Porsche Type 597 'Jagdwagen' Prototype, 1955. To be offered at RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction in August. The 597 was Porsche’s proposal for the German Army for a light field vehicle. Initially 22 prototypes were built, of which this is the 5th. When the German army chose Auto Union’s DKW “Munga” instead, Porsche continued to offer the 597 to foreign armies and also a “hunting vehicle” but demand was low and only 71 were built. The example offered has undergone a full restoration and is powered by a period correct 1.5 litre flat 4 derived from the Porsche 356 engine, with 4 speed manual transmission and selectable 4 wheel drive

Today is a special day for me. I officially turn 62, we all know what that means. I can get my senior lifetime national parks pass. It’s the little things that make me happy. Well that and finding unique vehicles while we are out on our roadtrips.
