#MommyMonday It’s important to have a tribe. • When I was pregnant, my mom stressed the importance of having a tribe of women surrounding me, who were not single & childless. That I needed to find friends who could relate to life partnerships and parenting. I didn’t understand what she meant until the beginning of my #fourthtrimester . When my single childless friends were telling me how tired they were from work all week, so they would be sleeping in all weekend. And I was just trying to schedule a shower and laundry for three people, all while recovering from a #csection & trying to will my breast milk to come into my right breast. They didn’t understand the surge and depletion of hormones. The body dysmorphia. Or navigating the change in dynamic of going from a 2 person household to a 2.5 person household...while the half a person holds the two bigger persons hostage and at his beckon call with the ring of his mighty 2 week old lungs. • Never forgetting my childless, single friends, I was happy to compartmentalize my life by introducing “mommy friends”, “married/committed friends” and “#IBD friends” into my life. Recently adding “single moms friends ” & “IBDMom friends” into the mix. My tribe has sections. It’s not, all or nothing, it’s complex. Because my life is complex. Sometimes the sections melt together and sometimes they don’t. But my tribe is my own. It’s what I need as I evolve as a woman and a mother. My tribe keeps me centered and grounded. Loved and loving. Motivated and realistic. I am eternally grateful for this group of women that I can admire, honor, engage with, share and listen to. • My tribe is my council within my, Village.
