Thinking about (my version of) Alastor's mother, one of the more than a dozen children of a freed slave and a Choctaw woman, growing up in the miserable conditions of the Indian Territory where her people were forced to, eventually growing up and escaping south in a way that felt like returning home despite the dangers. Trying to pass on the traditions that her own parents taught her to her son while also being intimately aware that the only way he could survive was by hiding everything that made their family what it was.

desperately trying to remember if there are any books i read this year that i cannot find on my library borrowing history or simply cannot remember. i am so bad about remembering books. LITERALLY REMEMBERED ONE AS I'M WRITING THIS POST. anyway i am attempting to compile a list of books that i've read this year so that i can reference it without having to forget everything. wish me luck. i have fifteen titles on there right now but i can't shake the feeling there's something i'm forgetting
#checking my shelf of books i got for school??? idk#none of this is helped by the way that i have seven thousand books waiting to be read right now and all of them are on my mind#and several of them i am partway through. but i cannot put bell hooks all about love on my list yet i just can't#opened this is how you lose the time war today. not liking it super much but it's not even 200 pages so we'll pound through it#and then my three books from merc (princess bride and two books from the fight club guy)#and all about love. and interview with the vampire#WITCHER NOVELS!!! I made 2 crochet snowflakes today as Christmas tree ornaments for my mom. Kinda sad I didn't work on the amigurumi stuff but I mean bro I'm getting fucked in the ass by school rn so ill just be a bit sad I'm not gonna be hard on myself

If you are hungry and need to shower, and you have CFS and/or inappropriate sinus tachycardia, always prioritize food over clean. In addition, do not sit down on the shower floor for a little break, that is the devil speaking, you will momentarily lose vision when you stand up causing you to feel even more faint than before. I will not be following my own advice and I will be almost passing out in the shower again in the near future
#fuck fact an episode like this led me to actually pass out for a split second and go to the hospital#who referred me to a cardiologist who did a holter monitor#and was like ''um why is your heart rate 160bpm when you're sitting down doing nothing I think you have IST''#turns out my mom and grandma also have it and just never went to a doctor about it#also it would be especially bad to pass out in the shower at my college#there is no direction I could fall that I wouldn't hit my head#and it would be my suitemates or an RA finding me naked on the bathroom floor in a pool of my own blood#not ideal#I had some soup and arizona tea now and am mostly back to normal

Sometimes, I kick myself for not playing Curse of Darkness when it came out, maybe together with ShTH. I think that 10 yo me would have loved it to death, between the ID system and the goofy humor, even if I sucked major ass at videogames back then, and nowadays it feels like it’s so hard to find good fan content of the game, between the purges that logically would have happened in 17 years and the popularity of the show. It could have been the perfect childhood comfort game for me, you know?
Then my mind gets flooded with the horrifying mental image of young, innocent Bee, in her grandma’s house at Christmas’ Eve, setting up the PS2 to check it, surrounded by her parents and relatives, and getting greeted by this wonderful character in the very first cutscene:

Grandma: its really really pretty, it reminds me of old movies

Me: oh its another (sub)type of Goths, its called Victorian Goth
Grandma: well those "Goths" might be one of my favourite so called "alts", i love this one especially, it really does reminds me of old movies i used to watch
Me: Thats amazing!
(She even called my great grandma to look at Goths and she loved them)
Medieval Goth: 9/10
Grandma: I like how simple this one is
Me: yea Goth is a really black aesthetic
Grandma: i can see that

Me: Yea this is kind of futuristic, kinda rave-ish i guess

The surgery DID go well I’m certainly in more pain than when I got my tubes removed but it was a seamless and fun experience and literally everyone there every doctor, nurse, orderly, etc. was a delight they were so kind to me and fun to be around they loved my music and tattoos and were so comforting the one time something went wrong! Also I think it’s funny that it’s just gone I was there for only 5 1/2 hours and then I just got to go home without a uterus lmao. They asked if I was nervous a few times and I was like no I trust you guys I like this hospital I want this thing out of me and I’m feeling great I love getting surgery I find it interesting! 💜✨
#Boogie Wonderland while I was unintentionally kind of mauled bc multiple people struggled to get the IV in#and yes :) the free sleep 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁#why was one of my grandmas upset I no longer have a uterus girl I’ve been sterile since last year anyway#she was hoping I would untie my tubes?? I had to tell her that don’t even do it that way anymore#they remove both tubes entirely instead of cutting sections out so no it cannot be fixed lmao#even the way the used to do it success rates of reversal were incredibly low

Doctors appointment went fine. I didn’t really get answers to any of my questions or how anything was doing that she did check and instead just a stack of business cards for specialists. 😅 It’s like wait a second where’s my new prescriptions? Ah a fun new reverse culture shock.
#mumblings#we traded prescriptions for everything and nothing at all for go see someone else#thanks I hate it because I got like no answers and now have to make new appointments with new people#but you know the rn said my blood pressure and heart rate were fine so that's good#I will however not get over the quiet oh I'm so sorry I get every time we go through my medical history with a new doctor#and essentially have to explain everyone from before me is gone now and I have no blood siblings so that's it for their paperwork#and afterwards I decided to go to the library for a treat and ended up playing arcade games on old retro machines forgetting we had them#and it was delightful because it's like everyone else had the same idea#oh forgot we had arcade games let me play#so I watched grandmas playing and little kids and parents and just people#all taking a moment to play old arcade games#which was a nice way to like spend my afternoon failing on ye olde tetris 🤣
