Spotify: we think you'll like listening to Gideon the Ninth...
Me: I have more important things to do than listen to it for the third (?) time...
Also me: But I want a dessert.

Disadvantages of audiobooks: hard to pay attention to sometimes, can't always understand everything that's said, no idea how things are spelled
Advantages of audiobooks: this
God bless you, Moira Quirk.
Transcript:
"No," said Dulcinea. "Oh, no no no. Stay awake."
Gideon couldn't say anything but blearrghhh, mainly because blood was coming enthusiastically out of every hole in her face.

"Uhm…. Well… if you wake up in the morning and you say: ‘I need a mug… and a toy pig’… then yes! Yes, its a relly good place to go”
It really took me too long to finish this animation, but here is queen Ianthe being perfect again.
The audio clip is from the Locked Tomb Podcast, episode 22, where our voice acting goddess Moira Quirk explains where her take on Ianthe’s voice came from. As soon as I listened to it I just couldnt help myself, and had to animate the heck out of it.

listening through the locked tomb series audiobooks you can tell the narrator gets better as the books go on, there's such a stark contrast between nona and gideon, and I honestly think the growth in narration and voices had helped me enjoy nona more than the others... that and of course I'm always down for nona shenanigans.

Again, if you have not listened to the Locked Tomb audiobook, do yourself a favor. Moira Quirk is a genius narrator, I love her and all her characterizations. Her comedic delivery is also incredible.

Woah, i don't know that I've ever understood the assignment as well as Moira Quirk understands Gideon the Ninth. That audiobook makes me embarrassed for other audiobooks. Like...holy shit.
Me reading GtN: She's a smartass i get it. Calm down.
Me listening to GtN: i actually get it now. I would die for this woman.

,,Harrow The Ninth” audiobook is just negative affirmations. YOU threw up on god’s carpet. YOU fell in love with a 10000 year old corpse. YOU have worms in your brain. Thank you audiobook voice for telling me this. I will rip my ears off now.

i’m writing a fic for the Legends & Lattes book (because this is a “write the orc x succubus lesbian smut you wish to see in the world” situation) and I didn’t listen to the audio book of L&L but I did listen to the audio books of the TLT and somehow Tandri’s voice in my head has become indistinguishable from Moira Quirk’s voice for Camilla Hect

When I was stuck only listening to HtN on audio (and overall consuming the book for the first time), there were times I would forget to save my progress for where I was in listening to on the little audio book tab. This made the audio go back to the most recent save every time I forgot to save progress
There was one bookmark on the audio that I ended up listening to repetitively while at the airport, and that was Ianthe saying, "Should we hold hands in girlish solidarity?"
This happened multiple times to the point where I started quoting it (in the exact tone of Moira used) out loud since it was simply stuck in my head on a loop. My brother would give me the most confused look while we were waiting at the airport together. It took a bit not to laugh every time I had to say the words, and he would just keep asking what's so funny (absolutely nothing)
I think the words still loop in the back of my head to this day. Why Ianthe quotes linger to be used I'll never know, but I feel so bad for my friends and family that have to endure me quoting tlt books whenever I see fit (or when I just need to get the Moira voice of characters out of my system)

While I would love to see a live-action adaptation of The Locked Tomb, I fear what would become of it: Hollywood is too greedy and there is absolutely no budget for the huge amount of cgi needed.
So, I'm starting to agree with all of you that an adaptation should be animated, on these conditions:
It MUST be done by the Arcane studios, because well... I mean.
It should have a Hellsing vibe.
Moira Quirk needs to voice Gideon and Harrow.

Getting into The Locked Tomb via audiobook and was not prepared for the Exo Stranger to be telling me the stories and doing the voices.

Sorry, it took me a while to connect the actor's name to where I'd heard her before. Now I'm just gonna imagine this is how Eris and Drifter passed the time at the fire during Beyond Light.

There’s nothing that hypes me up more than listening to Moira Quirk read the 9 houses poem at the beginning of each tlt book. The way I recite along with her, until, building into a frenzy, I throw my head back and scream “NINE FOR THE TOMB, AND FOR ALL THAT WAS LOST!” is honestly better than any drug.

Something that’s been fascinating for me is seeing the wildly different experience people have had unpicking mysteries in the text version of Nona the Ninth versus the people who have listened to the audio book.
I listen to the audio book because of Moira Quirk’s incredible performances - the hallmarks of which are her abilities to make every character’s voice distinct, and to narrate wildly written passages in a way that mirrors their writing vocally.
This does mean, however, that if you have a memory for voices that you are able to identify characters who are otherwise unnamed in a scene in the text by the way Quirk voices them. It makes some of the more confusing scenes (from Nona’s perspective) less confusing to the listener than they are to the character. It also means that a lot of the mysteries of the book become more apparent more quickly.
It’s been a fascinating experience.
