The next day, Kayla had gotten prepared for school, she put on her school clothes and ID, got her backpack and water bottle, and headed out the door. Kayla's Mother didn't drive, and her Father always had work in the morning, so she had no choice but to take the bus to school. It had been like that ever since she started school. It wasn't bad, usually quiet in the morning. Somehow, it annoyed her to hear the highschoolers in the back of the bus gossiping, laughing, and joking around, but they were dropped off at the high-school first, and then it would be her turn to be dropped off.

Kayla was in Junior-High-School, 7th grade. It was the beginning of October, her favorite month. She loved spooky season, and she loved Halloween. "Aren't you excited for Halloween Kayla?! We all know you're kind of emo and your favorite color is black, so I'm guessing you're hyped up.", Her friend Sylina told her once she arrived at school. "Yeah, totally. Especially all that sweet candy." Kayla responded back bitterly, she usually said things in a sweet tone, but today, Sylina couldn't understand how she said something nice, but the way it was delivered was bone chilling.

"I've never been allowed to go trick or treating.", Kayla stated softly as she threw her breakfast tray away and headed for the exit of the cafeteria. "What?!", Sylina exclaimed. "Trick-or-Treating is the best thing you could ever do around this time of year! It's pretty fun, I've been Trick-or-Treating, and I've got to say, its awesome!", As Sylina rambled on about Trick-or-Treating, Kayla zoned out. She appreciated Sylina being her friend, but sometimes she talked too much. Kayla scolded herself inside her head for thinking such, but she couldn't deny, it was true.

It had been the end of the first 9-weeks, meaning she had a new activity period. Her activity period was first period, and it had been Music, but now it was P.E., and it wasn't like she thought it'd be. Coach Stife, they say, had been the instructors name in P.E.. Usually, all they did the first day was sit on benches and have to be quiet, but the second day, they were allowed to play with the dummy-flat basketballs that couldn't even survive one bounce. Not what Kayla was expecting.

"Hey! Can you pass the ball back?" A random 6th-Grader asked her after a flat basketball rolled towards her. "Oh sure.", she said politely as she kicked it back to the boy gently. "Thanks!" the boy said heartily, and went back to dribbling, throwing, missing, picking the ball up again, and repeating the cycle. Kayla watched and thought about herself. That's exactly how she felt. She'd try, put in the work, and she'd disappoint herself, but she tried again, and again, and again, still the same disrespect, mean kids, unworthy things coming to her, but she had no choice but to keep going, what would her parents think if she gave up on everything, what would they think if she was tired, felt lifeless, meaningless, angry, sad, or any other emotion other than happy?
