i really admire kent monkman not only because his art is very good but also because he's kind of got it figured out? like he makes unapologetically indigenous, queer, genderfuck art, which means he's a great land for canadian museums who want to have exhibits & pieces about deconstructing their colonial history and from more diverse artists. and kent monkman gets to say his piece about his identity & the ways in which it's marginalized, while also taking advantage of museums' desire to contemporize themselves. and all this while making very good art.
(i'm saying this because i've seen his work in the national gallery of canada, the musée des beaux-arts de montréal, and the national gallery of nova scotia, and musée mccord had an exhibit by him a few years back, before they had their permanent exhibition on indigenous voices. i can't think of another canadian artist who is so ubiquitous, really.)

Just visited the first major exhibition devoted to the photographer Alexander Henderson (1831-1913) at the McCord Stewart Museum. Henderson's love for the Canadian wilderness is evident in his stunning landscape photography. The exhibit showcases 250 original prints, reproductions of photographs, and archival documents that take you on Henderson's amazing journey through Montreal, Quebec, and Western Canada. #ArtMTL #insiderMTL #MTLMoments #McCordStewartMuseum #AlexanderHenderson (at Musée McCord Stewart Museum) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpjBvwArdlJ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Mirroring the silhouette beneath, this c1912 evening coat remains full at the torso and tapers towards the legs. It is an example of fashion in motion, bidding farewell to the hourglass that had persisted for decades, heralding an alternative shape in slinky grey. Musée McCord.
