this is petty but when people say "i understand the nuance behind toshiro but i still don't like him because he was mean to my baby boy laios 🥺" all i hear is "some people yelled at me for being ignorant so i pretend to care about toshiro's nuance but i'm white so i still think he's an awful, ableist piece of shit"

Sorry, but no. Really not. If someone says 'this act of kindness means they're attracted, no other explanation allowed' is interpretation at best and a bit obnoxious at worst, but still valid to have as a way to see a couple. Because we're talking about, you know, fandom ships. Cartoons. Characters who are fictional, represented by actors. Not real people.
If someone supposes that about real people, yeah, it's shitty to do and full stop please. It's undoubtable a microaggresion towards aro and/or ace people, which I'm. I despise when people suppose that about me. I got pretty mad the other day with a sexologist because they said that people 'cannot live without sex and that's unhealthy, to not received the addecute sexual energy we all need'. But me, I'm a real person. And the sexologist was talking also about real people, talked and thought about people who do not have sex for whatever reasons and for her shitty ideology, that's not good. Not fiction.
If someone says that an act of whatever, kindness be the most common, about a goddamned ship, like our typical buddycop show, it's not a microaggresion. Because the person saying it is not thinking about you. It's not even thinking about aroace people, like that dumb sexologist, it's thinking about how good those fictional little people would kiss and/or fuck. And that's all. And you assuming that people who interpret a couple in a sexual/romantic way have ill thoughts about the aroace community is fucking stupid, and how do you know that the person saying that is not also aro and/or ace themselves?
Like sure, it can feel pretty bad to have a different interpretation about a couple of characters, but for that you search for people who share it and you talk about without throwing anyone under a bus.

If I see one more person calling Dina a one-note character or whatever, I am willing to fight someone. It's almost like you didn't pay attention to the scenes where she talked about her sister, family, and her religion/her families religion amongst lots of dialogue/character arc which shows us and tells us a lot about her.
Dina could have had more development, but we see a lot of Dina + begin to know her a lot more in the game throughout and comparing her to Mel and Owen of all people is insulting. She is such a great character, and you always love to compare the queer/non-white/etc characters to the white/cis/straight/etc ones all the time.
The fandom can do better, and I respect people's opinions until it comes to clear microaggresions being held against certain characters. Anyways, Dina, all the way!

Call me delusional but i believe Nyra's love language is endurance and words of affirmation in the sense that she was pushing herself to deal with Alicents microaggresions in the first episode after the 10 year skip for the sake of getting on Alicent's good graces.
"She won't be satisfied with that" when she was called to present Joffrey cause she knew Alicent wanted to torture her like that and she still put up with it while she could have refused. But she wanted to appease Alicent.
Where I am getting with this is that I should write a fanfic where Alicent is mad at Nyra and Rhaenyra the himbo that she is falls to her knees and leaves a trail of kisses from Alicent's legs and make her way up to her mouth. Yk as a way to ask forgiveness.

Some people jump at the chance to reveal they think characters that are BIPOC lose their humanity if they behave in acceptable ways. The tiniest bit of deviation from the narrow path of righteousness, and POC become unfeeling brutes.
Any hint of violence and anger that isn’t in response to direct and immediate threat? Any reaction to something that might be perceived as a disproportionate? If a BIPOC does it, they’re a brute and a savage unfeeling animal that needs to be leashed and muzzled. Therefore, if the BIPOC on the show engage in the kind of violence and displays of anger that white pirates can revel in without remark because they’re seen as human by default, it must be explained away or mitigated because BIPOC can’t be both traditional pirates and people you root for or want happy endings for.
In that light, it makes sense the people in question don’t accuse Izzy of wanting Ed to be more like Calico Jack. They don’t say he wants Ed to be a typical pirate, or some archetypical party bro, or whatever. Nah. In wanting Ed to be the Ed he knew when they started, in wanting Ed to be Blackbeard, in wanting Ed to be the guy who sailed and had dalliances with Calico Jack, he must want Ed to be a beast, a savage, an unfeeling mindless killing machine. Calico Jack gets to be a jackass, a douchebro, fratbro Jack Sparrow, etc.
Ed? Ed must be a victim/survivor whose past violence is justifiable and/or exaggerated, and who wants nothing more than softness and serenity in the future. There’s an assumption made by some that to think of Ed otherwise, is to think of him as an animalistic stereotype.
And the people who think this and proudly say that it’s what they think, do so while claiming to be pushing back against racism. They’re trying to confine Ed’s humanity and the ways in which he can be viewed by the people who cheer for his happiness - on a show where Ed isn’t a token nonwhite character but part of an ensemble cast filled with BIPOC and therefore there’s no reason to project onto his portrayal the requirement of adhering to standards of respectability - and they’re doing it under the guise of antiracism in fandom. What’s scary is that I think they really believe it too.
Note: I’m not talking about when people express their interpretations and leave it at that. I’m talking about when people claim that disagreeing Izzy wants Ed to be a “savage” stereotype or claim thinking Ed is mercurial or violent - not especially so, but at all - is to ignore racism or to commit a microaggresion.
