Look I know normally I post about like fandoms and stuff but I saw these cute ass ducks (and chicks) at TSC (tractor supply Co for those who don't know) and I had to grab 2 each. We already have 4 others (2 Indian Runners and 2 Golden 300s) and 6 chickens (3 Barred Rock, 3 Cuckoos). The new ducks are supposed to be 2 Magpie Ducks and 2 Black Swedish! The grey chicks are Blue Plymouth Rock and the red ones are Rhode Island Reds! I'm super excited to have gotten them and I just love my little farm so much!
Look, I'm such a country bumpkin, y'all don't even understand. I sound like cornbread.

Reading for January 28th
Isaiah 19
Egypt was in decline since Ramses II died in 1213 BC. The next 500 years brought a string of Ramses wannabes, priests and Libyan warlords, finally deteriorating into a confederation of competing “mini-pharaohs” with in-fighting and civil war leading to massive economic instability and famine. This set the stage for the Nubians in the south sweeping up into the Nile Delta, conquering the squabbling factions in 712 BC. This is the Egypt of Isaiah and this unrest and turmoil may be what is referred to in verses 1-16.
I find the rest of the chapter confusing. Isaiah says Judah will bring terror to Egypt, Egyptians will swear allegiance to Yaweh, and Egypt, Assyria and Israel will be blessed by Yaweh and be a blessing on the earth. If anyone has any insight into this, I’d love to hear it.
But let’s check out one verse . . .
“In that day there will be . . . a monument to the LORD at its border.” v 19.
Pharaohs loved tooting their own horns and hieroglyphs still exist attesting to that–on walls, temples, tombs, etc. Smaller monuments placed at borders, river crossings, etc. exclaiming exploits are called steles. Attached is a picture of the Victory Stele of Piye, the Nubian pharaoh who conquered Egypt. If you look closely, you can make out 8 prostrated figures at the top representing the “mini-pharaohs” he conquered.
But monuments to the Lord were different. These monuments (standing stones--Heb: massebah) were likely large nondescript rocks. Israel erected 12 stones after crossing the Jordan (Josh 4). Moses stood up 12 stones at the foot of Mt Sinai to commemorate the 10 commandments (Ex 24). Unlike the pharaoh's steles, they did not extol the virtues of man. Joshua tells us, “  . . . when your children ask you ‘what do these stones mean?’ tell them . . .”  (Josh 4:6). They reinforced oral traditions and prompted telling the story of what God had done.
1 Peter 2:5, describes us as “living stones.”  We are God’s living standing stones; His massebah; His living steles. Do we live our life in such a manner as to prompt others to ask “What special thing  is going on here?” Do our lives spur discussion on the goodness and greatness of God?  Are we effective living standing stones?
