you ever stare into the middle distance and just. think. about how Doctor Who series one episode eight "Father's Day" first signaled that time itself had gone screwy by having the radio start playing a song that didn't exist yet in 1987....... and then lapse right back into Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up." in an episode that aired on 14 May 2005. two full years before the invention of the rickroll.

i get people saying it does ncuti a disservice to have to share his first episode as the doctor with tennant instead of the traditional passing of the torch, but i think it's a testament to his talent that he never once feels like he's playing second fiddle to THE most popular doctor of the modern era. he owns the screen from moment one. he doesn't need to be passed the torch, he took it himself and ran with it, and i feel like that's very fitting from what we've seen of his doctor so far
