over the wisps of my lashes as I desperately searched for anything to reply, “You’re my friend too.” It would only pain me more when you kept apologizing, mumbling through your sobs. “Sungchan, stop apologizing.”
I was bewildered with the continuous apology, and why you chose to be this restless with me. But I guess you got me, even if I was tired, drained to the very bottom, I was still willing to catch the tears that swelled from your eyes with my shoulders.
Well of course, it was easy for others to see it as something else, and I had to remember I had a friend, a friend that wasn’t you.
“Minjeong, please, let’s talk—”
“I don’t want to fucking talk Y/n, there’s nothing for us to talk about.”
Did she think it was my fault? Was it my fault? Are there things I’m failing to see?
But I'm just a girl, Sungchan, I failed to push you away. I felt temporary, replaceable, but you needed someone by your side.
“Eunseok and I aren’t on good terms right now. He found out the truth.” I searched for it through your glossed eyes.
Was there, perhaps, some other truth? “Truth?”
“I don’t know what to do.” but I was in no place to tell you what to do either.
You were dodging bullets, but at that moment I was too preoccupied with swallowing the lump in my throat, trying to lure myself out of your poise.
I forgot what I had told you, but all I know is that I was seeing you more often than the times you used to retrieve packages for senior Kim, and senior Kim has been away for two years, graduated. Now we’re the seniors, a pair with a piteous reputation to those who have known us throughout our college years.
“We should make a movie together, you know.” you seemed too enthusiastic for your own good, but still, I chuckled.
“What are you thinking?”
“I mean, like an animation since you can draw, and you seem great with storytelling.”
Storytelling? never even gave it a thought. “Interesting. Let me think about it, I might just consider it.”
“Take your time.”
I never knew just how serious you were. I ended up taking my time too well, with you.
To look back at it, it isn’t too bad of a decision to create something I could look back on and carry for the rest of my life. You were my serendipity, it would only lead me to fall deeper, and I know how much it’ll hurt when it’s finally time for us to part.
So I guess, thank you, and fuck you for being so good to me, for leaving scars that would only burn when you were no longer in my reach. Your touch was my kryptonite, and your voice was my reason to force myself out of slumber. I’m so in love with you, but my pride would not allow me to.
A part of me still bathes in guilt. I lost friends for you, for a future I could only dream about.
“Where are you off to after college?” I tried to calm my pounding heart from the way your hand toyed with mine.
You spread out my fingers, your thumb softly rubbing against them, “Still thinking about our movie.”
Our movie, that’s funny. “How about a little life plan?”
“You go first, then I’ll tell you mine.”
What was the point, Sungchan? “I have two paths laid out for me, one’s for character design, and the other’s free-lance, you know it.” your fingers glide against the skin at the back of my hand, and in a blink the warmth of your palm spreads throughout my body as it rests on my skin.
“My turn, right?” you really had to pose it as a question, tilting your head at me, so obviously expecting an answer. I could only, and very languidly nod for I was getting myself drunk with your burning touch. “You know, I really want to work closer with you, so any decision I make, you’d probably see me at work.”
Perfection is a fucking lie.
Again I’d find myself slumping on my bed, thinking about how easy it was for you to run past me. Now you had all these opportunities waiting in line for you.
“They want me to act, do you think I’m fit for it? Do you think I can do it?”
If it’s that easy for you to leave, “Of course you can.”
It would’ve been nice if you were more honest, cause for a while you were drawing an outline of possibilities, possibilities of you and I, and not just me, me, me.
Until seeing you was barely a chance, I continued to refuse seeing through your honeyed gaze, afterall, I chose to love you too much, because either way, I had no choice but to let you go.
Now I sit alone, writing books about the love I never had. Such a pitiful soul I am. I was even oblivious of the many details of this story, because we never talked beyond the trivial things, never about how our eyes longed for each other, or how our hands found each other’s skin that would sear from the sensation, the friction.
You had moved out of town. I couldn’t bring myself to meet you at the train station for, possibly, the last time. I could only wish you luck through a poorly composed text message, three sentences long.
the lovers by rené magritte 💌
sorry i couldn’t meet you today, but i wish you all luck in the world. you deserve whatever you have going for you. i’m gonna miss you.
my robbie 🥀
thank you y/n
i have a feeling i’m gonna miss you more hahaha
I had to leave you on read. This time I choose to just not look back.
And it was for the better. It sure hurts to see you on Tv, to see you deny your dating history, “I’ve dated before, but I’ve never dated ‘the one’, needless to say, I wish I could meet her right now.” —I’ve read all the articles about that interview, that very statement of yours. How fascinating. Acting truly was for you. I could no longer see where we met in your eyes.
I wonder if you’ve read any of my books, if you had wondered if I ever did pursue a career where I could make use of my illustrative talents —it got me nowhere, but you were right, I can tell a heck of a story, and so I told the world hundreds of them.
Your foreshadowing of my future was a big stain I had to carry, and hide as an author. But I would keep writing without breaking even in the slightest bit.
Because I only loved you. I only wished, but never fully hoped, never really tried.
╔══════════════╗
“Hmm, are you sure you want this published?”
“I’m not gonna have it out as is, of course I have to build characters. I just wanted your thoughts. It would make for a good novel, right?”
You sat face to face with your publisher, Song Eunseok, to ask for his thoughts on this draft you made six years ago.
“It would —but you know, I’m quite surprised.” Eunseok wore a smirk on his face, one you couldn’t quite read through.
“Really? surprised?” a low chuckle escapes his mouth, very subtly shaking his head.
He had briefly glanced on the floor beside him, and when he looked back, almost all emotions he displayed were erased. “It wasn’t hard to tell you liked Sungchan, I knew, Minjeong knew.”
“Minjeong knew?” you almost lost your breath, heart racing from the tone of his voice alone.
“Well, not until she was convinced. She’s just as stupid as you were —I mean, no offense, you’re great, but you’re also quite self-absorbed. Take it with a grain of salt, but it’s the truth if you ask me.” you watched him pour himself a glass of whiskey, and he’d pour you one too knowing you’d need it. “They broke up because of you.”
He’d repeat the same motion, shaking his head and humming when the lines on your face started to show more. “Didn’t any of them tell you?”
“Tell me what, Eunseok?”
“Sungchan liked you too.” and there you would take your first sip of liquor. “You truly were too lost, weren’t you? you didn’t even notice the way he looked at you, and how he talked about you. Just a shame he didn’t tell you after the storm died down.”
The storm, their break up, the demise of your dignity. “Why didn’t he tell me?”
“I don’t know what he had in mind, why don’t you ask ‘your Robbie’.?” you rolled your eyes at his laughter that followed. “Cute nickname, where did ‘The Lovers by René Magritte’ come from?”
Pouring yourself more of the liquor, you’d softly laugh at yourself, looking back at that bitter memory. “I showed him my favorite artworks, ‘The Lovers’ happened to be one of them, and he said it’s so beautifully made, like me.”
“That sucks.”
“I know.”
You both laughed over your wretched past, how pathetic and wrong you were. You were glad you could now see through more than your own lens, it's a whole other journey to discover and open yourself up to empathy, and it felt like contentment to finally reach it.
“You received it, right?”
You looked him right in the eyes, smiling as you asked back, “The wedding invitation?” he hummed and nodded as an answer, “Of course. It’s what led me to finding that draft.”
He hummed again, head propped on his hands as he caught sight of your gaze, “We should go together, maybe we can ask Sungchan if he’s okay with the story.”
“And maybe we can get him to act for it when it’s turned into a movie.” his laughter grew louder, making you lightly hit his shoulder.
“Well, at least he could fulfill his wish of making a movie with you.”
“Oh shut up.”
He was quite… the experience. A love that was pure misery. If he wanted to, he would’ve, right? So does it truly matter if he likes you then?
You looked again at your draft, ink at certain spots were smudged, you remember being all tears as you wrote.
Sungchan was not your greatest love, but you’ve got to admit he’d led you to a place where your passion could only grow stronger. You could say that sometimes you missed the way he felt on your skin, but it would be just the memories itself, and not him, not anymore.
Perfection does not exist, and you had to go through all that trouble to convince yourself that it was him.
Who could blame you? you’ve never met anyone like him, and you never will again.
End.

just something very short and sweet for u :)) short question, is this a happy ending or not?
