Now that I’ve finished Sailor Moon Crystal here are my rankings of my favorite Sailor Senshi from least to best.
10. Coming in dead last we got Sailor Chibi Moon. She’s cute but she wanted to get with her dad and I’m so not on board. Also her only personality trait is being Sailor Moon’s daughter. I guess it’s better than her taking after her dad tho. (Tuxedo Mask Slander will always be on this blog btw)
9. Sailor Uranus. Okay I appreciate lesbians with swords always, but she’s not very loyal to Sailor Neptune. I don’t like it. They are still the best couple on this show so snaps.
8. Sailor Mercury. I don’t trust people who like chemistry. That’s it.
7. Sailor Moon. She is a relatable queen, but she married tuxedo mask. I just can’t trust that judgment.
6. Sailor Jupiter. She needs to get over that boy she liked. Other than that her powers are cool and I like how she’s super strong and can beat men up.
5. Sailor Neptune. Bitch she’s amazing. A lesbian icon (she’s a lesbian not bi). Tbh she is the hottest Sailor Senshi. I’m just a fan.
4. Sailor Venus. She’s great. I love her new sword. Stan a pan queen.
3. Sailor Mars. I liked it when she said she didn’t trust men. Yes queen. Same.

three facts: 1. My first anime was Urusei Yatsura. Our local Blockbuster had an anime section where for some reason literally everything was tagged NC-17, and I dunno how, but little 6-year-old me was able to convince my mom it was totally okay for me to watch them all.
2. I grew up hating the color pink. My bedroom is now painted bright Pepto Bismal pink.
3. I used to host bar trivia in the before times. I ended up quitting shortly before the pandemic so I could devote more time to my voiceover career, but it was a ton of fun! I miss attending as a player though.

favorite face: Minako bay-bee! My favorite sailor senshi has changed numerous times over the course of my life. Sailor Jupiter was my favorite when I was little, I connected with Sailor Uranus and Neptune a lot when I was a teenager going through my queer awakening, and I became much more of an Usagi stan in my 20s. But at this stage my favorite (perhaps controversially!) is Minako. Like people complain she’s just a duplicate of Usagi (which tracks honestly since Codename Sailor V was the proto-Sailor Moon) but in the 90s anime she’s like, Usagi but weirder and more confident in her weirdness, and I adore her.
least favorite face: I don’t really like using RL faceclaims, it just kinda feels weird.

That happens to me a lot with Ferno lol. Beyond that, Orion probably captures a lot of my Sag energy.

Impossible question!
I love both Beau and Yasha from Critical Role, if they count. I love Sailor Uranus and Sailor Venus from Sailor Moon. I love Villanelle from Killing Eve, horrible as she is, and also Cosima from Orphan Black. Or Callie from Grey’s Anatomy! Or Rosa from B99! So many, and they’re all fantastic.
Sailor Uranus is probably my favorite, if I had to whittle it down. She was probably the first wlw character I was exposed to, not that I realized it at the time, and she’s also like. One of the few that I’ve seen that are also not traditionally feminine -- it’s rare to find representation of more “masc” or butch wlw.
Definitely not anyone from the L word tho.

Ofcouuurse, love! (Tho, for some reason, putting Haruka into words was just ashard as Rei was, for me?
Why I likeher: Because she is a glorious, strong, beautiful, butch lesbian character ofthe kind that the world needs more of. I love, in particular, how she isportrayed as someone just EVERYBODY falls for, regardless of their sexualorientation, even, BECAUSE SHE IS JUST THAT HOT. Also, she’s fiercelyprotective and follows her own moral compass instead of blindly followingrules, which I appreciate a lot as well when combined with a heart of gold suchas hers. She, like Michiru, makes the tough decisions. Plus, she makes a damnadorable Papa.
Why I don’t:I am not a fan of the Uranus/Moon kiss in the Manga. I know Naoko seemed tohave liked those in some way – Usagi gets kissed without her consent a lot, andoftentimes it was meant to be romantic. And I totally understand this is notonly coming from a different cultural background, and a different concept ofsexual boundaries, but also, most notably, from a different time. Nobody talkedabout consent yet here in the 90s, either. But yes, I see this kiss excusedas “spur of the moment” a lot, but… I mean… No. It was a kiss without consent. IfI translate this to my own experience: I don’t want be kissed by anyone but mypartner – regardless of how close or even physically attracted I am by that someoneelse – and Usagi even expresses this, too. “Someone other than Mamo-chan kissedme” – and it upsets her. So yeah, not a fan of that scene. But it’s nothing Iattribute to Haruka’s character. Instead, I attribute it to the time this scenewas written – and I’m fairly confident that this scene would not have happenedif written today, and if written by someone actually in the LGBTQ+ community. (Thatis, fyi, not to criticize Naoko, but to say that authors too are only human,and we are all slaves to our time and zeitgeist and our own personalexperiences.)
Favepisode/scene: You know, for once I can actually name an episode! Episode 106 –the one in which we get a little backstory in how Michiru and Haruka met andbecame Sailor Senshi – one of those beautiful few instances where the animeactually ran deeper than the manga, gave more substance instead of filler!
And I lovedthis episode – the way you could see the struggle, the decision to act. Anyonewho read Ikigai knows how important free choice is to me, and how much I love agood origin story in which the character is allowed to choose their own path,instead of being thrust a magic item into their hands and that’s it, deal sold.So yeah, that episode is dear to me. Also, I loved the fact that it was adecision for this life AND for Michiru.
Haruka wasrunning in this episode. Like the wind. Chasing a dream, a future, somethingshe couldn’t name. She herself said she felt like running away from something,her destiny. But to me, it felt like running toward Michiru – even though shewas scared there for a moment. And that she had nothing to chase anymoreafterwards – she had found what she’d been looking for.
Favoriteseason: S, again. But for her, too, I love the glimpses into normalcy thatStars gave us. Couple dates in the park, matching clothes, stuff like that? Andit gave us that fierce protective side that Haruka had for Usagi – which weknew from the Infinity Arc, but we hadn’t seen in S.
Favoriteline: Back to nope xD
Favoriteoutfit: It might be totally boring, but it’s herschool uniform:
In particular, it’s because she wears the male one. Andbecause it’s totally alright and without comment that she does.
Though Ireally, really liked the Mini-skirt outfit in the Manga/Crystal as well. Whichis curious, because one of the things I adore most about Haruka is how butchshe is. But ah well xD
OTP: Michiru.Lol, you know how already how perfect a relationship you think that one is xD
BROTP:Michiru, again, same reason as for Michiru. Though if there were something likea Little-Sister-OTP, an “IMOTOTP”, it would go to Usagi. I love that love thatHaruka has for Usagi, her princess. It’s so protective and pure.
Headcanon: Michirutotally is the one who makes all the decisions in this relationship. Haruka isthe one who shrugs and is all “what she said”.
Unpopularopinion: For once, I think I’m not unpopular with my opinions on a character?xD Except that I’m not a huge fan of the Haruka and Usagi ship. It’s not a NOTPby all means, but that relationship is more of a sibling-one to me. In fact, Ilike AUs where Haruka is actually portrayed as her older sister?
A wish: Sincewe don’t see them in Crystal Tokyo, I hope they get their little bubble ofhappiness somewhere on a cliff by the ocean, where the wind kisses the waterall day long. (God, that sounds sappy, lol, but you get the imagery xD)
Also, Iwish that the merch people will never stop to announce Haruka and Michiru itemstogether? XD I love that little detail – it’s so sweet they never get separatedeven there.

where were u when u first learned abt uranus/neptune being A Thing that was censored out of western translations of sailor moon. i remember being like 7 or 8 and reading abt it on one of those old sailor moon fansites and being SO ANGRY that the Integrity of my favorite show had been Tampered With bc of homophobia, even tho i was too young to know i was also gay, lmao
Before Sailor Moon S had officially been brought over, me & my friends had discovered the internet & Sailor Moon fanpages, we were like 10.
One day in school me & my friend were in a line up to go to lunch. We’re talking Uranus & Neptune
she whispers: “I found out that they’re lesbians”
me: “Woah. What does that mean?”
Then she told me and that’s it. Then the dub came out and we were already laughing/mad at the cousins thing.

Sailor Venus, who’s actually my favorite today. When I was little and watching only the anime and not yet reading the manga, I found her exuberance to be off-putting. But now, esp knowing her bkgd within Sailor V (her own series), my heart just hurts. She’s also the reason why I understand how the happiest things/people can mask the saddest stories. Happy=/=happy, not always. :(

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: mmmmm I still like him but I definitely think a liiiiitle less of Mamoru
a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: Hmmmmmmmmmmm I guess chibi-usa/helios, but I can’t really say I don’t like it? I still have a lot of nostalgia for it, but it’s definitely too creepy for me to ship it as hard as I did as a kid

I’m so happy you guys like my Sailor moon photos with my wonderful friends and honestly I’m I’m so glad you guys like Zelda so much haha I really wanna do even more of her, I have some outfit ideas planned and I hope I can get one of them out for Anime Boston! She was a big project for me and and I’m glad I went for it! Lastly thank you for liking Yuna! Yuna is one of my favorite characters in anything ever and making the entire costume from scratch and painstakingly doing the pattern on the skirt after pleating it was so hard. I put in so much effort into and it and somehow I still didn’t love how I looked, but you guys seemed to. That really helps. ♥️ Thank you so much for all your support this and to all the new friends I made in 2018! I can’t wait for even more nerdy shenanigans!
