Katniss didn't settle for Peeta, she didn't say well this is as good as it gets...no she actively chose Peeta every single time. She knew him intimately when she described him with swoon-worthy words:
You're a painter. You're a baker. You like to sleep with the windows open. You never take sugar in your tea. And you always double-knot your shoelaces.
She always thought of him...chose him:
When he was reaped she expressed immediate remorse "Oh no not him, not the boy with the bread."
When he was reaped in The Hunger Games: "To this day, I can never shake the connection between this boy, Peeta Mellark, and the bread that gave me hope, and the dandelion that reminded me that I was not doomed."
In the Arena, the Hunger Games: “The idea of actually losing Peeta hit me again and I realized how much I don’t want him to die. And it’s not about the sponsors. And it’s not about what will happen back home. And it’s not just that I don’t want to be alone. It’s him. I do not want to lose the boy with the bread.”
To Haymitch in Catching Fire: ″‘Like you said, it’s going to be bad no matter how you slice it. And whatever Peeta wants, it’s his turn to be saved. We both owe him that.’ My voice takes on a pleading tone. ‘Besides, the Capitol hates me so much, I’m as good as dead now. He still might have a chance.‘” (Katniss was ready to die for him and is begging Haymitch to die for him too)
In Catching Fire the Arena: I realize only one person will be damaged beyond repair if Peeta dies. Me. "I do", I say. "I need you."
In District 13 in Mockingjay: I drink in his wholeness, the soundness of his body and mind. It runs through me like the morphling they give me in the hospital, dulling the pain of the last weeks.
In District 13 in Mockingjay, she is deeply depressed without him. She is suffering from PTSD and doesn't have her support system there. She misses Peeta. Katniss pines for him - keeps the pearl he gave her nearby...
"Sometimes when I’m alone, I take the pearl from where it lives in my pocket and try to remember the boy with the bread, the strong arms that warded off nightmares on the train, the kisses in the arena."
"My mockingjay pin now lives with Cinna’s outfit, but there’s the gold locket and the silver parachute with the spile and Peeta’s pearl. I knot the pearl into the corner of the parachute, bury it deep in the recesses of the bag, as if it’s Peeta’s life and no one can take it away as long as I guard it."
By the end of the book, after watching her sister die, and having shot Coin - Katniss loses it...and she becomes almost catatonic. Katniss blocks out everything when she comes back to District Twelve in Mockingjay:
"I haven’t left the house. I haven’t even left the kitchen except to go to the small bathroom a few steps off of it. I’m in the same clothes I left the Capitol in."
She cares for nothing and is forced to eat it's only when Peeta comes back that she becomes aware of her appearance and it's when she literally begins to live:
"When I see him, I pull up short. His face is flushed from digging up the ground under the windows. In a wheelbarrow are five scraggly bushes. “You’re back,” I say. “Dr. Aurelius wouldn’t let me leave the Capitol until yesterday,” Peeta says. “By the way, he said to tell you he can’t keep pretending he’s treating you forever. You have to pick up the phone.” He looks well. Thin and covered with burn scars like me, but his eyes have lost that clouded, tortured look. He’s frowning slightly, though, as he takes me in. I make a halfhearted effort to push my hair out of my eyes and realize it’s matted into clumps." ...-... "Back upstairs, I throw open the bedroom windows to clear out the rest of Snow’s stench. But it still lingers, on my clothes and in my pores. I strip, and flakes of skin the size of playing cards cling to the garments. Avoiding the mirror, I step into the shower and scrub the roses from my hair, my body, my mouth. Bright pink and tingling, I find something clean to wear. It takes half an hour to comb out my hair. Greasy Sae unlocks the front door. While she makes breakfast, I feed the clothes I had shed to the fire. At her suggestion, I pare off my nails with a knife."
Katniss chose to be with Peeta, just like she chose to live when he came back...

Here's a story in the world of The Hunger Games that I want to hear: who told Finnick president Snow's secret, how did they know it, why did they end up sharing that with Finnick (did they hate Snow or were they just that horny or what?)???

also i’ve posted about this before but one of my favorite lines and scenes in mockingjay is the “the only person i want is haymitch because he loves peeta too” and it’s important that she ASKS for haymitch, that he offers her the only thing he can which is to say “i know,” that he sits with her for as long as she needs, that she overhears him saying she ‘figured out they were using peeta’ implying that everyone knew but her. so having him come up to her and say “it’s okay kid” and then immediately cutting from that scene is like. going completely against what makes their relationship effective and powerful and why haymitch MATTERS.
you could basically cut haymitch from the films and it would barely make a difference. he just shows up and gives some exposition and leaves. he never offers katniss any emotional support, he never demonstrates that he’s a rebel or that he even cares about anything beyond himself, he never shows that he understands things the same way katniss does and that they can communicate without speaking because of how alike they are. he doesn’t do any of that. they gutted every character in the movies but tbh haymitch might be the worst offense of them all

Plutarch heavensbee woke up one morning in d13 and was like "I'm the most fuckable person in this bunker city" and he was ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ✅
He was RIGHT!!! Even in those ugly sneakers they all wear. He was so pale the gray jumpsuit complemented him tbh he was born to serve in that claustrophobic nightmare district!
Also it’s been a while since I’ve posted for fancam Friday so despite this being all Catching Fire clips it feels relevant <3

How did the tragic death of Philip Seymour Hoffman alter the Hunger Games franchise?
Nina Jacobson: I've never had an actor die during the making of a movie before. All of the cast and crew were drawn together by the sorrow and shock of losing someone so close to us so suddenly. Practically, Phil had shot about 80% of his scenes. What we had to do with the remaining 20% was to give two key scenes to Liz Banks and Woody Harrelson. In MJ1, Effie gives Katniss Cinna's design for the mockingly uniform instead of Plutarch, as was originally scripted. In MJ2, Haymitch reads a letter in a scene that, in the book and the original script, takes places between Katniss and Plutarch. Without a doubt, Phil would be a bigger presence in the movie if he had stayed with us. I miss him at many levels.
Been sitting with this little factoid for a few days now and I'm still not over the information that the deeply annoying scene of Effie giving Katniss Cinna's book was originally a Plutarch scene. It never made sense in the movie, and we finally know as to why it's so awkward.
That said, also deeply saddened that there is now a second major scene he had not filmed :(

*TBOSAS SPOILER*i’m so obsessed with tbosas ending where the badass music is playing (the same music from mj1 ending) and the closeup of snow’s face looking at the rainbow on the skirt of the statue (lucy gray haunting him) and the black screen and future president snow saying it’s the things we love most that destroy us and then the majestic music and the tbosas logo IT’S JUST SUCH A MASTERPIECE.

About skateboarding
Since I'm bored out of my skull I thought I would talk about one of my other interests: skateboarding
Deck size: 8.125
Wheel size: 52mm
Trucks: Thunder
Favorite deck brand: Either Krooked or BBS Alien Workshop. Actually any deck brand made by BBS. If we're going with strictly aesthetics and graphics, then Magenta.
Least Favorite: Any brand made with Clutch wood. Those nose and tails are way to steep
Best trick: Frontside flip or frontside 360
Trick I want to learn: Overcoming my psychological barrier of switch ollieing up curbs. Other than that I would like to learn smith grinds
Advice on tricks: For frontside 360s, the key is to use the upper part of your body to complete the first 180, and then use your legs and bottom half to force the last 180. Learning how to do late 180s are extremely helpful.
Favorite skate video: 3 way tie between Tilt Mode Army "Man Down", PJ Ladd's Wonderful Horrible Life and Girl/Chocolate "Yeah Right"
Favortie Skaters: Mark Appleyard, Heath Kirchart, Rick McCrank, John Rattray, Gustav Tonnesen, Mark Suciu
Favorite Shoe brand: Hmm that's a tough one, but New Balance has consistently lives up to my expectations. More niche, I'm a sucker for DC, Kalis models always deliver. Anyone that makes a good cupsole and not focused on vulc (*cough* Vans *cough*).
Gear you would love to own: Enjoi with the Butterfly Lite concave, Lakai Howard 2, Lakai MJ1, Tum Yeto era Zero and Foundation, OG eS Accel Plus

Oh God lol do NOT even get me started on the "real or not real" scene...I say as I come into your inbox and assuredly get started on the "real or not real" scene PFFFF. Like, hi hello I'm an old THG vet and have sidestepped two fandoms away at this point, and yet this STILL drives me bonkers bananas every time I consider it.
It makes me so mad for a few reasons here.
Francis did not shy away from showing Katniss' feelings towards Peeta in the previous movies. Hell, he even went OUT OF HIS WAY to show them, as he gave us additional content in Mockingjay Part 1. He gave us kisses, and a dream sequence, and Katniss' depression and devastation as she saw him crumbling away ((not to mention the infamous "i love...you...pee...ta" thing in catching fire right before she passes out on the hovercraft even though that one's up for debate and could have entirely just been an acting choice from jen or just wishful thinking from us but still lol like HELLO???)).
Along those lines, if we already got confirmation that Katniss loved him, and got to see that on the screen, then why?? Was it denied from us??? In the final movie???? In the movie where it realistically needed to come to a head????? In the movie where it was the LAST opportunity to portray it for audiences???????
I recall there being some sort of commentary from Nina or Francis or SOMEONE where they were saying that they couldn't have a love scene because it was a "war movie." And like...That is some shaky ass logic if that was the case. Because uhhhhh one of the biggest themes in the entirety of the series is HOPE? That uhhhhhh idk LIFE CAN BE GOOD AGAIN??? You know, just one of the largest lines at the end of the very book itself jsdkls. Like yes, Mockingjay was centered on fighting and war, but then it ended with gentleness. It ended with Suzanne showing how life continues on, and how goodness and peace can still be found after so much pain and suffering. Soooo to be like "lol we can't even show a kiss between our two leads because bang boom pow war movie" is just so??? Backwards?????
Alsooooo they can show Katniss and Peeta with kids but can't show them being in love? Because THAT makes sense lol. Because THAT won't be a jarring transition for general audiences at all. Because THAT won't further the whole argument that "Peeta forced Katniss into motherhood." Since they went from just a dry ass little cuddle in bed that almost seemed to be a regression from their Catching Fire cuddles and their dream cuddle in MJ1 to suddenly having a family. Like mMMMmMMMMM alrighty.
...Lol me honking my clown nose over my previous statement of "not getting started" BUT LIKE...YOU FEEL ME LMAO. YOU UNDERSTAND.
It's just something that will haunt me no matter how many other fandoms I cartwheel through.
YES, GO OFF! I am here for it and agree 100%.
I haven't really gone back to the movies after watching them in the theater until recently and I was just so underwhelmed with Everlark in general in the movies, though I agree I think in MJ part 1 they were doing more heavy lifting with the dream sequence and Josh and Jen's acting (but if I counted right, we only got four Everlark kisses in the whole franchise. FOUR, and only one was really romantic (the sewer one was more heart-wrenching and desperate)). I hadn't watched the movies all in succession until just recently, but for me that aspect was a big ol' flop. I honestly don't know how people who hadn't read the books ever shipped Everlark from the movies. I watched with my brother (who only read book 1 like 15 years ago) and he kept calling Gale Katniss's "boyfriend" and I was like NOOOO STOPPPP THIS IS AN EVERLARK HOUSEHOLD.
But you would think they would want to show Katniss and Peeta really did fall in love, and not just platonic love like so many people accuse it of being, but actual romantic and sexual love. Instead they just cuddle??? Like don't get me wrong, I love all Everlark cuddles but it's not enough to stop there--it's where they were at in CF. And if they didn't want a sex scene (even a PG-13 one) it's like, okay, whatever, I disagree, but not everyone does read "so after" as a sex scene so I could deal with a tamer interpretation. But no kiss???? No passion???? When Katniss tells us the exact opposite in the book??? Katniss is just supposed to be this like, numb person just wanting to absorb heat off of Peeta and treat him like a pillow??? No sir. No. We need that HUNGER Katniss felt for Peeta to be showing up.
I think what pissed me off, too, is that they really upped Gale in the franchise imo, especially CF. Katniss gave him three kisses in the CF movie, and one of them (before she goes off to the Quarter Quell) was not in the book. So it's okay for Katniss to kiss Gale before she goes off to her death, when she's trying to tie up her life in D12 and a rebellion is about to begin, but it's too unfathomable for Katniss to even kiss Peeta after the war when they're safe and she's able to focus on building the remainder of her life with the man she's chosen to be with, the man she loves???? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FRANCIS.
AND LAST THING kind of tying into the Gale/Peeta contrast. I feel like the movies still viewed Gale as the traditional romantic lead--very manly and heroic in a traditional way, so he gets kissed without cameras around, like Katniss really wanted him physically, and only because of the Prim thing was he rejected. Whereas Peeta, who is pretty revolutionary in being a kind, warm romantic lead in an action/war franchise, was treated like some neutered dog. Good for cuddles but not passion, like a "smart" decision or a "well I'll take it" instead of the conclusion that book Katniss comes to, which is that she feels warmth and hunger and passion for him BECAUSE he is also safety and hope, and that is incredibly sexy.

how long have you been an everlark fan? i feel like I only came to see you recently! 💙 love having you here in the fandom
I think I said this in a reply recently, here we go again.
I've been in the fandom since around 2011. I read the books that year and started reading fanfics on Fanfiction.net because I couldn't get out of the hyper fixation. I've had Tumblr for about as long, but I wasn't actively posting until 2013, mainly due to the fact that I'm not a native speaker of English and I wasn't confident to post in it yet.
I was also in several online communities of my native language, which have all sadly died away by now, but I made some long-lasting friends there. And shoutout to my Brazilian Joshifer group chat friends! I had a great few years talking to them and went to the LA premiere of MJ1 with some of them. I was also in a role-play group chat from 2012 to 2013, where I played Peeta because we had no guys who would play Peeta. Lol. I also went to the NYC exhibit with my role-play partner who played Katniss. Great memories.
Anyway, I've been lurking on Tumblr for about a dozen years and was more active in smaller groups. I was mostly reposting during the prime years of the fandom and only spoke up when there were active fandom wars. (I've always been a gossip, I can't help it.) Now that we don't have as many people in the fandom and I'm more confident when it comes to my language and opinions, I'm more outspoken. That's probably why you guys never noticed me til now.

Can I just defend Peeta: When Peeta call's Katniss Pure she takes ofense. What Peeta was wisley stating, is that Katniss is innocent. She wasn't cynical or jaded. She wasn't aware of how amazing she was. Katniss didn't understand the effect she had in the lives of people. Katniss was so innocent she mistook what he meant by Pure!

If we ever get another Hunger Games movie, I think it should be Haymitch's story.
Because we got a taste of it in the books, but understandably there wasn't time to fully adapt that.
And unlike Finnick, whose story was narrated in MJ1, moviegoers never got to experience the story: Maysilee, the forcefield and so on. You only know his backstory if you go to the books.
Also we could have more Effie and the producers know that the audience wants Effie
I don't think we'll get more Snow backstory because ultimately it IS a YA franchise. And his rise to power teeters on NSFW. Like yeah a YA book can mention that Capitol citizens are debauched but that's different to depicting it.

i think peetas words about the cease fire get often misconstrued by peeta fans and critics alike. he’s a prisoner of the capitol. in the book (and the film……) it’s pretty clearly established that he said it because he’s being manipulated by the capitol — it’s a direct reflection of how katniss is being manipulated by 13 to say things she may not believe because she’s being told it will help peeta. they’re doing the same thing on different sides of the war because they ultimately just want to keep each other alive BECAUSE THATS WHAT THEY DO. KEEP EACH OTHER ALIVE.

@curiousnonny
so I have to be honest, I haven't watched the movies in a really long time, years!!!!
THG - 3 Things I like: I think it was a good adaptation Things I don't like: that Peeta didn't lose his leg and we didn't get to see Katniss losing his mind when she thinks they're killing Peeta, that we didn't get to see Madge
CF - 5 Things I like: I think this was the beast adaption of the four movies, I love their clothes they use for the tributes parade, the I need you scene/kiss, the cast for Finnick and Johanna Things I don't like: that we didn't get to see when the tree of them train for the quarter quell and more about the victory tour
MJ1 - 3 Things I like: that bonus scene where Katniss dreams about Peeta coming to her when she's having bad dreams, the choking scene was so good!!!! Things I don't like: I can't think of anything lol!
MJ2 - 3 Things I like: when Peeta returns to D12 Things I don't like: that we only got one freaking kiss!!!

How about Mockingjay movies?
Do you like it? Don't like it?
Do you think the split to become 2 movies was necessary?
Thank you :)
oh well. Do i like MJ1 and MJ2? the answer is yes and no. it’s like a double-edged sword buried deep in my heart. I really like some parts, and I really dislike the others.
I remember vividly how everyone was arguing about the split back in 2013/2014. But it’s not the split that’s bothering me. They could have made one good film out of one book. They also could have made two good films out of one book. Instead, they made two good films which are not exactly about the message written in the book.
And i’m not talking about minor and/or major changes that are inevitable when you’re writing a screenplay based on the book. these are two different mediums with certain rules and all that, I do not want to go into that territory.
It’s the whole narrative shift that bugs me to this day. And I’m wondering, was that shift required for the films to be released? because if it was, then anything I might have to say doesn’t matter. it’s almost unfair of me to discuss what could have been when I don’t see the whole picture.
The locations are so unique, though. And I remember they’ve used like 500 shipping containers to build a whole Capitol street in the City Circle. I mean.
Tumblr media
The amount of work on the production is just astonishing.
But I have one more thing to say. The final scene in the golden meadow… it’s nice. the kids are absolute cuties. it’ so sweet and calm. but it’s from another story. for me, that weren’t Katniss and Peeta and their kids (that don’t know they play on a graveyard).
The way that scene was directed (the costumes, the setting, the choice of the color scheme, the way characters are situated on the screen) makes no sense to me personally. So, so confusing.
I have so many complicated feelings about these two movies, that's for sure.
