This is the late Sir Thomas is Snuggle the Manycoated. This was his usual color but he’d also wear red and lilac tabby at times. Anyway, as it always happens I saw something that sparked me thinking about the CatVetCommunity. I have many friends all over the world and some of them have hideous amounts of allergies. Which got me wondering about, at the very least, providing a tiny house that is open for use to hang out in that is allergen free or as much as we can make it. My gut feeling is that folx will have an easier time simply from not being stacked up as one is in an apartment complex. I really feel, particularly based simply on the rat crowding studies, that people would be healthier physically and mentally in a no kill intentional community shelter. Greenery is all around. You live in a space that is your own. Yet there are people right there when you need to connect. There is all kinds of music available, from a karaoke machine in the rec room (one the stage) to a music room in the main house (space enough for a grand piano, drum kit, harp plus hidden lockable instrument storage in addition to instruments for anyone to use) to a gazebo (and one in the campground and pull double duty) with enough space around for hanging out and chilling or grilling. Ooooh thought of another thing, a challenge course. Eventually make two courses... one for two legs and one for chairs. That would kick ass! I want all kinds of ways to exercise from walk/run trails (some specifically designed two chairs wide) to cold and warm swimming pools to jungle gyms to an exercise room (accessible!) and so on. Also need a room with a hardwood floor (keep padding in a closet) for classes and it should have a wooden dummy. I also want a pell somewhere that you can hit when you get mad. If anyone actually reads this stuff I ramble about I’d love to hear your thoughts. Seasons of Love

It's been a long while since my last post, in which several important life events have happened, but maybe I'll write about it some other time.

This week is World Pride in Toronto and incidentally I decided to begin watching several gay films I have... acquired.

Yesterday I watched Weekend, a beautiful film directed by Andrew Haigh. The movie was incredibly real and felt truthful. To me, it adequately represented several facets of the community and as it did so, was sure to humanize and make every moment relate-able. Everything about this film felt visceral, and I thought it was powerful in the way that it could unabashedly show that love is universal and strong in all its forms. However, the reason I write this post is not because of Weekend, but because of The Normal Heart. I did not expect it to move me so intensely, nor that it would make me realize what I feel Pride should represent. 

I felt that this movie so completely depicted two important narratives for any movement: apathy and drive. And in doing so, revealed the best and worst parts of the human condition, in my eyes.

The movie is based off of Larry Kramer's play of the same name and is directed by Ryan Murphy. Murphy's work is always a mixed bag for me but he does have a way of capturing and displaying a feeling. This movie was so striking and thought-provoking because I felt the message and the movement. This is because at the core of it, it is about normalizing love.

Every person is capable of loving, there is nothing different about that. But the moment the topic turns to whom one is loving, everyone begins to judge. Of course, I am guilty of that; and for something to gain wider acceptance, the conversation needs to be about the capacity to give, share and receive love. That's what I feel the title 'The Normal Heart' represents. And while the quote below is certainly true, everybody needs somebody's love, which is what I think the movie and play try to convey.

I don't believe that this is a niche film, to me it depicts an important part of history (which parts of history aren't, when they've shaped the zeitgeist of a generation?) and an important facet of humanity. There was one moment in the film that rang with me, when Tommy was making a speech at a memorial.

He talks about how a generation with promise, talent and voices are being taken away by a disease that nobody paid attention to at the time. He highlights the importance of art in that moment, and (this is how I perceived it) how it is one of the most important vehicles for marginalized people to be heard.

Jonathan Larson's RENT immediately sprung to mind. Though it is a musical with flaws (as with any musical) it gave a voice to so many. Not only did it address the HIV/AIDS epidemic among the gay population but also displayed its prominence among other groups of people. At the end of it all, it is still a musical about the importance and universality of love. It also does not escape me that the cover for the RENT soundtrack has all the colours of the rainbow.

So at the end of all of this, I've come to realize that Pride is a celebration and a way to highlight how every person is capable of love regardless of identity.

I dream of becoming a journalist.

I dream of becoming a news caster.

I dream of being a student of Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

I dream of being a singer. Enrolling an audition in JYP entertaiment.

I dream of being a gold medalist in International Earth Science Competition.

I dream of being a leader of a social movement.

I dream of making a social community. To gather Indonesian youth and lead a change.

I dream of being the front runner of global change.

I dream of being an Indonesian Ambassador in Japan.

I dream of becoming a diplomat.

I think being a diplomat needs a long and tough process, yet in the pursuing of it, I'll make sure that I check those dreams one by one.

I dream of becoming Rio Haryanto's wife.
