Moshang AU where Airplane transmigrates into a demon NPC from one of the fanservice clans he created, rather than into Shang Qinghua.
So basically, there was a point in time where a lot of PIDW chapters were just Luo Binghe running around propelled by political plots and rebellions from the demon kingdoms, and most of that actually just ended up being Luo Binghe collecting wives with cute animal ears and tails and various abilities that Airplane used all of once and then completely forgot about. They covered the usual bases of the sexy cat girls, sexy fox girls, sexy bunny girls, sexy bird girls with wings, etc, before moving into more, erm, niche animal hybrid demon territory.
Which is all a roundabout way of explaining Cute Hamster Boy Shang Qinghua in his faithful-to-canon clan of Hamster Demons, whose primary skills include cute squeaking noises and digging abilities.
In the process of making his braindead written-in-a-panic-at-3-am "world building" on this front actually function in a real version of the setting, there has got to be a way for the otherwise-unremarkable fanservice demon tribes to actually survive the incredibly hostile environment which Airplane otherwise described, though. Like yeah sure when you're writing a book you can just say in one breath that the demon realms are incredibly brutal and cutthroat, and then in the next that this tribe of bunny girls with no visible skills at self-defense has existed here for thousands of years, but if you actually tried to set that up in some kind of a simulation the bunny girls wouldn't last one year, let alone one thousand.
In that case of Airplane's hamster tribe, their digging skills are so supernaturally prodigious that they are able to construct massive underground fortifications in otherwise hostile terrain. But that still doesn't solve all of their problems, because they still need to acquire food, and for that they mostly do have to go up to the surface. Some of their weakness is mitigated by sheer numbers -- they have a lot of kids to offset the high mortality rate. However, to further increase the survival rates, the hamster demons also try and make contracts with some of the local liege lords or ruling clans whenever they expand into a new territory. In exchange for protection, they send some of their extraneous family members out as servants, to either cement alliances through marriage (that high fertility is helpful and was indeed the crux of Wife #whatever's acquisition in canon) or to work as diggers or even high-level architects.
As the like, twelfth son of the Hamster Demon chieftain, this is Airplane's fate. On the one hand he's highly positioned enough to get an education, and his plot knowledge helps a lot. On the other hand, he's not high enough in the hierarchy to be kept around, so it's either go work for some other clan or else risk his neck doing missions on the hostile and deadly surface. Neither seems great, but Airplane would rather try his luck as a sycophant than a warrior.
Luckily (or unluckily, depending on his mood when he thinks about it) when Airplane reaches sixteen years of age, it's around the same time that the Hamster clan's tunnels have expanded towards the Northern Desert. Airplane ends up being part of the "hiii~ pleasedon'tkillus let's be friends~" tribute to Mobei Jun's father.
Mobei Jun's father tosses him to Mobei Jun, so Airplane dutifully latches onto him in order to avoid being eaten by any of the other retainers. Airplane has been educated in various subterranean building skills and is under the impression that he's been given to MBJ in order to build him his own palace or something?
Everyone else assumes that the Hamster demon is a concubine.
Mobei Jun also thinks that's what he's been given, but he's too busy bristling in teenage offense at being given a concubine by his father to actually consider taking Airplane to bed. So when Airplane starts doing other things for him, he just sort of bemusedly lets it happen.
Gradually it becomes apparent that Airplane himself isn't interested in being a concubine. No. Clearly, this Hamster is gunning for future empress of the Northern Desert! How else would one explain all the lengths he's going to not only to win Mobei Jun's favor, but to secure his position and ensure his future rule? The system also wants Airplane to ensure the Abyss plot arc happens in the future, too, which means Airplane helps Mobei Jun win and instigate conflicts against the righteous cultivation sects too.
Obviously, Airplane wants power. Mobei Jun knows that if he gets an heir off of Airplane that will be that, the wily minx will use any children to secure his position, and MBJ is not convinced he could control himself well enough to prevent that sort of eventually. Airplane is fiendishly attractive, and he clearly knows it, and Mobei Jun is not sure if he wants to accept what increasingly seems to be the inevitable. He won't be a ladder for someone else's ambitions! But... as long as Airplane remains loyal to him, he will consider it. Even if Airplane never harbors any true affection for him, and simply considers him a means to an end. If, by the time he ascends the Hamster has not betrayed him or tried to elevate himself by flipping over this uncle's side, or seduced any of his other relatives or any of the highly-placed lords all salivating to steal MBJ's would-be empress, then Mobei Jun will grant his wish and make him the second most powerful demon in the North.
Airplane, meanwhile, just wants a snack and a nap. Maybe if he builds a secure enough fortress and amasses enough of an intelligence network and hoards a few advantages for himself, and figures out how to stop pissing off MBJ, he'll survive long enough to retire. Somehow.

I need to straighten out my tags, but if people haven't noticed yet: hi, I'm falling pretty hard into a danmei rabbit hole.
Still loving ffxiv! Never abandoning those blorbos, they give me so much joy you wouldn't believe it. But most of my faves have been phased out of the MSQ (don't get me to start talking about Zenos because I'm still angry about how he was handled), I have mixed feelings about EW (the emotional beats hit, for the most part, but when I got thinking about it, some parts of the story really didn't work well for me, especially gestures at everything Hydaelyn and her bullshit) and right now we are facing like a half-year content drought so like...
...yeah. Interests wander. And I want to be more active about posting stuff. Maybe ramble once in a while. Share ideas that I don't have the spoons to write right now, maybe they end up inspiring someone or just entertain them in case I ever get around to writing them. That sort of thing.
I have some interest in BG3 stuff too, but my interests there are like. 300% tied up in this very self-indulgent reincarnation into time travel fix-it AU Emperor/Ansur fic I'm working on and the fandom as a whole really didn't endear itself to me, so I probably not going to make much noise about that save for reblogging some art. Idk
Anyway, I'm kind of rereading SVSSS because it's one of the few books I have on my e-reader, so it's perfect to read in-between classes and I got infected with all the brainrot - QiJiu, MoShang, I would sell Tianlang Jun for a cornchip and listen to him whine about it for the next century, that sort of thing. I'm still warming up to Bingmei, currently kinda lukewarm on the guy. I have a kind of embarrassingly long outline for a potential fic I might share if I ever work up the courage to it, it has literally everyone in it shadjfjsahfgds.
And I really need to read Devil Venerable again. And yell about it. And maybe draw for it, like a lot. I heard before I picked it up that Cyan Wings writes really good funny books and like, hell yes, 200% can confirm. Also this is the most ace xianxia novel I have read - admittedly haven't read that many yet, but still, damn, hats off to the author. Peak "Wtf is this romance shit?" "Idk, but you can't stab it so it's not my problem." vibes. Someone please give Zhongli Qian a raise, my guy is doing so much work to be the one sane, rational person in this mess.

Would you be up to do the Moshang - Servant for a Different King 👀👀👀
I know this one is going to be at least 20-30k words, so I haven't really started writing it past outlines. This is one of the first fic ideas I threw out there, so summary for the new followers:
This is a world in which there is no System pressure to follow the plot. Shang Qinghua saved Mobei-Jun, but Mobei-Jun rejected him as a servant. Later, Shang Qinghua ended up ditching Cang Qiong Mountain Sect in order to save Su Xiyan (and Luo Binghe's life).
Tianlang-Jun never fell. Su Xiyan married him. The protagonist has two happy parents (ruling over the Demon Realm with an iron fist). Shang Qinghua ended up leaving Cang Qiong permanently and is now Tianlang-Jun's treasured servant and trusted advisor. Basically the third-most-powerful person in the Demon Realm! (After TLJ and SXY. Zhuzhi-Lang could be up there, but ZZL's main ambition in life seems to be to nap on sunny rocks.)
Mobei-Jun is forced to come to Tianlang-Jun's court for some reason and Shang Qinghua is not warned of this sudden visit for another reason, and Mobei-Jun finds out that the teenage boy he rejected as his servant grew up and is now Tianlang-Jun's servant.
Mobei-Jun falls in love with a Shang Qinghua who does not belong to him, kind of outranks him, and is utterly untouchable.
Also, I added in my notes at some point that this fic should become a Bodyguard AU partway through, because Mobei-Jun as Shang Qinghua's Tianlang-Jun-mandated bodyguard sounds delicious. (Tianlang-Jun is my bro. He will make all my self-indulgent plots happen because he is a man of great taste.)
Here are some very random snippets from my notes document:
1.
Shang Qinghua going about his daily life as the trusted advisor of the Demon Emperor, doing administration work for Tianlang-Jun, which the man is avoiding.
Shang Qinghua has to follow the man to the family wing to get his approval on something, and gets suckered into staying for lunch with Su Xiyan and little Binghe (and little Binghe’s nursemaid, Luo Jiahui). Tianlang-Jun can’t work because he’s ill, he claims.
“I’m lovesick,” Tianlang-Jun said, making moon eyes at his Empress.
Empress rolled her eyes, but gazed down at him fondly.
“You are incurable,” she agreed.
Tianlang-Jun and Su Xiyan are like this ALL THE TIME.
And...
2.
Tianlang-Jun talking to Mobei-Jun about Shang Qinghua:
Tianlang-Jun: “An invaluable asset, isn’t he? Ah, I considered that he ought to be married into the family, to keep his gifts with us, but my silly nephew wouldn’t even entertain the idea! I suppose that I could marry him myself… make him my second spouse… but, ah, even that doesn’t stop the most persistent demons, does it?”
Mobei-Jun, a child of wife-theft, gritting his teeth: “...No, Junshang.”
Mobei-Jun now has beef with Zhuzhi-Lang! Poor Zhuzhi doesn’t know what’s going on!
In every universe, Mobei-Jun should have beef with Zhuzhi-Lang over something to do with Shang Qinghua because I find it hilarious. Mobei-Jun has had enough of this guy!

I saw a svsss fanfic fusion with WoF but of course it wasn’t the WoF I know but it made me think.
Moshang WoF AU
Now the general plot in WoF doesn’t exactly fit with Moshang unless we’re doing something similar to the second arc but NO. I don’t want to. I want something similar to the FIRST ONE.
Which is why I’ve come up with the idea, so, rather than the sand wing succession war thing it’ll be….
A PETTY WAR BETWEEN THE ICEWINGS AND NIGHTWINGS.
SQH shall be a Nightwing, and MBJ is a icewing
And since I already said war, you probably already know there roles by now.
And I know in WoF it’s queens rather than kings but in this AU it’ll be kings for mobei-Jin
——————————————————
I’ll continue this idea later in another post such has addressing other characters roles like LBH and SQQ, hell maybe I’ll make their own little AU if I ever finish this one.
If there’s like anything similar to this, send me the link I want to read it. And of course., anybody who has the right skills and motivation may use this idea

More of the Moshang Dragon AU but this time there’s some designs for Phoenix!LBH and SQQ who’s grown feathers and claws because he’s been around LBH so long and Divine Beasts have a pretty strong influence on humans.  Also Hualian dragon AU because you cannot convince me that Hua Cheng wouldn’t be the most intimidating and awesome dragon out there who every other dragon is scared shitless of... except Xie Lian who first meets him when trapped in a magic net and Hua Cheng is SO gentle when helping him out.
Also... tail holding. TAIL HOLDING. AND BIG WING HUGS!!

Is Mobei Jun aware of the reasons & cultural significance of a human suddenly growing wings? Or does he think that sprouting wings is "within the normal range of Things That Happen In Puberty" things for both humans and demons?
Ok on one hand, yes, I already decided for this AU that both the demons and cultivators both know the details of Wing Obtainment since it’s a blessing of heaven and demons themselves are descended of fallen gods so that knowledge would have been passed down generationally. and actually demons have even grander ideas regarding Winged cultivators being Just and Good especially compared to the corruption they know runs rampant in the average cultivator circles on the mortal realm, so they put winged cultivators on pedestals and they’re actually glorified in demon society perhaps even more than in cultivator society, which is gonna be real fun for SQH
on the OTHER hand, it would be hilarious if MBJ finds SQH alone in the middle of the woods growing wings from his back and just goes “must be some type of human puberty. that sucks bro”

Wings au. Will there be Mobei Jun going like "This probably means that he's into Bird Things, right? What do birds like? Nests? Sea Food? Hanging out in a giant birdcage that's dangling off a high cliff, and eating melon-seeds and seafood?"
Winged cultivators are considered very sacred in demon society, actually. Wings from the dantian are a blessing of heaven itself and demons are descendants of fallen gods, so they know this perhaps even better than cultivators, who are only mortals, do. So Mobei Jun might have some concept of how to treat a freshly winged cultivator, but it also comes with a cultural-born reverence that makes SQH uncomfortable, especially considering how rough MBJ was with him before the wings came into the game.
Outside of all that, though, MBJ desperately wants to touch the soft feathers. He really really wants to help preen the wings. He wants to so bad. But he can’t, because only the deeply trusted of Winged Ones can touch their wings, and MBJ isn’t fool enough to think that the cultivator that he’s been using as a servant trusts him.

Wing AU! How does the rest of Cang Qiong react to winged SQH? Cos previously they didn't have much of an opinion on him but now that very same person had grown wings!
Wings are only given to the truly righteous cultivators. It’s so rare that it hasn’t happened in thousands of years. It’s almost thought to be a myth — one that is strictly believed in by both cultivators and non-cultivator society alike, but still very myth-like.
So for it to happen now, to a disciple that truly no one had very big hopes for, and who was in fact looked down upon (to a far more active description by some) is humbling to all.
Shang Qinghua is treated half celebrity, half pariah.
Celebrity, because wings are from heaven, and that means that the gods themselves have decided that Shang Qinghua is more righteous than any cultivator who has formed their golden core in thousands of years. They treat him with varying degrees of reverence and devotion, not unlike a messiah.
Pariah, because amongst those ‘not righteous enough’ cultivators, many are stricken by jealousy. They have always been stronger than Shang Qinghua. They are better off financially because of their smart decisions in dealing with the wealth rightly owed to them (not because they were born into it obviously). Their reputations are spotless compared to this disciple who is barely more than a kid, too skinny from a family that nobody knows and without a backbone to stand up for himself. Clearly there was some mistake, Shang Qinghua must have somehow stole the wing blessing from someone else.
Object of reverence or object of jealousy, either one puts Shang Qinghua on a pedestal, either one means that people pay attention to him now, and Shang Qinghua has never dealt well with attention. It’s horrible and he hates it. He hates these stupid wings.
It’s horrible and it makes him wish he’d accepted the ice demons’ (MBJ’s, specifically) offer of staying in the North, safe (to a certain degree of safe) and protected (to a certain degree of protected).

Shang Quinhua wrote the Wings Lore as a way to make (some) wives fancy enough to compete with the sexy demons with horns, claws, etc. Does developing wings shift his estimates of his own hotness, at all?
It was for exactly one (1) wife and only one wife. Actually, he was proud of himself for the development of that lore point, even if it did get forgotten amongst the hundreds that came after he lost his creative muse for writing (and will to live lol).
However, in reality? Experiencing it for himself? It was fine happening to a fictional person, just as all things are, but growing wings rapidly out of your skeleton is Very Painful, and Shang Qinghua is already self conscious because he doesn’t feel like he belongs in his sect or even this world. So, yet another thing that marks him as different than everyone else? That doesn’t make him feel special, even if he does know the lore behind cultivators with wings (and obviously this world has it all twisted anyway, bc there’s nothing special about him). It just makes him feel like a freak.

I love ur AUs and writing style. pls dump some more wing AU hcs on me please if you have any, it is not a curse but a blessing. how does sqh’s shizun react?
I should go through and collect all these snippets and actually put it on Ao3 as a story by this point lol…
Mo Yaomei found Shang Lei when he was only six years old, battered and bruised from a life on the streets and chasing dogs for food. He took the skeleton of a child back to An Ding with him, and in the decades that followed he has become the leading cause of Mo Yaomei’s collection of gray hairs.
If nothing else told him that it was time to retire, it was this obvious sign of aging.
Shang Lei’s habit of disappearing has always caused him grief and worry, despite the fact that the boy always returns in the end. If not for the fact that any punishment slides off him like water, ignored, then Mo Yaomei would lock his errant favorite disciple in his office on the mountain. But just as he likes to disappear, Shang Lei can find his way in or out of anywhere no matter the circumstances.
It’s this alone that soothes Mo Yaomei’s worry during his various absences. That, whatever sort of events his disciple may be caught up in, Shang Lei can and will find a way out of it without any help.
That doesn’t mean he no longer tries. The thought of his disciple son out there alone, facing the unknown without any aid pulls at Mo Yaomei’s heart like nothing else. In this teacher’s mind, Shang Lei — Qinghua— will always be that tiny, dirt-scuffed little boy staring up at him with honey eyes that knew too much.
When Shang Qinghua goes missing, there’s a protocol on An Ding. A disciple comes to notify Mo Yaomei that his now head disciple has not been seen in too long, and Mo Yaomei sends off a missive to the other peaks to keep their eyes open for any sign of the boy’s eventual return. He continues his work, this time slightly more exasperated.
A week passed and An Ding prepares for Shang Qinghua’s return. Stacks of documents are set aside for him to make up for what he’d missed in his absence, and the emergency medical kit on both the main offices and Shang Qinghua’s private rooms are restocked.
Another week passes. Mo Yaomei is informed by a slightly concerned martial nephew from Qian Cao that his head disciple has missed the second head disciple meeting in a row. Mo Yaomei feels as if something is off. Shang Qinghua usually is never gone this long.
Half ways through the third week with absolutely no news and a growing disquiet amongst his disciples, the An Ding peak lord is besides himself with worry. No one has seen or heard nothing. None of their best tracking talisman’s from the research peak are working. His shidi even sat and did a homing ritual and it didn’t work. The only reason Mo Yaomei knows his head disciple is not dead is that his life crystal in the census room still glows bright blue.
There’s a misty purple climbing up from its base, but no orange or red. Shang Qinghua is not in danger, wherever he is. Just in pain.
It does little to settle Mo Yaomei’s worry.
Finally, the third week is almost finished and Mo Yaomei is about to step out of the sect himself to join the search party, when the same martial nephew from Qian Cao sends a lower disciple to summon him. Frantically. Mo Yaomei drops everything and rushes to follow.
While he is fretful and concerned and oh so worried, the news still settles that rapid beating of his heart that these weeks have cursed him with. The knowledge his son disciple is finally safe home is the answer to his most fervent hope and prayer.
The fact that Shang Qinghua now has some extra feathery appendages, well… They are beautiful wings, he can tell already even if they’re currently covered in blood.
And out of anyone that Mo Yaomei has known in his long life, Shang Qinghua would be the only one he could ever believe to be blessed by the heavens.
His disciple is home, safe. That’s all that matters. Everything else can come later.

Lmao my last writing blurb for the Moshang Wing! AU I forgot that SQH is still just a head disciple, not a peak lord yet.
Everyone who reads that post pls pretend I didn’t call him or his martial siblings peak lords, ok? Ok thanks lmao

In the Moshang Wing!AU, what are the other peak lords reactions to SQH's wings? How are they revealed? (Will it be a dramatic reveal, eg. Rescuing his disciples or protecting non-cultivators from demons?) What are other people's reactions? I both want and don't want to know the OPM's reaction to SQH's wings. Creep.
Are you giving him red-crowned crane wings like @mediumsizedpidegon suggested, or are you sticking to the typical angelic white?
Every time I get an ask about Wings!Moshang AU I go feral and come out the other end with so many muse for this 😫is it a curse
When head disciple Shang Qinghua is reported missing, there are no alarms raised on Cang Qiong Mountains.
After all, is there any point? He has gone missing before. The first time was before he was ever even an inner disciple of An Ding. It’s a pattern, it’s a habit — it’s become a characteristic of his.
In the beginning, of course there had been worry, concern, scolding. However, as the years climbed onward, one truth became apparent to everyone, and it was this; if Shang Qinghua was missing, he would not be found.
Each and every time, no matter how long it takes, he always comes crawling back on his own.
No amount of search parties dispatched would would ever find a single clue as to his whereabouts. After a decade of failures, they just stopped trying.
Perhaps such a circumstance might make some suspicious. Spies amongst the sects are not unheard of, after all, and Shang Qinghua’s regular disappearing acts would go hand in hand with such a position.
Yes, the idea was brought up more than once in some meeting or other, though in the end nothing much was done about it. This was because they could all eventually agree on one thing — that Shang Qinghua did not have the temperament of being a spy.
He is a people pleaser. The type of disciple that would scramble with desperation the second he got it in his head that something might be expected of him. That didn’t change much after he became a head disciple, which might make some sneer at him, but to others it was almost endearing.
Someone like that would not have the ability to even encounter the thought of turning coat to serve another side.
And so Shang Qinghua was left to his devices, disappearing from the sect and then reappearing later with barely anyone batting an eye beyond some frustration of certain forms and reports being left untouched in his absence. Deadlines did have to be kept, after all, no matter the strange habit.
Which is why no one questions it when Shang Qinghua missed a head disciple meeting. He’s missed them before, and it had only been three days since he was last seen on his peak. He’s never been gone for more than a week. With no important matters being discussed, anything that might concern him was simply pushed to the next meeting and this one concluded without him. Business continued as normal within the mountain sect.
It was his subsequence absence at said next meeting that finally managed to raise a few eyebrows.
Head disciple meetings are a biweekly affair, wherein all twelve head disciples gathered to discuss the running of the different peaks and talk business. They are preliminary meetings to the peak lord meetings that they will be conducting in the future, once the current peak lords ascend.
For Shang Qinghua to miss not only one, but two of such meetings, with no report of him being seen anywhere in the sect between them, is to say that Shang Qinghua has been missing for over two weeks. Twice as long as he has ever been gone before.
The subject of the second meeting leaned more toward discussing the possible whereabouts of the head disciple of their fourth peak rather than anything else. The debate was inconclusive, and the meeting adjourned with more questions than answers.
After all, when Shang Qinghua has disappeared, he cannot be found until he choses to return.
The pressure of being a head disciple, it was theorized, must be getting to him. Running away to escape the demands of the position, even for a little bit, is nothing to frown at. Sometimes we all need room to breathe.
And, in the end, no matter how long he is gone, he always returns.
This time he is gone for longer, but nothing is done. He is their brother, they say, and they have to trust that he will come back as he always has.
Another week goes by with no sign of the missing head disciple. It’s here that worry finally begins to get the better of them. Was their trust misplaced after all? Did something… truly happen, this time?
Or, was something happening each time, every time he was gone, and he never told anyone, and none of them ever noticed?
They can do nothing but make guesses. It’s a powerless feeling. They are disciples of a powerful cultivation section, but not even their search talismans are working. Which has always happened when someone tries to find Shang Qinghua after he’s disappeared, but it’s nonetheless disheartening that it still doesn’t work now, when something might honestly be wrong.
They go to their peak lords, who lend hand in the search. Just as before, though, there are no results. Shang Qinghua cannot be found, and it would be damn impressive if it wasn’t so worrying.
They can only wait.
It’s a few days before the third biweekly meeting that Shang Qinghua finally does crawl his way back to the sect.
The reason for his disappearance this time not a single one of them could have ever guessed correctly even if they’d been given hints. It’s something that would have never occurred to them even at their most imaginative.
After all, this is Shang Qinghua they’re talking about. Small, cowardly, somewhat reliable but not exactly trustworthy, never the strongest. Out of every cultivator in China, he’s the last one anyone would have thought this could happen to.
His return is abrupt and with no little drama. He appears directly in Mu Qingfang’s hospital office, the torn remnants of a teleportation talisman clutched in bloodied fists. He’s curled in on himself, robes as red as his hands and clearly injured. There’s blood all over him, coating his limbs and his face, even his—
— wings.
My Qingfang gapes. Unprofessionally, it takes him far too many lengthy moments to gather himself together, and when the implications of what’s happened finally hit him, the head disciple of the medical peak goes deathly pale.
This brother of his, this small and shy and flighty shixiong. This seemingly subpar cultivator whose faithfulness to the righteous path and their own sect has been ruthlessly questioned by even himself like the rest of their martial sibling again and again.
He’s grown wings. He’s been gone for three and a half weeks and in that time he has grown wings.
Mu Qingfang scrambles to kneel next to his shixiong, hands raised but not touching Shang Qinghua’s huddled form. He can see that he is trembling from the pain, and it is no wonder — three weeks; his blood congealing and already dried in places. His face beneath the red is paler than a ghost.
The — wings, are tucked in tightly against his back, and they twitch and spasm with his pain and discomfort. They’re unkempt and dirty and shivering. Mu Qingfang can’t even see what color they are beneath the grime.
Goosebumps prickle at Mu Qingfang’s skin, raising the hairs on the back of his neck as he stares at the wings, then at his unresponsive shixiong. He finally places a hand on Shang Qinghua’s shoulder, and Shang Qinghua flinches away from him.
