Interesting question to think about: Have more blocks been placed or broken in ALL of Minecraft?
TNT, creepers, cobble generators, etc don't count as a block placed or a block broken. It has to be an actual player character placing or breaking a block - which means that placing a TNT counts but the TNT detonating and breaking blocks doesn't.
Additionally, commands like /fill and worldedit don't count at all.
I'm not making a poll for this because I have too few followers for it to be a statistically significant result. But I'll leave my thoughts below.
On one hand, you have >100 million Minecraft sales, and most players end up breaking a ton of blocks for mineshafts and making a comparatively small house, and ending up with several chests of cobblestone.
On the other hand, you have creative mode, where you can make whatever house you want without needing to break any of the blocks to get there.
You have 2b2t. The blocks are cheated in, but they're placed by hand which still counts as placing blocks.
You have scicraft (and the scientific side of Minecraft) making giant TNT dupers so they never have to break a lot of blocks. (Also making farms and etc)
You have modded Minecraft, letting you easily automate cobble gens and quarries so you don't need to go strip mining (and you get to build a giant base)
You have maparts, pieces of art made in Minecraft placed block by block and - even if it is destroyed - it's usually destroyed with tnt.
Inspired by the "are there more doors or windows in the world" question.

i think being minecraft character would be pretty neat. i would mine to deepslate, get myself some very fast diamond tools, and destroy france and use the blocks for something more useful to the world (giant mapart of penois)
