Persona 3 But Better Social Links
Tumblr media
After playing through both P3P (femc) and P3R, I have some OPINIONS on socials links, and what I think each game got right and wrong. So here are my thoughts, and tarot card assignments:
The Fool - SEES
Tumblr media
Holding infinite potential, but ignorant of the perils that lay ahead...SEES is truly the perfect choice for the Fool. No notes.
2. The Magician - Junepei Iori
Tumblr media
The Magician card represents outstanding willpower, and a person who has all the potential they need to succeed, even if they don't realize it. And that's Junpei in a nutshell. Plus, Junpei as the magician means we don't have to deal with Kenji and all his weird teacher romance nonsense, which is a win in my book.
3. The High Priestess - Fuuka Yamagishi
Tumblr media
The High Priestess card represents passivity, reflection, and intuition, which is perfect for our quiet navigator. Another perfect choice.
4. The Empress - Mitsuru Kirijo
Tumblr media
The Empress represents a strong feminine power, and is associated with love, security, romance, art, and business. So, Mitsuru in a nutshell. Another great choice.
5. The Emperor - Shuji Ikutsuki
Tumblr media
The Emperor represents a male father figure, as well as authority, power, and leadership. As the overseer of SEES and most present parental figure in the game, Ikutski deserves this role. Plus, developing a relationship with Ikutski outside of his occasional background appearances will make his role in the final act of the story all the more impactful.
Sorry to all Odagiri lovers out there, I think Ikutski just works better.
6. The Hierophant - Bunkichi and Mitsuko
Tumblr media
The Hierophant represents education, marriage, guidance, and tradition. As our functional grandparents, whom have strong ties to Gekkoukan High School (a place of LEARNING), Bunkichi and Mitsuko check all the boxes for the Hierophant. Plus this whole social link is so wholesome, I could never replace them.
7. The Lovers - Yukari Takeba
Tumblr media
The Lovers represents relationships, choices, falling in love, communication, and honesty. As someone who always speaks her mind, follows her heart, and is a popular romance choice for male mc, Yukari is another great default choice. Plus, her color scheme is pink and red, she is all about that lovergirl energy.
8. The Chariot - Kazushi Miyamoto
Tumblr media
The Chariot represents overcoming conflicts, ambition, and drive, all perfectly encapsulated by Miyamoto's aspirations. As much as I love Rio, the other tarot cards give us our fill of stories about leadership and the desire for acceptance, so I think Miyamoto is the more interesting option here.
9. Justice - Ken Amada
Tumblr media
Justice represents balance, fairness, and responsibility. In the most literal sense, Ken's story is about seeking justice for the loss of his mother, and as such he's a wonderful choice for justice. The only flaw with his social link is that it includes the option to flirt with him (ew) but as long as you take that out, it's a great narrative. As much as I love Chihiro, Ken just makes the most sense here.
10. The Hermit - Saori Hasegawa
Tumblr media
The Hermit represents loneliness, meditation, and withdrawal from society. Saori's emotional distance from her other classmates, and struggles with bullying, perfectly represents both a self-induced and socially-induced isolation that is paramount to the hermit card. Plus, Saori's story gives use to the library, which is otherwise fairly underutilized in Persona 3's stories.
Though I do enjoy Maya's story and find her a pretty fascinating Hermit, I think Saori's just works a tad bit better. Plus, we once again avoid a teacher-student relationship by cutting Maya out, which is another win in my book.
11. Fortune - Ryoji Mochizuki
Tumblr media
Fortune represents change, destiny, and luck, which is perfect for one of the final characters we meet in the narrative, and whose destiny is deeply intertwined with our own. In a perfect world, I would like about half of this social link to fill up when we meet with him as Pharos, and the other half to fill during hangouts in his fully realized form.
While I will miss Keisuke, I think Ryoji is just an overall better and more interesting fit for the arcana.
12. Strength - Koromaru
Tumblr media
Strength represents confidence, courage, and vitality, and there's no one more full of life (and cuteness) than Koromaru. Plus, the willpower it takes to go on fighting after losing the closest person in your life, and also summon/fully control a persona, is nothing to scoff at.
It truly pains me to cut out Yuko here, but what can I say, Koromaru is best boy.
13. The Hanged Man - Maiko Oohashi
Tumblr media
The Hanged Man represents lack of control, letting go, or the inability to change. As a child, Maiko holds no control over her parents' looming divorce, and seeks to fight against it by running away. However, it's only a matter of time before she is forced to accept it and adapt, which is the very essence of the hanged man. A perfect choice for the tarot.
14. Death - Strega
Tumblr media
Death represents endings, morality, and letting go of earthly attachments, which is basically the recruitment statement of Strega. Each encounter with the group in story missions could fill their social link, where even if we don't necessarily feel "closer" to them, we feel as though we better understand their principles. Plus if SEES gets an arcana, I think Strega should too.
Though I'd feel bad about cutting Pharos out of his Death arcana, I'd rather he just get fortune along with Ryoji instead (see #11).
15. Temperance - Bebe (Andre Laurent Jean Geraux)
Tumblr media
Temperance represents alchemy, harmony, balance, and moderation, all the sort of things I would hope to learn in a home economics class. Bebe's presence gives purpose to the home economics area of the school, and likewise gives an interesting peak into Japan's perspective on foreigners. A well-rounded character and a fascinating person, Bebe is a great pick for Temperance.
16. The Devil - President Tanaka
Tumblr media
The Devil represents materialism, temptation, fear, and enslavement; basically all the principles seedy businessmen subscribe to. A perfect representation of the dark and superficial sides of capitalism, Tanaka was a perfect choice for the devil.
17. The Tower - Tartarus
Tumblr media
The Tower represents catastrophe, destruction, and change, all things Tartarus's very presence quite literally brings upon the world. Each ascended block in Tartarus could unlock a new level of the social link, as we learn more about the nature of the dungeon and its influence. Plus, Tartarus is quite literally a tower, it just makes sense.
Though this cuts out Mutatsu, I honestly don't find him to be a particularly important character, despite how entertaining he is.
18. The Star - Akihiko Sanada
Tumblr media
The Star represents good health, hope, and inspiration, perfect for the sporty and ever-aspirational boxer. Other star symbolism works great for Akihiko as well: he is famous throughout the school for his talent (star = famous person), and he is the first to rally his strength after loss to unlock his ultimate persona (star = guiding light).
Though Hayase has some great star symbolism as well, we already have a track club member on our tarot roster with Miyamoto. Plus, I really like the idea of every member of SEES getting a social link.
19. The Moon - Shinjiro Aragaki
Tumblr media
The Moon represents deception, fear, and unhappiness. While he isn't necessarily hiding it, Shinjiro's storyline contains a number of surprising reveals, including his connection to Ken and his ultimate fate. There is additional symbolism with Shinjiro and Akihiko representing the moon and star(s), both flourishing in darkness but taking different paths.
Plus the alternate option for the moon is Nozomi, who I actively hate. So Shinjiro absolutely gets this social link.
20. The Sun - Akinari Kamiki
Tumblr media
The sun represents enlightenment, vitality, and happiness, which is a bit ironic for a character whose health is rapidly failing. However Kamiki's wise and gentle nature, and his hope that persists despite his fate, is a great representation of the sun.
21. Judgement - Chihiro Fushimi
Tumblr media
Judgement represents awakening, decision-making, and transition, which is exactly what Chihiro's story is all about. She transitions from a shy introvert who has trouble talking to men to a confident student council treasurer. She likewise enacts "judgement" on the professor who irresponsibly handles the school funds, matching the literal definition of the card.
Judgement was previously leveled as you ascended the final floors of Tartarus, but with the dungeon assigned to the Tower card, that leaves this open for Chihiro. Which honestly, I think works way better.
22. The World - Aigis
Tumblr media
The world represents achievement, fulfillment, and when reversed, delayed success. Though the protagonist is the catalyst for most of the events of Persona 3, Aigis is the one who sees through the defeat of the shadows. Though she fails in her original encounter with death, through her support of the protagonist she is eventually successful (delayed success). Likewise, after the passing of the protagonist, Aigis is the one who takes up the reigns in The Answer, holding multiple personas and leading the charge against Erebus. Though hard fought, she also achieves her goals of respect and personhood in her eventual life as a normal schoolgirl.
The world doesn't really appear in Persona 3, but Aigis deserves it. Plus it puts a nice conclusion to my list, so there.
That's all I've got gamers. Let me know what you think :)

Be nice and respectful. Not everyone has the same headcanons.
Remember, this is mostly just for fun! We have a few submitted characters for this exact purpose, so don't take things too seriously. (It doesn't matter what the results are, most persona characters will be queer-coded in my heart)

intro ??! ˚❀༉‧₊
Hiiii!!! I’m racecarcat, if you want you call me kat for short.
Tumblr media
I just kinda wanna post stuff because I think it’d be fun. I’m unfortunately very inconsistent and everything (read: my mood) fluctuates very fast. I also, am really bad with tech, and therefore know to format nothing. Consumerism. Anyhow, here are some fandoms I’m in (or rather, have been in that if given the opportunity to talk about I can rant abt for hours):
• Jujutsu Kaisen (JJK)
• Honkai Star Rail (HSR)
• Genshin Impact (GI)
• Bungo Stray Dogs (BSD)
• Project Sekai (PJSK)
• Chainsaw Man (CSM)
• Sakamoto Days (SD)
Here are my fav characters from each, not in a specific order:
JJK: RIKO AMANAIIIII (pls someone love her as much as I do), Aoi Todo, Mai Zenin, Maki Zenin, Hiromi Higuruma, Kento Nanami, Yuki Tsukumo, Iori Utahime, Yuko Ozawa, Mei Mei and Mahito (I like them ironically I swear)
HSR: Stelle/Caelus, Jing Yuan, Welt Yang, Robin, MISHA, YUKONGG, Fu Xuan, Huohuo, Tingyun, Bailu, Ruan Mei, Jing Liu, ARGENTI, BAI HENG
GI: NAVIA, Neuvillette, FURINA, Kokomi, Shenhe, CHIORI, Jean, Lumine/Aether, GANYU, KUJOU SARA, KAVEH, Itto, Nahida, Faruzan, Yanfei
BSD: PAUL VERLAINE, Rimbaud, FUKUZAWA, SIGMA, Kunikida, Chuuya, all the flags (I LOVE STORMBRINGER), HIGUCHI, Hirotsu, ODA SAKUNOSUKE ODA SAKUNOSUKE ODA SAKUNOSUKE, H.P Lovecraft, Louisa May Alcott, EDGAR ALLEN POE, Fukuchi, TERUKO
PJSK: ENA SHINOME, Mafuyu Asahina, Ichika Hoshino, Honami Mochizuki, Minori Hanasato, Shizuoka Hinomori, KOHANE AZUSAWA
CSM: Denji, ASA MITAKAAA, Aki Hayakawa, KISHIBE, QUANXI, Angel, Kobeni, Reze, Madoka, Nomo, Santa Claus, PINGSTI, NAYUTA, Himeno
SD: Taro Sakamoto, LU XIAOTANG, OSARAGI, Shin Asakura, Nagumo, GAKU, Rion Akao, AKIRA AKAO, Natsuki Seba, Nao Toramaru, Obiguro, Heisuke, SHISHIBE, AMANE
And for funsies, here are some ships I like! Fair warning, I LOVE rarepairs and multi shipping:
JJK: Satosugu, Itafushi, NobaMaki, Hakari/Kirara, Choso/Yuki, Yuji/Yuko, MECHAMIWA, Nanami/Bakery Lady, Yuta/Maki, Yuta/Inumaki
HSR: Stelle/March 7th, Caelus/Dan Heng, Gepard/Sampo, Blade/Kafka, DAN FENG/YINGXING, Jing Yuan/Blade, Pela/Lynx, Bronya/Seele, JING LIU/BAIHENG, Himeko/Kafka, Cocolia/Serval, ASTA/ARLAN, Jing Yuan/Fu Xuan, Tingyun/Jing Yuan
GI: Jean/Diluc, Qingxiu/Chongyun, Beidou/Nigguang, Neuvillette/Focalors, Ganyu/Xiao, Lumine/Amber, Arlecchino/Columbina, Yae/Layla, truly too many to count.
BSD: Kunizai, AtsuLucy, Fyozai, FukuFuku, Shin Soukoku, RIMLAINE, Chuuya/Albatross, KuniBram, OdaAngo, Ranpoe, Shirachuu, KuniChuu, Yosano/Koyou, Kyouka/Kenji, SIGZAI etc.
PJSK: Ena/Mafuyu, Toya/Kohane, Rui/Shizuku, RuiNene
CSM: Denji/Asa, AkiAngel, Aki/Himeno, Denji/Yoshida, Violence/Kobeni, Denji/Reze, Asa/Yuko, Quanxi/her gfs
SD: None, surprisingly!
I’m probably use this blog for writing, talking about said fandoms, obsessively thinking about my ocs for each said fandom, and making very politically(/j) incorrect analysis about characters. And, more! I’m sorry this is so long, really just ask me abt anything and it’ll eventually happen.
Last thing: I might post about my own stories that are… painfully unfinished, so here’s a brief intro about each (they’re all heavily inspired by my respective fandoms, we don’t talk abt that):
*Insert Dramatic Title* (IDT): A robot by the name of Edis is asked to save humanity from a prophecy stating that, from five years from now, the world will end.
Slaughterhouse (SH): A pair of twins live in a “Haven Town” where there outside world was shrouded into an apocalypse. They learn how to truly survive in such a restrictive environment and find out the subtle corruption of their system.
‘Vest of the ‘Usual (VOU): A young boy has unusual abilities that leads him to work in the government, which depicts him having to do the unthinkable: go to school. And, do his job, that too.
Act I (A1): Olesia Lexina has had one dream all her life: protect humanity from the evil that is godlyhood! This follows her journey through the ideal of becoming on of the top members of the “Guardians of Humanity”.
Project: New World (P:NW): The government has allowed a project and organization by the name of “New World” to attempt to “purify humanity of all of its wrongdoings” and it has taken the world by storm; unfortunately, Chara has absolutely no interest in any of it.
The Eight Tragedies (T8T): An Angel has come to earth to ultimately destroy everyone on it, in which a humanities major named Reminiscence gives the world (her two friends) a chance to fix their problems before it can do so—by going into the past eight times to fix mistakes that should’ve never happened.
Majic Girl: BOOM ★ (MG:★): this one is something I’ve been meaning to get motivation to work on properly. A young freshman girl watches her whole world turn upside down (close to literally) to as some sort of eldritch horror resurfaces the earth! And she is one of the few people making the attempt to kill it.
$1 Supermarket ($1): The economy as we know it had crashed after inflation has risen way too high to the point even the upper class finds it hard to buy anything. Thus, a brand new chain store by the name of $1 Supermarket has arisen! Where everything is exactly $1! And there’s like, a bunch of monsters everywhere, but that’s besides the point.
Okay, that’s it now I promise. Thank you for reading this far!

Kyoko Kagawa in Sansho the Bailiff (Kenji Mizoguchi, 1954)
Cast: Kinuyo Tanaka, Yoshiaki Haniyagi, Kyoko Kagawa, Eitaro Shindo, Akitake Kono, Masao Shimizu, Ken Mitsuda. Screenplay: Fuji Yahiro, Yoshikata Yoda, based on a story by Ogai Mori. Cinematography: Kazuo Miyagawa. Production design: Hisakazu Tsuji. Film editing: Mitsuzo Miyata. Music: Fumio Hayasaka, Kinshichi Kodera, Tamekichi Mochizuki.
It's rare to see a film whose title character is the villain -- unless you count monster movies like the many versions of Dracula -- but Sansho (Eitaro Shindo) is decidedly that, the slave-driving administrator of a medieval Japanese manor. (It's as if Uncle Tom's Cabin had been called Simon Legree.) But in fact, Sansho serves as a catalyst for the story that centers on an aristocratic family. The father displeases his feudal lord by being too merciful to the people he governs, so he's banished to a distant province while his wife, Tamaki (Kinuyo Tanaka), and their children, Zushio and Anju, remain behind with her brother until the children are old enough to make the dangerous cross-country journey. But when they set out, they are betrayed and sold into slavery. Tamaki is forced into prostitution and separated from the children, who grow up as slaves on the estate administered by Sansho. One day, Anju (Kyoko Kagawa) hears a new slave, brought from the island of Sado, singing a song about a woman who mourns the loss of her children named Zushio and Anju, and learns that her mother is still alive. Meanwhile, Zushio (Yoshiaki Hanayagi) has decided that the best way to survive in slavery is to go along with Sansho's demands, which include punishing an elderly slave by branding him on the forehead. Anju is appalled by what her brother has become, because he has turned against the principles of mercy and human equality that their father taught them, but when the opportunity to escape presents itself, she persuades him to do so. Staying behind, and facing the wrath of Sansho, she drowns herself. Eventually, Zushio wreaks revenge on Sansho and liberates the slaves, then goes in search of his mother. This reworking of an ancient fable is one of the most miraculous of films, an exquisitely photographed (by Kazuo Miyagawa), designed (by Hisakazu Tsuji), and acted work, radiating Mizoguchi's deep human sympathy. Tanaka, who starred in Ugetsu (1953) and The Life of Oharu (1952), the other two films usually ranked alongside Sansho the Bailiff as Mizoguchi's greatest works, has a smaller role than in the others, but her final scene in this film is one of the most heart-breaking performances in all movies.

Summer Reading 2023: July
A quick summary of what I was able to read in July!
Finished:
A Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
The last one! I liked that in this collection we're back to cases that don't necessarily involve murder ^^ It also features the moment between Sherlock and Watson (as well as one of Sherlock's most savage replies to Watson's attempt at reasoning, to balance things up xD). And I was really happy to realize what was going on in Thor Bridge and Lion's Mane quicker than Sherlock did, lol :D
The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz
(The "official" Sherlock Holmes novel penned by a different author)
It. Was. Amazing!!! The prose truly felt as if it was written by Doctor Watson, long into his retirement. The story is a tangled one, involving not just one but two cases, many lies, much cruelty, a huge scandal and conspiracy, elusive foes... and equally elusive temporary allies :D I loved it! It can be easily incorporated into the canon.
The Three Monarchs by Anthony Horowitz
(The "official" short Sherlock Holmes story penned by a different author)
I'd say it's nothing very remarkable, but it's just like canon short stories and it reminded me of the one with plaster busts, but the resolution was completely different :) so it was an okay read.
Prelude to Foundation by Isaac Asimov
Got it as a graduation present from my lab - and finally had the time to read it :) I loved it, it was an easy to read and compelling story with twists that I didn't even anticipate. I'd like to read the other books in the series too!
The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo
After watching the TV series a few years ago, I wanted to read the original novel. Finally I did! The plot and characters were quite different from the drama ones, but both versions worked for me. The book is much slower and focuses more on the heroine herself, as well as the detailed descriptions of both the real world and the afterlife. And Erlang was a fantastic character in the book ^^
Sachiiro no One Room by Hakuri
The last volume of the manga made me cry uncontrollably for quite some time... (and this reaction of mine scared me a little, ngl :)) Wow, what a journey it was. Read it if you can stomach stories about child abuse.
The Summer Hikaru Died vol. 1-2 by Mokumokuren
It's a slice-of-life horror BL manga. Not mu usual go-to genres :D so I did not really plan to read this series... but I checked out a few chapters and decided to give it a chance, since I wasn't that much scared by the horror part. Indeed, so far it's been a really interesting, slightly spooky story! But apparently there's a lot of it still ahead of us.
Moriarty the Patriot vol. 15 by Ryosuke Takeuchi & Hikaru Miyoshi
This volume begins telling the story of what happened after the Moriarty Plan had been realized. I'm re-reading the whole series (this time in my native tongue) but I'm still as emotional about certain scenes as I was when seeing them for the first time :')
BSD vol. 23 by Kafka Asagiri & Sango Harukawa
The battles between Kenji and Tecchou as well as Fukuchi and Fukuzawa (and their backstory!), Aya and Bram's attempts of escape, the Mersault Game (famous chapter 101)... I loved it ^^
The extra chapters of MDZS by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu
I read them all except for the incense burner one (I don't need... this, lol). I rather liked most of them, especially the investigative ones ^^
Half-Way There:
Aoharu x Machinegun by NAOE
I read up till the first round of the TGC, so just a few more volumes to go ^^
The Apothecary Diaries by Natsu Hyuuga, Nekokurage, Itsuki Nanao
I caught up with the first seven volumes. I love this manga so much! A historical slice-of-life/investigative series with two unhinged (in different ways) main characters :D
Just started:
Death Note and Spy x Family :)
Up-to-Date With:
The Snake and the Crane
Lore Olympus
Return of the Mad Demon
Holmes of Kyoto by Mai Mochizuki & Ichiha Akizuki (up to chapter 48) I'm in love with this series! A modern slice-of-life with art and antiques and some investigations ^^ I hope the manga goes on, if not, I've gotta invest myself into light novels.... :)
