Klub Kid Realness 👽💅🏻✨🛸🟢💖🧼🌟
Finally sharing my Klub Kid look I did for a virtual party I DJ'ed for back in March. Heavily inspired by Leigh Bowery, Kabuki Starshine, Amanda Lepore and the whole Klub Kid/Disco 2000 scene.
Also, had a lot of fun mocking up one of those collectable cards they did back then. And it actually has a whole "character description". 🤡💅🏻

ANDRE MELENDEZ
ANDRE MELENDEZ
1971-1996
Andre Melendez moved from Colombia to New York with his family when he was aged 8-years-old. He became a drug dealer during the 1990s at Peter Gatien’s nightclubs in NYC. He is best known for wearing feathered wings in Manhattan clubs.
Melendez was a member of the Club Kids, the Club Kids were a group of young people who would frequently occupy NYC nightclubs through the late 1980s and early 1990s. They were known for their outrageous dress and being flamboyant.
Melendez was murdered by Michael Alig and Robert Freeze Riggs on Sunday, 17 March 1996. There was a confrontation between the men which became violent, and the two men killed him. They then placed him in a bathtub and kept him there for 5-7 days, they then dismembered him and placed his body parts in bags and a cardboard box and dumped his remains in the Hudson River. The box was found in April 1996 in Staten Island (due to a tropical storm). He was identified by the use of dental records.
Alig fled to New Jersey and stayed at a motel room with his drug dealer boyfriend. Alig was arrested in December 1996 and hours later they arrested Riggs in Manhattan.
Alig and Riggs were offered a plea deal for 10-20 years if they accepted charge of manslaughter. In 1997 they pled guilty, Riggs was released on parole in 2010 and Alig released in 2014. Alig died in 2020 of a drug overdose aged 54.
