MISIAのEverythingのPVについて
2000年10月25日にリリースのMISIAのEverythingという曲。かなり有名ですね。
youtube

More mainstream pop artists took a switch to R&B during this time including the now retired singer and dancer, Namie Amuro. After much criticism for dabbling in R&B in the 90s, songs from her Style, Queen to Hip-Pop and PLAY albums started gaining interest; notably Put ‘Em Up, So Crazy, Girl Talk, HELLO and Pink Key. Along with Amuro, ero-kawaii artist Koda Kumi became a trendsetter after her Best~First Things~ got popular. She had R&B tracks that heightened like 秘密 (Secret), this is not a love song and No Way from some of her best albums, Kingdom, TRICK and UNIVERSE. The versatility in J-R&B songs showcased to many in the industry that it was impactful  and interest from artists such as Ishida Yuko’s Missin’ U,  SATOMI’s Baby Doll, MISIA’s ANY LOVE, YA-KYIM’s someday, Leah Dizon’s Softly, May J.’s Why Why Why and Yuna Ito’s Losin in the mid  2000’s to early 2010s. Even R&B was pouring into idol songs like Morning Musume’s Do It Now and Goto Maki’s Tear Drops. Along with these tracks, there were many other standout albums that were heavily influenced such as Hiromi’s Rainbow, Kato Miliyah’s Heaven, AI’s The Last Ai, Jasmine’s Gold, LISA’s Gratitude, BENI’s Jewel and Thelma Aoyama’s Diary.

Interview with DECORATED YOUTH
January 26 2022
🕯️
Unlike most J-Pop female idol groups, ATARASHII GAKKO! staunchly refuse to be objectified, they wear sailor-fuku (sailor suits) uniforms in a style that were worn by Japanese students back in the 70s and 80s which feature long skirts and pulled-up socks. While musically AG! merges elements of modern J-Pop, Showa-era kayokyoku, rap, punk, and dance music, they also choreograph their own aggressive and expressive dance moves, which are a hybrid of the energy of Japanese butoh dance, heavy metal headbanging, and hip-hop street dancing. If it sounds impossible to categorize them in any genre, that’s because it is, and it’s meant to be that way. With Money Mark acting as their mentor and coach, AG! took control of their creative output and artistic identity and created the brilliance that is The SNACKTIME EP

HI! So, these past 20 months have been pretty intense due to various reasons including the pandemic… Before we began, how are you doing with everything? How has this last year been for you and how are you feeling? How have you been coping with everything?
SUZUKA: It’s been an opportunity to reflect, to search within and realize what my goals are and what makes me tick! This journey of reflection was quite exciting, very inspiring times!
KANON: A lot of things went under drastic changes and there were hesitations and struggles for sure, but it opened up some quality time to get to know myself on a deeper level, which was a positive aspect.
MIZYU: Going on stage was our core venture, we lived for it. So, when that came to a halt, keeping our social media up and live became crucially important! We posted new clips from our past performances, published our liner notes, or produced merch for our online audience, making sure that there was always fresh content for our fans online. I think this contributed to expanding our reach to listeners out there beyond the physical stage!
RIN: The situation led us to earnestly think about the message we truly want to convey, and also on a personal note, to realize my sincere aspirations and devotions. We ventured into ground breaking activities during this period, so the pandemic was definitely a turning point for me and also feels like the dawning of a new chapter for us.
🕯️
Going back to the beginning. Where did you grow up and what was your childhood like growing up there? Did creativity/music/art play a big part of your childhood?
S: My mom is a huge Beyoncé fan so I’ve been dancing to her tracks since I was in diapers. Seeing how much I loved dancing, my mom signed me up for dance classes and that’s how I got into the entertainment industry as a performer. I really loved being on since stage since those early years.
K: I did so many after school activities growing up but none of them stuck until I encountered dance. I was really fascinated by it, so dancing became a huge part of my daily life back then. I was dancing all the time. Because I grew up in the country side, my days were quite simple just consisting of the back and forth between my home, school, and the dance studio.
M: I was born and raised in Tokyo. I loved to get up and dance whenever there was music playing, and started taking dance classes when I was in second grade. Music and dance were always there throughout my childhood days, and I loved it.
R: My dad is a hip-hop fan so perhaps I was listening to hip-hop music ever since I was in my mom’s womb. Of all the experiences I had since I started dancing and competing in dance tournaments, there is this inspiring quote from my favorite teacher who told me ‘don’t forget your love of music when you’re dancing’. From that moment on, I am ever so captivated by the elation when the body links with music through dancing.
🕯️
When you were old enough to start seeking out music, where did you regularly find yourself (a certain record store / internet site / getting recommendations from a certain friend)? Who were some of the artists you first found and then were always on the lookout for?
S: I seek out new things on Spotify but I also love discovering music from my friends and family. Money Mark also shared with us some of his favorites, I saved them all and listen back to them. My favorite artist: Beyoncé
K: My older sister’s music library was a big influence when I was growing up. My favorite artist: Koda Kumi.
M: Kyary Pamyu Pamyu was my first favorite artist and I started exploring from there. I was also intrigued by how artists artistically express their sounds through music videos and live performances, it was so exciting to see.
R: I would rummage through my dad’s cd collection, or share discoveries with friends, or Shazam something playing that caught my ear. I am amazed how music is everywhere, all around the world. And there’s music I wouldn’t encounter in my bubble, so when I met Money Mark he taught me so many new things it’s been lots of new discoveries. My favorite artist: EVISBEATS
🕯️
Talk some more about your formative years… What was the very first concert you attended? When was the first time you felt super inspired by music? Were there posers on your wall when you were growing up?
S: A concert from Lady Gaga: she came out on stage and performed in a transparent dress with taped nipples, that left an extremely powerful impression on me.
K: When I went to see Koda Kumi: there was an enormous stage with a fountain, the way she switched between costumes was like magic, and I felt like I was in a dream!
M: I have always been in love with the creations around Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. It’s cute and eerie and so exciting. I had her CDs and DVDs from concerts, her photo books with her cool styling and never missed a post on her gram!
R: The first concert I attended was by MISIA: I was really young but remember being blown away by her powerful vocals, stage presence and her aura! The moment I was super inspired by music was when my dance teacher made a remix track just for me. It was filled with the nitty-gritty of all the things I loved, and I just had to move!
🕯️
What was your mindset going into the creating / recording process of this EP? Did you feel any sort of limitations when writing or recording it? Which songs were the easiest / most difficult to create? What song(s) are you most proud of on this record? Why?
**We wanted to create something really mind blowing. There was no pressure to be felt, just pure excitement! Fantastico came out quite quickly, and producing Pineapple Kryptonite was like putting together pieces of a puzzle.
S: I am especially fond of CANDY, I can’t wait to perform this in front of a crowd and make them go wild.
M: All of the tracks are dear to my heart, but because Pineapple Kryptonite was the first song that we completed, it’s especially moving to perform it on stage, every time I get that fuzzy feeling. It’s something indescribable and profound. Makes me very proud
🕯️
When and how did the EP title SNACKTIME come about in the album creation process? What is the significance of the title?
**The title was decided after we got back to Japan from LA. In LA we were cramped in the recording room and working on the tracks every day, so our snack times where we would leave the room for a break and eat snacks to refresh, then pitch new ideas to each other, was really essential for the progress of our work. That’s how our EP came to be, owing it to our snack time

Top 10 Video Games of All Time: bobgoesw00t Edition
OK, I’m officially gonna start listing my Top 10 Video Games of All Time now and I’m starting off with the only game from my original Top 5 that has survived the cut: Star Ocean Till the End of Time
Tumblr media
Now I should mention something real quickly and it’s the following: I’ve played this game MULTIPLE TIMES, cleared the story at least 3-4 times, and only one of those clears was done without the use of an Action Replay… I know that’s rather sad but the first time I got to the Moon Base, without using it, that god damn Reclaimer FUCKED ME UP SO HARD that I ended up resorting to using the, “Max EXP” cheat on the entire party.
When they released the HD Remaster of the game on the PS4, I knew that I would have to play smarter (no Action Replay will do that to you), once I got that far and I was actually able to beat her on the first try somehow…I think. ANYWAYS, what I’m trying to say is that this game is one of my three favorite JRPGs from the PS2 (one of those is in my Top 5 right now) and no matter how many times I boot the game up and start from the beginning I have a blast. The story is awesome, the graphics hold up surprisingly well in the HD Remaster (at least IMO), combat is fun and challenging at times, and the cast of characters is phenomenal (hell, my top Star Ocean OTP is from this game and they are SO CUTE AND FLUFFY AO;SDGHASOLGJAPO;STGIJLAGPO…it’s Fayt x Albel/FayBel in case your wondering). I even think the big plot twist is awesome, given how it re-frames the ENTIRE series, even with the games that got released after it. I know one of the people who work on the series said that The Last Hope takes place in an alternate timeline, but I call bullshit on that.
That’s cause if we factor in the information that the Universe as Edge and the party know it is actually a giant MMOesque creation, we can come to the logical conclusion that the Missing Procedure is a bug or virus of some kind in the Eternal Sphere that had the potential to crash the entire system. As for the impact it has on Integrity and Faithlessness, along with The Divine Force, that is a conversation for another day.
I also like how in order to get enough Battle Trophies to unlock all of the bonus content, you actually have to play through the story multiple times with different party configurations when it comes to the optional characters. You’ve got Nel, Rodger, Albel and Peppita and which ever characters you don’t pick end up becoming bosses in the Urssa Cave Temple, and you get Battle Trophies for defeating the different configurations.
I only really have two complaints to talk about but both are pretty minor for me. The first one is the lack of a “Synopsis” section in the Info part of the Camp Menu, someplace where you can look up what’s happened so far and easily figure out where to go next. If youre like me and you’ve taken a long break from the story, chances are you won’t remember what the current objective is the only way to figure that out is to run around like a chicken with your head cut off hoping for a cutscene to trigger…which sometimes can lead into a Boss Fight that you might be under prepared for. Thankfully they added that into the next game and this is no longer an issue but it’s still a pain in the ass to have this happen.
The other complaint is the MASSIVE difficulty spike at some points in the game. The only places I can think of when this happens is when you stop the Vendeeni from getting the Sacred Orb, the start of the second disc (or the equivilant part in the HD Remaster), and when you reach a certain level in the post-game part of Sphere 211. If you have any party members that are under-leveled, the enemies here will FUCK THEM UP. But even with properly leveled characters, one wrong move will wipe them from the battle.
And that’s all I have for gripes with this game, nothing really game breaking, and once you get a grip on the tougher enemies in the main story, it becomes a breeze to get past them and move on with the plot. Great gameplay, good cast of characters, music by the BADASS Motoi Sakuraba and a theme song from the Japanese Artist renown not just for being the first J-R&B star, but also sung the Japanese National Anthem at the Tokyo Games Opening Ceremony, MISIA. Her song, “A Little Bird Who Forgot How to Fly” is GORGEOUS and I almost ball my eyes out during the ending credits every time when it starts playing.
SO for my score of Star Ocean Till the End of Time, I’m going to follow in the steps of X-Play, use their scoring system and give this JRPG a 5/5.
Lastly for my Honorable Mentions today, I’m highlighting:
Forza Horizon 3 - the racing game that got my into not only the Forza franchise in general, but also introduced me to the music of CHVRCHΞS. Even the the next Horizon game wasn’t able to top this one for me, no matter how good it was.
Tales of Xillia/Xillia 2 - I’m doing a two for one deal this time only cause I feel like you can’t talk about one game without mentioning the other. Both games are awesome, both have their merits and flaws (not many of them to be honest though) and both have my favorite theme songs in the franchise from the Queen of J-Pop, Ayumi Hamasaki.
I’ll be giving more a in-depth reviews of these games sometime next year so that’s all for today! Keep your eyes peeled for when I post the next entry in this series and I hope you all continue to have a wonderful holiday season.

Throwback Thursday Track #2: MISIA - Everything release: October 2000 genre: Jpop, J-R&B
Remember when I started this serial way back in the middle of last summer and then immediately dropped the ball on doing it ever again because Thursdays are actually really horrible? No? Yeah, it's fine. But since I'm trying to be better about these things ... jumping back into the wayback machine to the year 2000!
I have no idea what happened to the master that this janky rip off of a VHS copy is the best the official account could do, but here we are. I am ... mostly sure this was not my first time hearing MISIA, but seeing as I've been listening to her for over twenty years oh my god, don't ask me to tell you when I started. I can't even remember how, because let me tell you, kids, the internet was a very different place back then and if you wanted to listen to Japanese music, you had to Go Through Hoops, to put it mildly. And while her music is and was exactly up my alley, she didn't really do the music show circuit even when she first debuted, so all I can think is some sort of happy accident? Whatever the case, this was certainly one of my earliest exposures to MISIA's angelic voice. At seven minutes, "Everything" is about twice as long as the usual pop radio hit song. Moreover, between the opening strains in full orchestra and the wistful tone to MISIA's voice throughout, "Everything" feels much more like something you would find on a drama OST than in a karaoke box or on pop radio. Which didn't stop it from debuting at the top of the Oricon chart nor keep the single from racking up enough sales to make it the all-time third top selling single by a female Japanese artist and MISIA's signature song, despite not actually showing off her full vocal range (5 octaves!) The video has a very Christmas-in-Japan feel going for it, between the snow and the love song lyrics. It's not the most dynamic video, the story parts all shot for slow motion and then MISIA herself delivering her performance with minimal movement, but that, too, fits the mood of the song. It's also an older style of making a music video - the solo diva delivering a song while mostly just standing in place - that MISIA's always favored for herself. "Everything" was the second single off her third studio album, Marvelous, and has been included in each of her best of collections since, so your favorite streaming service should have at least one version of it. Last month (February 21st, to be exact) marked MISIA's 25th anniversary of her debut, so if you liked this, there's a lot more out there. Want to sponsor a song selection? You sweet angel! For the low, low price of one (1) KoFi, I'll write up the song of your choice. ANY song of your choice. Yes, even that one that's been played to death. Yes, your obscure faves too. Sponsor a current CB for the next open Music Monday slot or sponsor a throwback for a Thursday feature! DW | Twitter | Mastodon | Ko-fi | Patreon | Discord | Twitch

Owlkhemy's Thoughts on Random Stuff
Nobody asked but I don't really care, it's my blog /lh
Long post incoming so here's a cut
The Term "Phobia"
Phobia means "fear of". I often wonder if I have cosmophobia, or the fear of space, due to having situations and dreams where I felt an intense dread of the night sky.
Phobia does not mean "hate". A homophobe would not hate gay people but rather fear them. A Sinophobe would not hate Chinese people, but rather fear them.
I like the suffix "misia" for those things, cause that means "hatred of". Homomisia, Sinomisia, things like that. Of course, I know that "phobia" is still commonly used that way, and I won't bother trying to correct others. I just think that it can be kind of offensive to actual phobia sufferers. I don't hate space. I think space is cool. It just scares me for no good reason.
Tone Indicators
I was introduced to tone indicators through Tumblr, and while I always knew of /j, /s, and /srs, I wasn't aware there were more. I was sort of like "Everyone is using these all of a sudden and I need to learn themmmm" which is a stupid way to think honestly and just shows how privileged I am not to need them. But I realize now how helpful they are for others and also helpful for my snarky ass statements, like the one at the start of this post. I bet that would've sounded pretty bad without that /lh there.
Toxic Traits? Like, My Own
My three most toxic traits are 1. my brain gets personally offended by self care and self love tips on the internet (like straight up goes "Doesn't apply to us, carry on"), 2. I am very good at convincing myself that since everyone has it worse I can't possibly have any problems, and 3. I have the urge to vent everything online but not to see a therapist or anything. Heh.
Purple Chu Jelly
I and @redpanda411 have been watching a 100% playthrough of Twilight Princess and I love the fact that getting and drinking Purple Chu Jelly is so wild. You can gain hearts, lose hearts, get a full heal, or basically drop to one hit from death. It's like jelly roulette.
Phone Autocorrect
When I accidentally type "xooler than", my phone should know I meant "cooler" based on the fact that X and C are next to each other. Not "Xavier", simply because it begins with X. You'd have to be in a very unique position to type "xooler" instead of "Xavier", and "Xavier than" makes no sense anyway.
This is why I like computer spellcheck better.
