#pbbttghh. valentine#she had a rough start in life but came to live with me at the same time as hallow so they grew up together#valentine kidded in late june and got so stressed out during the fourth of july ''''''celebrations''''' that she bloated#my spouse was in vietnam that week and i had to deal with....all of that. all by myself#the fourth of july is always a shitshow at my house because my immediate neighbours don't understand the concept of respecting animals#we've asked them a million times 'hey don't fire artillery over our yard it freaks the animals out' but they don't care#i lost about twelve rabbits last year as well as my goat despite moving all my growouts into my house#i have to do this every year. i have to cram every single high-risk rabbit into four carriers and bring them in#like as many animals as possible. crowded on top of one another in the carriers.#it's NOT GOOD but that's the only chance they have of not just dropping dead or bloating to death from stress#can't wait to see who dies this year!!!!!!!!! i hate everything!#anyway this is val and her two kids that were orphaned at about three weeks old#a friend took them because i just couldn't deal with more bottle babies that year after wellie daisy and maple#i miss valentine. she was such a sweet girl#one teat had a moonspot on it and it was funny

America is absolutely disconnected to meat
I think I realized this when I had went to see my dad and stepmom one day and asked if I could place my hawk’s food. (A rabbit leg) in the freezer. My step mom was disgusted by the idea that a leg from an animal was in the freezer meanwhile an entire chicken was sitting in the fridge.
Your rotisserie chicken is an entire chicken.
Your pork chop is a hunk of pig.
Your rack of ribs are from a cow’s rib cage.
It’s like Americans view meat as colorful red and pink hued shapes that just exist and come into the world packaged.
You see so many people getting harassed or even having their content flagged for showing how to process or field dress meat when it’s at it’s freshest. Right after culling. For some reason this is considered “gore” by many folks when in reality it’s no more different from plucking a processed chicken after cull.
You also notice that Americans have an idea of what’s normal meat and what isn’t normal meat and there’s racist undertones that I’ve noticed in a lot of these comments left on foreign cooking videos
You have people that claim a video of a man in a different country preparing something like this is “eating a dog.” Meanwhile this is roasted goat.
You have people who’s only perception of an edible fish is in fillet or fish stick form and they call something like this nasty because “Eww there’s a head!” Yeah.. most animals have heads..
Some of ya’ll need to realize what your meat looks like prior to processing and that it’s prepared in different ways. We also need to erase the stigma behind non traditional meats.
#i always remember one time a coworker of my dad's gave us three whole ducks that he'd hunted#i think they didn't have heads but they still had the feet on#and my mom freaked out when she opened the freezer to see six little duck feet sticking out at her#she won't eat my rabbits because she played with them as babies#and dead rabbits look too much like the animal they are for her#i bet she won't eat my lamb or goat either#if you can't look your food in the face and thank it for its sacrifice you need to stop fucking eating meat#full stop.#ag talk

#baby daisy and maple :)#speaking of horrible things happening last year: their mother was euthanised to try and cull out CL#unfortunately it's still here...but i feel like i did the right thing in trying#so i bottle raised them from day one because i wanted the least chance of transmission#we'll find out this year whether or not they got it anyway lol but i just kinda assume everyone has or will have it eventually#but i really loved their mom (violet's sister) and there was other stuff going on in the personal life that made that weekend...rough#mini nubian#kids#maple#daisy

four goose eggs went into the machine, two were empty at two and a half weeks, one stopped developing at three, and now the last one has been in lockdown for like four days and nothing is happening
last year all my eggs would die right before they hatched, developed until the eggs turned dark and then never emerged. i bought a new incubator and i'm having the same goddamn problem over again
i am never going to be able to repopulate my sanjaks are i

excited about pasture
#baby betty!!!#she was a house lamb for a few weeks and. while it was very cute to have a lamb follow me everywhere#she scoured basically that ENTIRE time and i was glad when she could finally wean so i didn't have to deal with any more diapers#(she was in the house during the day because i didn't have anywhere to put her separate from her dam at the time)#(and i wanted to bottle raise her so she'd be nice lol)#once she got on more solid food she stopped scouring; the formula didn't agree with her that well i guess#also she was born on the winter equinox...which was the COLDEST DAY OF THE YEAR that year#it was something like 15F that night and i stayed up to make sure the babies came out right and were warmed up and fed properly#so that's why the grass is all dead...it's the middle of winter haha#another surprise batch of lambs from an auction house ewe#black betty#kathadin sheep#lambs#throwback thursday

#nigerian dwarf#hallow#this photo is a farce she is too short to jump up there so i put her in the seat cos i thought it'd be cute 😔#i bought like 800lb of bricks that day so the truck was out in the pasture and they were trying to climb all over it with their tiny legs#yes my truck is filthy. yes it's older than a good portion of you who are reading this. no the radio doesn't work#but it was my grandpa's truck and it's come halfway across the country with me all the way from louisiana#and i will drive it until it simply cannot be driven anymore#last time it was in the shop for a minor repair the mechanic pressure washed it for me cos he was tired of seeing it green 😭 fgdkjsdgkj#it's green again after all the pollen i should bust out a hose so he don't have to do it for me again#throwback thursday
