Some funkdela catalogue minus designs I made a couple of days ago
The third one (sly fox) was especially fun to design for me, it was inspired by the fact that kitsunes in mythology also like to shapeshift into people as a form of deception, which I think fits the intruder/alternates in general

okay, since the angst was devastating for me uhh let's give him some comical funny. yeah, it would definitely be confusing for mark to meet some strangers that claimed to be his.... friends (minus altcesar cause he still believes it's the real cesar)
but what if he's 10x smarter than pre-impalement? like, he knows that something's wrong with cesar and he would definitely see alternates as uhhh. nuisance. because they're mostly just talk and no act? then he walks away if he stays with an alternate for more than five minutes.
idk, but i think it's kinda funny if he's not influenced by the alternates long ass lecture
Honestly, there's a lot of potential with a htb Mark who loses his memory after the impaling - how it would interact with/change the trajectory of alt!Cesar's character development would be so interesting to explore! Like, Mark being fully convinced that this alternate is in fact his best friend, the real Cesar whilst alt!Cesar has to deal with the guilt of lying to him. Like, alt!Cesar gets what he originally wanted, the chance to stay with Mark - to have Mark fully trust him. As though INWCT never happened. Nothing has to change. And yet so much has. Because this alt!Cesar has had 6 years (600 years) in the void, then went on a month's long campaign of resentment and killing, and carries the trauma of having seen Mark die and been the one to kill him. How can he reconcile with that? How can he make it up to a Mark that doesn't remember him but remembers the person he replaced?
The guilt would be unbearable. Because every time Mark looks at him, he tastes that sweetness he first got addicted to. Kindness and affection, love that he hasn't felt in so long. The conflict of wanting it so badly but knowing that it isn't for him. It's all for the Cesar that he killed 6 years ago.
...okay so I realise that this was meant to be a silly fun ask but Mark losing his memory post injury is giving me brain rot in the best of ways lmao

I'm sorry to ask but could you explain both the tethered au and the broken ties au to someone who is for the most part clueless? I've been scrolling trying to figure things out but I keep getting the two mixed up (despite one being a subsection) my brain is just struggling for whatever reason lol. but I'm super interested because the universe you created seems really cool and I'm not usually into tmc aus! ty
Nah don’t worry about asking anon! I don’t mind answering the questions. I get how they can be mixed up a good bit considering they’re relatively similar minus a few details. The introductory post for Tethered itself is here
I’m also gonna toss in the subsection au where the group ends up with alt!Cesar since I think it’s funny

TETHERED TOGETHER
The main AU and the one the alternate scenarios/subsections come from; Tethered Together (usually referred to as just Tethered) is an au in which those who die relating to alternates come back as spirits; their visible form varies (as seen with Mark, who has wings when no other one does) but it always shows how they have died. The general idea for Mark and Cesar is that Mark has a gunshot wound to the side of his head while Cesar’s throat is slit. Mark is infinitely bleeding from his would, and the blood flow gets worse the more upset he is. Sorry Mark fans, he has a bad time here ^^’
The two spirits ended up tied together and then to Cesar’s old house, but when Adam and Jonah came along for their ghost cat the spirits ended up stopping them from respectively leaving the house and going into the basement. The two alive teens end up stuck with the ghosts because the two accidentally ‘tethered’ to them, hence the au name.
Alt!Cesar is a prominent figure here! Long story short, he tries to kill Jonah. In this, Jonah survives.
A note about alt!Cesar— alternates shouldn’t be able to physically harm or touch anyone; however when he killed Cesar it took over their body and now he can physically touch people. Sucks for his victims
I feel it’s also important to note, in the overall au + it’s subsections Adam is not an alternate‼️ He’s just an apathetic guy lookin’ for his mom.
BROKEN TIES
The first of the subsections, this follows the same timeline and all of the rules to the first one, but when Alt!Cesar attacks Jonah, he dies. Upsetting, unfortunate, it be like that sometimes. That’s basically the difference, he’s just a ghost now.
He can’t speak like the others and his bones glow through his skin. He doesn’t bleed like mark unless he’s reeeeally upset. I feel like the reason for the name doesn’t need to be explained
TANGLED BINDS
(name may be changed)
This is just the au where Jonah somehow befriends alt!Cesar and the entire group is stuck with him because whenever alt!Cesar tries to leave (trust me it’s ass does not wanna be with them) he blacks out and wakes up by one of the group again.
It’s basically just:
Jonah, stoned: you ever just,, wonder if you can say nuh uh to the guy telling you what to do
Alt!Cesar: ..CAN I?
They’re buddies. Jonah’s got a friendly/neutral dynamic with him since yknow. He tried to kill him and already did kill two of his friends; but Alt!Cesar’s basically like a really feral guard dog with Jonah. Mark tries to sick him onto Adam one day but Jonah stops that.
It’s called tangled ties cause somehow they managed to get a fucking alternate in the family dynamic

She has a more punk-rock or indie energy to her but she'd be so down to listen to goth music too
She doesn't really mind at all if you wear all the make-up and all of that, maybe that helps her with her face paint for her job
Billie seems like the type to keep her life sort of private from others so I don't think she'd introduce you to her co-workers but she's not against it if you guys cross paths
I'm just imagining a little scenario where you're out and about and so happen to come across the Big Top truck and decide to get some lunch and "bug" Billie
"Hey, welcome to Big To-... Babe? What are you doing here?" I was around the block and remembered that your truck stops here on it's route. So I thought I'd stop by."
Penny loves you off the bat. "Aw! Billie! You didn't tell us you had a partner!"
Tim thinks you look cool and cracks a joke. "I think you've got the wrong truck. Zomburger's some place else."
Steve... actually thinks you are a new member of Zomburger and gets nervous. But then he finds out that you're fine, then he does Steve things
Billie actually likes you a lot. I can see her sitting down and letting you do the make up on her while listening to music on a speaker
Frances
She has theatre kid rizz of course she's pulling a goth/hj
I feel like she'd actually introduce you to Doc and Conrad outside of work, and they like you
You and Cesare met on accident. You just wanted to say hi to Frances and the crew but when you walked up Cesare popped out and rambled. You complimented his look and he said something like "Thanks, I always look like this."

She also likes having you put the make up on her but she also likes stealing your clothes too
She brings you along on hang outs with the zomburger crew (minus Cesare) and they don't mind, they think your a delight to have around

Cesar hcs mayhaps?
ooooo I can try !! I don’t talk about Cesar nearly as much as I should lol
I see Cesar as Mark’s outlet to a normal life, if that makes sense! If Mark grew up in a very religious household and didn’t experience anything other than white Catholicism, Cesar probably introduced him to a lot of parts of life he wasn’t aware of previously! I’m ride or die Dave bought Mark his first drum set, he would be a mom’s public enemy number 1 /lh, but Cesar was the one who convinced him to join their church band! (It’s just the two of them,, but that’s okay !! cesar plays acoustic guitar so like that’s basically a band minus a bass player)
Cesar gives me the energy of so many of my college friends where they seem very popular and untouchable but in reality are very dorky and “uncool” /aff. Sometimes you need a friend where you feel able to feel like your authentic very uncool self! And that’s why I think Mark and Cesar’s friendship is so effective :D
As for more general hcs, Cesar strikes me as the sort of person who seeks to outmom the competition. He has the snack bag, he has the permanent parental approval to sleep over, and he has the therapist chair in his room. I’ll avoid the angst implications of that for now, but yes yes mom friend Cesar. He has to be, what with Mark’s aggressive tendency to not take care of himself and Sarah’s aggressive tendencies in general.
He’s definitely the goody two shoes of the pair. Cesar is an only child raised by his good catholic mother, so while he’s probably given more freedom due to maybe not being as strict a catholic as Mark, he’s genuinely surprised by the capacity for teen menace Mark has. An example below the cut, for ur reading pleasure:
They went to Cesar’s house after band practice. Cesar drove his Mama’s old minivan, Mark tapping out beat patterns as they passed the strip malls and empty malls draped in late evening sun. The radio played a dull hum, a low murmur laced with a static buzz, but it all fell to an easy silence when Mark cleared his throat.
“Sometimes when we go to mass the only thing I want to do is knock over that stupid podium that asshole stands at.”
“Slow your roll, you heretic, what did the new preacher do to you?
Mark frowned and slouched in his seat.
“I don’t know. He talks like we’re all servants of God, and our purpose is to further His goal, or whatever. Which is fine, but I feel like He wants us to be happy, and that leading fulfilling lives is what furthers His goal. Living moral lives and living in His image is what betters the world.”
Cesar tapped his fingers on the steering wheel, lost in the blur of houses along the residential street. He clicked the radio off, the static ringing in his ears.
“No, you’re definitely right. I’m just surprised that your first thought was to knock a podium over when I have to order for you when we buy lunch.”
Mark scoffed in indignation, and Cesar laughed. It was a welcome feeling, hearing him laugh, Cesar decided.
“Slow your roll, rebel boy, just let me know when you want to order dinner. And tell me before you go full teen menace, I’ll need to bring a camera.”
