I first read this in 2019! There was a spotlight on mermaid-themed manga, and aside from classics like Pichi Pichi Pitch, there was this sweet, short little manga titled Ningyo Ouji (Mermaid Prince), set in Okinawa, with a strong-willed, tomboyish girl and a quiet, frail, artistic boy obssessed with mermaids. He's weak, but wants to learn to swim so he can meet one.

They hear about a mermaid and he really wants to meet her, even if it's risky and they're not sure if she really exists or not and I think this manga has one of the most unique portrayals of mermaids I've seen.

The art is clean, but beautiful, there's a sense of peril and adventure, and it's just sweet.
