I was awestruck by this display. The density of detail between the buildings, people, and ships, is almost overwhelming. This was the last diorama of the series (or the first depending on which way you were coming from). The California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento was worth visiting for this series of dioramas alone.
*Smuggler’s Cove*
This O scale narrow gauge layout, Smuggler’s Cove, built by Michael Flack and the late Geoff Knott in Australia, depicts a fictional New England fishing community modeled after towns in coastal Massachusetts and Maine. Small and large fishing boats and the steamboat Sabino near the Maritime Museum play a prominent role in this coastal diorama. Look for intricate details such as the scratch built lobster traps, floats, and fish crates stacked on the pier. How many seagulls can you spot in Smuggler’s Cove?
*Geoff Knott and Michael Flack*
The late Geoff Knott and Michael Flack were insprred to build Smuggler’s Cove after discovering the history of rum-running along the East Coast of the US, in the carly 1900s, their inspiration for Smuggler’s Cove came after Geoff and Michael traveled to New England and visited Cape Cod, Boothbay Harbor, Bar Harbor, and Kennebunkport, Geoff and Michael helped to popularize O scale models. <Layout furnished by the Australasian Region of the NMRA>.

"I went about it systematically. After serving an apprenticeship in a machine shop, I studied metalwork and carpentry before I figured I was ready to start building. Then I built a train to one-eighth scale. The engine and the tender combined was seven feet long and operated on coal and water, like the ones I had known as a news butcher. I fashioned all the cars myself. The boxcars were big enough for a person to straddle, and the flatcars could seat two. My special pride was the caboose, which I furnished entirely in miniature, right down to the pot-bellied stove. The engine was designed after one that had run on the old Central Pacific, so I named my little railroad the CP, for Carolwood Pacific, the street I lived on." -Walt, Railroad Magazine, October 1965 #waltdisney #walt #disney #railroadmagazine #railroad #modelrailroad #miniature #waltwednesday (at Holmby Hills, Los Angeles) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch7vd9Fp3uS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

also if tlou has inspired the duffers as much as i think, im thinking about in s2 how Will describes the spreading of those vain like tunnels…. and i suspected this before even watching the show, but whos to say the Upside Down hadnt built a living breathing organism right under Hawkins in s2, and it’s still there with its built in hivemind mechanics… just waiting, waiting for someone like Vecna to bring it back to life.

Visited the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento, and they had a scale model railroad display. I honestly like seeing them to learn what I can for my own craft. This was one of them.
Lime Kiln
The Lime Kiln diorama, based on an actual set of lans in Felton, California, was built by the late Jim Vail. Look for the miniature workers in the kiln, and the detail of the limestones as they are processed. The lime from Felton was used to make cement for the growing city of San Francisco and surrounding Bay Area cities.

West Side Lumber
Located in Tuolumne, a small city in the Sierra Foothills, the West Side Lumber Company once operated an extensive logging operation served by a narrow gauge railroad. This HO scale model by Jim Vail is a foreshortened representation of the sawmill, which was modified to include a small farm scene.

I’ve been writing up some reviews for Midwest Model Railroad where I buy most of my paints. I feel it is important to leave reviews that encourage others both in skill and to buy from a retailer I happen to like. There is so much garbage out there on the internet a good solid review is important for those looking into a new hobby. Always the off chance someone will check out more of my work too!
Vallejo Model Color #35 17ml - 70-918 Ivory is everything I have come to expect from Vallejo Model Color. Smooth even color with phenomenal coverage that does not obscure details. You have got to have this color it makes bone look incredible. The Wolfkin Mage has all the skulls base-coated in Ivory which I added after base-coating everything around it, you cannot see where I was not the neatest painter on the body, shoulder straps or the demon’s horn. The ivory paint served as a one-coat clean-up. The One-eyed Raven is base coated in ivory, washed in sepia, and then touched up again with the ivory. That’s it and what an incredible little miniature! Check it and others out on my eBay page or my blog at https://www.tumblr.com/willowwind78   Body is Vallejo Model Color #35 17ml - 70-949 Thick Fur is Vallejo Model Color #35 17ml - 70-70.877 Gold Brown Sash is Vallejo Model Color #35 17ml - 70-902 Azure Waist Accent Vallejo Model Color #35 17ml - 70-958 Pink Skulls Vallejo Model Color #35 17ml - 70-918 Ivory
I LOVE Vallejo Model color paint! It is almost the only brand I use for painting 28mm fantasy role-playing figures. I start with Vallejo 28010 - AFV Basic White Primer Spray and finish with Vallejo 28531 - Matte Varnish Spray. They are versatile, easy to use, mix beautifully, come in plenty of different hues, and you get a lot of bang for your buck. A 17mL drop dropper bottle goes a long, long way. One drop covers A LOT of surface area. Dropper bottle keeps your paint fresh, and free from contamination and evaporation. Also, if you’re a little bit clumsy like me, you can drop them, knock them over, or bounce them off the floor with very little mess. Dries to the touch in minutes with a stronger more permanent set in 7-10 days. I wouldn’t recommend playing or varnishing until after a week to allow for this sturdier dry time.
If you’re interested in seeing more of my work, or purchasing some of it, you can see and buy finished pieces on eBay. Look for seller name Williwowind78. Buy your paint from Midwest Model Railroad! The customer service and the price are worth the shipping.
