As funny as the concept of Cal “living in the vents” might be (shout-out to
@paxcallow)*, part of me was like, “No, this will not stand at all, he deserves a PROPER place to live,” So here’s an idea that I came up with. Picture this:
-Otto just so happens to have several storage warehouses located in the quarry near his lab. One of them isn’t being used for anything, so they decide to turn it into a house; everyone pitches in to help, with Cal staying at the dorms while the project is being completed.
-Since the PN are still kind of on a budget, a lot of the furniture is either
1) thrifted/refurbished
2) handmade using wood from the forest, repurposed scrap metal, and even salvaged materials from the remains of the old asylum.
-When it comes to the interior design, Cal refuses to let Sasha have any say in the matter. (He’s still kind of upset about the whole construct thing.) Milla is instead put in charge, and you better believe they go for the brightest, most garish colours they can find. Meanwhile, Sasha is stuck buying all the boring stuff (kitchenware, electronics, small appliances, etc.) He does, however, manage to win Cal over with the stained glass lamp he (reluctantly) buys for him.
-Several other characters bring things to help decorate his new place. (Nona Lucy sews him a quilt, Edgar does a black-velvet painting of a Spanish galleon, Morry gives him a framed All Paul poster, someone buys a bunch of cheap stuffed animals including a giant teddy bear, etc.)
-Some sea-themed stuff is also incorporated (nautical flags, large seashells, mounted steering wheel, ship in a bottle).
-After the house is completed, Morry, having been made Cal’s official P.O., offers to stay at the house in order to keep an eye on him, essentially becoming his roommate. (Big rainbow-coloured quotation marks around the word “roommate.”)
*This was before I found out it was supposed to be a “Community” reference. Oh well.
-Nat
This is a really cute headcanon and I want to add that I think after Cal has settled into his home for long enough and things are stable for him he should get a fish tank bc he longs for fish. He wanders over to the aquarium in the motherlobe near morry’s “office” and sighs loudly until someone gets the hint. He would have a nice big tank with multiple species that are safe for getting along. It’s partially to show how much he’s improved and will not do Any experiments on them, but also bc it’s just fun. Hey hey!
To answer your question shortly, it's Cast Tech.
The long answer is this:
There's a lot of things to consider when you choosing to live somewhere; rent/buying price, what you get (place wise), what opportunities are around, what is the atmosphere like…
In Vinyl city, especially in game you get a short insight of what each districts are like. Considering this is a game that is sentered around music, music will be quite apparent in the districts.
(and just like the npc Zed) I have some issues with music. Dont get me wrong, having ambient music can be someones dream, but i like my quiet nights irl. Cast tech seemed to be the least loudest, especially Advertisement wise (their promo video) Djsubsup has a deep voice that is easy to tune out after a while. (would have chosen Natura because of the way it is, i think it is definitely a calm and slow district, the opposite of metro division. But Naturas ad with Yinu start to bother me after a while.)
As much as i adore Dream Fever its really bright with white light esp. Also, This district and Natura is where i get lost the most in game, so even with my good sense of directions, i bet i'd be strolling around like a lost lamb most of the time.
Akusuka and Metro Division (and Dream Fever) are too bright for me. I have sensitive eyes (blu eye haverr yall get me) so all that bright colours and dark (in metro) can be hurtful in the long run. Natura would be perfect cause, nature, little bright lights, but alas, my problemm with the ad. (yes this is my dealbreaker even if there are easy solutions)
I like festival plaza but i have a feeling id be hearing the electricity/buzzing of the Qwaza all the time and that'd drive me crazy. Also this is the heart of the city, so a lot of people are expected. And i like calm areas so, ya.
Mamak? Hmm, maybe. I like it and it is definitely calmer. But lived in places like that and probably choose something different to see/experience new things.
So in conclusion, considering my own needs i think cast tech would be the district that i'd choose.
Yes, its canon that Djss ignores the district therefore it is the most underfunded, but it is quite dark with little bright lights (and i bet it looks different but still beautiful at day, AND quieter at day).
His ad video is easy to tune out and not big enough/liked enough to have people everywhere. Maybe in the main roads, but off to the side, in a small nook? could be perfect for me

Am I the only one who likes the idea of the Psychonauts becoming Caligosto's found family and providing him with the love, support, guidance, and understanding his shitbag parents never gave him?
Because as this point, I've realized that he needs A LOT than just an "Employee of the Year" Award and a tropical vacation. He needs a safe place where he can be surrounded by people who'll love him unconditionally; people who will stick up for him and not make him feel disposable or like a freak. And I feel that the Psychonauts can provide that.
After all, as a certain witch once said, "Us weirdos have to stick together."
you're definitely not alone in that thought I can assure you that, lots of ppl love the thought of bringing Cal on board into the psychonauts in a more meaningful way after the games conclude
I definitely think he needs something like that, he's gonna be directionless and stressed for a while now that hes both seen that his actions have consequences but also that hes been stuck doing the same bad things w/barely an exit sign outta there
i hope sasha and milla find him back at camp, and bring him back in maybe on his own accord, or at least on friendlier terms than grab him psychically bc otherwise this underwater base will eXPLODE him
