hi everyone!

i have reached another personal milestone on this site, so i've decided to once again organize an event where i'll be accepting prompts from all of you. this is to thank you for being so loving and making my experience here so wonderful ♥

i am generally very open minded when it comes to the prompts i'll be accepting but to put it simply, you can send me a show/character/pairing with a lyric/song or a quote you like and i'll make you an edit. you can look into the edits i made for my previous event here if you want to know what i mean.

you can be as imaginative as you like with the prompt! go wild! i am here to seek for inspiration after all. you can throw a platonic or a romantic relationships at me, you can get stuck on a theme, or even ask for crossovers. i'll reach out to you if your prompt is something i cannot or do not wish to make and then we can think about alternatives (so i'd prefer non anon asks! but if you're shy that's fine too). you can also give me prompts to choose from if you have several. who knows, i might make a couple of edits for you if your prompts spark my interest!

Luna's Review: Café Enchanté

Official Summary:

When Kotone inherits her grandfather’s Tokyo café, she discovers the shop holds more secrets than anyone could imagine.

The café is a meeting spot for beings from multiple, mystical worlds. You’ll meet the king of demons, a humanoid beast, a fallen angel, and more.

And when government agents monitoring non-human activities show up at your door, your new café is about to become a lot more colorful.

(Spoiler Free) Luna's Thoughts:

(Just as a reminder, I'm writing this for myself to keep track of my thoughts and leave a record of the games I've played. Others are welcome to read and feel free to provide your own thoughts, but please, no hate! They're just my opinions, nothing more.)

I was excited for this game. The premise sounded amazing: a cute cafe full of magical beings from other worlds? Sign me up! I love the colorful cast of characters, and the art is undoubtedly gorgeous.

But, while I enjoyed elements of this game, the setting falls apart almost immediately, and has very little to do with any of the routes, with the exception of the true end. The whole game is actually incredibly dark, complete with bloodshed and death in every route, which is normally not a bad thing, but it feels a bit misleading here.

You're told almost at once that the cafe is somehow sustained on payments from only a handful of romanceable characters, none of which use human currency or seem to have jobs that would involve payment, with the exception of the one human bachelor Rindo. This is nitpicky, I know, but I found it frustrating because it would have been so easy to write a way around this.

Let me be clear that I don't necessarily mind a game with a ridiculous premise. I love Mystic Messenger, and the entire game hinges on the fact that you have moved into a stranger's apartment and have somehow remotely taken on party planning for a charity group of people you haven't met. But the thing about Mystic Messenger is that the ridiculousness is upfront, right at the beginning, and once you get past it and accept the game for what it is, you can enjoy it.

This is not so with Cafe Enchante. There are many times in this game where just a little more thought could have made things make more sense. To me, the whole game was plagued with sloppy writing and baffling plot details that could have easily been avoided or explained in a different way — not to mention the litany of literal editing errors. It's also not translated very well in places — or maybe it is, and just written poorly in its original Japanese. Either way, it reads awkwardly a lot of the time

Overall, I was not impressed with this game. It just goes to show that pretty artwork and a fun initial premise do not necessarily make a good product.

Below are my thoughts on each route in the order I played them.

(SPOILERS BEGIN HERE)

Ignis Carbunculus Route

This is the route I got first, without trying. I actually did not want to get Ignis first, because I figured he was the tsundere character in this game, and I like to do those a bit later. He's actually not particularly tsundere at all, just hypermasculine and therefore not great at expressing emotions other than rage.

This is one of the darkest and, in my opinion, one of the laziest-written routes in the game. You're expected to believe that Ignis went on a rage, literally killed and ate many of his own people, including his family, forgot about it and then just continues on with his life, only to be conveniently reminded of his dark past at the right moment to advance the game. And the rest of his clan has been tolerating him because they're afraid of him, and for whatever reason, Ignis has never noticed everyone hates or fears him??

Ignis is also the only member of his species who can eat. The rest don't need to because they're born with all the calories they need for the rest of their lives apparently, meaning the beasts of the literal beast world don't kill each other for food, just sport. And oh, yeah, that's somehow also Ignis' fault.

I felt like this route could have been simplified in a way that made more sense. Instead, the writers had a vision and manipulated many small details to make the rest of the game work within that vision, resulting in a lot of strange decisions.

I'm aware this game isn't meant to be realistic, but Ignis' whole plotline seemed very contrived. It's like they had something written already but realized certain elements weren't congruent with other aspects of the game, so they just...manipulated elements of Ignis' route until it kind of fit.

Overall, I think Ignis' route was my least favorite. It felt the most rushed, the least polished, and assumed a lot of things conveniently went unnoticed for years in Ignis' life. There was just too much coincidence in this route for me.

Il Fado de Rie Route

This was the second route I played, and overall my favorite route. It felt the most cohesive out of all the characters, and it was the longest aside from the true end.

That doesn't mean I don't have my gripes with it. My biggest one is that Il, who has apparently based his entire personality, including his name, on an otome game character, makes the baffling decision to tell Kotone about the game and literally recommend she try that character's route first, only to immediately regret it when he realizes she's going to notice something is off.

Like, I could understand it if the personalities were just similar, but he took the name, too. I cannot believe he would be so stupid as to forget the game that he stole his persona and name from and then just freely give away that information. What pisses me off so much is that Kotone could have so easily encountered this information on her own. Have her buy the game independently to surprise Il, and then discover the overlap herself. Why on earth would he just give her that information? It's lazy writing.

I did really enjoy how angels are basically human androids and god is a supercomputer. That was rad as hell and is a brilliant explanation for why angel magic is math based. I'd say this route has the best worldbuilding, including the gorgeous pretty-boy side characters.

I don't feel completely satisfied with how Il's route was resolved, as there's still some question to how much of his personality is his own, but ultimately it was the most solid route in the game. I didn't think I would like Il as I don't particularly enjoy his character archetype, but in the end I was pretty attached to him. His characterization in the true end route was adorable as well, and I adore his friendship with Misyr.

Kaoru Rindo Route

Rindo was my second favorite route in the game. I think it's super funny that Kotone keeps talking about their age gap even though he's the second youngest character in the game at 42 years old.

His route is also (to my knowledge) the only route that lets you just straight up kill the person you're trying to romance, although it does dead end the game if you make the choice not to save him when you can.

The worst part of this route for me what the treatment of Rindo's sister, Shizuku. She doesn't get a proper sprite in her human form, so you have no idea what she looked like, and it makes it kind of hard to feel anything for her. I did like the utter horror of watching Mikado feed her with his blood with no explanation.

This is one of the darkest routes and the only one where a side character with a sprite actually dies. And when he does, you feel bad for him because he was just trying to protect the woman he loves.

It did feel a little predictable to have Rindo become non-human after oodles of conversations about whether or not humans and non-humans can have relationships. Honestly the game writers are cowards for not making Rindo look more extreme as a non-human. Make him a freak!!

I do appreciate that he remains non-human at the end, though. I feel like forcing him to become human again would have eliminated any of the growth he made during the route.

Personality-wise, Rindo is one of the cuter characters IMO. He's flirty but as soon as things get serious he backs off. Super adorable!

Canus Espada Route

This route was...ok. Just ok.

Honestly, I was bored through most of it. I can't really say why. It just didn't appeal to me that much.

Right at the beginning it annoyed me by assigning a gender to Vennia. Like, he could have just been left nonbinary. It's canon in this game that fairies don't have genders anyway, so it would have been fine to continue using they/them pronouns. I guess otome games haven't gone that way yet but it would have been nice.

I did like Vennia's relationship with Titania, and in the end, when he betrays Kotone, it felt natural. You can't hate him because you know he just wants to protect his sister.

I thought maybe his headlessness would be plot relevant but on the contrary, we get literally no explanation for why he's headless and nobody else is. I get that they wanted to make him an interesting character, but we know his ancestor was not headless, so why is he? Aren't there other dullahans in Medio?

I do think it's hilarious that we don't ever get to see his face. The implication is that he does in fact have one, so I had predicted it would be revealed as part of his route, but they stuck to their guns and kept him headless throughout the entire route.

Idk why I wasn't impressed with this route. Worldbuilding-wise it was one of the more solid storylines. It just wasn't particularly shocking or interesting to me, so I didn't love it, but I suppose I didn't hate it either.

Misyr Rex Route

This route was, quite frankly, absolutely ridiculous. This was the most obvious case of having an overall idea and not having the skills to execute it well.

So many things happened just because Misyr willed it to. For example, he gains magic powers and a semi-human form simply because he wanted to visit a four-year-old on earth? How does that even happen? This is already ignoring the fact that he transformed into an ash monster through forced evolution or whatever, which is already a stretch, mind you.

And if that's not ridiculous enough, we then get introduced to Noah, who is somehow an entire world. I actually found him to be more interesting of a character than Misyr, now that we know that Misyr's entire life consists of going to one cafe and doing nothing all day.

The most disappointing part of this route was Asmodeus, who was largely not relevant at all other than the initial shock of realizing Misyr wasn't the demon king. Why bother making such an annoying character for a brief gag? He could have been so much more but instead he's reduced to an unlikable flirt who kidnaps Kotone in order to provide an excuse for a cute CG, and then we barely see him ever again.

This whole route stinks of worldbuilding with no consideration for how certain elements would affect the rest of the world. You know how sometimes worlds in fictional programs (ie: Black Mirror) build their entire concepts around one aspect of society and don't bother fleshing out everything else? That's basically this whole route in a nutshell. It falls apart under the tiniest bit of scrutiny.

To top it off, the good ending of this route, and therefore the whole game, involves Kotone becoming the world herself, largely losing her human form, now cursed to live for eternity as a realm that turns people to ash????? Who decided this would be a satisfying ending for an otome game?

The one element I did like was the explanation for why non-humans look so much like humans. I think it's super cool that humans used to have superior technology and lost it and everything else grew from that. I like the biblical references as well.

Ultimately, though, this was a disappointing way to end the game for me.

Well homies, I'm doing nothing at work today, so I think it's time for a new list. My friend @kwonzoshi beat me to it, but it's a list of the most goodest boys in the BL world.

These are the boys I would fight for every single time. They might not put paws on someone but I most definitely will for them.

I think they're all from series released in 2022. So 2022 edition.

Akk from Enchanté. He's quite literally the most understanding, supportive, and loving main character I've ever seen. He literally is the most greenest of green flags and I just think he deserved more.

Speaking of the most greenest of flags. Mork from My Ride. That man!!!!!! He was just amazing. So sweet and patient and kind and thoughtful and all the positive adjectives. He deserved all the happiness and I just loved him together with Tawan.

Sky from Love in the Air. I've never wanted to protect a smile more. He's literally the bestest boy. Don't believe me? Ask literally anyone. He worked so hard to take care of everyone else while dealing with so much on his own. He was such a selfless person and he needed the most protection and love.

Pluem from Ghost Host Ghost House. I love everything about Pluem. He is the most boyfriend of boyfriends. If boyfriend-shaped were an actual thing it would be Pluem. He was kind and dedicated and honest and protective. He literally checks all the boxes of what a goodest boy should be.

Jao from Secret Crush on You. The sweetest guy and the bestest friend. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for his friends. He came in so clutch for Toh throughout the series. He puts the 'Best' in 'Besties'.

Diao from Cutie Pie. To be fair...I only liked him and Kuea to begin with. Objectively though, Diao was such a sweetheart and literally dressed like the cinnamon roll he was. I've never seen a character personify pastel colors like him. He's made up of sugar and a dash of spice. He was like a human squishmallow. There wasn't a single bad bone in his body.

Saen from You're My Sky. I just adored every single thing about his character. He was perfect. Again, green flags across the board. He was a good mix of talented, cheeky, sweet, and chill. He was so supportive and kind and dedicated. He was genuinely a loveable guy.

I mean when you say it like that it sounds stupid

Is he going to mention Paris in every episode? I mean I guess if I'd lived abroad for years I'd talk about it a lot too

I love the absolute nonsense reasons they're coming up with to have them touch each other. Apparently Akk couldn't feel his phone vibrate in his own pocket but Theo could hear it and the reached over to touch Akk's thigh to confirm.

Oh no he got fired for running off to save Theo

Yeah, if my teenage bestie showed up to pick me up in a shiny brand new BMW that would pretty much be my reaction too

I love that I am halfway through the second episode and there has basically been no angst or drama so far. It's just these two idiots being besties and semi flirting with each other. It's a nice way of easing back into watching dramas after a break.

Wait, is that Dan from Not Me?? Oh my god it is! I didn't know he was in this!

Good lord apparently Dan's actor is called Fluke, and another of the support actors is also called Fluke, but neither of them are the Fluke who was in Until We Meet Again. That is too many Flukes!

Oh I know him too. Now this feels like a GMM drama where I recognise half the cast from other dramas

I feel like I've seen both of them in something too

I've been trying to work out what Theo's dad's job is. I knew he was someone important at the university. I thought maybe he was the Dean or something. What does a Chancellor do?

Edit: According to my friends who work in academia this basically means his dad is like the CEO of the university

Yep, time to woo the new hot rich kid with some product placement juice

Ah, I guess this is where the drama starts. All the boys are hitting on Theo but they don't know him like Akk does! Don't worry, Akk, I'm rooting for you!

Is Theo just going to spend his whole first day at uni having meet-cutes with other boys?

Boy literally just met these two dudes and he already seems to be stuck in the middle of a love triangle

Well, he doesn't waste any time I'll give him that

Welcome to the 12th installment of 15 Weeks of Phantom, where I post all 68 sections of Le Fantôme de l’Opéra, as they were first printed in Le Gaulois newspaper 114 yeas ago.

In today’s installment, we have Part III of Chapter 5: “Suite de « La Loge N° 5 »” (“Box 5 Continued”), and Part I of Chapter 6, "Le Violon Enchanté" ("The Magic Violin").

This section was first printed on Saturday, 9 October, 1909.

For anyone following along in David Coward’s translation (the link is to the Kindle edition on Amazon US), the text starts in Chapter 5 at Moncharmin's line, “I'm sorry to hear that, my good woman” and goes to the description of Christine and Daddy Daaé in Chapter 6, “They slept in barns, in preference to a room at an inn, snuggling up next to each other in the straw just as in the old days when they were so poor in Sweden.”

There are some differences between the standard 1st Edition text and the Gaulois text. In this section, these include (highlighted in red above):

1) Compare the Gaulois: des soirs, je retrouve même des fleurs dans la loge

To the 1st Edition: des soirs je retrouve même des fleurs dans ma loge

Translation from the Gaulois:

"some evenings, I even find flowers in the box"

This may have been a typo in the 1st Edition, since it seems odd that Mme Giry would refer to Box 5 as *her* box after establishing it as belonging to the Phantom.

2) Compare the Gaulois: ...se jeta dans une voiture, qui, quelque diligence qu'elle y mit, le déposa trop tard sur le quai de la gare Montparnasse...

To the 1st Edition: ...se jeta dans une voiture qui d'ailleurs le déposa trop tard sur le quai de la gare de Montparnasse...

Our Skyy 2 😋

I really hope the theme for MSP/Tinngun in Our Sky 2 isn’t body switch😭 I absolutely despise body switching shows/movies. That was the theory fans had made when the pictures of them filming came out, Gemini even tried to deny it in a live stream LMFAOO, but why do I feel like the trailer is confirming it. Hopefully I’m incorrect, hoping it’s just a role reversal and not a body switch. Edit: I watched a bit closer it’s def giving role reversal, we escaped the curse of a body switch 😮‍💨

I’m glad they understood that Enchanté was not it and decided to give us GunCher. When they released the first OUR SKYY 2 trailer during the GMMTV2023 showcase I thought I was gonna skip the ForceBook episode only for ABAAB to deliver. Forcebook deserved better and got that. ❤️

I’m really on the fence about watching the bad buddy/patpran episode. Idk, I unfortunately have a bad taste in my mouth which isn’t letting me separate the art from the artists *heavy sigh*. Hopefully that’ll change when I see people’s gifs when it airs.

When it comes to akkayan and phuphaTian: PREPARE TO BE SICK OF ME 😮‍💨😮‍💨

I don’t think I watched the other shows so I have no thoughts on those💀and if I did watch them I truly don’t remember anything

I'm going to be honest, I don't like to listen to music that I don't understand, so unfortunately I don't listen a lot of asian music in their original language. The ones I list here have a special place in my heart and are really really special.

The holy grail, I listened to this fucking music for weeks nonstop, I can feel it in my fucking bones. YU voice is klajdlaksdjlaksdjlaksdjalksdjlaksdj and the fact that the music is older that WBL is amazing BECAUSE IS IN IT AND THE SCENE IS FUCKING AMAZING. LISTEN TO IT RIGHT NOW!

Hello Vish! Congratulations on your milestone. Thank you for creating and sharing all your beautiful edits with us, I really love and enjoy seeing them on my dash. I hope I'm not too late for sending you prompts. I have several of them because I'm not really good at choosing a show/pairing + text combination, so I'm not sure if these will work but I'm just going to try. Please feel free to choose whichever combination that meets your interest, or just ignore them if you think they're not something you prefer to do.

1) The Eclipse (AkkAyan) + Quotes from George Orwell, 1984: (a) “Perhaps one did not want to be loved so much as to be understood.” or (b) “If you loved someone, you loved him, and when you had nothing else to give, you still gave him love.” or (c) “We shall meet in the place where there is no darkness.”

2) Enchanté (AkkTheo) + Quotes from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince: (a) “And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” or (b) “It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.”

hello april ♥ thank you for all your lovely words and the prompts ^^ i've enjoyed them and i'm so very happy to have you here! i knew ever since i received this ask that i'd go for one of the akktheo prompts you gifted me. i adored enchante and never got to make any edits for it before, so i wanted to try. both quotes were lovely, but for some reason, i got stuck on the rose.

here's what i came up with

so i didn't have a very definite plan for this edit, other than that i wanted this to work as some type of "bookmark" visually. as the little prince is, well, a book and they tie akktheo's journey with the said book very tightly, i wanted this bookmark to work as their timeline? does this make sense? i hope it does haha.

the rose travels with them through their relationship ever since it first appears before akktheo's first kiss. this made me think about the "time wasted for your rose" as they both kind of... idk. they both waste time on each other and figuring out this thing between them. but they willingly do it. every time, it's time willingly given away. that wasted time, it matters to them.

so i wanted the rose to just appear a lot in this edit. to be present and show these changes in their relationship. how it all starts with a little spark, in an unlikely place, and grows despite the hard circumstances (within theo as he guards it by himself for a long while). then it finally gets a home as akk starts discovering his own feelings and accepts them.

then akk moves the rose to theo's care, thinking it will be better off there. i took this as a way of akk giving his heart away. the rose symbolises that. he took care of it with all his might and now it's with theo where it belongs. he tries to take care of theo but feels that theo is better at taking care of both of them.

and then... well, the petals scene was supposed to symbolise their romance and the romantic moments between them. the celebration kind of. the cheer and joy and falling even deeper in love. the soft moments, spent surrounded by their now blooming love.

and then there's the rose that withers as theo gets hurt and akktheo separate. the rose that hurts theo (literally as he pricks his finger on it) and starts dropping its petals. the rose theo no longer knows how to take care of and the rose that eventually witnesses theo leave back to france, alone.

but bc this was supposed to be happy, i ofc had to include the akktheo reunion in france (in that very horrible cgi france XD) so the hug is there. with the lonely rose... well. let's just think that the rose now has a new life somewhere. all that time wasted on it wasn't for nothing.

i hope any of this makes sense! i loved making this edit and i personally enjoy the colors in this a lot ^^ also it was fun going through enchanté again, i miss that show and i miss the soft, sweet forcebook ♥

i get that its the 'main storyline' but i genuinely do not care about ricky/gina/ej situation.

storylines i rather they focus more on instead:

Kourtney & her being the actual lead of the musical and dealing with anxiety.

Ashlynn and her queer realisation arc

Jett & Maddox reconciling- esp knowing more about the whole implication that he accidently outed her relationship with Maddison to their parents???

I really wish choices brought back the 'confirming you sexuality' option like they did in the elementalists.

really would've come in handy so i dont get hella uncomfy when the guy characters flirt hard with my mc. and the mc acting like they are into it..

like on a more recent note with loa book 2, that bar scene with whats - his - name , new partner guy...

i hated that scene sm, was not here for him whispering up close and flirting urghhh.

worse cause the option where you could say no to the diamond scene wasnt really a 'no' just a 'not tonight'. like mc only turned him down cause they were with their friends.

when reality... shouldve been like :

no uncomfy flirtations - he just moves away and it stays completely platonic. is that so much to ask for???
