Such an intricate spirit of fate is at play in this movie. The elements and display of faith(s) is making me want a rewatch already. It really is so tender. What can I not love about a movie that wraps up agriculture, assimilation, and family in such a beautifully shot and scored way? Please, if you have the ability hug your grandmother for me.

MINARI (2020) Grade: B
They developed each character so equally beautiful, I think one could argue each is the films POV. Loved the composition and acting. The grandma is one of the best written characters I've seen in awhile.

movie of the week: minari
starting a new series in hopes i can improve my writing skills in english, where i watch a movie a week and a show a month (and one piece in a year)
todays (last weeks) movie is...
Tumblr media
Minari, directed by Lee Isaac Chung, is a 2020 movie starring Steven Yeun, Han Yeri, Youn Yuh-Jung, Will Patton, Alan Kim, and Noel Cho. It won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and the Golden Globe for the Best Foreign Language Film (was totally robbed of best film in general but i digress). Half in English and half in Korean, Minari carefully examines the Asian American Dream and family dynamics in an unsure world with tenderness, sweetness, and care. This movie has a plot, but not in the traditional movie way. Throughout the movie, everything slowly, slowly builds towards the climax, and the climax never fully feels as if it goes down. From when the climax starts to when the movie ends, I felt excited and on the edge of my seat. Something in me is slightly unsatisfied, almost as if the climax of the movie did not match with mood that was established a couple minutes before. Overall, this movie is a must watch for anyone that liked Everything Everywhere All at Once for the Asian family oriented feeling (NOT for the crazy multiverse plot).

Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role:
Minari is truly the best. It grows anywhere, like weeds. So anyone can pick and eat it. Rich or poor, anyone can enjoy it and be healthy. Minari can be put in kimchi, put in stew, put in soup. It can be medicine if you are sick. Minari is wonderful, wonderful!
