“From Canada: Middle Fast Assembly Line,” Kingston Whig-Standard. June 11, 1942. Page 10.  ---- A corner of an unidentified Middle East assembly yard is jammed with trucks described as “just arrived from Canadian factories." The trucks go through rigid tests after assembly and then are sent into service. The trucks may be labelled for Libya or for Russia. Dominion-made equipment is on every front now.

I like to think that before Jay left Chicago he asked Hailey to take care of his truck while he is away. Something like:
“Just start it up every now and then so the battery doesn’t die. And, only if it’s no trouble, maybe even drive it around the block to make sure it’s running okay.”
He thought it was a simple request, but she takes it very seriously. So, every now and then as he asked, she climbs into the driver’s seat of his truck and starts it. Sometimes she sits in silence, sometimes she puts on one of their playlists, but every time she feels close to him. Her version of “every now and then” is probably more often than he intended, but she doesn’t mind. Because somehow, someway, taking care of this one extension of him feels like taking care of him. As every other connection to him feels like a distant memory fading away with each passing day, she finds solace in that one thing. And she hopes that one day if when he comes home, that one thing has been enough to keep their embers burning just long enough to stir up a wildfire between them again.

shoutout to cyberpunk 2077 for discouraging me from wanting to become a fighter pilot
i remember going to some air show, and being just so completely enamoured with the fighters. just. wanting that. flying through the skies at entirely zoo high velocities. surrounded by amazing technology. so what if i'd have to kill ppl? might get killed myself?
"They didn't even have to recruit 'em - they just.. showed them the tech."
i'm having a hard time finding an exact source for that quote, and thus a hard time verifying its accuracy - but something along those lines was saved. and fuck, if that didnt resonate with me then...
not gonna bother doing some in-depth analysis for how that quote fits in today's world or whatever, i suck at that shit. but i feel like it is a sentiment worth spreading. to try n avoid being dazzled by the tech. or noticing when you are, and thinking critically about it.
went to the same airshow a year later, with a new, much more critical view of things. was as cool as ever, except i was a lil less enamoured with the idea of actually using the tech this time 'round. saw an f35, so that was cool.

Well, well. I didn't believe the forecasts.
Yesterday morning my outdoor thermometer read 41°F. Yet throughout the day my phone buzzed with weather and commuter travel alerts.
It would have to get colder for snow to accumulate. The child-like excitement that usually washes over me when I anticipate a big snowfall didn't happen. I also lacked the Minnesota instinct to hurry to the grocery store and stock up on bread, rice, and milk.
Wearing my comfortable wool slippers and a favorite sweatshirt, I stood at the window, sipped some fresh, hot coffee, and thought--they've gotten this wrong before. Ten hours later I watched heavy flakes falling and not melting.
We have had an unusually warm and snowless winter here in the Twin Cities. Two inches or so fell back in December. The day it happened I grabbed a shovel and cleared the driveway. All the snow melted soon enough anyway, but that shovel looked sad hanging on the garage wall. "Put me in, coach!"
A few folks were out riding motorcycles in January. Temps nearly reached 60°F a few times. Naturally there were some guys who wore shorts outside so they didn't suffer heat exhaustion.
We also saw -11°F in January. People who leave snarky comments on newspaper articles claimed an extreme (or even "nearly a record!") temperature as proof that their climate religion is the correct one. The rest of you heretics should boil/freeze to death.
Weather experts claim March is actually the snowiest month in this state. Next week's forecast says highs in the upper 20s and sunshine, so this snow coverage may be around for a while this month.
Now I'm going to sip some hot coffee, take another look outside, and be thankful I didn't leave a snarky comment on a news article that reported it would snow last night.

You know, I've been thinking about this lately, but for a Cybertronian, it must be TERRIFYING when someone like Elita-1 or Arcee walks into the room. Because not only are they extremely intimidating individuals in their own rights, but these are mechs that have specifically chosen to paint themselves in the same color as energon. (At least in Elita's case, but I like to think Arcee's was a conscious decision as well).
Tumblr media
Like. The gall you have to possess in order to walk around every single day, wearing the same shade as your people's lifeblood, is INSANE. (And I think in some comics it's mentioned that this is exactly the color of innermost energon, which is SO METAL).
Even after the war is good and done with, she continues to keep up with that *very specific* shade of pink. And I think this is often discounted by the people consuming Transformers content because to us, it's just a silly little shade of pink on a girl robot. This subversion in her color scheme is especially cool to me in continuities where Elita-1 is a known threat, like IDW. Hell, during the whole Carcer debate thing it's shown that she literally TOWERS over Starscream. She may not be a tank, but she's huge, and she makes sure to use this to her advantage. This isn't even to mention how utterly brilliant she is. I'd be willing to bet that if things had gone differently, she could've made an absolutely ruthless leader of Cybertron. In my mind she rivals Megatron and Optimus in all aspects.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's no wonder the Council is so afraid of her. Elita-1 is a mech that's proven time and time again that she's wickedly intelligent, ruthless in battle, and knows how to make a statement. She's spent her time intentionally making herself as big of a threat as possible in every way. She literally acts as her own warning sign (that paint just SCREAMS 'I know how dangerous I am, and so should you'). Honestly, I'd piss myself if I ever met her on a battlefield or if I ever had to debate against her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One last note, I really enjoyed the way Elita's character was handled later on in the IDW comics. It was amazing to finally get her out from Optimus' shadow and not only give her some actual characterization but to see her become so vastly DIFFERENT from her earlier counterparts. This Elita means business. She's independent to an insane degree. I really love the way she got to reclaim the pink as something that's no longer just a color she was given because she's a girl robot, but as a critical piece of her character and a part of WHY she's so feared. I just love Elita-1.
I'd like to really explore this whole concept (when I have some more time for it) within my own AU. Because this kind of stuff is incredibly fascinating to me. I have some very specific ideas on both Warframes and Femmes, and this is one of those perfect tie-ins imo. Love it when women get to be evil <3
