A very UNLIKELY one, but this was a hypothetical situation. Who would he choose if one could survive? It was a rather interesting question.
“ Fighting prowess is a minimal factor in this situation. What matters most in this situation is who could best uphold the Spider as well as be able to operate and rebuild. This rules out several rather quickly. Phinks, Feitan, Kortopi, Uvogin, and Bonolenov would be unfit. Uvogin, Feitan, Kortopi, and Bonolenov all have personalities more likely to drive people away or obedience only through fear. Phinks has the most heart perhaps, but I do not think he would do well as the sole survivor for that reason. Furthermore, he’s not best equipped for the mental toll of being the leader. He tends to assume good in people. “ Like the Nostrade family.
Now that the members are more narrowed down, it comes to values towards different skills. “ Shizuku’s memory would be a problem. I would rule her out despite her firm stance towards the Troupe’s rules and ideology.” That left Shalnark, Pakunoda, Nobunaga, Franklin, and Machi. “ I do not think Franklin would be best suited to choose either. “
“ Shalnark, Pakunoda, Nobunaga, and Machi would all be good choices. I would be content with any of them being the one to survive. “ But that wasn’t what the question had asked of him. It had asked him to choose one.
“ I would choose Pakunoda. “ Chrollo’s tone is calm and steady, unfaltering in his choice. “ I have faith she would be able to rebuild the spider the best. She understands the way that the spider should operate and the ideology behind it. She’s also frequently with me and understand details of operations and movement. She’s well equipped socially, and would be able to assess and find the right people. Although she does have more emotional investment in it, I do not find that a weakness. “ The fact three of his top four were more emotionally invested in matters spoke of the fact it evidently played a role in his decision making. “ It would make her more determined to find those who fit. She’s logical and calm even in intense situations, but allows herself to be invested in things she finds valuable or essential to do so. “
IN CURRENT ARC (So assuming Uvo, Paku, Shalnark, and Kortopi are all unavailable. )
“ Machi. “ It isn’t a hard choice when all that was left was Machi, Nobunaga, or Kalluto. ( Illumi, naturally, was ruled out. He was far too obedient to his own family. ) “ Her nen skills would be useful in regards to potential danger she might encounter. She also has experience with friends of potential threats, and her hunches are very often correct and could save her life as well as future members. I would trust her to be able to choose those who’d fit well in the dynamic. She can make good calls. The Troupe might be a bit different under her leadership, but adaption is essential to survival. “
He tilts his head slightly. “ Although....with time and experience, perhaps Kalluto would be a good choice. He’s already made progress. And unlike any of the current members, Kurapika and his friends are not aware of his status among us. Nor are most people who might know any of us. That gives him an advantage. Furthermore, Kalluto had no involvement in the Kurta massacre and is the sibling to his friend. It’s an emotional weakness for Kurapika, he cares for his friends. It would also likely negate any future threats of the Troupe and the Zoldycks fighting. Most likely at least. Not now, he’s not ready. But I could see a time where he might be the best choice, if he steps into his own person. “ It was logical ; there were many potential benefits should Kalluto indeed stay and flourish with the troupe over his own family. That however was a potential area of weakness as well.

2) on what do you disagree with other fans of your f/o?
Shalnark is a descendent of the Kurta and I will die defending this hill. Canon last name be damned.
3) did you used to ship your f/o with anyone before realizing you wanted to ship them with yourself?
Ehhh same with Lucci, Shalnark was my muse from when I rped. I used to ship Shal with my mutuals ocs/ and occasionally their interpretation of a canon character but ehh. I was never big on shipping and romance was never the main point of a thread but if it happened it happened.
6) what are some tropes that fan art of your f/o tends to follow?
Lots of pastels and some soft Scifi themes. It works and I love that combination.
9) do you distance yourself from other fans of your f/o or their source?
Kind of? Back in my early fandom days I was pretty actively involved in the HxH community (mostly rp/hcs/reader inserts etc) but a lot of my old friends have dropped out and I spend more time interacting with this community. It’s been several years and I doubt anyone still remembers my old blogs.

send a 👫and I’ll write four headcanons I have about our muse’s relationship
1. Shalnark didn’t much like Uvogin when he first joined the Spiders because of his outlandish personality and habit of getting in Shalnark’s way while playing his video games. After actually getting to know him, though, they quickly became very good friends.
2. Their first actual kiss was accidental. Uvogin was going to give Shalnark a smooch on the cheek for helping him out on the computer (like he always has) and Shalnark turned a little too quick. Shalnark initially became very angry and embarrassed and the entire Troupe had seen the exchange, which only made the reaction worse. They didn’t talk to each other for a week until Uvo came to apologize. Shalnark admitted he slightly enjoyed it. Uvo took it as a win.
3. Uvogin is entirely impressed by Shalnark’s Auto Pilot ability, but Shalnark refuses to use it against him as a test of strength. Shalnark did use Auto Pilot against Uvogin once while they were sparring together, and when Shalnark awoke from his ability’s effects Uvogin was far bloodier than he expected. Now he tells Uvo he doesn’t want to use Auto Pilot against him because he doesn’t enjoy not remembering, but he finds himself scared of harming Uvogin like that again.
4. Shalnark told Uvogin about his Kurta lineage a little over a year into their romantic relationship. At first Uvogin didn’t believe him and considered Shal to be joking with him, but that was quickly dashed when Shal allowed his eyes to glow scarlet. Occasionally Shalnark will allow Uvo to watch his eyes for a while, and they tend to turn scarlet when they share intimate moments.

To Take A Step Forward You Need To Take One Back
Summery: When Kuroro wakes up to the most unlikeliest situations, he has to figure out away out of this mysterious labyrinth, figure out why the last Kurta seems to have forsaken his vengeance, and on top of that, make sure neither of them die along the way.
Or, Kurapika knows more than he's willing to share, and Kuroro is just too curious not to tag along with the chain user on his suicidal adventure
Chapter 1
Kuroro could hear nothing, see nothing, feel nothing. Wherever he was, something dark was hovering over him and the Phantom Troupe leader did not like it. Eyes twitching slightly behind his closed lids, he tried to move.
Nothing.
‘Interesting’, he thought.‘I can’t sense my nen at all.’
Someone or something most have put him in a state of zetsu. That someone or something likely being whatever was looming over him.
That didn’t explain his current inability to move however, nor did it shed any light on the perpetuating darkness he found himself in.
Kuroro let his mind wander trying to reach for a semblance of clarity in the form of his other senses. For now, he was calm. Despite his predicament no one had hurt him yet, so he was either being observed, or whomever most have put him in this state was waiting till he was awake to extract whatever they needed from him.
He wondered about his troupe members current whereabouts. Kuroro could distinctly recall walking with Shalnark to the designated meeting spot hours before whatever happened, happened.They most have been ambushed somehow. Taken of guard no matter how unlikely that seemed, for Kuroro could briefly recall flashes of memories of a sudden ice-cold hand wrapping itself around his throat, of Shalnark’s panicked screams, of fighting to get free to no avail, before everything descended into nothingness.
‘Is Shalnark here?’ he wondered, trying again to extend his senses and tap into his nen. All he got for an answer was a pitiful simmering under his flesh and then nothing
So, it was still there then. Still accessible but buried so deep under his very essence that just the thought of forcing it back up and using it left him feeling wary.
Even so, the tiniest bit of weight fell of his chest. It was still there. For now, that was enough.
Sure, getting his nen back once again would not be impossible, but the last time that had happened, it had been quite the tedious affair, and Kuroro would rather avoid a repeat event if he could help it.
His mind suddenly jolted at the thought
The chain user.
Kuroro’s brows furred the slightest degree across his forehead. Why hadn’t he thought of the chain user? The reckless blond could have somehow gotten to him again, and maybe that’s why his nen wasn’t responding correctly? Maybe he had found another way to silence his nen. Not sealing it away this time, but making so that just the simple task of using it require a tremendous effort on his part?
Could he attribute the darkness and immobility he was currently experiencing to the chain user as well? As far as he could tell, the blond had not been capable of this feat last time they met, but then again , the chain user had made progress far beyond the average man once before. Granted he did it by sacrificing everything like a foolish boy, but who’s to say that he hadn’t yet made another deal to immobilize his worst enemy and drag him into a world of endless darkness just to finish him off later?
Kuroro would have snorted in amusement if his body was able. If this turned out to be in fact the chain user, it would mark it the second time the effeminate boy had managed to get the drop on him. The infamous leader of the deadliest group of thieves the world had ever known bested by a teenager boy, twice? He was almost impressed.
And just as his musings came to an end. Noises began to filter through the murky paralyses, dragging him slowly back into the world of the living. It was a slow going, but with gentle pats on his shoulder by a hand he could faintly feel the pressure of, and a reassuring voice cozying him back into consciousness, he managed to finally crack open a single eye and gasp in a shuddering breath.
It was as if a wall of stones had been lifted of his chest and he could suddenly inhale all the air his lungs had been craving the whole time his body lay defenselessly on the ground. Or what he thought was the ground. It certainty felt cold enough.
Squinting at the blinding light piercing through his sensitive eyes, Kuroro frowned, trying to bring up his right arm to shield himself against its burning brightness. Of course his limb refused to comply with his demands, laying there useless and unresponsive, but before he could shut his eyes all together and avoid the light that way, a quick stumble of words was muttered uncomfortably close next to him, before a head of blond hair with the brightest of blue eyes leaned into his field of vision, effectively blocking the light .
“Better?” the chain user asked.
For he was undeniably the chain user. Even if the Phantom leader was tempted to not trust his eyes at the moment.
The bizarreness of the situation was slowly starting to confound the thieve, but rather than let that show on his face, he kept his expression serenely blank and answered with a twitch of his lips and a twinkling of his eyes. “Much better yes,” he said, voice coming out more scratchy then he expected. “Thank you.”

❛ Oh, wow! ❜ Glancing downwards, he remains silent for a beat before blinking, the innocent look on his face failing to forecast the subsequent ill-mannered words he spews. The bastard. ❛ It's too bad you're friends with the chain user. I'm sure you and Fei would've had plenty to talk about down there. ❜ Now, the question is... which one of them will he have to worry about when he goes to sleep tonight? Feitan would certainly have an attempt on his life after hearing a joke of this sort, but would she, too? Not likely... but it's better to be safe than sorry, and sleep with an eye open for the time being anyway.

PROMPTS FOR PEOPLE WHO REFUSE TO LET ANYONE CARE ABOUT THEM.
@deathfavor asked: " i'm not strong enough.. “ Kalluto mumbles the words to himself, the lower half of his face hidden beneath the fan. Brute force isn’t everything, he’s well aware of that. Not everyone in the troupe as it was were direct fighters. He’s also aware of the fact that he has unique skill sets due to his upbringing that are useful and he’s both put them to use for the troupe and continued to train those aspects to give him his own niche in the group. But....he’s still a child, and naturally it is frustrating to feel so far behind others despite his skills and successes.
“ ...Do you think anyone will train with me? “ Kalluto speaks up as he turns to look towards Shalnark - evidently aware of the other spider’s presence. He’s difficult to sneak up on. He hasn’t asked yet - but Shalnark seems like the best person to ask for something like solid numbers on the probability of it. He wouldn’t have dared ask when he had first joined, but now he’s started to find his voice. At least some of them might...Hopefully.
Perhaps if seen from an external perspective, Shalnark's silence at the admission might come across as heartless, but he sees no point in sugarcoating what he believes to be the truth. Kalluto is on the weaker side of the troupe as things currently stand, and in a fight against most of the other members he would hold no hope of drawing, let alone winning - in that sense, he is nowhere near strong enough, and it's only fair to acknowledge the fact alongside him.
However, Shalnark isn't cruel enough to ignore a sincere plea for help from a fellow member, and so he nods at the query and the contextual request for information. ❛ Sure, why not. As long as you ask danchou about it and he gives you the okay first. ❜ They are free to do as they please, but on matters like these - where training could be perceived as infighting if stumbled upon without the proper context - it's by far a better idea to let the head know what the legs are planning on, than simply hope a misunderstanding won't occur.
If Chrollo does agree to it, which Shalnark is almost certain he will considering the circumstances (as they'll always prefer a stronger ally over a weaker one, and they'll also gain the upper hand over the Zoldycks if the spider's training regimen turns out to be more efficient than theirs)... ❛ Let's see... if it's strength you want, you should start with Nobunaga or Machi. They'll probably be merciful enough to not knock you out immediately. Then after you're done with them, you could go for any of the others, but I'd recommend saving Fei for last. There's no point in fighting someone you can't even see until you've gotten good enough to either follow his movements or know how to block the incoming attacks. ❜ And to no one's surprise, Feitan would also be the one to hold back the least out of them all - that is to say, to not hold back at all. If he was allowed to be Kalluto's first sparring partner, he might as well be out of commission for months to come.
Shalnark ruminates on the idea for a moment longer, coming up with several possibilities for it, and although Kalluto might've not thought that far ahead yet, if they do decide on training him, they needn't stop at just sparring. ❛ You could train your other abilities too, you know, not just your raw strength, speed and robustness. For example, you could try avoiding my and Paku's attacks for a set amount of time to build more flexibility, or make use of Kortopi's Gallery Fake to destroy a certain number of props within a progressively tighter time limit to increase your accuracy. We could raise the difficulty for these too if necessary, of course. ❜
Out of the three of them, Shalnark would be the most likely to refuse the offer in favor of his own work, but since he's the one suggesting it, it's safe to say he would be on board for it, if only to help the troupe raise its overall strength and be owed a favor by their newest member. ❛ That said, you need to word it well when you ask. Most wouldn't mind if you asked to train with them, but others might need something more than that to not brush you off. Phrase it as a challenge for Phinks and Fei, and act like they're cowards if they refuse it, for example. But do keep in mind that they might rip you to shreds after that, as much as it'll be allowed within the rules we'll settle on. ❜

Though Shalnark has plenty of apartments and does live in (some of) them when separated from his fellow spiders, he's never thought of any of them as a shelter in the sense of "a home". The closest they have been perceived as are literal shelters from the rain, but he doesn't even consider them that most of the time since any structure over his head can count as a shelter in that case. Instead, in Shalnark's eyes a "true" shelter, namely a place where he feels safe and comfortable, is wherever the Phantom Troupe has set base at any given time. No matter how rundown or secluded it might be, or what shape it might take, as long as he knows that by going (or returning) there he'll find at least one other spider, that place will be considered a "shelter" in Shalnark's mind.

PROMPTS FOR LOTS AND LOTS OF FLIRTING.
@deathfavor asked: It’s been a busy afternoon, but a fun one. One of the rare days that seems like it is just for fun. Albeit, Chrollo is often happy to just spend time with his spiders. He doesn’t necessarily talk much or participate in everything, but there’s a noteworthy brightness to his eyes and he’s often still observing with a content smile. They really should get lunch though, or at least a snack. “what are you craving right now?” Chrollo asks Shalnark, his head canted to the side. No one asks him least they all end up solely at a bakery - but Chrollo is content to go anywhere his spider wishes. “ I’m sure we can find a place if there’s something specific you want. We should get food while its calmer, and then go from there.. Although. There’s an astrological phenomena occurring tonight that I want to see. “ Not that he’ll make others - but it’s also a silent invitation to join him if Shalnark is interested.
A contemplative hum escapes Shalnark at the question, hungry, but not yet enough to know for certain what it is that his body craves most. ❛ Hm... a cheeseburger, or pizza. ❜ On any other day he might have also considered a proper meal at a restaurant or otherwise, but today has shaped up to be a day of whims, and whimsical it shall remain until the end. They had done as they had pleased since the earliest hours of the morning, following impulses moreso than stricter plans, and thus it feels only fitting for them to continue in the same manner they have until now - with their first thought being the one they choose to act upon.
Chrollo's comment distracts the sixth from pondering any further on his choices (cheeseburger and pizza having both surfaced in his mind at around the same time) though, and he blinks in mild curiosity at the vague wording. Not at his leader being vague - it'd be more of a surprise if he wasn't, but at what he could've meant by that - surely, if Chrollo knew, he should too, right? Turquoises stare at the head in silence for no more than two beats, recapping their geographical position, date and the only clear term used, 'tonight', before a glint in Shalnark's eyes heralds the moment of realization and he exclaims in understanding.
❛ Astronomical phenomena...? Oh! The Perseid meteor shower? ❜ Not a particularly rare meteor shower if one knew where to look for it, as in fact it's one of the few that count as yearly happenings, but nonetheless it's one of the oldest in history and one of the most beautiful few they can hope to catch in their lifetime. Plus, if Chrollo wishes to see it now, it must mean he hasn't found himself in the right place at the right moment for it until today, and if Shalnark's being honest, he hasn't either - not that he'd thought to search for it, though - it hadn't been important enough for him to, but it's definitely not something he'll refuse to see if given the chance to.
This newfound awareness is enough for Shalnark to disregard his previous struggle about food, not even considering not tagging along for the auspicious event now that he's been made aware of it (and now that his thirst for knowledge has been piqued), a hand finding itself on his hip while his next words flow as easily as though this decision has been fact, rather than something he'd struggled mulling over mere moments ago. ❛ Then let's grab some burgers now, and order pizza for later. It's probably less messy to eat while looking up at the sky. ❜
Besides, if any of the others opted to join them in this endeavor, pizza was going to be the easier pick to consistently get a hold of with minimal effort, and between pizza and hamburgers, the former is the food that'd theoretically last them longer. That settles that, then. However, there is still one other issue left to solve, if Chrollo hasn't already taken care of it... ❛ Have you found a good spot to watch from, or should we also add that to the itinerary? ❜

TOBIAS: No Moral Compass.
You are cold, analytical, and you strive to be as objective as a person of flesh and blood can be. Either don't understand the concepts of good and evil, or you understand it perfectly and think it's a load of bull. Some may call you selfish, some may call you unfeeling, but you're just doing what you believe will yield the best results, plain and simple. Why bother with petty ideals of right or wrong when you can do what will actively help those you give a fuck about? Your goals may be selfish or noble or anything in between, but you will not let anyone make you feel like garbage for going after them. You couldn't care less about what people brand you as. You just care about getting shit done by any means necessary.

You are an excellent actor, and you do adore putting on a smile knowing your worst enemy, the one you hate the most, doesn't suspect a thing when they tell you their deepest secrets. Although Shalnark is one of the more "well adjusted to society" members of the troupe, the concept of tenderness is just as alien to him as it is to the rest of them. He knows what it means, he's capable of being tender to a select few people (only within the troupe though, and even then he's only tender to Feitan, Chrollo and Pakunoda without external prompting at play) and he can understand when he should fake being caring to others, but no matter what your relationship with him is, Shalnark will always freeze first when offered tenderness.
Tenderness is something he isn't at all used to despite how sociable he may seem, and frankly depending on the situation it might even make him uncomfortable if it comes across as genuine (while if it's a joke/dare he'll just go with the flow), so time, place and context are all very important pieces of information to take into consideration when deciding when and how to show him actual care.
At best (with the three spiders mentioned above) he'll initially be silent before ultimately reciprocating (although he'd still feel a bit lost on what's gotten into them), most of the time (aka with the other troupe members) he'll feel a tad discomforted and either stand awkwardly until they've had enough or outright nudge them away from him to get them to stop, and at worst you might lose an arm or a life depending on his mood and what exactly it is that you've done/said.
Shalnark doesn't mind touching others (although he has some reservations even about that), but contrary to popular belief, he isn't a fan of being touched if it's anything more than a pat on the arm/shoulder/back. With Feitan he doesn't mind it because of the nature of their relationship, and with Chrollo & Pakunoda he's come to expect random bouts of affection here and there over the years because they're naturally caring when it comes to fellow spiders, so these three get a pass, whereas the rest trying to be tender will always lead to him making fun of them (if the tenderness is directed at someone else) or to him feeling tense and uncomfortable (if it's directed at himself).
